Helling 7 in Noordelijke IJ-oevers West

We visited Helling 7 for a birthday celebration and had a wonderful dining experience. The service was warm and attentive throughout the evening, with the staff regularly checking in without ever being intrusive. We started with two small bites. The grilled North Sea shellfish were excellent—the grilling concentrated all the flavors, making the meat incredibly rich and delicious. The grilled breadstick was crispy, light, and nicely seasoned with herbs. For starters, we shared the tuna and the entrecôte carpaccio. The entrecôte was our favorite, perfectly seasoned and beautifully balanced with the sweetness of the tomatoes and the freshness of the radish. For the main course, we shared the signature sea bass. The portion was generous, and the fish was cooked perfectly with wonderfully crispy skin. The sauce, enriched with fish roe, was flavorful and added a nice contrast in texture, although it became a little heavier towards the end of the meal. We chose eggplant and grilled bell peppers as side dishes. The eggplant had a bit too much spring onion for my personal taste, but the grilled bell peppers with feta sauce were an absolute highlight. They were so delicious that we’d happily come back just to order them again. Even though we were already very full, we couldn’t resist trying one dessert, and we’re so glad we did. It was exceptional—the banana purée paired beautifully with the chocolate, caramel sauce, and ice cream, creating a perfectly balanced finish to the meal. We’re already looking forward to returning when the seasonal menu changes to try more of the chef’s creations. Highly recommended!

Everything was right: the food was perfect, the service friendly, and the restaurant situated by the water. The location was beautifully situated at De Helling, an old shipyard, partially preserved in its original state. In short, a beautiful setting to dine there more often.

Warning for wheelchair users: do not be misled by the information on the website, Google Maps, or the telephone AI assistant. Based on that information, Helling 7 appears to be wheelchair accessible, but the tables are only accessible via an internal staircase. We chose Helling 7 because the restaurant looked very nice, has a beautiful view, and the menu appealed to us. Unfortunately, our visit turned out to be a disappointment. Someone in our party is wheelchair-bound. That is why I always carefully check beforehand whether a restaurant is accessible. The website clearly states that an elevator is available. Google Maps also indicates that the restaurant is wheelchair accessible. To be sure, I called the restaurant in advance. I didn't get an employee on the line, but an AI assistant. I explicitly asked if the restaurant is wheelchair accessible. The AI ​​assistant replied that the restaurant is wheelchair accessible, that an elevator is available, and that only the toilet is not wheelchair accessible. Based on that information, we went to the restaurant. Upon arrival, an employee helped us up the elevator. Moreover, it was clearly visible that someone in our party was in a wheelchair. However, we were not told that from there, the only way to reach the restaurant area with the regular tables is via a staircase. Once upstairs, there were only high tables that a wheelchair user cannot sit at. As we walked further, it turned out that you had to go down a staircase to reach the other tables. That was a complete surprise. I had not been able to find any indication on the website or in the photo gallery that there is another staircase inside that poses an obstacle for wheelchair users. If that had been clear beforehand, we would have chosen a different restaurant. What we found perhaps most disappointing was the reaction of the staff. Virtually no apologies were offered, and there seemed to be little understanding of the situation. When I pointed out that this restriction should be clearly stated on the website so that wheelchair users do not face the same surprise, there was hardly any response. I understand that not every building can be fully wheelchair accessible. That is not a problem in itself. But then communicate about it honestly and clearly. The combination of the website, the mention of an elevator, the wheelchair accessibility on Google Maps, and the confirmation from the AI ​​assistant gave us the confidence that this restaurant was suitable. Unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case. I hope that Helling 7 updates the information so that other wheelchair users and their companions do not have to go through the same disappointing experience.

Fantastic place Very unusual industrial chic but extremely well done with views over working shipyards. Restaurant constructed from re-engineered parts of the industrial buildings and boats. Entrance is up very rusty derelict metal stairs belying the stunning ambience of the restaurant above. Delicious food and very helpful staff willing to recommend unusual wine and food choices.

A great business dinner evening! Helling 7 is a great restaurant with a beautiful view from and to Amsterdam. The service is extraordinary and the food delicious. We had a starter selection and the beef/fish main course mix. The taste of the bbq grill is a highlight but not dominant. An absolute recommendation when you are in Amsterdam!

A very charming restaurant with an industrial style. The food is carefully prepared and features sometimes unusual but very interesting combinations of ingredients. The only downside is the setting sun, which creates a greenhouse effect, forcing guests to wear sunglasses when sitting facing the sun.

The food is oke, in my opinion they used a lot of the same ingredients in different dishes. Easy for the kitchen I get it. But for the money maybe a bit too much. We were with 7 and had to take a group menu. Maybe that’s why it was quit similar. Wines were great. Would recommend to go not with 7.

Had a fantastic evening. The food and drinks were delicious. The timing of the service was very relaxed and just right. We were there on a Tuesday evening, so we weren't held to the closing time, which I really consider a plus. The place also remains truly special. We would love to come back.

Helling 7 is definitely one of the best restaurants in Amsterdam! Here we found an exquisite Menu à la Carte where every dish we tried had a perfectly balanced and rich set of flavours. I cannot recommend enough the Pumpking ! The staff is incredibly nice and frendly, overall a 10/10 culinary experience :)

All the original features of the former shipyard are still there, making it a wonderful place to dine while watching enormous ships moor just 20 meters away. I had dinner here yesterday and it was an amazing experience! I chose the chef’s menu while my mom ordered a la carte - everything we tried was delicious and full of incredible flavors. I also had a wonderful cocktail and the wine was fantastic too, and the dessert was absolutely to die for. Lastly, the service was excellent, while the restaurant itself is beautifully designed inside. I would definitely recommend it!

Helling 7 is a great spot, especially in the summer. This time, it was a bit disappointing. The pumpkin was raw and the portion small. The service was inflexible in choosing a table, even though there was plenty of room. If this was an isolated incident and they keep an eye on the (high) prices, I'll be back. For Helling 7: You've previously received feedback about the uncomfortable chairs, the service, and the high (basic) prices, and you promised improvements. However, nothing has changed. Was your promise sincere?

Another delicious meal with Chef Carl! Fantastic wines and a very pleasant atmosphere.

We came across this place purely by chance while we were in the area. However, we were slightly put off right away by the rather American-style service (including asking for Tips when payment). The staff kept asking personal questions, why we were in the area, what we do for work, and so on, and this continued throughout the meal. While that level of engagement might be common in the U.S., in the Netherlands you usually only experience this kind of interaction in upscale fine-dining restaurants. Helling 7, however, is nothing like that, the food is cheap and not on the luxury/quality level that typically comes with this type of service. For a restaurant like Helling 7, I would prefer a more Dutch approach. When I’m out with my guests, I want to talk with them, not with the staff. Trying to be something you’re not is almost never a good idea. That said, the food was absolutely excellent for the price, beautifully prepared, served promptly, and of genuinely great quality. Every dish was delicious. All in all, Helling 7 is a very good restaurant with fantastic food. But the service was a disappointment for me, I wouldn’t visit again because of that, though I would still recommend it to others, with a small word of caution.

Nice food and great views, even though it’s a bit far out from the centre!

After a somewhat chaotic reception, a colleague said, "My colleague will be with you shortly." A colleague walked past five times without saying anything, and after five minutes, a somewhat irritated "Can I help you?" Then came a delicious menu and great service in a unique location, with impressive surroundings even in the autumn showers.

I would give an overall a 6.8/10 for this place. Went with a friend on my birthday and we both took the chef’s course menu. It was creative but the main course steak was quite disappointing. It was boring, the salty sauce overtook the original taste of the steak. The starters (octopus) stood out among the dishes tho, and the rest were just okay. With this price you do have other options with better food in the city, considering the location is also hard to reach. The view was great, even on a rainy day, but it was too noisy so I wouldn't recommend it if you're sensitive to noise. I also have to mention that the layout was really bad. Everyone was sitting so close by. We were placed in between two desks and whenever the waiter had to come over to serve the table on the corner, he kept rubbing the jacket hung on my seat. It was quite interrupting and annoying. May be a one-time visit.

My favorite restaurant in Amsterdam! Amazing location - both inside and outside - and delicious food. Not too heavy, vegetarian friendly and a good selection of wines and cocktails. Service is really good and friendly too! Always happy to return!

The food was delicious. Beautiful, flavorful dishes. The staff was helpful, kind, and friendly. Unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks. The tables are simply too small and too close together. Furthermore, the acoustics are terrible. It's a cacophony of sound. People chatting interspersed with the music.

Terrible establishment. Saw the staff upon arrival, but had to wait for a table despite having made a reservation. I've rarely eaten so poorly. The food was too salty, the steak was overcooked, and the dishes were completely unbalanced. The waitstaff (except for the sommelier) lacked knowledge. They didn't ask if everything was to your liking, even though our plates were half empty. After each course, we sat with empty plates for at least 15 minutes. I'll never go back.

Celebrated my nephew's graduation on slope 7. First we had drinks outside, and then the table inside was filled with delicious treats. Great atmosphere and good service!

We really had a great time at Heling7 yesterday. The service and ambience were excellent. Though we did not have any wine, the wine selection was quite impressive. The food was well cooked and tasty but it was slightly under-seasoned. We had the melon-feta to start us off and a flat iron and a skate for mains. We also had leaks for sides. While the flat iron was a standout (proper medium rare, and well seasoned), the other dishes could have been better with a sprinkle of salt. Despite that the food was tasty and fresh and we enjoyed our visit at Heling7. Wishing the team, the best.

The dinner took 3.5 hours for a 4 course meal. There was an hour wait between our 2nd and 3rd course. The food good but not worth the wait or price. There are better places closer to the heart of Amsterdam.

However, we would also like to mention a few minor points: at the beginning of the evening, there was a dirty wine glass on the table, the restrooms weren't completely clean, and the hard chairs made it difficult to truly relax and enjoy a four-course dinner (perhaps pillows would help). Furthermore, we didn't find the music in the restaurant to be beneficial, especially when it echoes with the many guests chatting. Thank you again for your hospitality and the wonderful evening!

Good food, not every course was great, but there were a few good ones. I was a bit disappointed to see that you have to pay for a bottle of tap water as a "water service." For such an expensive meal, I find it a bit of a shame. There was also no sandwich beforehand, although you could buy it. Perhaps I've become a bit spoiled.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, and the overall ambience was great, with good music and an enjoyable level of noise.

We love this restaurant. The location atmosphere are unique. We came back the other day for their dessert, but unfortunately they changed it. We understood it took a lot of time to make the top cookie, but it literally made us come back, so we hope they will bring it back in the future! Other than that wonderful restaurant!

A niché restaurant located in the North of Amsterdam in the midst of active and forgotten shipping vessels. After ascending a rusty set of stairs, you are atop an old tower overlooking the harbour and the water. The food was excellent and definelty met our expectations; however, it was pricey for what we got. We had the hamachi tartare, the flat iron with the leek side dish and the salad side dish to complement it. All were properly sized dishes that were really tasty and filling!! Certain standards were not present that were upheld for other guests such as food presentation which we lacked upon receiving our food. Another observation is that we received white wine glasses for our red wine, something that wasn't an issue to other tables adjacent to ours. Overall: minor issues that need to be addressed on the staffing side but this did not subtract from a charming, pleasant evening with great food and an overall amazing experience. Mg verdict would be 4.5/5 would that be possible!

We went to celebrate a friends birthday. We were late, but they kept the table for us. The server was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with food and wine recommendations. The food was excellent, and the wine pairing was amazing as well. Highly recommend this place !

Beautiful and unique location. We had a table with a lovely view of the IJ. All the dishes on the five-course menu were fantastic. What was disappointing was the service. They were friendly, but we felt like we were constantly being forgotten. A 40-minute wait for an order is quite long (and I even had to wave to them). Between courses, the food sometimes took too long to arrive. I even had to ask for a refill of wine. Despite this, I would still return because we had a delicious meal.

Helling 7 is a great spot, fantastic food and ambiance and wonderful service. The wine was also a treat!

Helling 7 was a pleasant surprise for us. The building, constructed from old materials, is fantastic, and the location on the former shipyard overlooking the water is also fantastic, of course. We tried the vegetarian menu and a fish dish, and they were excellent. The only downside was the overly spicy celeriac steak, which drowned out the flavor of the excellent ingredients. The service, provided by a small army of very young women, was exceptionally quick and attentive despite the crowd. The price for the menu was high, and more in line with restaurants with greater culinary ambitions on the other side of the IJ. Still, it was definitely worth it!

We had a fantastic meal at Helling 7! What a fantastic evening we had at Helling 7 in Amsterdam! We had a delicious meal – truly high quality, with beautiful flavors and super fresh preparation. It was my boyfriend's birthday, and this dinner was a gift for him. He was thrilled and enjoyed himself from start to finish. What really stood out for us was the service. We didn't like a cocktail, and they made it for us without any problem. The bartender even came over personally to ask what we didn't like – we thought that was truly classy and demonstrates genuine care for the guests. In short: a great atmosphere, fantastic food, top-notch service, and an unforgettable evening. We will definitely be back!

We had the SAIL event booked like 5-6 weeks ago. I identified our dietary restrictions, but this has been completely ignored. I have an auto immune disease and my partner is going through chemotherapy at the moment, so we are both on a sugar free diet. Restaurants accommodate us 95% of the time, when it’s not possible they email or call me and then we cancel the reservation. It was a big drama, that you are not able accommodate this and no other choice then the chocolate dessert was available. You did not even try to offer something else like from the snack menu. I also don’t understand why you ask about dietary restrictions if you ignore them. We paid 85 euros per person for three small dishes (as we didn’t eat the dessert) and left hungry. Negative experience unfortunately. We loved your dishes at the BITE festival and were looking forward to come and dine with you. But we were disappointed.

Delicious and well presented SAIL menu

Had dinner here during SAIL. Expected to see the SAIL event from their restaurant as advertised, but this location was not close to any of the ships - couldn't see anything. We reserved a table for 5, and instead got a table for four where they added a chair next to a busy staircase. I can forgive it due to the hustle for the SAIL event, and maybe this is a very normal thing in restaurant, but I did expect a fine dining restaurant to choose quality over quantity and offer each guest a regular seat at a table. It felt too awkward to start a discussion over this with the staff. The restaurant itself is beautiful, a real pleasure to sit and eat. The food was nice, but didn't blow us away - I mean, we had mashed food in 3 out of 4 dishes (mashed corn, carrot, potatoes). Not too inspired. The 4 course menu was also more expensive due to SAIL, which was not communicated beforehand: 85 instead of 60 EUR (didn't say on the menu they gave us, or maybe the staff was supposed to mention it). The initial staff, as we got seated, wasn't very welcoming - it was a bad start of the evening, but eventually our actual waiter did do a good job. All in all, in hindsight it feels more of an easy money grab for them, than a spectacular experience for us. It would have been better if we didn't come during SAIL.

We were here for the SAIL event, so that might be the reason but the price/quality ratio is ridiculously off. The set menu was consisting of 4 dishes (1 of them is desert) and it was 85 euro? I would be fine if the main dish was interesting, but it was a flat iron steak. At the end of the day this place is known for their cooked on fire dishes and the flat iron steak did not give the fire grill taste at all, which is disappointing. The other dishes were all great, and actually refreshing for Amsterdam food scene. They were all interesting and successfully delivered. The wine pairing was also almost perfect. The service and atmosphere is great, but I wish I did not come here for the SAIL event, because there was no boat passing by at the moment we were there and it just ended up being a mandatory set menu for us. Of course this is not the restaurant’s fault. I also tend to not rate based on prices, so my feeling for the dinner was 4 stars before the check. Good service, good atmosphere and very nice dishes except the main dish (which was not bad, but pretty standard and boring).

Excellent restaurant. An absolute gem in an unlikely location. Beautifully transformed space. On a nice weather day, it's truly a delight to be at Helling 7. I personally loved being in this space and have it feel like somewhere other than Amsterdam — it was a breath of fresh air. At the same time, it is very characteristically Amsterdam in its identity, as it's a converted shipyard overlooking the Ij. The sea bass with beurre blanc was the star of the show. Fantastic dish. Super fresh fish, delicious sauce. I still think about it regularly. The hamachi starter was also exceptional. The carrot starter is good, I'd recommend it. We also had the poussin main dish, and that was also perfectly made. The food at Helling 7 is truly excellent. Service can be slow at times, definitely slightly longer waiting times between dishes, but still manageable I'd say.

Nothing special, yeah the food is nice but the the passive aggressive service overshadows everything. We ordered cocktails, and after my friend only drank a quarter if her cocktail, a fly flew right into her drink. We tried to take it out and could not, we called the waitress and told her what happened. She did not say anything and took my friends drink. 5 mins later another waiter comes with a new cocktails, with a passive agressive attitude and he says “here is your new cocktail, please be aware if a a fly flies into your drink again I won’t bring you another full drink so I advise you take it out yourself”. First, we did not even ask for a new drink? It was the waitress who took the drink and kindly took care of the situation. Second, even if you are not going to make a new drink, do we come to your restaurant to get a lecture on how you won’t make a new drink. How rude and unnecessary.

Too bad it was so windy on the patio. Because of our little dog, we had to sit "outside." It's still a beautiful spot!

I went out for dinner last Thursday night for my birthday. First impressions were great. Beautiful view. Then I had to wait quite a long time for food and drinks. They were very busy. But the next three days were truly awful because of the food poisoning. I really hope you pay more attention to this because I've had three really bad days now and I'm still not 100%. I wish everyone the best and I'm not just giving one star, but I hope you'll really do your best to prevent this in the future.

I made a reservation, but unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I canceled it well in advance, but I haven't received my deposit back. I sent an email and called three times, but so far, no response.

Beautiful elevated terrace with a lovely view in a cool harbor setting. Delicious food, including vegetarian options. Very friendly people and a great atmosphere.

What a wonderful evening we had! We decided to order the five-course menu, and it was a great choice. Kaat enthusiastically explained what was on our plates. When we complimented her on how well she spoke, she told us it was her first day. A waiter passionately shared the delicious wine pairings and shared his wonderful holiday stories about his trip in his self-converted campervan. Then we were pampered by Noa, who offered us a delicious dessert wine that we couldn't miss. It was a night out at a fantastic location and the food was exceptionally good. Highly recommended.

Everything was amazing — the wine, the food (sea bass, carrots, brioche), the service (which is rare in Amsterdam) — 10 stars. The location, view, and vibe were also perfect. But then came the moment we asked to take home what we couldn’t finish, and were told, “This is a fine dining experience.” I’ve never heard that before. I paid for the food — why can’t I take it home? We were full and the restaurant was closing; we simply wanted to enjoy the rest at home. Charge a small fee if needed, but not allowing guests to take what they paid for? For me, either remove it from the bill or it feels like stealing. Sadly, this policy turned an almost perfect experience into a disappointing one. What a shame.

A very positive first experience. In good weather, this is one of the nicest restaurants to sit at in Amsterdam. The sea bass with beurre blanc was the absolute star of the evening. One point for improvement: the staff were occasionally a bit too casual with service (the first cocktail took far too long to arrive, and there was a small mix-up with the desserts). That said, everything was resolved very quickly. Overall, I can highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!

We had a fabulous meal on the outside terrace on a warm, blue sky Sunday evening. Nice selection of beverages including wine, cocktails as well as mocktails. Options for two set meal options and a la carte. Good variety of vegetarian options. The fire grilled sea bass with a beurre blanc sauce was exceptional! Service was overall good and attentive. The music a bit too loud and could be refined. Overall a great experience.

Leuke en bijzondere plek maar eten kan beter gezien de prijs die ervoor gevraagd wordt. Ik had de Hamachi als voorgerecht maar deze visslices dreven in een azijnbad. De zeebaars is de champagne beurre blanc vond ik ook te veel zwemmen in de saus waardoor de smaak van de vis niet meer te herleiden was. Mijn man had de Cote de Boeuf, deze was niet echt warm. De bijgerechten zijn ook een beetje gezocht en de smaken komen er niet echt goed uit. Personeel is informeel en geen bedrijfskleding maar is wel attent en behulpzaam. Kortom: bijzondere plek maar de keuken kan beter. Lijkt op fine dining maar is het niet.

A beautiful location with a lovely view, atmospheric decor, and well-prepared tables – that deserves a compliment. Unfortunately, during our visit, we had a less than stellar experience: both I and my dining companion became ill after dinner (vomiting and intestinal problems). I reported this immediately to the staff and followed up by email, but initially received no response. The champagne service could also have been more attentive, in our opinion. It was first poured into wine glasses and only upon request into flutes, which were then half-filled. For a subsequent order, they suggested refilling the champagne in the same glass. Considering the price and the ambiance of the restaurant, we would have expected a little more care and attention. Heiling 7 has since contacted us, and we were able to resolve the situation amicably. We appreciate that it was addressed and are therefore giving us an extra star. We hope our feedback will contribute to even greater care, professionalism, and hospitality at this beautiful venue.
