Sherpa Restaurant in De Weteringschans

For our last evening in Amsterdam, we were in the mood for Indian. Sherpa was highly rated according to Google reviews and was also nearby. We selected the non-vegetarian set menu for two and swapped the khasi ko masu for the chana masala. We also each had a mango lassi to drink. I recommend coming in hungry as it was a lot of food :-) What a delicious way to end our wonderful trip to Amsterdam.

Fantastic Indian food! We came here with the family on Saturday and had a great experience. The curries are incredibly flavor-rich and really impressive. Also, the portion size is much better than at other Indian restaurants these days – everyone left full and happy. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. We will absolutely be back!

Fantastic experience at Sherpa! We tried the Nepali-Tibetan menu and were blown away by the quality and authenticity of the dishes. Everything was freshly prepared and bursting with flavour. A real taste of the Himalayas right in the heart of Amsterdam. Will definitely be back!"

That’s a great experience for dinner. We love lamb curry and mango lassi. The ingredients are well-prepared. Five different tastes of curries are tried at the same time. The waiters are very kind and patient for service, thank you!

As soon as we walked in the door the kind staff made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We got paneer butter Masala and vegetable biryani and garlic naan and it was all very delicious. This was the state of my plate after I was finished enjoying the succulent dish I had ordered. Would definitely recommend

The momos and the Nepalese curry were amazing. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The naan wasnt great but still decent and the rest of the food made up for it.

Authentic and flavourful food with great vibes

We went in not even that hungry, but somehow ended up finishing everything 😂 The food was so good, and everything is halal! We ordered: * Samosa — 7/10 * Prawns Masala — 10/10 * Prawns Biryani — 1000/10 🤤 SO good! * Butter Chicken — 10/10 We were served by Salina and Saliq, who were both lovely and made the whole experience even better. Highly recommend! ⭐️

This has been my favorite restaurant since 2019! Neither the coronavirus nor the change in scenery have changed the most important thing—the quality and taste of the food! Every other place is as good as Everest! I recommend it to everyone!

Fantastic food, a welcoming ambience, and excellent customer service. A huge thank you to Salina for her wonderful smile and hospitality that made us feel right at home. It is widely recognized that Sherpa is among the oldest Nepali restaurant in Europe and this gives an added advantage to your dining experience. This is the perfect venue for trying Himalayan delicacies and discovering the beautiful canals of Amsterdam.

I had a very disappointing experience with the food. As a Nepali, I was really looking forward to the chowmein, but it was nothing like proper chowmein. It tasted more like plain instant Wai Wai noodles than freshly cooked chowmein. It had very little flavor, and they didn’t even include any sauce with my takeaway order. Instead, they added papad, which didn’t make sense. I also requested utensils with my order, but they forgot to include them. I wouldn’t recommend ordering the chowmein from this restaurant. It was very disappointing and not worth the money.

Wonderful experience and delicious food! We came for dinner after the Rijksmuseum and this spot was perfect. We’re Indian so very particular about our Indian food; everything was fresh and flavourful. We had the paneer pakoras, paneer chili, sahi paneer, butter chicken, bhindi masala, chicken biryani, raita and garlic naan. Naan were crunchy on the edges, soft in the middle and so buttery. The chicken and paneer were fresh and tender. For dessert we had khir and gulab jamun. The khir was a standout. The gulab jamun was pretty good. We sat on the patio and it was nice to people watch. The service was friendly and attentive.

I recently ordered my usual favourite item on their menu - noodles (no meat). This time, however, it tasted different. At first I thought they probably cooked it in the same pan as meat with leftover oil and that's why I get this strange after taste and smell. I called them, not to ask for a refund, but to complaint and let them know of the issue, so it doesn't happen again with me or with another. They assured me that it couldn't have been the case as they are very particular about the pans and oil they use for meat and no meat dishes. I obviously didn't believe them and hung up the phone. After 5 mins, the restaurant manager I had spoken with, called me from the kitchen, this time with the chef on speaker. They explained to me that the after-taste and smell is because of the addition of garlic in the recipe and it wasn't meat contamination. This made total sense, I don't eat garlic and that's why I was put off by the smell and the flavour and assumed the worst. I am not the one to write reviews, let alone a long one but this required telling. The due diligence the restaurant staff did in putting my meat-anxious-ahimsa mind to rest by investigating the complaint rather than just brushing it aside with empty assurances deserves a stellar review. Thank you Sherpa restaurant, you have an amazing team at the front desk and in the kitchen.

We were so hungry I forgot to take pictures of our food. It was really good! We haven't had this good of Indian food in a while. There was decent spice too. The service was great. We were able to walk in without a reservation.

Excellent food (momo dumplings?) And Madras. Given complementary poppadoms and sauces one of which was spicy, when ordering the Madras asked how spicy we wanted it in relation to the spicy poppadom sauce. Staff nice and friendly A few people in but not as many as expected for such a nice place

The Indian food was a bit different; it was my first time at a Nepalese restaurant, and while the food was very similar to Indian cuisine, the spices were somewhat different. The curries were very good, both the chicken and the goat.

Absolutely loved everything about them, Lovely interior, Food was insanely delicious, Highly recommend Jhol momos and yeti’s food. Staff was pretty friendly as well.

What a fantastic experience at this restaurant. Everything was taken care of down to the last detail, and the atmosphere was incredibly pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed the desserts. The beautifully presented round dessert with a small flower on top was a real surprise, in particular. It was not only a feast for the eyes, but it tasted delicious as well. This is definitely a place to return to. I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Tucked into the Leidseplein restaurant strip — where it's easy to end up with mediocre tourist-trap Italian or "whatever" — Sherpa is the real deal. Genuinely good Nepalese, Tibetan, and Indian food, presented with care and authenticity instead of the watered-down versions you often get in this part of town. I had the Sherpa Thali, and it's a beautiful way to eat: a big brass plate ringed by little pedestal bowls — lamb curry, chicken curry, a chunky mixed-vegetable curry, dal, rice, raita, and warm naan, with chutneys and pickle on the side. You graze across all of it, building each bite yourself. Generous, flavorful, and a proper sampler of what the kitchen does well. If you're in the area and want food that actually means something, skip the obvious spots and come here. Highly recommended.

Top notch place for a fantastic meal just off Leidseplein. Good selection of vegetarian options and a very decent drop of wine too. Relatively spacious, while still feeling intimate. Oh, and service was spot on. Good job team. Would definitely recommend!

There were four of us, we ordered 3 meat dishes and one vegetarian dish. The place is relaxed, the service is friendly and pleasant, and the food is delicious. You can order the food at different levels of spiciness. Don't miss the naan, it's really delicious. A worthwhile place.

THIS is how you run a restaurant. Not only was the food formidable, each of the staff members were so kind and helpful! Fast service, but there was no pressure to rush. After bad experience in other places in Amsterdam, it was an absolute pleasure to have found this restaurant. Definately worth a return!

Great food with wide selection of Indian/Nepalese dishes. A lot of vegan/vegetarian options. Attentive service. Good prices. Most dishes can come with different levels of spicy (the waiter asked us for every dish we ordered) - very important in an Indian restaurant... :) Only thing is that for some unclear reason they don't offer the option of a cappuccino with milk substitute, e.g. oat/almond/soya milk. That was a bit of a surprise for me since almost all restaurants nowadays offer that option and also since they did have many vegan options in the menu... If you're oriented (and justly so) towards vegan crowds why not walk the extra mile and let them also have a cup of cappuccino...?

We had high expectations given the reviews we read, but were not very happy in the end. Positive: the naan is very good, and the sauces for the main dishes were flavorful and not too oily. Dishes were served hot. The interior is pleasant if not superb, and the bathrooms are quite clean. Cons: appetizers (chicken, lamb) were dry. Daal (chickpea) main dish was really dry (canned chickpeas?), really not worth 20 EUR. Service was quite slow (appetizers took about 30 minutes after ordering, main course one hour) and forgetful, had to remind the waiters to bring things several times. On the whole, we were disappointed. If you're in the neighborhood, it's an ok option, but we did not find it representative of 4.7 stars. We will not return.

We were in Amsterdam looking for a good Indian restaurant and found exactly what we were looking for. The food was fantastic; it was excellent. The service was also good: pleasantly quiet, unobtrusive, yet very friendly.

Very cozy restaurant, very friendly service, and above all, fantastically delicious food. The children were a bit wary, but they are now completely won over by this spicy cuisine.

From England. Went here today got the kahari and madras and it did not disappoint! Chicken literally fell apart the whole meal was unreal, so much of it as well, took it home in a doggy bag!

Absolutely excellent. The service was kind and welcoming, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. It felt like a truly traditional Indian experience. We ordered appetizers and one main dish each, and paid €35 per person including drinks.

We got a table at short notice without a reservation. From the outside, it's a very unassuming restaurant, but inside it's very nice and cozy. We all ordered different dishes, and each one was absolutely delicious. The service was also excellent. There was absolutely nothing to complain about.

Excellent restaurant; the ravioli are generous and delicious. The curry is perfectly spicy. There's also something for those unfamiliar with chili peppers, like my wife. The service is impeccable. I highly recommend it; it makes a real difference in this beautiful city of Amsterdam, which is unfortunately full of tourist traps.

Highly recommended, a lovely meal together in the cozy restaurant, which is divided into two sections, with one side seeming a bit quieter. The acoustics are a bit hollow, but the service and food more than make up for it - Chicken wings are 100% highly recommended! TOP!

We had the non veg set menu for 4 people, it was amazing!!! They ask if we want to refill the curries, we said yes they refilled the full bowl of curries!!! We ate so much and we're all very food!!! Amazing service and food and cocktail, highly recommended!
