Gold Coast Restaurant & Loungebar in Amstel III/Bullewijk

This is so NOT GOOD we ordered our food at 10:17 pm we were served our first appetiser at 11:21 so 1 hour after!!! This is not acceptable We mostly order take away but also that takes forever from the kitchen!! We thought we could have a fun night but all was ruined by a bad kitchen service. If you need more people for kitchen or service then please hire more! The poor waitress tried her best but spending 150/200€ for no food it’s not NICE!! We just want OUR FOOD!!!!!!!!!! Picture you see is food of nothing!

Despite several bad reviews, we decided to give it a try. We had made a reservation. Initially, we were served promptly, received our drinks quickly, and were given advice on what to eat. We had the kelewele and beef khebab as appetizers. We received two kelewele appetizers, but no beef khebab. It was very tasty, so we didn't make much of it. We had mentioned beforehand that we had a show, which wasn't a problem with the time, and the food arrived quickly. Unfortunately, it took a while before we could order a second round of drinks. When the main course was served, we were given the opportunity to order again. For our main course, we had two jollof and a waakye, both dishes were delicious! All in all, we had a pleasant meal and enjoyed it. The service was friendly, but the wait was sometimes a bit long.

Spending 150 and waiting two hours to get some cold fries. Avoid at all costs if you value your time ☠️

Ordered food at this restaurant and no food had arrived after an hour. Went to ask and was told rudely to go back and it was coming. 30 minutes later, received cold sweet potato fries which I had to send back. Shitty service. This is where to come for bad customer service! I understand being overwhelmed but being rude on top of that? By the way, hour and half after ordering they come to tell us some of the items we ordered isn't available.

Apart from waiting about an hour for the fufu we ordered, we kept asking for updates, but none were given. When the food finally arrived, it was horrible. The soup was tasteless, like meat in water with pepper added. The fufu itself kept breaking apart as we tried to tear it. I had been craving a good, soupy meal, especially since I came to Amsterdam for the Christmas holidays and was excited to find a restaurant right next to our hotel. We decided to try it, but the food was honestly zero to nothing. My daughter and I, who unfortunately ordered the same thing, ended up chewing the tasteless meat and leaving to find a burger to make up for it.

We waited over an hour for our food. The service was terrible, even though there was hardly anyone there. We had questions, but the waitress had almost no answers and acted extremely disinterested and not customer-focused. Something was missing from the dish, but no one mentioned it; it seemed to be out of stock. Even after pointing out everything, they didn't do anything about it. The whole experience was disappointing. It was nice to try something different, but all in all, unfortunately, it wasn't a success.

Placed a takeout order by phone. One jollof with chicken and one red red. It was ready after 30 minutes. Surprised, considering the reviews. Once we got home, we checked the food; it was fresh and the portions were large. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Note that most dishes are spicy. Definitely recommended!

What a nightmare to eat there with eight people. After an hour and several requests, the lukewarm fries arrived. Then, after another fifteen-minute wait, the food arrived. We had the event food, which you'd expect to be served a bit faster. We spent over €140, and there was no discount for the wait. Once and for all!

The food was absolutely terrible. My family and I couldn't finish it; it was so awful. When I contacted the owner, she sent a staff member to our table. As compensation, we were offered a cocktail instead of a replacement meal (which we would ultimately have to pay for) or at least a decent discount on the bill. We decided to give the restaurant a second chance, despite a previous bad experience with their food. Unfortunately, this was in vain. The service was extremely poor across the board, and the food is absolutely not worth the money. Visit this restaurant at your own risk!

The waitresses weren't very polite. The food, however, was very good. We shared our appetizer and were halfway through before my main course arrived. It took a full 10 minutes for my husband's food to arrive. I'd never experienced this before, and it was very unpleasant.

Food is delicious and service is amazing! I ordered grilled tilapia and it was the best tilapia I ever had. The food also didn’t take too long to come out and the portions are also good for the price that you’re paying.

As other reviewers have mentioned, it takes a while to get your food. But then you get what you pay for. The food was delicious, hot, and freshly prepared. The service is excellent, though there's certainly room for improvement. But all in all, the service was excellent. And we enjoyed a pleasant evening :)

Delicious food and friendly service.

Went for a late lunch and it was perfect. We tried Jollof rice with Tilapia (10/10) I’ll definitely come back again.

I picked up 3 Waakye from this restaurant. The Waakye was okay, but the accompanying coleslaw was spoiled. I lost my appetite. I immediately regretted it. Such a shame!

I have only ever tried jollof rice, fried pantain and chicken and it’s always really tasty. The grilled chicken is one of the best I’ve had in Amsterdam. On the other hand, the waiting time is always over half an hour for food and it’s easy to not get attended to by staff and just left unattended for up to half an hour. It’s a nice ambiance with really good food but you have to be willing to do trips to the bar to order and ask for updates on your order

Disappointed on the service. It is a buffet but when you ran out of light soup and goat meat for over an hour and half, it is more like a decision not to serve it. Other dishes were great, though personally I didn't think the watche (rice and peas) tasted great but others were OK with it. Peanut butter soup had limited meat, no TZ soup etc. The buffet is €30 for 2 hours max stay on a Sunday, and surely you will get your money's worth if your favourite is actually made available. Staff are very courteous and friendly. Place is clean. Parking outside is very limited. Just a few minutes walk from the Johan Cruyff stadium or Beijmer station. I'd definitely recommend.

My partner and I took in Gold Cost for our 12 year anniversary. I got Jollof and chicken, my partner got Angwa Mo with beef, and we shared an order of Kelewele. It was amazing, I wish we had found this place earlier in our lives here in Amsterdam. My partner even got two days of lunches out of theirs due to the portions. We will definitely try to come back before moving.

Delicious food and very friendly staff!

Loved the fried rice I expected the rice to have eggs. The jollof rice was ok and the chicken was good! Some of the plantains with the dishes were not fresh.

Great food and music in the background

When we sat down and were presented with the menu, we were like, "Oh dear, where have we ended up?" We chose the Angwa Mo Delicacy. It took over half an hour for the food to arrive, but I think that was because it was all freshly prepared. And we were pleasantly surprised. The portions were quite large, but very tasty! Rice, fish, chicken, vegetables, egg, and banana for a great price. The staff was very friendly, and there's really little to complain about, except that we had to wait a bit for the food, but it was definitely worth the wait. Definitely worth coming back!

A Ghanaian restaurant and bar experience with lots of food and entertainment.

The food was very tasty! The service was excellent.

We had the khebab beef and the fried plantain as starters... And that khebab beef was delicious. I had no idea what to expect, but it was super seasoned and crispy, yet tender. The banana was also delicious. But the pepper (sambal sauce) that comes with these dishes... Was unusually good! Tomatoy, spicy, refreshing... No, I'd love to have a jar of that in my fridge. Of course, we drank an original Ghanaian Fanta with it...highly recommended! For our main course, we had the peanut soup with fufu and the jolof with chicken. Everything was very tasty and the portions were large. It was a lot!!! Especially since we'd already had starters. Next time I'll go for the fried fish, which looked delicious too! I found the atmosphere quite simple. The windows were very dirty, with mouth and handprints on them...I thought that was a bit of a drawback. We were served by a very sweet girl! All in all, I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy culturally challenging food. Just try it!

I went for lunch with my gf and it was super nice. Beautifull scenery, great vibes and the food was good. The waakye was ok qua taste but quantity was very good. Their starters are also a must try

We ordered 3x jolof rice with beef and a grilled tilapia. The grilled tilapia tasted amazing and the cocktails were good. But the jolof was old and crunchy, the beef was so hard that you could not eat it. When we told this to the waiter and manager we got no cooperation or apologies.

Palm nut soup with fufu, just wow!

We ordered suyaas a starter - 1,5 hrs later it hadn't been served. Asked for our main course three times before we were served. Tilapia was burnt, Waakye came with jollof based rice...weird. Went to Tropicana Lounge right after and enjoyed a decent meal...

First time having food from Ghana and it was great. The service was quick to get our drinks, fast cleaning tables and very nice. The food was great, come prepared to be served a lot of food. They do have carry home trays. The only downside is that the music is loud. If you are in a rush then this might not be the spot for you but it is worth the wait

We were hesitant to go here because many reviews said we had to wait an hour for our food. We ended up waiting 35 minutes, and the beef jollof was delicious. I had peanut soup, but it tasted incredibly burnt. The service was very slow; everyone seemed lazy. However, they were always looking around, so as soon as I raised my hand, someone came over. Otherwise, it was fine; it was nice to try the food there, but I wouldn't rush back.

Great food, but bad customer service and organisation they have no concept of time Feels like you have threatened them to leave before you get your food I think the q has been hired to make noise and keep customers out instead of inside the restaurant.

Upon arrival, the restaurant was 85% full and 28°C outside. The service was unsmiling, unfriendly, and lacked a warm welcome. I waited 20 minutes for the waiter to arrive. They didn't have any homemade drinks, which I found a real shame. I ordered the Fanta Ghana. After placing my order, I heard loud hip-hop music with foul language in the background, even though it was a family restaurant. What if there were small children present? Where had the cheerful tropical vibe and music from Ghana gone? After an additional 30-45 minutes, our food arrived (3 plates). A few tables, like us, were unhappy about the long wait. It was incredibly warm inside. The Waakye rice and beans tasted delicious, but why a little meat in a small bowl? I won't be returning. NB: They had put four dishes from another table on our bill. So check your bill before paying.

I ordered Jollo beef. The rice was generous and well-seasoned. The beef, however, came in three pieces (more like steak slices), which were also dry, and you pay 22 euros for that. The male server wasn't in the mood that day.

Had to wait a very long time for food, which then arrived cold, and the food for two people at the table only arrived after everyone else had finished. The menu was small, but that wouldn't have been a problem if it had been ready sooner. It's a shame.

Great restaurant. Dishes are huge and Flavoursome! Wonderful selection of drinks. Service is great and the waitress warned us as we ordered too much food. A must!

Picked up food to eat at home. I think I'll order something other than Jollof for once. Once home, the pasta pesto vegan was sour and inedible. You didn't even get any vegetables or anything with it. It seems like they just cooked a ready-made package from the supermarket and then sold it for 16 euros. Really awful and a waste of my money. In World of Food the food was still acceptable but it has really gone downhill now. Unfortunately, Goldcoast will not be seeing me again.

OMG what a gem of a place. The foods delicious and portions are huge. Service is good and friendly, place has a good atmosphere, definitely highly recommend.

Waited a very very long time for our food. More than an hour and a half. Service was nice but very confused. Came to the table every 10 minutes and had a lot of stress. We missed our opening act because of the chaos.

Booked to eat. Hot evening, 25 degrees. Big signs: terrace by the water. When we arrived, the terrace was closed. We were not allowed to sit outside. So we left again.

We ordered food and drink. One of the drinks did not arrive so I got up to see where it was. I then returned to my seat. A waiter approached and was very angry with me. He said I had bumped in to him causing to drop a glass. He said “You never said sorry. Never do that again” in a very aggressive voice. Well quite possibly I did bump into him, and had I noticed I would have apologised and offered to clear up. So I did apologise to him. But to be spoken to like a naughty schoolchild in front of everyone? I was so stunned I could not eat my meal at all. I spoke to another staff member who said he would “make it up to me” but nothing happened. We paid our bill and left.

I have never had it so bad. Had a reservation on June 23, 2025 at 6:00 PM the place was full, graciously got a table that is free. After 45 minutes they came to take drinks and food at my request. At 7:30 PM we were done waiting. And wanted to leave. Then suddenly the food arrived. We hesitated to leave. But ate something anyway. And only the chicken was the rest was lukewarm and not tasty. Never again that what a peeling hut. Service also bad and unfriendly

The food tasted great. Unfortunately it took over an hour to show up. Nobody ever came to.ask if we wantes drinks.

What chaos in this restaurant. Perhaps too busy for what they can handle. When making a reservation, they say to just find a spot, but the service is nowhere to be seen. Glasses from the previous people at our table were also left standing during this time and had not been picked up before. We ordered a drink via the QR code on the table. Then we waited an hour and a half for the drink despite asking several times where it was. It turned out that the waitress had asked several times if the bar could make it quickly, but the barman did not feel like it. Only when he said something about it personally did the barman start working on the drinks. After 2 hours we finally had them. There is no overview and the staff runs around like a headless chicken trying to find out whose order is whose. It was almost comical. On Sunday there was only a buffet. You stand in line for half an hour to get one serving. So you only got one serving due to lack of time. There were supposed to be free drinks with the buffet (did not get them because the service was almost non-existent), And when ordering via QR code you had to pay immediately. I think the intention was to pay for the buffet in advance, but in the chaos of the staff, that was never mentioned. They said, just sit down. Out of decency, I politely asked afterwards to pay despite the very bad experience and was simply asked for 30 euros pp x 4 people. Excluding drinks because we had paid for them immediately and only received them after 2 hours. No compensation or apologies. The price was also not mentioned in advance. The only positive things about this place is that you can sit comfortably on the terrace by the water. If you sit comfortably there, the atmosphere is great. The food is also tasty. But the overall experience leaves much to be desired.

What a filthy mess; more tables with food leftovers and empty glasses without guests than tables that are occupied. Couldn't find an empty table, without people and food leftovers from the past week. So we went outside again. It's nice that there is allergy information at the door: after all, you never know what you're getting when you walk in here. Ps. Even a quick pee is also an adventure in the ladies' toilet.

The food was delicious, and the staff were wonderfully friendly. We’re excited to come back and try more dishes. The location is ideal — close to the station and the arena, yet it still feels peaceful and cozy.

I'm sitting here now, no organization. We had made a reservation, this was not checked. Everyone could just enter. At the buffet, no more plates, no more knives. Half of it was gone and was not replenished. We could not order any drinks, just chaos. Definitely not worth the money.

The food (main courses) were cold. Due to a very large group the staff experienced difficulties to serve the other guests. Difficult to get their attention. I tried it for the 1st time but will not come back again.

Last Saturday we had something to eat and drink here before we went to the Toppers. Once but never again !! We ordered 3 fries, nachos, frikandellen, bitterballen and spareribs and something to drink so really nothing special, also way too expensive in my opinion. We had to ask for our food 3 times and all in all we had to wait 1 hour and 45 minutes !! Which made us late at the Arena and therefore missed the opening 😪

Really very good food! The price is low and the portions are big.

Very much enjoyed the Ghanaian food. Taste was authentic and there were plenty of tasty options.

The best thing about this place was the vibe. It was chilly when we arrived but I like that it’s right next to the train station. They have a “terrace” and outdoor seating by the water which is cute on a nice weather day. When it comes to the food, the jollof was like party jollof so not wow but good enough to do the job. It looks like service has improved from the last reviews so that’s a plus. I’ll be back to try out the other meals so I can do the place more justice

Dear all. Good service and an excellent meal for a very reasonable price. You can tell that they really do everything they can to please their customers. Sanitary clean. We were pleasantly surprised.

I recently had dinner at GoldCoast, and while it wasn't a disaster, it certainly didn't live up to expectations. The food itself was fine, not great, but not bad either. The flavors were okay, but just lacked that little bit of finesse you expect for the price they ask. We ordered light soup and I thought the fufu was included in the price, but it turned out not to be the case. We paid €5 extra for the fufu. What disappointed me most, however, were the cocktails. I ordered a classic moscow mule, but it tasted completely different from the original recipe. I don't know whether the wrong ingredients were used or there was too much (or too little) alcohol, but it was not what I expected. In addition, I thought the prices were on the high side for what you get. If the food or drinks had been truly excellent I could have understood it, but now it just felt out of proportion. All in all, not a terrible experience, but not something I would come back for anytime soon.

Nothing was gold on the coast. Only the beer was tasty.

I swore it was an Australian-inspired restaurant, but it's actually African. I loved the vibe, but the service left something to be desired. Our dishes took over an hour to be ready. Besides that, the dishes are very large, you need to be very hungry to be able to eat everything, but it's totally worth the price! I recommend it.

Food was a bit disappointing and the wine was undrinkable.

Sadly, only one of the three in our party got to enjoy a meal. We ordered together. One of the three entrees came out and we were told the other two were coming. 30 minutes later we ask and were again told it was coming. We waited a bit and asked again and they said they would check. After over an hour of sitting there we got up to pay for our drinks and the one food order that we had gotten. They had the nerve to ask if we wanted to take it with us?! The one entree that we got was good. It is such a shame as the menu looked amazing and all the people that were seated long after us who got their food also looked and smelled amazing. So, I have no doubt the food is good but the service was dreadful. Mistakes happen but you need to communicate that to the customer. When we asked what happen it was shrugged off. If they had just been honest, told us something was mixed up and that they had rushed our order once the mistake was noticed and it would be out in X-ish amount of time that would have been fine but to ignore us and to not communicate at all was not ok. We had a concert to get to and had made our reservation in plenty of time but when you sit there for an hour and only one of three entrees come out, it just wasn't nice. I won't be back, unfortunately.

Services are slow but a good place for Africa delicacies.

Trying to get something to eat at 1 a.m. usually ends up at Macces or Burger King. Not so on Friday evenings near the Amsterdam stadium. The Gold Coast also invites you to Fufu and Jollof. And not only beautifully presented on earthenware dishes, but also accompanied by really friendly and attentive service. The food was very tasty, the beef was tender as butter, the peanut soup was hot and well seasoned. This was already the case before the move from the “World of Food”, and the quality has only increased. And the prices were very fair - the four of us paid around 85 euros including drinks. Here we come again! Oh yes, the music was a bit loud at first, but was turned down later. So you could have a good chat.

Very tasty, fair prices and great service and ambience. Me and my family enjoyed it. Unfortunately we live 500km away. Otherwise we would come more often. But from now on, every time I visit Amsterdam, it will be on my to do list.

Very unwelcoming on arrival. Atmosphere spoilt by feral children running amok whilst mums on their mobiles (restaurant did not ask parents to control children) Music too loud for ambient setting Food mediocre at best - Nachos rubbish, wrong food served (chicken kebab ordered and beef turned up) and had to be replaced. Went to buy jollof and and it was half cooked and half uncooked

Yo lof was very dry and the Waakaye tasted very mealy. Both probably prepared by a microwave (chef mic). The next morning I had an intimate relationship with the toilet for a whole day and until 2 days later severe diarrhea (hopefully this will stop soon!). It took a really long time before someone came to take our order, but there was literally not a single second between the starter and the main course. Dessert was not possible, with the exception of the cheesecake, but according to the waiter, it was not that tasty.

Aesthetically attractive place, peaceful atmosphere. Nice background music that suits the food shop. Service was spic and span! It was a new type of cuisine for us, but we certainly enjoyed it. All in all highly recommended!

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was empty so we were helped quickly. Location is nice on the water. The food, on the other hand, was not that spectacular. We wanted to try jollof but the recipes we saw did not resemble what was served. The rice tasted dry, old, and had little flavor. The chicken was partially tender, but largely chewy and tasted as if it had been reheated several times. Beef also tasted old and dry. It's definitely not worth the price either. I would like to try African food again, but never here again.

The food was beautifully presented and of reasonable taste. The service took a very long time before someone came to take our order and we received the drinks. They had no white wine and water could only be served with spa blue…Music, African, was very loud for a restaurant. We won't go back.

How delicious this was!! Ate here with family after a show and chose the restaurant purely on chance. Ghanaian cuisine was also new to us, but it was so delicious. The rice in beans, the Jo Lof, the banana and the star of the evening; the grilled tilapia. There was so much meat on the fish that even the big eaters could not finish their plates. Service was nice but a bit reserved and the wait for drinks and food was a bit long. But, totally worth it. Recommended!

First time experiencing African food. The jollof rice and chicken was delicious and everything was so full of flavour. The service was super quick but the food still felt fresh and well prepared. A very relaxed location also, will be going back.

We went in by accident for dinner. It turned out that the specialty was African dishes from Ghana. However, one of us took the European ribs and I took the Waakye with beef. And it was a bull's-eye. Familiar dishes were combined with unknown herbs and spices. And everything worked fine. We drank non-African beer and now we will remember this place. Very nicely located premises, very close to the metro, railway and bus stations. I recommend.

It’s the 3rd time visiting this place and every time the quality of food and service is going one level below. We have ordered sides like fries and nachos have to wait for almost 90 minutes. It looks like those fries are ordered outside as it so soggy when it is served at the table. Except for the location, this place is surely NOT recommended

Had to wait a very long time before we could order. Service also acted nonchalant. Many menus on the menu were gone. Then we had to wait a long time until we got our food. And then dinner: I had fish with cassava. Have never eaten such a bitter tough cassava. Once and never again!

Everything was excellent! The location was very convenient, close to both the Arena and the station. The venue was spacious and beautifully decorated, with a lovely terrace overlooking the water. I have been here twice. The first time the food was amazing, very fresh, smoky jollof and the tilapia was nice. Second time they served us old jollof that was sticky and hard at the bottom…and tilapia that was made atleast one day before. It lacked freshness.. very dissapointed.

A Flavorful Journey to Ghana at Gold Coast in Amsterdam** At the suggestion of a friend, I decided to give Gold Coast a try. He insisted that I experience food "prepared the Ghanaian way." Intrigued and a bit skeptical, especially about the Light Soup with goat meat, I agreed. What followed was a culinary experience that thoroughly impressed me. The Light Soup was a revelation. The rich, spicy broth had a depth that penetrated the goat meat all the way to the bone. Though I'm usually sensitive to spice, the heat was perfectly balanced and tolerable. It’s a must-try for anyone exploring Ghanaian cuisine. Next up was the grilled tilapia served with Jollof rice and plantains. The whole tilapia was massive, grilled to perfection with a flavorful char that complemented the tender, flaky fish. The Jollof rice was a highlight—steamed in a bed of aromatic spices that danced on my palate. Unlike some versions I've had in the U.S., this Jollof wasn't overwhelmingly spicy, allowing me to savor every bite without needing to cool down with water. The dish came with a small salad and creamy coleslaw, which was a pleasant surprise. The creaminess of the slaw was a perfect counterbalance to the spicy hot pepper sauce I accidentally tried—beware, this sauce is not for the faint-hearted! If you're a hot sauce lover, you'd want this bottled up for sure. The staff at Gold Coast were warm and friendly, adding to the overall positive experience. Surprisingly, the place wasn’t crowded, which is a mystery to me because anyone in Amsterdam looking to enjoy the authentic flavors and spices of the motherland should definitely make their way here.

Delicious food. Can really recommend the fried fish and plantain. Staff was very friendly. Jollof is always a good idea.
