The stay begins with the fears that I had…I had had a lot of negative feedback on the restaurants in Amsterdam…I understand €25 for a steak and fries, that's still okay, except that the meat wasn't of good quality, 4 fries on the plate that I shared with my partner because we didn't know that we had to take the extra side dishes... The waiter didn't speak English very well and had just started, however my companion laughed with him to relax him :) We also saw a mouse but hey between entrances and exits in the restaurant I'm going to let doubts speak in favor of the restaurant ;) 66€ anyway for 1 bottle of water almost taken with obligation, a glass of red wine that stings and really mediocre dishes...

De kerstsfeer was goed getroffen, met prachtige decoratie die de ruimte een warme, feestelijke uitstraling gaf. Daarnaast was het gezellig druk en en dus een prima ambiance! De prijs is wat hoger, maar gezien de locatie is dat begrijpelijk. De Engelstalige serveerster was echt perfect en dat mag zeker gezegd worden na de mindere reviews in het verleden: ze liet ons verschillende wijnen proeven om de beste keuze te maken en checkte regelmatig of alles naar wens was in een ontspannen sfeer. De kaasfondue met steak was heerlijk en paste perfect bij de tijd van het jaar. Al met al een fijne en gezellige ervaring.

I was here on Christmas eve 2024 with my parents, brother and girlfriend. The place is well situated in a neighborhood just next to the Vondelpark. The weather was awful but none of that mattered inside: the place was full with guests but not too crowded. There is a bar in the middle and surrounding it are the tables for the guests who come here to eat something. The service was excellent: we were helped quickly and somebody asked if everything was ro our liking at appropriate intervals. The table space was just enough (we were situated around two rond tables with 3 chairs and 2-person wall-bench). It was possible to have conversations with everybody without having to raise our voices considerably. The food was well prepared. The only thing that stood out to me were the portion sizes. Depending on what you order from the menu, the portion sizes can vary. The onion soup starter for example has a considerable size compared to some of the other starters. If you are hungry and expect to have a big appetite I would definitely go for the soup as a starter. Besides the decent portionsize it also tastes very, very good! The other starters were also well prepared and tasted good but for me the soup stood above the rest. For the main course My dad had chosen the mussels, two others had the cordon blue and I had the chicken paillard. Here the difference in size stood out: the mussels were significantly smaller in total size compared to the cordon blue and paillard. Out of these, I would recommend the cordon blue: it was a very well sized portion and the meat was absolutely tender and tasty. The paillard tasted really nice too but the meat was just a bit overcooked making them less tender than I had hoped. The supplemented fries were good, exactly what you might expect from them. The deserts were all well prepared and of equal portion sizes so that served as a big plus at the end of our evening. The wines that were ordered were excellent choices by the way. All in all we had a lovely evening and I would come here again in the future.

Subject: Outrageous and disappointing What started as a pleasant evening at Le Petit George ended in pure annoyance. This restaurant shows how to frustrate customers with ridiculous portions, high prices and rude service. We ordered the cheese fondue for €24 per person. After just 10 pieces of bread the cheese was already gone. When I kindly asked an employee for a refill, it turned out that the mini pan (which was only 2/3 full!) was the full portion. Meanwhile, the basket of dry, hard brown bread – which you can hardly eat, by the way – was still largely full, as were the vegetables. White bread? That will cost you €7 extra for 1/6 of a baguette. Really scandalous. When I indicated that the quantity was not normal, I received a blunt response from an (Asian) employee: “Yes, most people are just full, so you should order a new portion.” No attempt at understanding, apologies, or a solution. My appetite wasn't even a quarter satisfied, even though I'm not a big eater. I reluctantly, against my principles, ordered a second pan because I was simply hungry. That second pan was also barely enough. In the end we even had to order a third pan to leave the table somewhat satisfied. The total? €72 for three mini pans of cheese, which was still basically not enough for two people. This is downright ridiculous. When I looked at online reviews, I discovered that several people had already complained about the tiny portions. The owner apparently responded with understanding with “we will discuss it internally.” What a joke, because when I spoke to a Dutch colleague about that so-called “internal discussion,” I was told snarlingly that nothing had been discussed. This is just how they work – squeezing customers for ridiculous prices. And another thing: there were far too few staff, which made it difficult to speak to anyone at all. There was no customer friendliness whatsoever, and you could forget about compensation or a cup of coffee on the house. Scandalous and rude. This restaurant doesn't deserve to have customers. My advice: boycott this place. Go eat somewhere where you get value for your money and where customers are taken seriously.

Fondue was very tasty and the atmosphere was pleasant!

On Sunday 2 servants working. Cheese fondue cold, bread old and dry. Best was the wine. And you can buy them elsewhere too. NOT recommended.

Lovely restaurant. Just called in for a coffee and had a wonderful fondue with wine! Relaxed atmosphere and warm friendly service. Tastefully decorated for Christmas too. ☺️

The place is indeed gorgeous. The prices are outrageous, especially with such mediocre quality. French cuisine is poorly represented and the waiter couldn't have been more non-chalant.

24 euros for a fondue where you get some vegetables and a basket of bread. I left the table hungry. The food itself is tasty, but far too little for the high price. The aperitif snacks: shrimp croquette and cheese croquette are very small and both at high prices 12 and 10 euros.

We hebben 1,5 uur gewacht op 2 gerechten, nl een boterham met wat stukjes tomaat en een klein beetje burrata en een salade niçoise zonder tonijn, één zielig ansjovis filetje en qua opmaak niet al te best. Hier hebben we voor bedankt en zijn elders gaan lunchen. Bediening overigens vriendelijk, maar konden het vandaag helaas niet aan.

Location is very nice, but after 30 minutes I left. They even hadnt the time to clean the table people before me was using.

Anunciado como un bistró francés, sin duda la decoración y el menú lo sugeriría. Los titulares llegaron a tiempo, pero ahí es donde termina la positividad. Casi dos horas después de llegar el plato principal estaba servido, bueno la mayor parte, tuvimos que recordar al personal de camarera lo que habíamos pedido! ¡Incluso entonces un plato no se materializó a pesar de que estaba en la factura final! La comida era simple, pero porciones un poco pequeñas para el precio. La cocina tiene problemas si se tarda 2 horas en sacar bistec, patatas fritas y una ensalada.

Best spot for a cozy hot chocolate in the rain. The chocolate mousse is fantastic, the best I’ve ever had. Servers are attentive without being intrusive.

It is my first time here in Amsterdam and I found this cafe very nice. I ordered a Cappuccino and a Mousse au Chocolate and I have to say that is my first time that I found a nice Cappuccino out of Italy, also the Mousse was delicious.

We ate dinner here on September 16th, the service and food were delicious! I highly recommend the bass, the salmon, soup and escargot. Service was nice too. I was surprised at some of the other reviews. We really enjoyed our meal here!! And the music was nice. Their French aesthetic is cozy and lovely.

At Le Petit George I enjoyed a perfectly prepared steak – tender, juicy and full of flavour. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service completed the evening. Definitely recommended for lovers of a good steak!

Mixed feelings. We have eaten here for dinner and it was relatively good, lot of pre-made items on the menu and not everything is freshly made in the restaurant but the confit is always great. The service is very french even though they’re Dutch. Arrogant and non-caring. But we had breakfast here recently and it was very very lacking. The french omelette was an embarrassment and all the other dishes looked and tasted thrown together which might have been because of an off-day. But oof it made me never wanting to return. Especially because we had guests over from London. A waste of breakfast-potential. Also, overpriced for the quality you get.

First time there, not going back. Took an hour to get served cold and dry food - which had to be sent back. Waitresses were on their phones and / or talking to each other.

Waited 45mins for food that arrived cold and dry (eggs) and only one dish out of two arrived. Can’t even blame the rush, restaurant was not even 1/3 full at lunch.

Service friendly but food was slow and required chasing. Had salads (cob and rucola) both of which were fine, but worse than we’d make at home. Certainly not at the standard of the original cafe George, would go back for a drink but not food.

Very disappointing. Perhaps the waitress was new or having a bad day, but we had to chase up drinks and food constantly. 45 minutes before we were given our drinks is unacceptable. Ruined the experience and should have walked out, to be honest. It could have been so much better. It was busy enough, so obviously popular, but I wouldn't go back.

We had a delicious meal on a Sunday evening with our 4-year-old son. Excellent children's menu, cozy atmosphere and excellent service. Very surprised at the low reviews. Price/quality is excellent. Delicious food in a non-touristy location.

Too expensive for what they offer and most importantly, how they treat guests. We had reservation for 3 and our table was not ready but when i asked if they can prepare table for us on terrace as we made lunch reservation, answer was “just pick up table” and there were no free tables. On top of being rude, service was as well very slow and food was overcooked. So definitely to expensive for what you get.

The portion sizes are outrageous. The garnish is not included in the price of the main course and even bottled water has the price of mineral water I really don't recommend

Fantastic dinner in Le Petit George! Two wonderful and kind waitresses, delicious food (not to mention the marvelous gluten free bread with butter), great wine and perfect music. The burrata salad and the steak tartare were super tasty (also gluten free ). I strongly recommend them! The place has a nice decoration and was not too crowded nor too lonely. Would love to come back!

I’m really surprised by the negative reviews because we've always had great experiences here, unlike at other places. We've tried many items on the menu and loved everything. In my opinion, this is the best brunch spot in the city! The location is fantastic, especially on sunny days when you can enjoy the terrace. The staff is always friendly and attentive. I’d give it a 10/10.

Terrible experience, really rude and harsh waiter that seemed almost annoyed of us, he asked us if we wanted bread and olives that we accepted without knowing that they would have been charged 12 € !!!!! It was really expensive for nothing special and was not even authentic french food. Finally we saw on the receipt 7€ for tap water and 14 € for unknown items that we never ordered and never got!!!! Stay away from this restaurant!!!

Would avoid if possible. The staff seemed to take offence at having to setup a table, the food was cold and they found plenty of surprise charges to add to our bill. The drinks were nice and so was the atmosphere but unfortunately it couldn’t make up for the service and food.

The bad reviews don't do this place justice! Have been here multiple times and always had great food and decent service (for Amsterdam standards ;-)). Love the terrace space - great place for lunch or an after work with a quick bite.

Ik bestelde 2 garnalen kroketten (€10,50!). Die kwamen ter grootte van 2 bitterballen zonder zelfs een snee brood op tafel. Nabesteld broodje moest worden afgebakken. Dat duurde erg lang, tweemaal om moeten vragen. Omdat de “bitterballen” al op waren (ik wilde ze niet koud eten) heb ik het terug gestuurd. Een fles water (€7,50 !!) werd geopend op tafel gezet. Dat hoort natuurlijk niet. Kortom een zeer karige maar wel absurd dure lunch. Een absolute afrader. Mijn gast had een baguette cannibale, die was aanzienlijk kleiner dan hij zich van een vorige keer kon herinneren.

This negative feedback is NOT because of the staff, but the managers and supervisors. The staff are very friendly, but the way the owners and managers handled us is not acceptable. I went there only once, and a very nice waitress broke few coffee glasses over us, our bags, and everything. That’s fine, accidents happen. But we expect some sort of apology on our bill. Nothing! They even delayed our order. The food is good, but not impressive for that price. I don’t recommend this place.

Worst experience I have ever had dining out. Staff are totally disinterested. The restaurant was almost completely empty but when we asked for a table it felt like such an inconvenience for them. We were left sitting at a table for 15 mins without anyone approaching us. Avoid.

Very poor and rude service, especially if you address the staff in English. They probably assume you're just a tourist rather than a repeat customer who lives in the neighbourhood. Can't explain in any other way how people who actually work in horeca could act so disinterested and rude.

To start with, the service was extremely poor. The outside door that we were sitting next to was not closed, we had to close it ourselves. Meat was cold and well done (medium rare requested). Plates were picked up while we had not yet finished eating and dessert was requested while 2 of us were still dining. We were made to feel as if we were not wanted. In short, a bad experience and a place to quickly forget

We have lived in this area for 15 years and I love the food here but the service is horrendous - today it was so bad we walked out before even ordering - the menu was slapped down on the dirty table on top of a dollop of mayonnaise, which was then smeared all over the menu - we asked for the table to be cleaned, we waited….and waited, then when someone did come out to clean they went to every other table by ours, this is when we left. As I said this is not our first visit or first experience with horrific service at this restaurant - it happens every time we go, hence why I felt compelled to write review.

The food was generally fine, aside from the omelette, which was poor - radically overcooked inside and out with unpleasant cheese that tasted nothing like the promised comté. The picture makes clear how far off being properly cooked it was (it should have no brown at all). It was rightly taken off the bill, having been left largely uneaten. With only a few hot breakfast items on the menu, you'd expect the chef(s) to be able to get all of them right consistently. Omelettes are a foundational cooking skill, so the poor quality was surprising. Keeping warm bottles of mineral water on the tables as part of the setting is odd - if you want to charge seven euros for water, it should at least be cold.

Today I had lunch in this restaurant. We waited for almost 1 hour for a salad! We spent 65 euro's for 2 salads, one bottle of water and 2 coffees! I strongly do not recommend this place.

Oddly, my reviews tend never to exceed the average in Google, yet here we go. I’ve been coming to Amsterdam yearly over a few years for work, typically in September, and typically having lunch at Le Petit George at least once during my visits. Admittedly, I have seldom stretched the sophistication of their menu, more often opting for the simpler dishes in so far as execution, but when I have I have always recieved quality ingredients and flavours inline with my expectations of a quiet streetside bistro. Clearly, there will be no michelin stars going this way anytime soon, but that appear neither the purpose of the restaurant either - it’s a simple place, for relaxation and a decent meal/coffee. A request I will utter though, is one for a more attentive service staff. When going in, I would have wanted to be welcomed, perhaps even been asked if I prefering an indoor/ourdoor table, rather than just being observed and left seated for long at a random self-found table without a menu nor water. Simple improvements. Regardless, I have fond memories of your establishment, and will be back, likely in September.

What a fantastic meal. My wife and I are in Amsterdam for a city break, staying in a new area for us. At the end of the day, we just wanted something simple and quiet for supper. Le Petit George was so much more than that. Friendly staff, tasty food, and fantastic wine at reasonable prices. I had the entrecôte, my wife the duck. Both excellent. Don't miss out on the bitterballen!

The food is great, I enjoy eating there regularly. Service is top notch and there is always a pleasant atmosphere. Friendly staff. Definitely recommended, whether you want a nice breakfast, lunch or dinner. All delicious! Yesterday we had another delicious meal...Halibut with Mashed Potato and Salad with a Paloma (Cocktail) and then a warm Apple Pie with Vanilla ice cream. Delicious!

3 people with food poisoning from the croque monsieur. Service also substandard. Empty brunch place on Sunday afternoon was already a red flag.

We had a great time on December 31, the service was pleasant and the waitress was smiling. The fade was excellent as well as the decoration as seen in the photos. This restaurant was a 9 minute walk from the hotel we chose. (Hilton Amsterdam hotel) Thank you very much for this moment. And happy New Year

Will be totally honest. The service was awful, the waiter was rude. The tables are sooo small and the quantity of the food… well… for one kid. Honestly you will waste your money!

We went for spontant lunch! There was only one lady that was working serving tables and the place had 2+ people on at least 10 tables! She was very friendly and did her very best to serve all with a smile. She deserves a bonus after this day! The food was really good and we’ll be back (if we’re not in a rush).

Myself & my friend popped in here after running the Marathon & despite us still being in our running gear, sweaty & probably quite stinky with myself dressed as Forrest Gump everyone was very accommodating, the beer was ice cold & delightful & the head chef was a charming!!! We namen een omelet als lunch. 2 sneetjes brood moet je daar à € 4,50 apart bijbestellen. Dat geeft het karakter van de zaak goed weer. Men heeft wel een mooi terras maar meer dan een eenvoudig drankje raad ik niet aan.

Matig, zeer matig. Er is een probleem met het tijdig uitserveren want de meeste gerechten (escargots, frites, confit de canard) kwamen lauw op tafel. De kwaliteit van de steak tartare is echt niet goed (niet lekker aangemaakt, te droog), ook de confit mist diepte in smaak. De muziek die ze draaien is goed maar staat echt veel te hard. Er werkt een batterij lieve jonge vrouwen die hun uiterste best doen maar nog ervaring ontberen.

Lets start with the positives: Taste of Escargots was good and that of the Toast Canibale ( Steak Tartare) excellent! Found size of escargots too small. French toast was very dry with scarcely any fruit on it. The cappucino was milky not balanced. The service initially was not very nice . Someone had a " bad hairday" It improved after my partner complained to the Assistant Manager who solved the issues perfectly, profesionally with excellent guest satisfaction focus. We will come back just for the Baquette Cannibale. Hope by then the service has improved and that nobody sticks his/ her nose in the air because you speak Dutch to them first.

Nice little cafe with really friendly service. Surprised that they couldn't make a martini, and also found the steak to be a bit tough. But a pleasant evening all the same.

The place is charming with a lovely atmosphere. We went there during the week in the afternoon, but the service was cold and distant. I believe that the staff are just as important as the ambiance.

Their location is just amazing,perfect for a sunny meal- drinks. The service is on the slower side, some things from the order might need to be reminded. I got the burrata and it was just so delicious and a non alcoholic George apple & ginger.

We ate with a group at le petit, It was a nice experience the manager and waitress were really friendly and kind. The food and the drinks were served fast and were good. The kitchen looked small and they still managed to work so well. Thank you for everything; if we ever come back to The Netherlands we definitely go back.

Appena arrivato abbiamo avuto l’impressione di trovarci in uno spin off di Zootropolis, con il bradipo Flash come protagonista, siamo stati ignorati a lungo mentre assistevamo a cameriere che sparecchiavano i tavoli 2 bicchieri alla volta, ma quando siamo riusciti ad ordinare i piatti sono arrivati in un tempo ragionevole e di buona qualità.

Guys…the place is nice and cozy and the staff is actually nice…but its a restaurant not an airport lounge. They really need to work on the speed of their food its too SLOW. We ordered sandwiches and it took an 1hr20. When we complained they said many orders came in together, but the restaurant was 20% full. Then they said that they were taking their time making the food warm and nice (see attached pic of my sandwich and judge for yourself). Honestly so much potential as a place and good menu but their kitchen is not prepared.

Given all of the negative reviews, I was a bit sceptical, but our servers were very nice, service was quick and the food was good. It was quiet when we were there which maybe helped but would recommend given also a nice atmosphere
