We had ijwit Amsterdam brewery and funky falcon pale ale beers with the recommendation of the waiter and we loved these beers especially ijwit is something else, cheers.

A place with a cool atmosphere, great beers, and wonderful traditional snacks.

Service is not good for tourists. When you buy coffee there and a cake from another place, the worker in front of all the other visitors can forbid you from eating your food in a very impolite manner. It feels like you did something wrong to them but it's typical in city centers everywhere. That’s totally insane. You must be loyal to all customers. I think you should revisit that policy. 1/5

Great if you can get a table on the terasse, get the mixed plate of croquettes and cheese with a nice drink and it is a true vibe.

During our 4-day stay in Amsterdam, we visited this place every evening. Fabulous atmosphere, a great variety of options, and very friendly and helpful staff. As a woman, I felt very safe there, which made the experience even better. My husband turned out to be the biggest fan of Affligem beer! 🍺 Definitely a must-visit place in Amsterdam!

Dropped in for a beer twice whilst in town. Lovely interior on the"thin" post, didn't go in the other part. Seemingly very friendly staff especially the guy who recognised us the second time even though he must have served hundreds of people between the two visits. 5 stars on the little evidence we had. Would return and try food another time.

A classic Amsterdam brown café that’s perfect for a quick stop. I popped in for a half pint, and it was exactly what I was looking for—good beer, a relaxed atmosphere, and a mix of locals and visitors enjoying the afternoon. The historic interior gives it plenty of character, while the open front makes it easy to sit back and soak in the energy of the city.

I didn't like a certain situation. I was at a table on the sidewalk. My daughter had gone to buy potatoes and saw me there. She just stopped to talk to me, standing there with her potatoes, on her way to the hotel. The employee was a bit rude, saying that she had to go eat her potatoes on the other side of the street! Totally absurd! She was standing on the sidewalk and obviously wasn't going to sit at my table and eat the food there.

We have seen this place randomly while we were walking around. We drunk Chardonnay white wine and it was really good. The atmosphere is night, they are open till 1 am even the weekdays

Very nice café, very clean, bright and welcoming. We sat at the bar and the staff were without exception really, really friendly and attentive. Good selection of beer on tap. It was a rainy Saturday afternoon and although the place was pretty busy, it didn't feel crowded or chaotic and people had time for us. Recommended.

Rude to Americans/tourists. My friend and I were enjoying beers and meatballs when the server told us we need to cash out and leave because our table was “reserved”. There were many other guests but we were the only ones told to leave. Would not recommend spending your money here as there is a clear bias to tourists.

My first stop when I visit Amsterdam. They look after their beer and bottles of Spirits /Liquors properly, everything is spotlessly clean and I suspect their beer lines are the same which is why their beer tastes so good. They have a huge selection of beers and spirits, well large enough for my needs, they even have a menu explaining the different drinks with a short paragraph on the drink. My first drink is normally a large Amstel from the taps, refreshing and tasty, tastes like more, dangerous stuff. The ambience is exactly what a good pub should be, people chatting and having a laugh. I normally stay in the bar area where you can order food but typically this area is for the drinkers, a separate area is where you can have a sit down meal, very convenient. It is easy to start or join a conversation and I found the clientele friendly, looking forward to my next visit.

I have never had such a bad experience: the bartenders are so unbelievably rude. One literally pretended he was deaf to not answer our question. I would NEVER go to this establishment. What an embarrassment.

Very centrally located. A typical tavern, a very cozy café. Here you can sample typical Dutch beers and local dishes. We tried the biterballem, which are like our meatballs but without sauce. 👍

I haven't had the chance to explore the inside of this place yet, but I must say the exterior is a real showstopper. I've rarely seen a bow tie of such size, and honestly, it almost deserves a standing ovation for its construction. So, I'm leaving this as a preliminary note before I go sit down and try the drinks. But just to say: from the outside, this bar is a real eye-catcher, and that's probably the best review I could give it without having even set foot inside.

Great atmosphere. The brown wood, old watering hole decor and attentive and experienced bartenders make this place a must stop, especially for those who find themselves shopping in the Kalverstraat area and need relief from the peaceful mob. The energy was perfect. 4 fam members, 4 beers and a few bitterbollen and cheese sticks. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

Café Hoppe is simply perfect: an absolute Amsterdam classic that fully lives up to its reputation. We stopped by in the middle of a hectic day, and it was the ideal place to warm up, relax, and escape the chaos. We loved all the beers we tried, and we also had the typical Dutch jenever, which was such a fun and delicious addition. The bitterballen were excellent, perfectly crispy and exactly what you hope for with a cold drink. The iconic sand on the floor gave it that old-school, authentic feel, and despite being right in the middle of the city, it felt cozy and calm (we went at midday). The atmosphere is warm, charming, and genuinely local. Service was super friendly, welcoming, and fast, which made the whole experience even better.

This was our go-to place for beer during our 3 days in Amsterdam. The Bitterballen is really delicious. Ijwit is a great option for those who like light beers. The atmosphere is very nice, and it's a place mostly preferred by locals. We met lots of people. They also have heaters outside, which is great; sitting outside and breathing in the city air is really nice in the winter months. It became our favorite place in Amsterdam :)

Friendly bartenders, excellent beer and jenever choices, food was awesome (we had the grilled sausage and smoked salmon sandwich), it was warm on a rainy late November day….and did I mention the beer?

Traditional, cosy, inviting, Hoppe has everything you want in a pub. The old barrels, dark wood and massive paintings are really atmospheric, the beer is excellent, it's mainly full of locals which adds to the atmosphere. The staff are friendly, welcoming and attentive although service can be slow when it's busy. We have been coming to Hoppe annually for the last 7 years, it's the first place we go when we arrive in the city, absolutely love it here. We've spent many happy hours in Hoppe on rainy November evenings and look forward to many more.

Bitterballen and Amstel, what more do you need on a visit to the Dam ? Our favourite bar in the Dam ,one of the oldest and not lost its charm at all. No music , history on every wall , great staff and you know its a proper bar with sand on the floor ! Will always be a port of call for us

We came to this great brown bar pretty late in the evening, and we enjoyed our time in it - the whole bar/pub ambiance is excellent, and the sand on the floors just adds to it!

Delicious Hoppe Vieux with cola, thoroughly enjoyed. My husband enjoyed his draft beer. We both enjoyed the excellent bitterballen (bitterballen), Amsterdam onions, and platters.

Friendly staff, left side was closing at 8:30pm on a weeknight and asked if I get food. They said go to the right side entrance bc the pub side was open late. No hot food after 8:30pm so I had a beer and some cheese and olives. I was hoping for bitterballen but the fryer was off on a Sunday night. Cosy atmosphere, quiet pub. Staff were friendly but had to go to the bar to ask for food and pay. Good snack and beer 🍻

My niece who lives in Amsterdam recommend Hoppe. Took a bit of time to get served but our bartender Dirk turned out to be super friendly. Beer was delish. Great example of a brown bar. It surely gets crowded in busier times, but we got a spot at the bar inside.
