It was great to meet the mascot parrot, Elvis. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. Visited on October 10, 2024.

For a long time, it was a nice restaurant in a good location. Unfortunately, it has since gone bankrupt and closed.

Unbelievable. They take people’s money and file for bankruptcy within hours. That’s blatant fraud...

Beautiful dining room and a great omelette. They have a bird! Surprisingly empty for how convenient and high quality it is, you don't even need a ticket to get to the entrance on the platform.

Closed due to bankruptcy as of August 12 2025. Very disappointing.

Unfortunately, this restaurant has been declared bankrupt. All reservations are being canceled because these people had a dispute with the Dutch Railways (NS).

Beautiful building, nostalgia, had lunch and it was tasty

Food was good just a bit smaller quantity than expected. Nevertheless still good taste and amazing atmosphere at night. Good for romantic dinner and a quality spot in case you’re visiting Amsterdam for a quick dinner.

The food is okay, but you rarely get exactly what you order. The interior is unsurpassable.

I’ll start by saying fancy place but poor execution. It can be a bit tricky to find the restaurant but, once you do you’ll be impressed by the decor and the cockatoo you see inside and… that’s about it. The food is nothing more than below average, especially for the high price. The burger was probably the most average bland tasting burger ever, even at McDonalds you can eat tastier burgers, the fries were frozen, for this kind of establishment you’d expect at least actual potatoes, not frozen ones. Service was okay, staff were friendly and polite. If you wish to eat a decent meal, you can try somewhere else and save up the money you would have wasted here.

A great place for lunch and dinner. We loved the beef stew, which was very hearty and delicious. Excellent service.

Went there on a first date and was ignored by the waiters while I was trying to create the right balance between being assertive about it and not being an ass. Never again. Given that they dared to accrue up to 800.000 in unpaid rent, there is one right place for them and that's uitgerangeerd.

Located inside the station. No reservation required. Can be used for a variety of purposes including cafe, lunch, dinner, and bar. There is a white parrot.

Update May 2025: still a lovely setting. Bitterballen are fantastic! But "cheese souffles" are not the same as deep fried breaded cheese, and a caprese salad needs a drizzle of something anything! May 2022: Unexpected surprise within the Centraal Station, great to take a relaxing break in such a beautiful historic settingg. Service was up and down, but they get large groups in here which is tough to balance. Bitterballen were delicious, seafood soup was a bit too salty. Odd recommendation, but the Delft blue toilets in the women's washroom are not to be missed!!

As I understand this place will dissappear and that is, as a historical location, a shame but in terms of hospitality when can only call this fair. We went for a coffee and cake date and were directed to the darker side of the restaurant as the sunny side with cityview was closed off due to ‘lack of staff’. This was despite the fact that 4 employees were waiting 5 or 6 tables only. The appliepie was soggy and clearly not fresh from a bakery as claimed. The panna cotta was ok but 10 euro?? Staff was not interested in our dissappointment and just presented the charge machine: 24 euro for basically nothing so if you can avoid the place: do so.

The worst place to eat you could ever find. They gave us soup from a packet, a meatball, and a dessert of powder with a tiny piece of bread, and if you asked for more, they'd charge you a euro and a half. I don't recommend it to anyone.

The name 1eklas is unfortunately not at all compatible with the poor manners of the staff. They treat their customers very badly—how can they even work there? Especially the Asian woman, she's extremely rude. And the place doesn't seem appropriate for the parrot at all. What a shame, visit, ruined lunch!!!

The food was very good. I ordered a tenderloin and it was absolutely delicious tender, soft, melt-in-your-mouth, just perfect. But now, about the staff and especially the bird. There’s a sign that clearly says “Do not touch,” so I was keeping my distance. Then one of the waiters a tall man with short hair and glasses came over. Maybe his English wasn’t very good, because he told me, in English, that we shouldn’t touch the bird, but that sometimes it jumps on people when it’s happy and affectionate. So from what he said, I understood we weren’t supposed to touch the cockatoo, but if it came to us on its own, that was fine. That’s literally what he said. But then, a moment later, the bird climbed onto me, and suddenly this same waiter came back, very aggressively, saying something like, “What did I tell you? Don’t touch him! If he bites you, that’s on you.” It was rude, unpleasant, and frankly made me lose my appetite. The accusatory tone, right after giving unclear instructions in poor English I was really disappointed. So yeah, nice food, but a bad experience overall.

We’re frequent guests and we love this restaurant. The American burger and the duck breast (magret) are excellent, and the staff is always very friendly.

The receipt that you receive when you visit the toilet at an NS Station, which gives you a €0.50 discount at various things at the station, indicates that you can also hand in this voucher at Grand Cafe Restaurant 1e Klas, but for an unknown reason they do not accept the receipt here.

Fijne sfeer, rustig en ruim. Lekker gegeten: stoofvlees met friet. De bediening was vriendelijk en snel. Goede prijs-kwaliteit verhouding.

A hidden spot on platform 1 at Amsterdam Central station

Nice location, but substandard food. Very unfortunate. Shrimp cocktail and carpaccio in advance were okay, but the shrimp in garlic oil was bad. Were glassy and no taste. Main course pasta with truffle and mushroom sauce was terribly bad and did not look appetizing. Duck overcooked, cod did not smell fresh and the side dishes were cold. And the schnitzel was dry and also overdone.

The food was just okay, nothing special, but the atmosphere was nice. It's located inside the train station and seems like an old, established place, which made me want to try it out.

Wederom een heerlijk bezoek ( in alle opzichten) aan deze prachtige lokatie,de prima keuken en fijne bediening. De salade met zalm en garnalen is een klassieker geworden ,hoera . En soms mag ik van mijzelf de Lever met spek en ui hier eten. Die is altijd fantastisch. Hele fijne sfeer, prettig geroezemoes, de hele wereld gaat aan tafel hier met de gezonde spanning en melancholie van komende en gaande treinen op de achtergrond

Great hidden gem upstairs at Amsterdam Centraal Train station. They allowed my husband to charge his phone which was much appreciated but the food and service exceeded expectations, and they have a parrot which was a nice distraction for our kids!

Very noisy place, food like at a kiosk, only on a plate and not in paper. The staff does not pay attention to the guests.

The food here is amazing—full of flavor and clearly made with care. You can tell they pay attention to every little detail, from the presentation to the ingredients. Everything felt fresh and well thought out. Even the small things, like the sauce or sides, were on point. Great vibe, super friendly staff. Definitely coming back!

Llegamos temprano para nuestra reserva, estábamos sentados, pero nadie nos esperó durante al menos 20 minutos hasta que marcamos un servidor caído. Era lo suficientemente amable, pero no sabía si era nuestro camarero. Pedimos esperar 3 veces, y finalmente conseguimos vasos pequeños, pero las botellas grandes de agua del grifo eran solo para los grupos. La comida era buena, no genial, y bastante caro. El servicio era muy puntual en el mejor de los casos. Parecía que atendían a grandes grupos, los trataban muy bien y los atendían con exclusión de otros. No recomendaría ni volvería a este lugar.

2nd visit and certainly worth it. Very busy but service was excellent and attentive just right. The decor is worth seeing on its own. As part of Amsterdam Central station it takes you back in time maybe 100 or 150 years.

Good place. Good location. Delicious food, staff is respectful but could do better in terms of conviviality, it's not bad, just some people seem angry. I was helped by Chiron, fantastic service, she is very friendly, helpful and professional. I think she was the best server.

Very nice interior, historic space

Muy mal servicio. Lo cual es una pena ya que el entorno es precioso. El personal no parecía saber lo que estaban haciendo. Nos recibió y nos dijo que estábamos allí para la degustación de bolas amargas. Incluso eso parecía confundir al funcionario. Me senté y me fui por lo que parecía más tiempo del necesario. Nadie vino a preguntarnos si queríamos bebidas o explicarnos cómo funcionaba la experiencia de cata de bolas amargas. Tuve que ir a preguntarle a una camarera si podíamos tomar algo. Le pregunté al personal cómo pedimos nuestras bolas amargas nadie parecía saber lo que estábamos haciendo. Aprecio que el inglés no sea su primer idioma. Pero el servicio general fue impactante. El personal estaba más interesado en limpiar las mesas y charlar con cada ohter que en comprobar los huéspedes que estaban sentados. Pedí un poco de claridad sobre el servicio, admito que un poco demasiado rápido (mi culpa y yo nos disculpamos) y un miembro del personal en realidad se alejó gritando. Una vez más no muy profesional y no gran servicio al cliente. Cuando todo lo que quería era algo de información y que se tomara nuestra orden. Eventualmente tenemos nuestras amargas bolas. Pero toda la experiencia fue arruinada por el personal desinteresado y poco atento. Lo mejor fue conocer a Elvis. Solo entra a ver los alrededores y Elvis de lo contrario no se moleste con comida y bebidas.

Well, a very bad weak cup of coffee and a very simple sandwich for that price. Also a terribly bad acoustic. Not a pleasant experience and therefore not recommended.

The restaurant atmosphere was good, but the parrot flapped its wings quite a bit, which didn't seem to fit in with the restaurant. This is my personal opinion, but I think Koreans might not like it. I went for the meal as a package, and I remember the main menu as pork steak. The soup, salad, and dessert were all delicious. The pork was a little hard because it was grilled until it was done, so it was hard to eat. Still, overall, I was satisfied with the restaurant.

Beautiful location and service is friendly except for an older woman with black hair who I think is in charge. That really needs to go. Not service oriented at all and very negative. Brings the level of the restaurant down.!

Beautiful, nostalgic piece of old station. The company has 3 areas, the 1st of which is used as a restaurant. The other rooms can be used for groups and events. Very nice and cooperative staff. Super friendly. Tasty food. Great evening

Perfect place to enjoy a good cup of coffee in the very center of Amsterdam

Had dinner with a large group of 12 people on August 9. Saying goodbye to a highly valued colleague. Afterwards we had bingo We made this clear in advance + that we wanted the action menu, in the hope that it would go smoothly. We were already there 10 minutes in advance. It took a long time before we got the menu. When asked when we would receive this, because time was running out due to bingo, we were told: we will discuss whether this is still possible! Sorry!! Wasn't this what we knew we wanted to eat? Luckily, it was still possible, but it had to be done quickly. Not so nice. Then: cold starters were very very cold, that the taste was minimal. Had to send two entrecots back because they were raw (instead of medium). They were good in the second round. Steak tips are nothing to write home about. Chewy ends with a sauce from a bag. Layout of the signs amateurish And that for those prices. Now it comes: According to the menu, you can choose any dessert for the promotional menu. To our astonishment (we only noticed later) the café Frappe was billed separately. Had contact with the sales of Grand Cafe first class. Because we still thought; mistake can happen. But we received the answer: the café Frappe is not part of the promotional menu!! It is not stated on the menu that dessert is not included and it is also the cheapest dessert. The waiter did not say this either, otherwise we (4 out of 12) would have taken something else. I see this as deception. Because on top of the 42.50 of the promotional menu, another 9 euros had to be paid for the café Frappe. After some back and forth emails with sales, we were unable to reach a solution. I certainly expected a little more leniency after this disappointing evening. The Bingo, on the other hand, was TOP!! That's why I give 1 star. If they do come up with a solution, I will adjust the review.

Dishes were a bit unclean servers couldn’t tell me if there was dairy in dishes but food was good.

Wat een ambiance!! Zeer fraai authentiek ingericht restaurant binnen het Centraal Station. Overzichtelijke menukaart met de bekende gerechten. Verwacht hier geen haute cuisine . Je krijgt keurige smaakvolle gerechten voor een prima prijs. Vriendelijk personeel. Een aanrader.

Such a beautiful and stylish restaurant and the food is super good, American citizen's favorite. It was 8/3 again, drinking a nice cup of coffee and looking at the beautiful white parrot Elvis. The nice waitress Edna was there again. It is so beautiful in there with yellow curtains, blue pots with palm trees, beautiful brown wooden furnishings, atmosphere as if you are abroad, we have been coming here for 10 years with FUN!

Delicious and tasty food for a reasonable price. Although there is a very large menu with a lot of choice, so far every choice for lunch and dinner has been fine and certainly sufficient. The ambiance is very pleasant and cozy, the interior warm and inviting with cockatoo Elvis as the absolute star of this restaurant. The service is very friendly and helpful and you get a tasty sandwich with spread upon arrival. Although always busy, I think this restaurant remains an undiscovered gem. Recommended for every group and for every occasion!

The team at Grand Café Restaurant 1st class provided a 1st class service. They provided an excellent dinner proposal for our group of 55 people and made an excellent contribution to the organization of my 80th birthday. My guests have nothing but praise for the quality of the dinner and the smooth, friendly service. This location is highly recommended. Brord Goeting

Praktisch plekje omdat je daarna snel de trein kan pakken. Patatje Vlaams stoofvlees en een kipburger besteld. Prima, niet echt hoogstaand. Wel was het echt bloedheet binnen. Dat was niet echt fijn. Wel melding van gemaakt. Bediening was aardig.

Beautiful restaurant with a view of the platforms!

I traveled to the Netherlands with Coca-Cola. The taste in the Netherlands is relatively salty. The large beef balls need to be eaten with mashed potatoes underneath. The soup for the appetizer is hot enough, and the dessert is not too sweet.

Only had tea, the parrot made a disturbing noise and the bill was completely wrong. Furthermore, the location is very beautiful.

Top class restaurant with an antique and luxurious decor. You can feel the history of the city floating through the restaurant once you step in. The menu was innovative and had more offers than a classic cafe-brasserie menu. The Prosecco paired perfected with the spring rolls and cheese cubes. Excellent quality meat. The rib-eye and the tenderloins were the best we had in a long time. Special mention for the Rioja which our server was very right to recommend with the meat. The children enjoyed their fish and chips. The servers were very gentle and we were never rushed. The cherry on top was the Cheesecake and Lemon pie which satisfied our sweet cravings after a delicious dinner. Peaceful setting to enjoy the dinner after visiting the city. Thank you for the amazing food and service. We will be definitely be back when we come to Amsterdam.

Disappointing. The food was tasteless and pretty pricey, first they brought bread which was cold and not so soft with some garlic sauce that was rock solid and impossible to eat. After that I ordered a quatro fromaggio pasta and the pasta itself was old and the cheeses had a weird taste. When I asked the waitress to please inform the chef that the pasta was old, the response was pretty impolite and they said that the pasta was fine. I wouldn’t come to this place again if you’re looking for something nice to eat, it looks nice outside but no flavoring and not good customer service whatsoever.

Very beautiful and good restaurant, where you go back in your mind to times gone by, where people passing through would eat in the past! This hidden Grand restaurant can be reached via the central hall to the 1st floor via the stairs! The staff is extremely friendly and dressed as befits a Grand café restaurant with long white aprons. The restaurant is monitored by Elvis the 27 year old cockatoo who looks into the room from the bar. The food is great, and something for everyone! The prices are also reasonable!

Amazing place with very polite staff, delicious food, nice atmosphere. We have been there 2 times in 4 days. Will come back again in my next visit. Definitely Recommending.

The atmosphere makes up for a lot, the space is very beautiful. The price is not in proportion to the dishes, it is too high. The portions are relatively small, which cannot be called special compared to other comparable restaurants. The fish & chips was no better than a Captain Igloo fish stick. The satay was not tender yet it was little. The operation is clumsy in organization. You had to have a different person for every question, someone to serve, someone to order drinks, someone for the bill. The service feels purely service-oriented, the contact is short and sometimes unfriendly.

Lovely atmospheric location. Friendly service, but not very well informed about the problems with the food served. That's difficult when you can't eat everything. Lettuce was unimaginative and with a lot of acid in it, which I did not expect and cannot tolerate. Sweet potato fries were delicious, cappuccino with oat milk too. Too bad there aren't many gluten and lactose free foods.

Super beautiful place and that's it. Staff made no effort to be attentive or customer friendly. And the food (I had Flemish stew) was substandard and overpriced. Dry meat, fries not well done. I would like to give my opinion in the restaurant, but did not see any staff during the meal.

Booked through Fork and very satisfied. Nice interior, the food came in good portions and I am very picky but found everything very tasty. Without a discount I honestly wouldn't pay it, but the prices are probably competitive. Service is a bit grumpy, they seem tired and overworked, but if you are friendly to them they are all friendly back. Was a good experience. Thanks.

The location is very convenient, just above the Holland Station. It gives the illusion of walking up and into another time and space. The dining environment blends history and culture, and the food is delicious.

Great ambience n nostalgia but food was below average. Server Catalin was warm but the food was really disappointing. Just go for the beverage n ambience if you’re feeling it.

We had a three course meal here for dinner. We had tomato soup, hamburger (meatballs) on mash and a mega sweet custard mousse dessert. Service was good, servings quite small. The restaurant is quite dark. Located right above the central station.

I'm a tour guide and I've taken my groups there to eat and everyone has been very happy, because of the excellent service, the good service and the exquisite food. I recommend it to everyone. You can also enjoy Dutch and international cuisine, a central and historic place, from its building you can see the city center.

Tja, ik had blijkbaar veel te hoge verwachtingen. Het soepje smaakte nog, de theekeuze was zeer redelijk, maar de sandwiches en alle zoetigheid viel erg tegen. Ook vergat men de citroen voor de thee en het schoteltje om de theezakje op te leggen. De 'refill' was koud tegen de tijd dat ik die wilde gebruiken. Ook vergat men mij mijn glas rode wijn te brengen. De kleine tafel was gedekt met een tafelkleed, dat was weer leuk, maar er was wel erg weinig ruimte om alle spullen overzichtelijk op te zetten. Gedoe....

Well, apparently I had way too high expectations. The soup still tasted good, the choice of tea was very reasonable, but the sandwiches and all the sweets were very disappointing. They also forgot the lemon for the tea and the saucer to put the tea bag on. The 'refill' was cold by the time I wanted to use it. They also forgot to bring me my glass of red wine. The small table was covered with a tablecloth, which was nice, but there was very little space to put all the things in an organized manner. Hassle...so...

Omg do I hate this place. I never review locations but I felt so uncomfortable here that I felt the strong urge to. In short, the location is lovely, so is the service and the coffee, however, there is a big tropical bird pitched up at the very end of the bar, in a clear state of distress, screeching and biting and flapping around. The service staff makes sure to spray the bird with what I assume is water every time the animal even thinks of climbing down its wooden stand, even spraying a bit more after he has already long managed to dutifully climb has way back up. It made me and the company I had invited so uncomfortable to see this routine of animal cruelty on unashamed display. The many guest taking their pictures with the poor thing in passing only adds to the apparent apathy that is felt to this beautiful bird. That is all to say, the way the bird is used as a sheer spectacle just feel out of date, and quite frankly simply wrong, and I urge the cafe and it’s staff to reconsider their approach to the animals they keep in captivity within the cafe.

What a surprise! We had a delicious meal (lunch). Very friendly staff, Samira and another lady (sorry, forgot her name). We had a nice afternoon!
