Good, nothing special, small portions, high prices

We ordered several dishes a la cart. Almost all of them were too plain and fat. A little disappointed about them. Also waiting time was > 20min between dishes, though the service in overall was fine. We expected a little bit more by reviews and description, maybe surprise menu is okay.

I I absolutely loved Guillotine , i choosed vegetarian options there ! it’s a true gem in Utrecht. I came here for the culinary experience, and it definitely delivered. The dishes are refined, beautifully presented, and made with high-quality ingredients. Portions are on the smaller side, but that’s exactly what you want when every bite is so well thought out and delicious. It’s not just about eating – it’s about savouring. I really enjoyed my time here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a more elevated dining experience.

It was a nice place, very nice area and inside. The waiter was very very nice and joyful. For the food there weren’t many options but the food we got was amazing. Would recommend going there. Personally I had the croque madame, and it was amazing, just the right size too.

I only had a crémant d'Alsace and two oysters, but will be back to try the dinner menu. Lovely little spot, great service and wine advice; they really go the extra mile in terms of service and even entertainment. Staff seemed to be enjoying themselves (which is a rare thing). The oysters were on the smallers side though - I was attracted by the sign outside saying "oysters 2 euros". Maybe a bit too good to be true nowdays. But I found the dill oil to be a nice touch, on top of the standard toppings.

Not only beautiful presentation of dishes, but the flavors are perfection. Beautiful wines and signature cocktails are also of top quality. Hosts provide fun and advice in a very pure way. The watermelon sashimi is worthy of Michelin!

This place is such a gem! The food is so elevated and delicious. I love that they change the menu up depending on what’s available in the season. We were 3 and had many plates to share which is a great concept as you can try so many of the dishes that way. The cocktail menu is fantastic too. Waiter was lovely and explained all the dishes.

I went here for dinner with a friend on January 3. The waitress and server were great! Sincerely good, there is nothing to complain about. The oysters were truly great. Little to no grit. We then went for the 6 course menu. The wait between dishes was far too long, there was 30 minutes between each course. And the dessert took 45 minutes. This was honestly way too long. The wine was served very kindly, but if someone waited 45 minutes I might have expected a little more. I was told that they had lost that receipt and that can of course happen. I personally liked the 1st dish, but it was simple with the cauliflower and hummus. 2nd dish was really great! Nice combination. I found the 3rd dish to be a real disappointment and my fish was way too salty. 4th course, the main course was again far too simple, the game stew was good, but everything was not really surprising. 5th dish was very tasty. And the dessert was fine but not special. All in all, I would come back for the oysters, but I wouldn't come back for the 6 course menu.

I have been coming to Guillotine for years. A very nice place in the heart of Utrecht with friendly staff and a warm atmosphere. The food is simple, but delicious.

Yes, yes, yes! What a gem just downtown Utrecht. Sat by the window with a view of the canal, great! What a wonderful evening with great service and delicious food and drinks.

We drank delicious wine here and ate a really delicious cheese board. We also ordered a cocktail from the seasonal menu and they were also very tasty. Definitely recommended!

Stopped here for lunch while visiting town. Was skeptical at first given a rather small and sandwich oriented lunch menu. But ended up eating one of the best, if not the best, pastrami sandwich I’ve ever had. My partner really enjoyed her cucumber soup. Great food, relaxing atmosphere, large drinks menu and good service. We would highly recommend it for a reasonably priced lunch stop.

I have eaten at Guillotine before, but I am always surprised by the delicious and new dishes. The service and especially the hostess are super attentive and friendly and are happy to think along with you about drinks with the dishes, dietary requirements and always tell you exactly what is on your plate. Definitely recommended!

Normally no choice is a good choice (such as with c'est ca in the 030) but last night we came off badly. The starter and main course were unimaginative (salmon in cucumber juice and pork belly) and the proportion was below par. It is that after a few bites of pork belly you are no longer hungry, but otherwise you cannot avoid fast food later in the evening. Atmosphere otherwise fine, wine nothing special. Based on this evening, definitely not recommended.

The food, the staff and the whole experience are simply sublime

Wauw wat was dit een goede keuze. Hele vriendelijke ontvangst. Vervolgens het 4 gangen menu gekozen. Originele gerechten, zag er mooi uit, en alle losse onderdelen waren heel lekker op smaak en pasten bij elkaar. De wijn was zeer goed, originele biertjes op de kaart die ook nog eens heel smakelijk waren. Dit alles afgesloten met echt goede koffie en hele vriendelijke obers. En dit ook nog voor een hele goed betaalbare prijs. Echt geweldig!

Had a super tasty meal yesterday. Very tasty dishes, nice to share with each other. We ate almost all the dishes, it was that tasty. Also nice range of wines. Very nice atmosphere and hospitality. We will definitely come back. Recommended for people who like good food and a nice atmosphere. How much you want to spend is entirely up to you, we worked out well and then you will spend approximately 100 pp. But definitely worth it!

Nice restaurant in the city center, the dishes are well seasoned with very nice matching wines, the service is very pleasant, personal and yet professional. We will definitely come back here again

Our kind server explained the wondrous dishes the kitchen created while we enjoyed some very fancy drinks and I for one enjoyed every single one, if you are willing to give some out of the ordinary dishes a chance you are in luck and if not, the card certainly will offer something for you as well

Wether for ahare dnning or a surprise 4 course meal, the Guillotine serves! The food is unique and deliciously presented . In terms or type of food they offer French and italian insipred recipes and flavors all with their own touch. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable. Morover the service is top notch.

The place looks nice and the menu looks good but the food was just dissapointing, it had nice presentation but it just didn’t taste very well. Arancini’s rice was dry, the brisket was hard and my dessert, a lemon parfait, was served frozen

Precioso lugar con una mesa de mostrador con sillas altas frente al canal. Buen servicio (inglés perfecto) y excelentes recomendaciones. No es exigente para el consumo y respetuoso con la elección de alimentos / bebidas. El lugar de tapas - compartir tipo es mejor para grupos más grandes sin embargo. Volveré con amigos seguro si volviera a visitar Utrecht.

Surprised by the creativity of this kitchen. Salmon made from Watermelon and carpaccio from swordfish. Very worthwhile. Atmosphere is very homely. I think the restaurant should show a little more what they have to offer.

Absolutely love the place. My hubby and I went there for dinner. Atmosphere was really nice and they had a corner table next to the stairs on upper deck where we sat down next to each other. Food was really amazing and was always warm (except for the scallops if that was what you ordered). The staffs were also very friendly and if you are new to the location they would explain the dishes and how the menu works. Most of the dishes we had were BITES and my hubby and I shared the food. It is always nice to share bites with your partner as you talk about random stuffs throughout the evening.

Nice and cozy restaurant. The staff is enthusiastic and very friendly. We were recommended delicious wines. We especially liked the meat dish, the dishes before that sometimes lacked a few things in terms of taste or structure. Nevertheless, we had a very nice meal and drink.

Absolutely amazing place, we were lucky to be seated as it seemed quite full for dinner time, so I'd recommend making a reservation. We had the option to choose either 4 or 5 course menu which is seasonal or dishes to share, which you can order more at once and you get portions which are enough to share for 2 people. We went the sharing route and in the end we tried everything from the fish, meat and 2 meals from the vegetarian options and everything was just fabulous. Great flavours, everything fresh, quick, we left with a big smile on our face. Service was also nice, easy outgoing people who seem to do what they love so we were very pleased with our visit. Popped in as walking past. Dining area up some stairs to back looks out to canal. Nice viewpoint. Good selection of drinks including zero beers and excellent recommendations. Reasonable selection of wines. Food was delicious. Sweet potato soup would benefit with coming with a slice or two of baguette? It was very nice though. Friendly attentive staff. Nice ambience and we were not hurried. Happily return.

Nice place, friendly welcome and friendly service. The tables are not too close together, which is also nice. It is a menu with small dishes to share (or not). There is also an option to take 4 or 5 courses from the chef. These are dishes outside the menu. We started the evening with a bubble. Since we weren't that hungry, we decided to order a la carte. For the first course we chose the cod with Jerusalem artichoke and black pasta, the sea bass ceviche and the leekine. The cod was well cooked and the Jerusalem artichoke was well present. The pasta was just a bit through. Taste-wise it was nice. The leek was ok, the crumb sprinkled on top was very salty. This made the terine taste a bit bland. The leek was soft and well prepared. The ceviche was tasty. Personally, I cut the fillet into small pieces and tossed them well in the sauce so that everything could cook evenly. But taste-wise it was fine. The mango and red pepper also added something. A bit unusual, but then we ordered the bread and fried cauliflower florets. Bread is bread, nothing to complain about. The cauliflower was a bit on the greasy side and the sauce didn't add much. It is also fine as a snack. For dessert we chose to have an espresso martini. This is not a classic one, but one that has Baileys in it (not mentioned on the menu I believe). It's tasty, but not an espresso martini. Fortunately, the staff is so attentive that they made an original one for free. It's a nice thing. I would definitely come back. I do think that a little more finesse would make the experience even more pleasant and that they might get that 5th star.

We had a very nice and pleasant meal. Unfortunately, we have to honestly admit that we experienced the food below expectations. We were surprised with the 5-course surprise mint including wine package, it was a surprise. Maybe we are spoiled because we are culinary experienced and are not used to this in terms of price and quality. We allowed ourselves to suffer because of social media and other reviews. Nothing to complain about from the wait staff!

The food is delicious, but the portions are very tiny. Even after ordering more than recommended amount of dishes, I came home hungry and made myself a dinner. Non-alcoholic cocktails are absolutely awesome. The waiter was very helpful, explained all the dishes and answered any questions we had. Very cozy atmosphere as well.

It was rather a disappointment. My partner and I came here for lunch. We had drinks and soups. Soups were watery, not much for the price you pay. We’ve been waiting for main food for next 40 minutes, followed up, but it still didn’t come. So, after spending more than an hour we left without having our lunch.

Een hele leuke avond hier gehad! Gastvrij ontvangst en het 4 gangen menu is zeker aan te raden. Iedere gang heeft heerlijke smaken en bediend met een glimlach. Aanrader voor een leuk avondje tafelen.

Nu al twee keer lekker gegeten en gedronken. Verrast door de bijzondere bewerking van de gerechten, uitstekend van smaak en steeds met een 'twist'. Nieuwe kaart ten opzichte van afgelopen zomer, heerlijk en opnieuw verrassend. We waren nu met z'n tweetjes en hebben samen twee voorgerechten, twee hoofdgerechten en twee nagerechten gedeeld, om zo veel mogelijk te kunnen proeven. Heerlijk wijntje erbij. Smaakvol, origineel en afwisselend. Bediening was vlot, super vriendelijk en kundig. Aanrader!

Heel leuk concept met kleine gerechtjes die stuk voor stuk heel erg lekker zijn. De obers zijn ook heel vriendelijk. Zeer gezellige locatie. We zaten aan de hoge tafels met zicht op de grachten.

In dieser hübschen Location haben wir eine Rast eingelegt und wurden bestens bewirtet. Eine sehr nette Bedienung brachte uns die üblichen Getränke und einen kleinen Snack. Man bewerte es nicht über, dass es hier nur 4 Sterne gibt - das ist für einen Snack sehr gut. Der Blick auf die Gracht und die Ruhe sind sehr schön, obwohl es zentral liegt. Eine Empfehlung!

Echt een aanrader, naam van de ober helaas vergeten maar hij zorgde echt voor een sfeervolle avond en gaf goede tips over het eten en de wijn. Eten is ook echt lekker!

Drie sterren ivm de prijs kwaliteit verhouding. 65€ pp incl fooi l. Het eten is goed verzorgd en mooi opgediend. De kleine hapjes zijn leuk, hoewel met zijn drieën delen is wel erg krap (standaard bestek indelen om die te kunnen delen lijkt mij een must). Mooi en gezellige locatie. Vriendelijk personeel. Het grootste minpunt voor mij was dat het eten over het algemeen braaf en vlak was. Alleen de garnalen ceviche verraste mij postief, de overige gerechtjes zou ik niet per se nog eens bestellen (we hadden alle vlees gerechten, octopus, de garnalen, portobella, polenta, burrata, bloedende aardbei, passievrucht en de chocolade mousse). Zou het restaurant niet uit de weg gaan, echter zou ik er ook niet snel nog eens komen.

Wat hebben we hier lekker en gezellig geluncht. En dat dankzij een krijtbord op de stoep, oesters € 1,50 per stuk tussen 12:00 en 16:00. Dat hebben we geweten met zijn drietjes. Na er 24 te hebben verorberd nog een lekker broodje burrata genomen. Was verrukkelijk. En we werden zo aardig, leuk en attent geholpen dat alles zo op 5 sterren wordt beoordeeld. Ik ga snel weer een excuus verzinnen voor een ochtendje Utrecht, dan kunnen we weer langsgaan.

Leuke plek, goed eten, vriendelijk personeel, en uitnodigende sfeer. Zeker een aanrader, en met de kleine gerechten van hoge kwaliteit die je kan delen (of juist niet) een leukere ervaring dan gewoon uit eten. Bar aan het raam is zeker aanrader.

Op een charmante locatie in het centrum van Utrecht, wordt je gerecht voor gerecht verrast met heerlijke smaken. Schitterende opmaak, maar bovenal erg lekker! Onze gastvrouw was vriendelijk, heeft ons goed geadviseerd én in de watten gelegd. Echt een aanrader!

We have a lovely evening at Guillotine. Excellent food, particularly the fish and chicken, but all was excellent. Delicious and special cocktails. Great service. We were lucky to sit by the windows to the canal, very much enjoyed it.

Super lekker geborreld, daarna door gegaan aan de avond kaart. Verassende smaken en zeer bekwaam personeel. Afgesloten met wat leuke whisky’s waar met enthousiasme over verteld wordt. Kortom top avond!

Leuk tentje met originele gerechten en persoonlijke service. Enige negatieve puntje dat ik kan bedenken is dat sommige gerechtjes wel heel summier geserveerd worden, bij het maiskippetje zaten echt maar 2 kleine hapjes kip.

Fijne locatie met mooi uitzicht en uitstekende akoestiek. Ik bestelde als lunch bospaddestoelen op getoast brood met bieslookroomsaus. Jammer dat de bospaddestoelen niet voldoende op temperatuur waren. Ze waren lauw. Toen ik erover klaagde werd er gezegd dat de keuken dat niet voor elkaar kreeg, dat paddestoelen tijdens het opdienen altijd snel afkoelen. Al met al was het eigenlijk bij elkaar een lekker broodje. Wel was de portie nogal aan de kleine kant. En de koffie werd in een klein aardewerken tonnetje opgediend en zonder oortje eraan. Door het aardewerk proefde ik niets van de koffie. Dus geen tweede kopje besteld. Bediening was hartelijk en vriendelijk.

Heerlijk glas wijn, lekkere lunch broodje tonijn gegeten. Mooie locatie aan het water.

I had such high expectations for this restaurant after reading the good reviews but it was big Disappointment. The parmezaan crème brule was the worst thing I have ever tasted it was sweet and watery and cold. The best part of this restaurant was the wine and the bread!

Central restaurant in Utrecht serving dishes to share with a bistro experience. This restaurant is a good shot if you haven't reserved on a Friday or Saturday evening. We started with 6 oysters which were nice and fresh. We had beef brisket, sea wolf (fish), chicken and parmesan 'creme brulee'. The last dish was supposed to be a sort of cold carbonara without pasta, it didn't taste good. The brisket was not tender so we mentioned this and the waiter kindly removed it from the bill. The other two dishes tasted very very good, totally contrasting the other two dishes. We actually ordered the fish again because it tasted so good. Service was friendly and efficient although not very personal. Wines were slightly expensive for their quality.

Guillotine serves little dishes to share that are extraordinary. Every dish is a surprise for your tong. The most surprising dish was the watermelon. I assure you you will be equally surprised. Staff was very friendly and very helpful in choosing the right dishes and the right wine to accompany the dish. You really need to make a reservation because it is usually fully booked. Happy to had a change to get in and dine there 😊👍🏻
