I would like to file a complaint about my recent visit to IJs van Oost. My experience was unfortunately very disappointing and I hope you will take this seriously. First of all, the hygiene was very poor. My ice cream did not taste fresh, and within a few hours of consumption I started to feel sick to my stomach. I suspect food poisoning, which is of course very worrying. To make matters worse, I also found a blond hair in my ice cream, which was downright unappetizing. In addition, the service was disappointing. There were two Dutch girls behind the counter who were mainly busy with each other and hardly paid any attention to the customers. They kept talking while I was waiting to be helped. When I finally got my ice cream, the portion was scandalously small for the price I paid for it, literally a small scoop. In short, poor hygiene, unfriendly and disinterested service, a portion that was too small and possible food poisoning. I am extremely disappointed about this and absolutely want to bring this to your attention.

Great ice and lovely service in Oost! The store is right on the lively Javastraat. It is a lovely neighborhood with a lot of stores, cafes and restaurants. I was there on sunny Sunday afternoon. I did not have to wait for too long. The variety of ice creams is great. They have around 20 different. I had two scoops - Melon and Mokka, really nice! The staff is really kind and welcoming. I paid 4€ which is a great deal for Amsterdam standards. The store itself could be a bit cleaner, it was a busy day for sure but making tidying up a bit and giving some spots a wipe would make it feel a lot greater. There were also some streaks on the counter where the ice cream is served. Again, surely a busy day and things get out of sight whilst serving so many customers. The ice cream itself could also be presented a bit more appealing. It tastes great but the presentation does not match it. It would also be nice to have wooden or paper-based spoons instead of the plastic ones on the counter which also everyone grabs into. Just a minor change. Surely more costly, but I would also pay more for it. The stamp card is a nice way to keep customers coming. For every visit you get one stamp and after 10 stamps one scoop is free! All in all, can recommend.

The cute shop girl made a scoops like a mountain. One scoop is very big. The whipped cream is of excellent quality. I ordered vanilla, mocha, and tiramisu. The tiramisu had a rich flavor and paired perfectly with the whipped cream. Cheers!

Hands down the best ice cream in Amsterdam. Lots of choice, changing flavors, shakes and everything is very good!

What a surprise this deliciously flavorful creamy ice cream! Hazelnut ice cream full of real hazelnuts and 🍊 ice cream with delicious pieces of orange peel, yammie yammie, an absolute must. Quiet, friendly atmosphere and sit outside and enjoy the quality ice cream and the pleasant atmosphere of the Java “boulevard” we will definitely come back here, the savings card will be full soon 😉

A lovely ice cream shop which on a good day like today commanded lines that snaked quite far. Many classic and bolder flavours. I had the stroopwafel and the forest fruits and chocolate, which were delicious. Definitely recommended.

3 balls in a bowl and a cone, €10 in total, nice portions, but I just missed that “oemf”. Definitely doesn't melt quickly. Nicely decorated place, but not much seating, especially on such a beautiful sunny day. There were no napkins (not even for your cone). Salty Carmel was a bit on the salty side.

Some of the best ice cream Ive ever tried, it feels like its made of fresh and very good quality products. Their pistaccio is top tier, zero signs of food coloring nor artificial flavours. They are miles ahead the average ice cream shop in that sense. And always a very friendly service. One of those places that usually has a small line of locals, and its for a good reason.

Ice cream is fantastic, the service (especially on weekends) very slow causing a huge queue. Tip, if it is very busy, do not let people taste extensive samples......

Ice cream is tasty, but if you hang up an allergen card, it has to be correct. If you hang up a sign stating that peanut butter contains nuts and that you do not even mention the peanut allergen, you do not understand that a peanut is not a nut but a legume and that peanut must therefore also be listed separately. My daughter with a peanut allergy no longer trusted the rest and just left.

Tastiest ice cream in your Javastraat!!

Just ate ice cream and we both now have a stomach ache after eating the same ice cream. Thanks again for the stomach ache. The ice cream is also made of powder, there are really no pieces in it......this will definitely be the last time. Staff isn't the smartest either

Friendly service and delicious ice cream!

Delicious gelato, served at the right temperature. I had hazelnut (with real hazelnut pieces in it) and pistachio (soft, real pistachio flavor).

I had Forest berry chocolate ice cream, which was really not good tasting. My friends had other flavors which were really good.

Best ice cream in the Netherlands! Delicious flavors, large scoops (especially when the owner is scooping), delicious fresh whipped cream and always leave with a smile. The only downside for me is that my personal favorite flavors are not always available (such as cake batter and snickers), but there is plenty of other choice.

This must have been one of the best Yoghurt Mango milkshakes I’ve had in a long time. I just can’t shut up about it. This is the perfect place to get some icecream. The long queue shows how good this actually is. It is amazing and totally worth it.

De citroentaart-smaak is echt een aanrader!

Het ijs van deze ijssalon is niet alleen mooi om naar te kijken, maar het smaakt ook nog eens heerlijk! Het is zo romig en vol van smaak, dat het moeilijk is om te kiezen welke smaak je wilt proberen. Of je nu van klassieke smaken houdt, zoals vanille of chocolade, of liever iets avontuurlijks wilt proberen, zoals dadel, vijg of kaneel, er is voor elk wat wils. Het ijs is ook gemaakt van hoogwaardige ingrediënten, dus je kunt er zeker van zijn dat je de beste kwaliteit krijgt!

IJs van Oost is een klasse apart, want het is een ijssalon waar het echt om het ijs gaat. Dus geen touristt trap! Ook de espresso is uitstekend (probeer deze vooral ook eens met een bolletje roomijs erin!). Als je geluk hebt ontmoet je de eigenaar, je herkent hem aan zijn brede lach. Met stempels apaar je voor een gratis bol. Als je eenmaal bent geweest, ga je daar zeker voor sparen!

Heerlijke schepijsjes en sorbetijs! Je moet er even voor lopen maar het is de moeite waard. Niet heel veel smaken maar wel erg lekker.

The best! I had a scoop each of passion fruit and pistachio ice cream, and 15 minutes later I'm still marvelling at how delicious they were.
