Hofje Zonder Zorgen in Oude Stad

Het Hofje zonder Zorgen is a nice but simple place to have lunch or enjoy high tea – right in the heart of Haarlem. They have a number of tables inside, but also offer a terrace. A reservation is not required for drinks or lunch, but you do need to reserve in advance for High Tea. A nice menu with various dishes and sweets. Definitely recommended. The staff is young but driven!

Very tasty, including the sandwiches, salad, soup, and cakes. Minor downsides: dirty glasses. We received clean ones after reporting it. We indicated that we were ordering 3 different pieces of cake but were eating with 6 people. "Then just add extra plates," we said when ordering. We did not receive any extra plates. After asking again, they were brought. All in all, it was a positive experience. The food was tasty, the staff was friendly, and the decor is beautiful.

Friendly staff for whom you didn't have to wait long to be served. Food and cappuccino's were nice. Location is great, interior is tastefully done. Dog friendly place, which is for me a big plus.

We dropped in spontaneously for a quick drink or lunch. We were shown to a spot in a room that felt quite cold and was very noisy. After receiving our drinks, it took a very long time before the waitstaff came by to ask if we wanted anything to eat. After finally ordering food—3 simple sandwiches—we had to wait a whopping hour. Not even an apology; only after we asked where it was were some sort of forced excuses offered. The food wasn't amazing either. Personally, I would prefer to go to a different place next time.

I'm sorry, but the tuna salad really wasn't good. The menu says tuna with apple and onion, but we got indefinable tuna with pieces of carrot and a mountain of mayonnaise and ketchup mixed together....

I don't know what has gone on at the Hofje, but our experience yesterday, unlike all previous times, was dreadful. The cappuccino arrived lukewarm, the tea was like a footbath and was replaced after our complaint, but in a glass that was damaged and hurt our lips. Poached eggs could not be ordered and the replacement paninis were lukewarm, with the ham like some kind of roulade over the cheese. The space has been expanded since the penultimate time. But it was very quiet. The owner would do well to ask himself whether the expansion was such a wise decision, considering the quality.

Nice place to have lunch. Good menu. Nicely decorated space. Fast service. Friendly and helpful staff. Had a delicious meal!!!

We used to like coming here (and often), but it has gone downhill badly since the extra section was added. It is cold there, and the staff is very uninterested. We had to ask for our coffee multiple times, or for things that were missing from breakfast (after asking several times he finally brought our orange juice, but it was just one glass that we were supposed to share or something?), and when we mentioned it, he thought we were complaining. We went two more times, but it was like this every time, so we won't be coming back.

Despite the fact that recent reviews of the high tea were not very positive (said to be very meager), we decided to have a high tea here anyway. It was very tasty, with homemade snacks and more than enough (soup, 4 savory items, 4 sweet items). I had a high tea gift card from Wonderbox (good for a high tea for 2 people); initially, they wanted me to pay an additional €5. They claimed the purchase amount of this card was €5 lower than their price list. Of course, that is not how it works; this card represents 2 high teas, not 2x the value of a high tea. So I didn't pay that extra amount; I found that a very peculiar line of reasoning. In that case, Het Hofje shouldn't be part of this gift card chain.

Stars for the location. Took eggs with feta, there was legit 1 slice of avocado annd maybe 2 feta pieces, and asked for extra sla which was there at all at the end.

I would have liked to see a slightly more extensive menu. I found the selection limited.

You can get a decent vegan cake here. The menu and quality have deteriorated in recent years. The service isn't great either. It's a very nice place, though!

€5 for a scone smaller than any I've ever seen. The chocolate milk tasted like it came from one of those machines you sometimes find in waiting rooms—far too sweet and watery. Service was slow. If you like disappointment, this is the place for you.

Dining out to celebrate a birthday. Visited Het Hofje again after years. They've grown considerably. It was a nice, quiet Monday. The service was smooth and friendly. We were given time to peruse the menu and make a selection. The drinks we'd already ordered were nice and warm. One area for improvement was the ginger tea. A slice of orange had been placed on the rim of the tea glass. I would have preferred that. There was also a large block of ginger in the glass, but thinly sliced ​​ginger imparts more flavor than a large piece and is therefore more appetizing.

We weren't able to review the food. We initially waited a while in the hall to be seated. After a while, a man and woman joined the line behind us. The employee approached us and asked if we had a reservation. We didn't, as we weren't from Haarlem. It was a nice day trip. The man behind me immediately replied, "I do." The employee then completely ignored us and continued with the man standing BEHIND us. We were left in the cold. Very antisocial behavior. Absolutely not hospitable. This is no way to treat people. It looked nice inside, but the completely unhospitable behavior overshadowed that.

Busy shop with atmosphere and passion. Despite the crowd, we were helped quickly and the food was delicious.

This afternoon, around 4:00 PM, we wanted something to drink and eat. Normally, we have good experiences. This time, things were a little different. There were hardly any customers. We chose something from the menu, and then waited for someone to take our order. The two waitresses were chatting with a few other customers and showed no interest in us at all. When, after more than 10 minutes, no one came to us, we left. The waitresses wished us a nice day without batting an eyelid. I understand that you have to wait a bit longer when it's busy, but in this case, it wasn't necessary.

Cozy place. We only had coffee, but both the Americo and decaf cappuccino were delicious. Next time, I'd like the cappuccino a bit warmer. It wasn't really warm. Nice to see they make their own fresh cakes. They look delicious.

This afternoon I went to lunch. After pouring my drink, I noticed there was still lipstick on the glass. Luckily, I got a clean glass, but I didn't have any drink left in it. I ended up paying €3.85 for an empty glass. The panini with cheese was less than perfect, the cheese wasn't melted properly, and the sandwich was still cold. The service was more focused on themselves. I won't be back anytime soon.

Wonderful cozy place great food!

We booked a high tea for two. Upon arrival, the cups were cracked and dented. The plates were dented, and the cup wasn't clean inside. There was still tea residue all over the place. The tea was lukewarm; the cup of soup came with a teaspoon. The savory dishes consisted of salmon and tuna. Half of the tuna was on a roll that could have come straight from the supermarket. The tuna was missing. There were quiches with undercooked pastry. The salmon appetizer that came with it had hard edges and was dried out. As an alternative, an egg salad sandwich was served, which had been improved with a whole mountain of pickles. The sweet treat we then requested consisted of scones, cheesecake, brownies, and some other indeterminate item. It had all been thrown onto a plate. The scones were upside down with a dollop of cream and some jam; we left them there and said goodbye to this awful moment.

We had a delicious high tea. It was just so busy and noisy on Saturday!

Unfortunately, I was forced to leave a less than stellar review. I made a reservation for six people, one of whom was disabled, but the first thing we noticed was how inaccessible the restrooms were (even though we specifically requested this). The high tea was also below expectations; the cups of tea weren't even on the table upon arrival. We then waited 45 minutes for the first course to arrive. The staff were very friendly but clearly inexperienced. The atmosphere was unpleasant because it was very cold inside, and despite us reporting this several times, nothing was done about it. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.

A beautiful courtyard or just peek around the corner. A nice addition to a walk through beautiful Haarlem.

We tried the pulled chicken sandwich and their most famous, highly rated egg and avocado sandwich. Both sandwiches were very good. If you like spicy food, I would especially recommend the pulled chicken. The other sandwich had a lighter flavor but was still quite filling. The coffee was good, and the cookie served on the side was also tasty. The only downside was that the menu was not available in English. If you’re in the area, I would definitely recommend stopping by.

Wonderful place to have lunch without any worries

The interior has fallen into disrepair, and hygiene is abysmal. The walls are stained and could use a fresh coat of paint. The (wooden) floors could use a scrub and a good cleaning. Dirty corners and skirting boards; we even thought we spotted some mice. I slipped on food scraps on the floor. What used to be a pleasant establishment is now a chaotic place with many problems. Ugh.

I went there on a quiet Wednesday afternoon. There were two very attentive and friendly women. Great coffee!!! I'll definitely be back, highly recommended.

The food and the atmosphere are nice, but the service is slow and rude. Moreover, the order of arrival is not respected. It's a shame, because it could have been a much better experience.

We went for breakfast, which included one slice of ham for two people and a salad with browned edges. For €17-18 per person, you'd expect more. We were seated in the left-hand section, where the outside door was frequently left open by the staff (and other guests). After trying to close the door ourselves five times and asking the staff twice to close it, we finally gave up. The cake from the table next to us looked delicious, though. Nice interior. A missed opportunity, and we won't be back.

The food was absolutely delicious! We enjoyed it, and it arrived on time. However, there was one small drawback that disappointed us… One of us is a vegetarian; she strictly doesn't eat meat. She ordered a cheese panini. After finishing 3/4 of it, she suddenly tasted ham… 👎 See the photo for proof. They probably accidentally made a ham and cheese panini, then saw it was just cheese and removed the ham. That was very unprofessional. It's a shame it happened this way, because otherwise, we were very enthusiastic!

What a terrible place. You reserve a high tea for six people during the Christmas market in October, and they cancel the reservation a day before, all in a joking manner. It's a very poor move. Reason being, because of the Christmas market. You already knew that in October, didn't you? Then you're sitting there a day in advance, everything arranged... Ridiculous. Just tell that to the person you're buying the gift for.

We had a delicious lunch at Hofjeshof. Despite the crowds at the Christmas market, the service was excellent. Highly recommended!

Our high tea was canceled a day in advance because it was too busy due to the Christmas market. We were supposed to have lunch? The high tea was reserved for my mother's 65th birthday because she loves high tea so much. The gentleman on the phone told me not to make a big deal about it. And it's called "Hofje zonder zorgen" (Worry-Free Courtyard).

What a lovely space this has become. We enjoyed a delicious lunch. Highly recommended.

We ordered a high tea to take home. Upon pickup, the gift voucher turned out to be insufficient. With great help from the staff, we were able to arrange everything. Everything was neatly prepared, with instructions included. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you very much. Definitely recommended.

Lovely, modern, stylish rooms. We had high tea. I thought it was a meager amount, but it was delicious. We had planned on three courses, and one course turned out to be a glass of soup. Unfortunately, the soup was in a glass with a large crack in it, which wasn't visible until I was halfway through. It's also a shame that they have such beautiful plates, but then serve the food on plates with broken rims. This detracts from the experience. I wouldn't have high tea there again, but I would love to try the lunch sandwiches the other guests made. They looked delicious too.

We had high tea there. It was truly delicious. We sat in the back room overlooking the courtyard, highly recommended.

We went here for the first time on November 8th and had a wonderful time. The food was amazing, but the service surpassed everything. The staff were always on their feet and still treated everyone kindly, even taking a moment to give extra attention. Thank you, we'll definitely be back.

First time having High Tea, highly recommended. They always explained what to expect, and it was plenty for two people. No waste. The only thing we didn't get was a glass of Prosecco. Otherwise, the service was very friendly.

It was delicious. Friendly people and a nice atmosphere. You can make your own tea. And if you can't finish it, you can take it with you. Atmosphere obviously nice in the hustling center of Haarlem. Unfortunately, the wait staff have not been trained, have no idea where tables are positioned & ignore you when you try to get some attention (ordering/paying). Super disappointed with the eggs florentine (without salmon) came out with salmon on it, after informing the staff, they took it away and were back within 2 minutes with the florentine without salmon, which had aromas of fish smell still on it - had to swap dishes with my partner as the food took so long to come out it just wasn’t worth the hassle to wait for it to be properly made again as ordered. TLDR - they’re too busy for their own good unfortunately, focus on a system and training.

We had a bite to eat here during our day trip to Haarlem. It wasn't very busy, so the staff came quickly and were very friendly. The sandwiches and pastries we ordered were delicious. The cappuccino was tasty but unfortunately lukewarm. The prices were very reasonable!

Delicious sandwiches. The carrot cake had a wonderfully moist texture. The service could have done with better eye contact instead of focusing on the tables. Another drawback is that you have to queue to pay the bill, and it's not brought to your table.

If you appreciate terrible service, this is the place to be! The bartender was more occupied with her colleagues in the kitchen than helping out on the patio. They could have easily sold us three extra drinks in 20 minutes, and there were only two of us. Disgruntled, we went to the neighbors afterward.

Disappointing lunch. A salad with brown edges and a red soup with a bit of paprika in it. A stark contrast to the quality of the pies.

This doesn't live up to its name. Yesterday, I sat on the terrace for 20 minutes. It wasn't particularly busy, but it was fairly full. The staff walked by several times, made eye contact, but nothing else happened. No greeting, no request to wait, no one to take an order. I have no idea what the staff was doing, but as the owner, I would be quite concerned about this otherwise pleasant-looking courtyard.

This message is for the owner: you should (or even ‘have to!’) pay big attention to your service and kitchen. Rude unfriendly staff and tasteless food, what’s wrong with you!??

Very pleasant outdoor terrace. Unfortunately, the order took a very long time. The menu descriptions are also too flowery: eggs florentines with avocado and spinach salad, or rather, a little avocado spread and some spinach leaves.

When we entered there was actually no place, but after waiting for 5 minutes we were able to sit down. The tosti and the pulled chicken sandwiches were very tasty. We also did not have to wait long for the food despite the fact that it was full. A place to come back.

a bit of a weird take on eggs benedict.. not bad by any means but i wouldn't call it eggs benedict 🤷🏼‍♀️ the poached eggs were a bit weird as well, they consistency was more like hard boiled and the other one didnt even have a yolk :( bacon was super crispy though! and friendly service😇

Literally the most meager high tea I have ever had. The only thing that is not in the picture is a small soup in advance, which was also almost cold. The tea water was also constantly lukewarm. The fresh tea we got did not even soak into the water. I thought the lady serving came across as unfriendly. When one of my friends asked for an extra glass of prosecco she replied with an attitude "I was just standing here and then nobody wanted it" I was shocked. I thought to myself girl, you really don't say something like that out loud. I didn't say anything at the time, it was a birthday and we enjoyed the coziness but I really don't need to go here again. And I don't think the rest of our group either.

I was in Haarlem every week for work for 2 months. This was my regular address for a cup of cappucino oat milk. Pleasant staff, nice coffee, nice relaxing music and a quiet place to relax

Service too slow. Things went wrong at the entrance. We had to wait 5 minutes until we were assigned a table, while there were only 3 tables available (so it wasn't too busy, but the efficiency/alertness of the staff was not :( Cake was too dry/not fresh? And the coffee didn't taste good either. The whole experience/atmosphere was: once but never again.

The place without worries - found! I had the 'Tuna Melt'; a homemade tuna salad on toast, warm from the oven (half has already been eaten in the photo - apologies). Super tasty and just worth it - so enough for when you're hungry. Coffee also great; Americano and Cortado. The weather was wet and cold, but warm and comfortable inside, with a view of the medieval courtyard.

Had lunch and ordered red lentil soup. Found a piece of plastic in the soup. Didn't have to pay for the soup but the need to order something else disappeared.

Just had a High Tea, nothing good to say about it, everything was old and had just been pulled out of the freezer as if it had been made days in advance, then we both get terrible stomach complaints and then you walk to the staff for an explanation and they completely contradict you. and they are shouting at you they want to touch you and take you to a table rule 1 you don't just touch people if you don't know them then the gentleman rages even louder and shouts I'M STILL LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION FOR YOU a little hospitality goes a long way I never come here searching more back

We had a high tea. The food we got was tasty but nothing special. Too bad you don't get clotted cream/jam with the scones. Instead, there is a thin layer of mascarpone with jam on top. We were very disappointed with the service. I had asked in advance for 1 vegetarian high tea and reported this again upon arrival, but then we received all high teas with meat. In addition, we had planned the high tea at 3:00 PM. However, one person was slightly delayed (ultimately 5 minutes), but at 3:02 PM a waiter arrived to explain everything to us and then asked when the last person is coming 'because the food will arrive in 2 minutes, even if that person is still there. is not'. Of course I understand that it is annoying when guests are late, but this was very fast...

Long waiting time. They came 3 times saying that they run out of the desserts we ordered. One of our dessert had a really bad presentation. It was brought broken into pieces with a weird argument that the taste was the same even if it looked like other people’s leftovers. They forgot to add the tea to one of our orders. They brought only oath milk without the tea 🤣.

nice place, apple pie tasty but service was slow. not busy, but took a long time. coffee in cold cup, scone didn't come through. 2-person waiting staff were having lunch themselves. what a shame. I won't come back here again. plenty of other nice places. I normally don't bother, but this really had to be done.

Bustling, popular, brunch/lunch/high tea restaurant off a cute square in Haarlem. We had the high tea which was really lovely. The food is fresh and delicious and the restaurant itself is lovely inside. It get's really busy so the service isn't always the quickest, but if you're not in a rush then that's not a problem, sit back and enjoy. Book in advance as it does get busy!

Quiche was tasty, tarts are also tasty. Just waiting almost 40 minutes for the order to arrive is a bit too much. Coffee had also become lukewarm. Saw it on the bar for 10 minutes.

The coke wasn't cold, they didn't have ice cubes, my glass was dirty, the cappucino wasn't tasty, the plate was dirty. Food took a long time, asked where it was. It looked like a container of curry had fallen into the egg salad. Service was very poor.
