The service was very pleasant, and although there was only one other table at the same time as us (9:30 pm), we had a wonderful time at this restaurant. We were particularly pleasantly surprised by the quality of the gluten-free pasta: I quote what my grandmother said to the waiter: "I've never eaten such good gluten-free pasta!" We recommend it without hesitation, thank you!

Great welcome, fast service, the food is good but not exceptional, maybe a little pricey, but really not bad, I recommend it.

This isn't a real Italian restaurant. It'll fill your stomach, but that's about it... A bit pricey for what it is. They forgot to serve us our appetizers. It seems like the ingredients are just dumped on the pizza without being cooked... We didn't linger, so no dessert or extra drinks.

I ordered pasta al salmone and it was really delicious. My wife ordered a pizza and she loved it. I recommend it!

Really lovely restaurant in Amsterdam! The staff was super nice and friendly, patiently waited while I looked through the menu, and the place itself looks great and gives a really good first impression. The religious figures and style was a real plus. The food was tasty, the prices were pretty reasonable, and everything was clean and well looked after. Overall, I had a really nice experience at La Madonna and would definitely recommend it to my friends and relatives.

How bad can an Italian restaurant really be, right? Well, trust me, this was the absolute worst. We ordered Penne All'Arrabbiata. In a proper Italian restaurant, I shouldn't even have to specify "Al dante," but I specifically requested it that way anyway. The pasta was practically dough. My 10 years old nephew could genuinely make a better dish. My husband's steak was slightly better, so I managed to bear that horrific pasta through him. Not wanting to find out how much worse things could get, I canceled my dessert. The house red wine was basically vinegar, and serving it in thick-rimmed glasses was the final straw. And I paid 80 Euros for this absolute disaster of a dinner. Honestly, it wasn't even worth 5 Euros. Don't be fooled by the Italian restaurants you see in Amsterdam. Always check their Google ratings and don't throw away 80 Euros like we did.

the spaghetti is absolutely not what it offers. I really wonder where the parmesan is. the guanciale was not at all browned. This dish is worth 5 euros. I'm sorry but the worst spaghetti I've ever had. The lady who served us was very unpleasant. She kept approaching us and staring at us in a nasty way the whole time.

Great place with reasonable prices and amazing service

Super fast and efficient service! The dish was simple but very good; we had pasta carbonara (with cream sauce), and the sauce was homemade, not the industrial kind you find in most places in Amsterdam. The second course was a really pleasant surprise: a Margherita pizza, simple but delicious! With three drinks, the whole thing came to under €40 – excellent value for money! I highly recommend it!!

We ate at here and the service was less than great. They got our order wrong and would not admit it. After arguing with them they offered to reduce the price. When they brought out the credit card machine, they hid the total price. When they gave us the receipt, we discovered they took off 1 euro!

We had booked with a social deal and were directed to an adjacent building. Perhaps it depends on the time or day, but we were the only guests. Atmospheric, quiet background music and prompt service. The food was also fine.

Usually, I’m quite indulgent when I know I’m eating in a tourist-trap restaurant. Sometimes the location is great, the atmosphere is fun, and even if the food isn’t amazing, I stay in “tourist mode” and enjoy the experience anyway. But this time… not even one star is deserved. I actually wasted my vacation time writing this review because my opinion is THAT bad. This is honestly one of the worst restaurants I’ve ever experienced in my life. The food was terrible, the quality unacceptable, and the whole experience felt like a complete scam for tourists. I almost never leave reviews this harsh, but this place truly deserves it.

Far too expensive for what it is! If you like Italian food, you'd be better off avoiding this place: my Bolognese was completely uninteresting, even bad, my friends were all equally disappointed with their meals, and the drinks weren't good either (special mention for the bottle of red wine sold for 35 euros - for a wine that doesn't justify that price).

Host is incredible rude. Was rushing us to order fast, then saying we were slow so food would take longer; refused to split the bill pretending he could not do it (even though he fills the number on the pinpaid himself), and then mocked us for being confused with the doors. Food was mild.

Nice restaurant, but it's all facade because the food doesn't live up to the hype. The menu lists "cheese" without specifying which cheese will be on the pizza (Mozzarella, Gruyère, etc.). Secondly, the pizza is bland and overcooked. And let's not forget the escalopes—the side dish isn't included! Do you have to pay at least €5 extra for pasta or fries? I don't understand. The waiters are neither pleasant nor unpleasant. In short, I think it's a tourist trap.

We ordered parma ham, pasta, pizza and pesto chicken at La Madonna, and every single dish was fantastic. The pasta was rich and flavourful, the pizza had a perfectly crisp crust with delicious toppings, and the pesto chicken was tender and aromatic. The service was warm and friendly, making the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. We would definitely come back again and highly recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic Italian food!

I can’t really comment on the atmosphere or service when it gets busier but I went with a friend at lunch time whilst we were on holiday and it was fine. The pizzas were lovely, the waitress was friendly and quick and I can’t pick fault. Ignore the low overall score and go and judge for yourself!

So, to sum it up for everyone: This restaurant is truly a niche establishment. I've rarely eaten anything so authentic. These days, everything is pre-cut, flavor enhancers are added, and so on. Not here. I had a calzone, and my partner had spaghetti carbonara. Service: 100% Food: The food is 100% authentic. No flavor enhancers, and everything was freshly cut. The peppers were crisp, the onions were full of flavor, the meat was perfectly seasoned, and the mushrooms still had their full aroma. A perfect 100 out of 100 for everything. The carbonara was just as good. Simply delicious and very authentic. If you're looking for Italian food like Grandma used to make, this is definitely a great recommendation. :D I'm thrilled. Keep it up!

How is this place only rated 3.5? The “nicer” side is beautiful inside! You can actually get a table without a reservation. It’s spacious and quiet. The street it’s on seems a bit seedy, but nice place!

An Italian restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere and authentic Italian flavor! Very clean, the food tastes very natural and fresh. Everything is homemade. And the waitress is very professional and friendly. Perfect location in the center of Amsterdam and very good prices. Excellent quality.

For dinner we had 1 chicken soup, 1 Pollo (chicken and mushroom pizza), 1 burrata salad, 1 spaghetti bolognese, and a cola. Everything was delicious. We paid a total of €60, which is about €30 per person, so we were more than full.

Im giving this restaurant a single star because of the service. The food was fine. It’s not authentic Italian by any stretch of the imagination and anybody saying it is has never eaten in Italy. I ordered the carbonara, it was made with garlic and cream, completely inauthentic to start with. But the absolute star of the disaster show was the waiter. What an ignorant man. Seated three of us and then proceeded to seat four men and two other women after us. Completely ignored our table until he had taken the other two tables orders who had arrived after us. I had to flag him down to get him to take our orders. I asked him what an item on the menu was like and he said “it’s like, I dunno? It’s just like it is? It’s fine. It’s just that”. What?! He had ZERO capacity to describe the item on the menu I was curious about and I just ordered something else altogether. He forgot half of our order (remember there was only three of us and he wrote it down so how he didn’t recall is beyond me?!) I had to tell him twice to get our full order brought out to the table. He was the worst waiter I’ve ever encountered in my life. I would rather go to McDonald’s than ever set foot back in this place. To the owners: your staff are letting you all down.

We came here for dinner to end our lovely day in Amsterdam in a pleasant way, but this experience completely ruined it. First of all, we had to wait for our drinks until the appetizer, which seemed unprofessional. But the real low point came with the appetizer itself. We ordered carpaccio, and what we received was absolutely disgusting: the meat had clearly been sitting for a long time, had a large brown edge, and was covered in hairs that were clearly from the chef. When we confronted the waiter about this, we were surprised to be told that this was "normal" and that carpaccio should look this way because it "doesn't arrive fresh." Sorry, but this is complete nonsense and, above all, a lack of basic knowledge and hygiene. Carpaccio should be fresh, red, and well-prepared – not brown, dried out, and covered in hairs. No apology, no solution, just an absurd explanation. So we left without eating, feeling hungry and with a completely ruined end to our day in Amsterdam. This restaurant not only lacks quality but also respect for its customers. Once, never again.

A truly terrible and utterly scandalous experience at La Madonna in Amsterdam. From the very beginning, the atmosphere felt uncomfortable because the waiter kept staring at us, even before our food was even served. We ordered carpaccio and received raw meat with a brownish-gray edge, clearly indicating it wasn't fresh. Carpaccio is supposed to be red and fresh; this was absolutely not and poses a serious risk of food poisoning. As if that wasn't enough, there was also a black, curly hair stuck in the meat. I have dark blonde hair and my boyfriend has short hair, so this hair couldn't possibly have come from us. Pure unhygienic conditions. When I confronted the waiter about this, he briefly apologized for the hair. But when I pointed out the discolored edge of the meat, he literally said this was "normal" and admitted the meat wasn't fresh. That this is considered normal is truly shocking. We didn't pay and left immediately. The restaurant was empty, and after this experience, it's completely clear why. Unsanitary, unprofessional, and absolutely not recommended.

The pizza and pasta were delicious, and the service was quick and friendly. Prices were a bit high, as is typical. Definitely check the bill. We were charged for two drinks too many. The restroom was okay for a man. We would go again.

There was a sign at the front that said "Spaghetti and 1/2 chicken for 10,99". When I asked about it they told me the price wasn't really 10,99 but 18,99. I ended up just ordering spaghetti carbonara and a pizza. The pizza tasted like it had been frozen. The carbonara was watery and the bacon was soft and tasteless and has a weird texture.

Tourist trap next to the train station, freezing service, pasta and pizzas seem to have just been reheated. Avoid at all costs

We have been in Europe for three weeks and this is the best we have had! This food is flavorful and aromatic! The chicken soup was something my Italian grandmother would make if I had one! The carbonara was succulent and hearty! Try the garlic bread and savor what you have been missing all your life! If you don’t eat here then you have missed out on one of life’s best treats!

The best lasagna I have ever eaten! Even better than most of the pasta dishes I had when I was in Italy.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by a young woman and immediately felt welcome. The service was very friendly, attentive, and yet pleasantly unobtrusive. We arrived around 8:30 p.m. and were able to enjoy our meal in a relaxed atmosphere. We disagree with the negative reviews. The restaurant was very busy, and only a few seats remained.

It's not a 10-quality meal, we can give it a 7-8 but for the price and the touristy location it's in, I think it does its job satisfactorily 👍🏼

About half the tables in the restaurant were occupied. We waited patiently to be assigned a table. Instead of a greeting, we were immediately informed that we could only eat for 30 minutes from the time we ordered. Then they turned on their heels and simply left us standing there. We were a little confused at first, but initially decided to accept it and sat down at a free table. As soon as we sat down, locals came over and were asked if they had a reservation, but were told no. Nevertheless, they were given a table with no time restrictions. This left us speechless. So we got up and left. As we left, the next tourists came in and were told the same thing as us. We can't judge whether the food was good. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. But the way people treat us is very negative.
