We ordered a pizza with ham and artichokes and I saw when I went to get the pizza there were no artichokes, the Italian guy in the pizza place said they were under the ham, but in the end there were no arthichokes, besides that the pizza was not nice, was raw Dow and raw, recommend having a world with the pizza people.

Nice place to sit and watch the world go by. Coffee and iced coffee wasn't up to Melbourne standard, but still nice. Tried our first Bittenballen (vege ones) which were nice - would have been better served with mayo instead of mustard, just in our opinion, and the tomato sourdough toastie which was definitely the highlight for us, absolutely delish!

Great little spot right in the park and on the water if you’re lucky enough to get a spot. Only had nachos but were big portions and tasty. Service however was poor, disorganized and delayed which let the place and experience down.

A wonderful little café tucked away in the heart of Vondelpark! While wandering through the park, we started getting hungry and thirsty and stumbled upon this charming spot. Ordering was easy—we placed our order, were given a buzzer, and simply waited until our food was ready to pick up. We enjoyed a delicious handmade pizza cooked in a traditional brick oven, and it was absolutely worth the wait. We also had a couple of cocktails, which were refreshing and perfectly made. With plenty of seating and a relaxed atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to take a break while exploring the park. This was such a fantastic find, and I’ll definitely be stopping here again the next time I’m in Amsterdam’s Vondelpark. Highly recommended!

€66 for a salad, a sandwich, and two drinks. The food arrived after an hour and a half. Absolutely unacceptable.

Always one of the best options, especially with kids. Combine the small paddling pool with the adjecent Groot Melkhuis. First let kids cool of in the pool, afterwards go have a proper neapolitan woodfire pizza by pizzaiolo Andrea (the best!!) combined with a Spritz or pint. Just a 10/10 day. Props to Andrea, superfriendly, best hospitality, keep it up, stay cool and avoid that semolina cloud! Blonde bartender girl inside also big kudos for the friendly service and coins for the playground equippement, kids had a blast!

Ordered drinks easily via QR code, with fast and kind service. Place has a nice relax atmosphere. I think they added more tables, makes it possible to find a place even in crowds. After my negative experience three years ago, I would say they made quite a progress.

We stopped for lunch on a warm sunny day and the service was really good, and the food just what we needed. They also offered to refill our water bottles with iced water to keep us going through the afternoon! Definitely recommend!!

Had a lovely lunch today with two friends on the outdoor terrace. What a wonderfully relaxed spot this is in Amsterdam. The food and drinks are delicious and reasonably priced. I had momentarily forgotten that they had blunt knives. Next time I’ll secretly bring my sharp Victorinox knife. But that is the only downside. So, five stars after all!!!

I visited Groot Melkhuis intending to enjoy lunch and drinks, including one of their pizzas. I arrived around 12:50 PM and spoke with two young members of staff, who kindly explained that pizza service would begin at 1:00 PM. We agreed that I could simply wait a few minutes until the kitchen opened. The interaction was pleasant, professional, and entirely sensible. Unfortunately, that positive impression ended when a staff member who appeared to be a supervisor intervened. What stood out was not that he chose to enforce a rule, every business is entitled to do so, but how he did it. Rather than addressing us directly, he spoke to the two employees in front of us and instructed them not to take the order because it would create more work for the team later. There was no explanation offered to us, no attempt at hospitality, and no recognition that we were customers prepared to wait and spend money at the establishment. The two younger staff members had shown initiative, common sense, and a genuine willingness to help. Instead, they were placed in the uncomfortable position of having to reverse their decision because someone higher up decided that accommodating a customer a few minutes before service was apparently too much trouble. What disappointed me was not the refusal itself, but the attitude behind it. Good hospitality is not measured when everything runs smoothly; it is measured in the small moments where staff have the opportunity to be welcoming, flexible, and solution-oriented. In this case, the message seemed to be that avoiding a minor inconvenience for the team was more important than serving a willing customer. The irony is that this decision sent us elsewhere. A short walk away, we found Pizza Project, where we were welcomed immediately and enjoyed excellent pizzas. Groot Melkhuis is a beautiful location, and the younger staff members represented the business far better than the person supervising them that day. Unfortunately, one individual's dismissive approach managed to overshadow what could have been a very positive experience.

Despite the crowds on a sunny Sunday, ordering here is very smooth and fast. You receive a pizza on the table faster than the baking time. That means staff are proactively working to provide the best service. The way this place operates is an example for other hospitality businesses.

Groot Melkhuis became one of our favorite family stops in Vondelpark. It’s located right next to what feels like the main playground area of the park, making it an amazing place for families with children. The playground itself is fantastic — it even has a zipline, which my daughter absolutely loved. While she was happily playing for a long time, my wife and I were able to relax and truly enjoy the atmosphere of Vondelpark, which made the experience even better for us as parents. The food was also surprisingly good for a park restaurant. I would definitely recommend the falafel, and the fries were genuinely delicious as well. Overall, it’s a perfect combination of good food, a relaxing park atmosphere, and a great play area for kids. If you are visiting Vondelpark with children, this is a wonderful place to take a break and spend some quality time.

Great spot in a beautiful setting in Vondelpaark. It's pretty casual, there's quick table service as well as cafeteria style service. Outdoor tables are set right next to a little pond. Wood-fire pizzas were actually quite good! Great spot for the kids with high chairs available as well as a playground and baby changing station. Highly recommend for some snacks, coffees and/or cocktails.

A relaxed place to enjoy a drink in peace. It has a vintage vibe. Finally, a place that hasn't been converted for hipsters yet.

The atmosphere was vedy cozy and nice. We liked the availability of oven pizza, healthy snacks (vegetables with hummus) for kids and as well some other options such as sandwiches. We were disappointing because the menu on google maps showed that they had soups or even vegetarian burger but then when we came they told us they don’t serve anymore soups, a pitty as i find it a healthy alternative both for kids and adults especially after eating all day long sadwiches/toasties/crocket etc.. the service was a bit confused as they did not know to which table to bring the pizza and it was kinda akward because they should have more trained personnel.

Lovely location in the park, plenty of space for prams and to sit in the sun outside. Located next door to the playground. After checking the menu online, We didn’t realise that despite opening at 10am the menu is not available til after 12noon, only croissants, apple pie and banana bread available before 12noon.

​I was very disappointed by our experience at Groot Melkhuis. We arrived and sat inside, but were never acknowledged by the staff. My husband eventually went to the bar to order a drink and a pizza. ​After waiting 45 minutes—and with the restaurant nearing its 8:00 PM closing time—our food still hadn't arrived. When I politely inquired about the delay, I was initially told there were no pizza orders in the system. However, the staff eventually located our pizza sitting right behind the bar. They actually said, "We wondered whose pizza this was," which is ridiculous considering the restaurant was nearly empty and the indoor seating area is quite small. ​The most shocking part occurred when a middle-aged blonde staff member picked up the pizza and directly touched the food with her bare fingers to check the temperature. When I calmly explained that I no longer wanted the pizza because she had touched it, she became incredibly rude, told me "no pizza for you," and accused me of being the rude one while walking away. ​Mistakes with orders happen, but the lack of basic hygiene and the hostile attitude from the staff made this a terrible experience. I would not recommend this location if you value professional service or food safety.

Nice outside diner in the heart of Vondelpark, to visit on a sunny day. The ordering via app is smart and fast, waiters are quick and friendly. The food was very good and the portions are abundant. ⚠️ Warning: if you choose to sit at the tables right by the creek, keep in mind that some ducks may be strongly against alcohol and will knock down your bear by landing on the table! 😅 Funny jumpscare but the waiter was really understanding and offered us a glass of beer for free, thank you again!! Last note: missed the 5 star because you have to pay to use the restrooms which is a bit unorthodox..

We happened to be there on a sunny day so it was really crowded. It has great beer and definitely try the Dutch balls, I don't remember what they are called, beaten balen, something like that. The park is great for walking and cycling, however it gets very crowded...

A wonderful place nestled in the greenery of the park! Outside, there are plenty of tables with chairs and picnic tables, and next to it, a spectacular play area filled with tons of toys for children of all ages (swings, slides, a pulley, a sandbox, etc.). It's honestly really nice to be able to grab a bite to eat while letting the kids play. I really appreciated everything!

Very little choice in the afternoon, only three ice creams, two types of cake, and so crowded that it was impossible to find a table. At some tables you can order with a QR code, at others you can't, and you're forced to wait in line for at least 10 minutes for two drinks.

The best restaurant in the park!! It was absolutely gorgeous, the beer was cheap, and the food came out really fast, hot and fresh. The bitterballen and the French fries were both delicious. I wish I could spend my whole afternoon here

Nice informal place for lunch. Very family-friendly with a large playground next door. I wasn't that thrilled with the marinated olives. They were a bit soft and the marinade flavor was a little too strong. They could include some more low-carb options on the menu. Good quality tea here.

On March 17, 2026, I ordered a burger to relax and have a snack. A hair was found in my burger. They didn't apologize or try to make amends. They also charged me for a drink I ordered beforehand but didn't drink. It's a very impolite establishment; I definitely do not recommend it.

On a sunny day this is a great place to sit and relax. We had nachos with guacamole, tomato salsa and sour cream, and French fries with beef stew sauce, together with a beer — everything was delicious. Ordering was very easy and the food arrived quickly, which made the experience even better.

Try harder… Nice place, but the food and drinks suck. Drinks are not cold, food that should be fried is prepared in the oven or air frier, and is not crispy but rather dry. Toastie bread is dry and without any butter. Typical lazy Dutch place that is fine with “good enough”, but charges you like it’s the real deal. But it’s a nice outdoor area for kids, so will still go unfortunately

We literally went in for a drink and must have waited 30 minutes. I ended up asking to have our drink order taken as not a single staff member came over once we'd been seated. Very poor experience sadly.

When exploring the grounds, it's worth stopping here for a break, a delicious meal, and a good drink :) I recommend the entire menu, as it's delicious and worth the price ;)

We waited an hour and then went to the bar to ask if they'd forgotten us. Then we asked where our food was, and they said it was coming, and then they'd forgotten us again. We ended up going somewhere else.

A small beer for almost €6 is very expensive. The service was friendly, but it took ages for someone to come and take our order, and nobody came to collect the bill. We had to go inside to pay or just leave without paying. I'm sure nobody would have noticed, especially so close to closing time. But okay. Typical Amsterdam tourist area.

We celebrated our office Christmas party at Groot Melkhuis, and it has been a wonderful evening, thanks to the great staff! They were super friendly and accommodated every single wish we had. They served a very good Christmas menu (which got lots of compliments) and made us feel super welcome. We couldn’t have made a better choice!

What a great place!! I was there for my niece's birthday, which was just one year old. The service was excellent. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. We were truly spoiled with lots of snacks and a great variety.

Had the winter salad - grilled halloumi, squash, lentils. Delicious and filling. My cappuccino was ok. I prefer the milk heated to a bit more flavor.

After years of cheesy food and drinks and a lack of enthusiasm, the place seems to be experiencing a breath of fresh air. More seating, cozy tents with lights, and a greater mix of young and old. Of course, there are still plenty of expats, but the atmosphere is improving, and Dutch is spoken here and there. This is truly what the dairy deserves, with such a unique location. Kudos to the new vision.

The restrooms are separate at the back of the building, so you can also just go directly from outside. The lady was friendly, but it was a 50-cent entrance fee, but in return, you get clean restrooms.

The setup is very efficient — you simply find a table, scan the QR code to order and pay, and your order is served to you without any waiting for staff. Service was quick, and although we only had drinks, everything was great. The toilet is managed separately (I believe by someone else) and costs €0.50 per person. Definitely recommended for a short break while walking in the park.

We initially wanted to have breakfast in the self-service area of ​​the restaurant, but after about five minutes of waiting at the counter, we weren't greeted or asked for a seat. So we moved on and only later realized that the service area was part of the same restaurant. There, we ordered using a QR code, paid, and were asked to add a tip in advance, even though no service had been provided up to that point. After about 30 minutes, our food (a burger and a cheese sandwich) finally arrived, even though the restaurant was almost empty. Everything tasted fine, but the overall flow and service were disappointing.
