Indian Restaurant Amsterdam in Jordaan

We just finished eating, it was absolutely delicious! We had butter chicken and samosas. 10 out of 10. We'll be back!

Incredible food and kind service! Will be back!!

Nice enough but the food tasted like a lot of it came from a packet

Harjit helped us out really well, the food was great! 👌

Delicious food. We always come here when we're in Amsterdam.

Amazing taste of the food and amazing service must visit when visiting Amsterdam

Everything was great. Just the right amount of spiciness. Very friendly service.

Great food with great atmosphere

Absolutely loved the food! So authentic, flavourful, and homelike—it genuinely felt like eating a homemade Indian meal. A must-visit if you’re craving real Indian flavours in Amsterdam - highly recommend!

As a lover of indian food i have to say that that restaurant is the best I have ever tried😍 just in looooove🙏🏾🌸 amazing❣️

Delicious food and be careful about gluten-free cooking!

Excellent food, we ordered two menus including an appetizer, a curry, a side dish, and rice and naan. Everything was great! The mango lassi was also very good.

It was really tasty and we were as a group class there with our teachers and it was there really good 10/10

This is our favourite restaurant to go to when we visit Amsterdam. The food is always delicious! Small cozy atmosphere is always nice as well!

Amazing! Best indian good in Amsterdam. Super naan and curries and best mixed grill ever, so tender!

Great little restaurant. Very authentic and delicious!

The staff are very friendly. The food was delicious, especially their Butter Chicken. It's a great place to stop after visiting the Anne Frank House. Thank you so much!

Excellent Indian food, the best I've ever had! The dishes are flavorful and perfectly balanced. A fantastic place, not to be missed!

Thank you, Harjeet ji! The food was absolutely delicious. I truly felt at home 😄

The food was really delicious, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Highly recommended.

Thank you. Delicious dinner. A hidden gem, simple and authentic. Real Indian cuisine with a very warm welcome and service.

Super nice people and great food

Delicious food and pleasant service. I recommend the Butter Chicken.

The food was very delicious and flavorful, and the service was friendly!

I am vegetarian and was looking for some good Indian comfort food after a long day of walking and visiting all the tourist spots. This place hit the spot - would recommend getting palak paneer (spicy) with garlic naan!

It's okey to be there and enjoying the moment!

Ordered from Uber Eats, and the in house delivery didn’t arrive, the store closed during my delivery, meaning I couldn’t contact anyone to inquire on my order status and order was 40€…

On this restaurant is nice experience of my life on every one food item is very tasty.

Nice place and nice food. Good service with a very interesting recomendations. We will repeat next time in Amsterdam

We had a wonderful meal and luckily got a table without a reservation. What a stroke of luck! The food and service were truly excellent, thank you so much!

Delicious food and very friendly staff. If you're looking for a good Indian restaurant, this is the place to go!

Absolutely fantastic! The food was amazing, as was the warm and welcoming service. The value for money was excellent ❤️ We will definitely be back.

The food is delicious, spicier than most Italian Indian restaurants. The portions are generous, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They also have vegetarian options. Highly recommended!

Delicious butter chicken, I highly recommend it. Very friendly and efficient service.

It was good food and a good atmosphere! Løkjøk aprroved! They had gluten free and vegetarian and it was good! Very good come here if you want good Indian food! (Plus Løkjøk has been here so you know it will be good!) :)

Best Indian restaurant in Amsterdam, tried their butter chicken with naan and mix grill, loved every bit of it.

Best Indian food in the Jordaan

This was the best butter chicken of my entire life. The peshwari naan was also amazing and they were so chill about our two (well behaved) dogs being in the restaurant with us. The restaurant is very small but absolutely worth it. Get it to go if you can't get a seat!

I visited Amsterdam from Tanzania in December 2019, just before COVID. We found this restaurant by chance when another place had a long wait, and it turned out to be the best food experience of my trip. For four days straight, I came here every evening. Even on the day of my dinner cruise, I ate here first because I couldn't resist! The Masala Prawns were absolutely to die for. The spice level was perfect, just the way I like it. Whenever anyone tells me they're visiting Amsterdam, this is the one place I always recommend. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The service was horrible. The waiter is rude and never smiles. The owner rushed through the payments and did not even ask if we anted dessert. It is loud like a typical student's restaurant, no ambience at all. Food ispatrons have been trestaurant.

Excellent dinner! The dishes were generous and of very good quality. A warm welcome from very kind owners.

The food is fantastic and the service is loving and respectful. The food is authentic.

The food and service are spectacular, we will definitely be back

Everything was delicious and the service was excellent.

A wonderful discovery. Delicious food and a warm welcome. Special mention for the butter chicken. I highly recommend it!

Very good food. Number 35, rated 4 stars for spiciness, is really hot and was a touch too hot for me.

Wonderful wonderful Indian food in the heart of Amsterdam.

e wunderbars Ässe, racy, delicious, juicy and e sympathetic service.

Shah Jahan is a wonderful family owned Indian restaurant, conveniently located in the Jordaan neighbourhood of Amsterdam. The samosas were freshly prepared, served hot, and perfectly crispy. We also tried the Prawns Puri and absolutely loved it. Having enjoyed Prawns Puri at many places before, this version stood out for its authentic, homely flavour. The lamb biryani was good, and the mushroom sabji paired perfectly with their fresh, soft naan. The owner was warm, friendly, and very hospitable, making us feel truly welcome. Overall, it was a very satisfying dining experience, and we would love to visit again the next time we are in Amsterdam.

Good Hala food little option with not spicy food but it was good in general

Nice ambiance and great food! My food was too spicy for me, so they offered to reduce spice and it was perfect.

This food was probably the best indian food i tasted so far. Super friendly staff, always a smile and great service. Ordered butter chicken and mixed grill. Both of them were on point.

Honestly, it was really good, I admit, amazing food, great atmosphere 😃😃😃

Very good, authentic Indian food and atmosphere in a very cozy neighborhood

What a wonderful evening we had here. The atmosphere in the restaurant is incredibly pleasant, and every single dish looked beautiful. We were particularly impressed by the presentation of the food. The flavors were deep and very tasty; the fine strips of fresh ginger on the curry certainly completed it perfectly. Everything was served in beautiful, traditional metal bowls. It was a fantastic evening. We will definitely be back soon for another meal.

Good food and excellent service!

A splendid evening!! Good food, amazing service and some lovely tunes while eating. It’s also in an amazing location in the heart of the Jordaan!! 10/10 will be coming back

Best food I’ve had in a while! Lovely staff, lovely food!

Nice restaurant. Far enough away from the tourist center. Very good food and excellent service in a small, charming restaurant.

The personnel was very kind and professional. My friend and I ordered butter chicken, it was super delicious. The Atmosphere inside was cozy and welcoming, everything was clean and napkins have been folded beautifully. Highly recommend :)

It was a fantastic experience, I recommend it to everyone.

The food was super good and the service was amazing food came out super quick everyone was super kind and welcoming

A very nice little Indian restaurant. The food was great, and the service was very friendly. A perfect place to escape the rain :)

Best Indian food I’ve ever had. The service is so unbelievably kind. I’d highly recommend visiting while in Amsterdam.

This was the best spontaneous discovery in a while! Delicious food, friendly and quick service. Also very cosy homely atmosphere. Just want I needed at the end of an intense trip - a homelike Indian meal. Highly recommend!

Would absolutely recommend for authentic delicious Indian food. I had the chicken jahl frezi & my partner had the mixed grill. We shared garlic cheese naan & rice. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I personally wished my dish had been spicier but it was only rated 3/5 on the heat scale. And they provided me with some spicy sauce on the side that I could add to it free of charge! We would love to return if staying longer in Amsterdam.

Delicious food and very friendly service.

Had a wonderful evening meal here, great selection of vegetarian options and absolutely delicious food.

Top spot, lovely food and service 👍🏻😁

Excellent Indian restaurant, authentic dishes and unique flavors! Perfect for those with food intolerances, as the menu includes all allergens. We'll definitely be back! Exceptional service!

Very good taste! Some of the best Indian flavors we have experienced!

Sure — you want it in the first person instead of "we/us." Here's a personal, heartfelt review: I ate at the Shah Jahan Indian Restaurant in Amsterdam and was truly impressed. The food was incredibly delicious, freshly prepared, and bursting with authentic flavors. The spices were perfectly balanced, and you can immediately tell that the food is cooked with quality and passion. I was particularly impressed by the wide selection of dishes and the authentic taste. The service was also outstanding — very friendly, attentive, and warm. I felt instantly welcome. The atmosphere in the restaurant is cozy and pleasant, perfect for a relaxing evening. For me, definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in Amsterdam. I will definitely be back and can absolutely recommend the Shah Jahan Indian Restaurant! 🍛✨

This is a wonderful restaurant quite close to Anne franks house.. The staff is very nice and helpful. The lady redid the butter chicken as it was too spicy for my son I really and sincerely appreciate it. The food was very tasty compared to the indian food we get in germany. Do order the popadums. Just one bad point was the KULFI. IT IS NOT MADE AT THE PLACE AND ATLEAST WHEN WE HAD IT WAS VERY BAD. Please dont order kulfi. The samosas were nice and standard may be reheated. The paneer butter maslaa was superb The butter chicken like I said my son just gobbled it up. The nans were fantastic as well. 4 nans+BC+PBM+SAMOSA+2MANGOLASSI+KULFI :( +POPADUMS= 69.50EUROS :O

Courteous, helpful, and very friendly staff. Wide variety of dishes to choose from. Excellent chicken tikka masala.

Great food and great price! Super nice service, very kind people :)

Excellent Indian restaurant in Amsterdam. Great selection of dishes. Friendly staff. I recommend it.

Great food, totally Indian taste…loved it.

The food was amazing, the owners very kind and welcoming and the environment familiar.

Very tasty! Every dish was spicier than you would have guessed, even the low-spice options. If you're a white boy like me, be careful with the 4-5s

Veryyyyy good food and cheap prices for Amsterdam

Everything was great, the food was very good and the service was excellent.

Delicious, authentic Indian food! Friendly hosts. We'll be back.

A very wide selection of tasty dishes, spicy and flavorful to your liking. The staff gave us an extremely warm welcome. We'll definitely be back!

One of the best Indian food around Schiphol, loved the criers (Dal makhni, khadai paneer), Great staff, highly recommended!!

The service was horrible. The waiter is rude and never smiles. The owner rushed through the payments and did not even ask if we anted dessert. It is loud like a typical student's restaurant, no ambience at all. Food is ok to fine, typical of a restaurant at this level. We were visiting from the US. Amsterdam needs proper India restaurants like London. If these reviews are to be believed I must say that very few of the patrons have been to a good Indian restaurant.

Beautiful place, excellent service. The food was delicious!

Nice and tasty Indian restaurant. I can recommend

Lovely authentic family business, extra ordinary food (Indian hot!)

Very good. The food, atmosphere, and service are excellent!

Delicious food! Since the restaurant is very small, reservations are recommended. Also, the noise level is quite high.

I love coming here! Personally, I haven't found another place in Amsterdam with better naan. Actually, you can't find anything unappetizing here.

We visited this restaurant two days ago, one of the members the (madrasi one) was very kind, welcoming, and respectful from the moment we arrived. However, the other staff member that was tall and had black hair was extremely rude and unprofessional. He spoke to us disrespectfully and even called us stupid from the Arab countries, which was completely unacceptable. Because of this behavior, our experience was ruined. I hope the restaurant takes this seriously and makes sure all customers are treated with respect.

Enjoyed the samosas, chana masala, saag paneer, roti, and garlic naan.

The food and service was amazing! We were a big group of friends and came all the way from Norway. Please try the mango lassi, it was very good. Will definetely be back!

Delicious food and truly friendly staff. Highly recommended for a quiet evening enjoying delicious, authentic food!

Omg. So amazing on every level. Came here with a reluctant friend who is not versed in Indian cuisine. And now we have a fan! The service and the FOOD was unbelievably good. You can just tell this is a greal local place.

Delicious! We had a really good time! I recommend the mango lassi to accompany the spicier dishes!

Super cute place, extremely good food, and the owners and waiters are very lovely and attentive! I can definitely recommend it.

Best Indian restaurant in Amsterdam!!!!! Real
