I recently spent a week in Amsterdam and the Okonomiyaki (Butatama Osaka) was one of my favorite bites from the whole trip. Try it!

Some of the best gyoza I've ever had. I tried the most popular variation on the okonomiyaki (Japanese Vegeta pancake), which included bacon and cheese. It was delicious. The edges were crispy and caramelized and the center was almost spongy. The proprietor explained that he puts the bacon on top rather than inside to achieve the crispiness.

Highly recommended! Everything was delicious and perfectly seasoned. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The owner is also super friendly and explains everything very well. Simply fantastic! 👌🏽

The place has a great atmosphere, the food is delicious, and the chef is simply brilliant!

Very nice restaurant, excellent food from the appetizers to the crepes dessert. Service more than excellent, very kind and fast! We took one crepes to share in two and he served 2 glasses of umeshu instead of 1 without letting us pay for 2. Very good price for 2 appetizers, 2 Hokonomiaki, 1 dessert, 2 beers and 2 umeshu.

Stopped for takeout mochi. Mochi fine, owner's attitude not so much. Would not go back.

It is - like others mentioned - a one man show. If you are in a rush, you'll be disappointed. If you have the time, it's well worth the wait. I had the hiroshima-style okonomiyaki and it was delicious. Let it cool down for 5 minutes so you can cut and eat it more easily.

A great little restaurant. It's run by a wonderful man who serves, cooks, and serves food exceptionally well. He's cheerful and very talkative. The food is delicious, even gluten-free, freshly prepared to your liking. You have to be a little patient; everything takes a little longer, but the wait is pleasant. I highly recommend it. And congratulations to the chef!

Some of the best takoyaki and okonomiyaki my husband and I have every had! This is a one man show, the owner does everything which makes it all the more impressive. We sat outside and had a great time.

We had the pork gyoza first. The best I've ever had! The okonomiyaki was absolutely amazing. I don't think I've ever eaten anything more delicious 🙌🏼 Highly recommended!

This tiny little restaurant is definitely the most authentic Japanese restaurant outside of Japan I've ever seen. If you want to indulge your palate with Japanese food, this is the place for you. The owner will be happy to give you detailed advice. He himself is also an authentic Japanese, a nice older gentleman. He's considering emigrating next year, so visit the restaurant now before it closes! I had the Japanese pancake and felt like my grandpa was cooking for me.

Last sunday we visited the Osakasan restaurant. They are specialised in Japanese Okonomiyaki. It is very hard to find a restaurant who makes this Japanese "pancake" in Europe and I was very happy to find it in Amsterdam (through Google). The restaurant looks simple basic in style, but we came there for the food, not the looks :-) And the food was great! They have 3 styles of Okonimiyaki and various toppings. The chef is very friendly and not afraid to have a chat with you. He's got great stories and gives a lot of info about the various styles and history of the food. We had Okonomiyaki in Osaka a few years ago and this is the real thing! Just like we had in Japan! It tasted amazing and we certainly will go back next time we go to Amsterdam! They also have very tasty starters and deserts. Very recommended! Unique Japanese food which you find nowhere else!

Delicious okonomiyaki! The owner was super friendly and very proud of his restaurant and the food he serves. It's hard to come by an okonomiyaki restaurant in Western Europe so I was happy to finally be able to try it out. They have Osaka, Hiroshima and even Kobe style okonomiyaki! Many toppings to choose from. I had the butatama Osaka one and it was so delicious, I can see why it's called comfort food in Japan 😊 You can take a seat outside to people watch during your meal, or sit inside. I'll definitely come back here when I visit Amsterdam again!

Food was good but 45min-1h waiting which is not acceptable. Okonomiyaki is small, for almost 20€ I was expecting at least 20-30% bigger.

Finally a decent okonomiyaki in Amsterdam. Started with a takoyaki which was amazing, followed by a great Hiroshima style okonomiyaki. Definitely coming back for more

Very happy that I can eat these delicious Japanese pancakes in my own part of the city (West/Jordaan). Both for lunch and dinner! Funny mini-restaurant, nice owner who likes to talk about food, about Japan, about China, about Hong Kong (his birthplace). A fun and above all tasty experience!

It's nice that there is a restaurant like Osakasan that serves okonomiyaki, even in different varieties. Toppings can be added as desired. Our choices, such as Hiroshima with Champions and Osaka with Champions, tasted excellent. The owner was very friendly and communicative. We do not recognize ourselves at all in the negativity from previous reviews. With our many years of experience with okonomiyaki in Japan, we think Osakasan is a must.

I was craving okonomiyaki and takoyaki for a while and I discovered this place in Amsterdam. I went there on a Saturday morning for lunch and I am very happy I did it! Unhygienic (including the owner)... dead mice that have been provisionally hidden behind cardboard plates... owner rude and charges royal prices for bad and spoiled chicken, which are therefore left uncovered next to the plate all day... I have already had food poisoning twice had the chicken burger...please people...do NOT go here...wonder it's still open?!?!

Absolutely delicious Japanese pancakes in a cozy space!

The staff was very nice and the food was tasty. We didn't fully understand the menu, but it was explained to us well. We are vegetarian and there are plenty of options. It's really worth eating here.

Okonomiyaki is such a treat, and finding an authentic place in Amsterdam was so cool! The chef was very friendly and our food was piping hot and just as good as we had in Hiroshima itself. Eat this, you won’t regret it.

Food is interesting. I had Japanese pancakes and they were similar quality the one I ate in Osaka. They have a Japanese chief. Athmoshere is not special, very cold. I will advice to put some Japanese music , some Japanese decor and make it more cosy . Service was not the best. Girl needs a better skills for ordering & relationships with a client. Pricing is ok based on NL prices.

I was close the neighborhood of Jordaan (near the Anne Frank's house) and I found this site, specialized in okonomiyakis. You can choose between several flavors (butatama, seafood, ...) and bases (Osaka, Hiroshima, ...). The chef is very friendly and explains you the different dishes. The food was delicious, so I visited the place several times during my visit to Amsterdam. You can also taste some Japanese drinks as Japanese beer or Japanese vodka.

We ordered take away but the attitude and the service was very bad. Almost like blaming us we shouldn’t order take away. Maybe the attitude came from the judgement of who the customers are.

My personal highlight of the Amsterdam vacation. Delicious japanese dishes that are rarely seen at this quality in europe. You have to wait quite a long time, but it is more than worth it. I'm happy that I found this gem of a restaurant.

Found this place by chance while wandering around the Jordaan neighbourhood, excellent lunch and super friendly owner. We had some gyoza, pictured, both beef and pork (both delicious) and a hamburger that melted in your mouth.

We went there with my family. The service was a bit long, but I can assure you that it was absolutely worth it ! The food is delicious, and the owner is very nice and attentive :)

Very tasty food and super nice cook/chef/waiter. Communication in English was problem-free. We ate Japanese pancakes for the first time and loved them. Very large and rich portion. The preparation seems quite complex and takes a while, so if you're really hungry, just order a starter in advance. We'd love to come back next time we're in Amsterdam.

I had an amazing experience dining with my mother at Osakasan. The location, service, food, and atmosphere were all amazing. Our chef/server talked with us for a bit, explaining the dishes and expanding on how he came to work here. I would 100% come back to Osakasan with more of my family.

Ate here in 2022 when this place was still called Japanese Pancake World and my review was removed for some reason. From recent reviews it sounds like the owner is still the same, but they have changed the name. Recent reviews sound like some improvements have been made but I wont be back after the previous experience detailed below. I was really excited to try this place out, after seeing all the good reviews and photos. We waited an hour for our food (but we already knew a wait was to be expected), but we didn't expect it to take quite so long when we were the only customers. Eventually the food arrived and the okonomiyaki was paper thin, even though i had ordered one with three extra toppings. In the end we were also overcharged as well, and forced to pay cash only which was very inconvenient.

You can definitely eat the best okonomiyaki in the Netherlands here. Even though we are not fans of Amsterdam, we drive here specifically. In addition, the host and cook are extremely friendly.

we just so happened to pass by this restaurant when we were walking around and I'm very glad we decided to eat there! it was our first time trying okonomiyaki, they had a fantastic balance of savory and sweet flavors, the gyoza were delicious as well. the staff was also extremely friendly, they explained everything for us- delightful service and very fast! we'll definitely come back, highly recommend! :D

Super nice place!!! We were actually looking for the sweet fluffy japanese pancakes and got to this restaurant by accident, but it was the best experience we could have wished for!! The Man made us the best Japanese Pancakes I have ever had! We had warm green tea and a Miso Soup as well, and left the place with total satisfaction and perfect fullness. The owner is both the cook and the waiter in the restaurant, and handles all hungry costumers with great patience, care and speed. Everything we had tasted amazing, Thank you for having us!! <3

Great, straightforward Japanese savory pancakes with friendly staff. I went here as a solo traveler several years ago and enjoyed the experience, so I took my partner back today. It was as if nothing had changed—still a very friendly manager, but a bigger menu! I’ll come back again next time too :)

Maybe choose another place to eat cuz this one is not worth it! The thing they call ‘a pancake’ came 25 minutes after I ordered. And on top of that it was burnt which made my stomach hurt a few hours later. Also, don’t get the Japanese salad thing, it’s not worth the money; you pay 8€ for 50 grams of a mixed salad bag from the grocery store topped with seaweed 🤦🏽‍♂️.

I visited a small restaurant located in a lively street not far from the city center. The interior of the restaurant was pretty simple, and the service was fine, but nothing extraordinary. I ordered pork gyoza, which was perfectly made. However, the combination of extra sweet sauce and dried tuna was too strange and unusual for my liking. I also tried Okonomiyaki with beef, which was a new dish for me. It was interesting to try, but the taste of vegetables prevailed in it. I can't say I liked it, but I don't regret trying it. I also had plum liquor which had a nice prune taste but was too sweet for my liking. As a dessert, I ordered 2 mochi ice cream which was delicious. Overall, I don't regret my visit to the restaurant, but I don't think I'll be a returning customer.

After a tip we went to the restaurant. It's simple but clean and authentic. The chef/chef explained everything about Okonomyaki, patient, friendly, honest. The food was great. First of all we had gyoza with beef (rarely or never eaten so good and fresh). The typical Japanese pancakes were a hit! Completely different from what we know, but tastes great. Absolutely recommended!!!!
