HIP Asian Food & More in Dokkum

We ate here for the first time today. On our last visits to Dokkum, it was either full or closed. So today we finally made it. We can highly recommend this restaurant. We opted for the meat and fish set menu for two and sushi for our daughter. It was truly fantastic. They offered a variety of sushi options and other little extras that you wouldn't normally find. The wines are also delicious, and the staff is incredibly friendly. We've been cruising around Friedland and Groningen on our charter boat for a week now, and this has been the best meal we've had so far. We'll definitely be back. We arrived at 7 pm and were rudely turned away even though there was clearly enough space.

We dined at HIP again on Christmas Day. The boat was festively decorated and we were welcomed with a delicious amuse-bouche. This was followed by a tasty, updated starter and the main course in two stages. It was delightful to take a moment to catch our breath in between before starting the second round of the main course. We started on dessert more than satisfied.

Picked up delicious sushi from Hip & Asian Food Dokkum! The order was ready right on time and everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The sushi had a perfect ratio of rice to fish, and the ingredients tasted very fresh. The variety in the box was also top-notch. Friendly service and good value for money. Definitely recommended for sushi lovers in Dokkum. We enjoyed it and will definitely be back! 🍣👌

Highly recommended for sushi lovers (and those about to become so)! We ate sushi at HIP Asian Food for the first time last night and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The sushi was incredibly tasty and freshly prepared. The service was very friendly and created a very pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. An extra nice detail: they serve delicious beer from the local brewery, which paired perfectly with the food. We are fans and will definitely be back!

Always satisfied with HIP Dokkum! We ordered takeout for our wedding. They were very helpful in thinking through the quantities, and we were even allowed to borrow plates. To keep the fried snacks warm, we were given a chafing dish. Very good service and incredibly delicious food!

What a wonderful experience at this place in Dokkum. The presentation of the food is truly a feast for the eyes, with all those different dishes beautifully displayed on the black slate boards. Everything looks incredibly fresh. We especially enjoyed the bao buns with the wooden skewers. It was an extensive meal with a lot of variety, from sushi to shrimp and tender meat. We really enjoyed the great atmosphere and the beautiful dishes. Highly recommended for anyone who loves good food.

Been in Dokkum with the boat for a few years now. Today I got food at Hip. And it was delicious, so when we are in Dokkum again, I will come back to get food.

We ate here last Saturday, 7/03. We have never eaten so well! The sushi was delicious and really fresh. The service was also top-notch. And the staff were very friendly. We will definitely be coming back here more often! Really enjoyed it :)

Super delicious food. Super good service. It took some getting used to the small size, but that also added to the ambiance. A small drawback beyond their control is that the size can make it less pleasant due to noise from other guests: crying children and a noisy guest at the table behind us.

The tuna poke bowl had you searching for the tuna. There were only three pieces, which was very meager. It was more like whole lumps of rice. They've since updated the poke bowl with more tuna and larger pieces. Definitely recommended!

We went here because the reviews were so positive (4.9). But our expectations were still exceeded! Not only the food, but also the staff were fantastic. This is thanks to the strong team that carries it all together. You can tell they put their heart and soul into the restaurant. For example, by making everything fresh and continuously developing the menu.

The food was delicious. The service was excellent, too. It was my birthday, too, but my wife and son didn't tell them ;) It certainly felt festive. And—not unimportantly—there was nice music playing. Not too loud, but it was quiet in the restaurant. So we could listen to it while eating. UPDATE October 2025: We enjoyed our meal here again. The food remains delicious. I chatted with the owner/chef, who told me the menu changes every few months. Well, we'll be happy to come back for that when we're back up north in the summer.

Tonight I dined for the second time and had a wonderful evening at this excellent restaurant, situated in a unique location on a boat in Dokkum. This review can be short and sweet: the sushi and other dishes are exquisite, original and varied, and exceptionally delicious. Everything is beautifully presented, fresh and tastefully served on a stone slab. The owner and his crew are incredibly friendly and truly make you feel like you're "out and yet at home" for an evening. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The atmosphere on the boat deck was fantastic, with a beautiful view of the water and the mill. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the shared fish and meat platter, which was delicious! To finish off, we had the spekkoek tiramisu, which we highly recommend. Overall, we were very satisfied!

We were pleasantly surprised by this gem. I had sushi and gyoza, my wife had a poke bowl, and everything was excellent. The restaurant is on an old sailboat, which makes it such a unique spot. The chef is clearly talented! The sushi was better than most I’ve had in Europe, and it’s right here in a small town in the Netherlands.

We ate here for the first time on Sunday evening. We were very surprised by the lovely location, the friendly atmosphere, and even more so when the food arrived. We had Sharing Sushi Licious for 2 here. It was delicious, full of flavor with fresh ingredients. It was amazing how the chef managed to put something like this together in such a small space, and not just for us, as all the tables were occupied. The waitresses were very friendly and attentive. We had a wonderful meal tonight. Excellent service. We ate so well that we went for two evenings. See you next year and maybe even sooner.

Top restaurant, orginele locatie op een boot. Kok gebruikt veelal verse producten van uit de streek. Bediening aardig en beleeft kom om de havenklap vragen of alles na wens is en duidelijke uitleg of de plank die wij besteld hadden. Kok komt vragen of alles gesmaakt heeft en wat wij van het eten vonden. Aanrader om een keer te gaan eten.

Small disclaimer. I don't like sushi, my wife does. So every year around her birthday I have a sushi experience. Doesn't make me happy, but my wife does. This year at Hip in Dokkum. Now I love Dokkum so the location is well known to me. The atmosphere in the boat was friendly, cozy and quiet. The service was great and the chef fantastic. Those nice people who give you a lot of credit. The food was fantastic. So many fun flavors and textures. Great. I even really liked the sushi, and that's saying something. The dessert (the tasting) was also a real treat. In summary, great. We come here often.

Iedere keer is het hier een feestje om te eten. In de zomer is het genieten op het dakterras. In de winter is het heerlijk vertoeven in het warme en gezellige restaurant. De gerechten zijn stuk voor stuk verrukkelijk. En de kok en gastvrouw zijn geweldig gepassioneerd.

Our boat was literally opposite this restaurant boat. We placed a pick-up order via the internet. This was very easy. A big plus is that you can continue to monitor the status of your order. But the most important thing is that the sushi was really delicious. People will definitely see us here again on their next visit to Dokkum!

Delicious sushi and friendly service. I find the decor a bit bare and lacking in atmosphere. Although beautifully situated with a view of the mill, I do not associate sushi with a houseboat. It gives more pancake vibes.

I ordered two 4-piece portions of sushi (6.95E/portion). The food was very good, no complaints at all. My issue was the portion size. The pieces were about half the size of those served at Minato (Leeuwarden) for which they charge 4.95E. I thought the packet only had one serving rather than the two I had (pre)paid. Nice setting, very pleasant staff.

High quality freshly rolled sushi with a nice terrace on the boat with a view of the water and the mill. The service is very friendly. The sushi was of good quality, but the portions were not very large. You can also sit inside the boat and blankets are also available for the terrace. You can also pay here with American Express credit card.

Tonight we had a delicious meal on top of the boat with a beautiful view over the water. The food is very good and the service is very attentive and friendly. Definitely a place to come back
