Went there today after reading reviews. Found that the place was closed. Kantjil & De Tiger, as of 11 Sep 2025 seems to be permanently closed.

Interesting experience of Indonesian cuisine. Must try.

We had a wonderful meal. All dishes were perfectly seasoned, very tasty. Highly recommended!

Visited here a little over a month ago and such a great meal!! I’ve never had Indonesian food so this was a great spot to try a variety of things ! My favorite was the beef Randang as well as their Bali ice tea! It was so refreshing but it is sweet so feel free to ask for another shot. The service was amazing! The waiter was so kind and patient as we were trying to decide what we wanted. The space is great for large parties or a more intimate vibe. The portions are smaller so definitely a great date night spot !

I hope they make a fresh start. It would be a real shame if this gem disappeared.

Very tasty, we had the large platter for two people, which gave us a great opportunity to get a taste of this cuisine. It tasted delicious, was varied, and we were very satisfied.

The fish dish I ordered itself tasted very good, the rice as a side dish was quite tasteless/neutral, as were the rice chips, a good sauce with it wouldn't have hurt. The vegetarian mixed platter was very good and recommended.

I had high hopes for this Indonesian restaurant and was excited to try the rijsttafel. The staff were absolutely delightful—friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to my expectations. I was hoping for fresh flavors and bold spices, but the dishes were bland and lacked distinction. The flavors all seemed to blur together, and the overall experience of the meal was underwhelming. While the service was excellent, the food left some to be desired.

I like it here, the staff is very friendly.. We had nasi goreng, babi ketjap, soto ayam, Pangsit goreng, Nasi Putih and so on.. Sehr Lekker, Danke. Unfortunately, Rendang is not really authentic, with a bit more spices and Ingredients it would be perfect. Thank you and we will come back to try something else.

Food was good. Service was below what I would expect. We felt ignored. But when the food came, it was excellent.

Na een dagje museumbezoek dachten wij hier lekker te eten. Een tijdje geen indonesisch gegeten en jaren geleden een goede ervaring. Wat viel dat tegen! Vrijwel alles was smakeloos, lauw en van slechte kwaliteit ingrediënten. Er was weinig indonesich aan, dat gaan we dus niet meer doen.

La cuisine indonésienne est excellente mais il faut se méfier des imitations, à savoir les pseudo-restaurants indonésiens qui ne sont rien d’autre que des attrape-touristes. Le Kantjil en est un bel exemple: sa décoration (très réussie) est indonésienne, sa cuisine ne l’est pas. Ou alors elle est faite par des cuisiniers incompétents. Mon épouse (qui est indonésienne) et moi y sommes allés la semaine dernière et nous en sommes ressortis amèrement déçus. Rien n’était bon (loempia, saté, même le riz était fade). Si vous voulez goûter la bonne cuisine indonésienne, allez voir ailleurs, Amsterdam regorge de meilleures adresses , il faut les trouver…

We were waiting for 40 min for the food and drink, the service and the food was a total disaster! Not going to be there anymore

The restaurant is crowded, especially at dinner time, and the voices are loud for people who like quiet. The food is delicious and the restaurant staff are helpful.

Experience très decevante. Loempia froid, riz insipide et saté lamentable. Serveuse antipathique, limite hysterique quand j’ai eu l’audace de me plaindre. A fuir. La cuisine indonesienne est d’habitude bien meilleure que dans cette pitoyable cantine a touristes.

Ate nasi rames. Generous portion, but didn't really taste like Indonesian restaurant. That doesn't cut it, it tasted like every Chinese restaurant around the corner. Peanuts had flown over it. So it was not refined, it could just as well have gone with the Chinese. Very unfortunate. White wine was good. Yellow Rice was soggy and didn't really have the taste of yellow rice.

The starters were good. The main dishes were not. The main dishes were not recognisable as Indonesian. The manager was very apologetic and gave us money off the bill.

i went here with my family from Indonesia, and they were all happy with the food. Some of the dishes tasted more authentic than others, such as ayam bakar kecap, sate kambing, and gado-gado. Highly recommended! Also, a shout-out to the excellent service: Rafael did an outstanding job: attentive, friendly, and took the time to chat with us, even though the restaurant was busy

Cenamos aquí siguiendo una recomendación del personal del hotel donde nos alojamos (mansión de los bancos). Reservamos una mesa con antelación, lo cual fue prudente ya que el restaurante estaba muy ocupado cuando llegamos. Tuvimos el rijsttafel, que es uno de nuestros favoritos. Tuvimos el Matjan - Carne rijsttafel, que resultó ser muy bueno. Los platos estaban calientes, con mucho sabor, y más que suficiente para dos personas. El servicio fue eficiente sin ser intrusivo, y el restaurante tenía un buen ambiente. El rijsttafel parecía ser muy popular, ya que la mayoría de las mesas a nuestro alrededor, lo ordenaban. Después de que reqd las críticas en este restaurante, qnd se sorprendieron de que había bastantes críticas negativas. Si lo hubiéramos sabido de antemano, con toda probabilidad no habríamos cenado allí. Pero con toda honestidad, la comida y el servicio eran muy buenos. Hemos tenido rijsttafel en otros restaurantes indonesios, y esto se compara muy favorablemente.

Fabulous modern Indonesian restaurant. Great depth of taste in all the dishes. A real find and my first port of call when in Amsterdam.

Era la primera vez que probamos la cocina indonesia. Nos encanta la comida tailandesa y malasia, y había leído que Amsterdam tiene increíbles opciones indonesias. Si bien este restaurante tiene una decoración maravillosa, la comida era todo lo contrario. Pedí el plato vegano. Todo era soso. Nuestros amigos pidieron varios platos de carne que describieron como "basura. " Volveremos a probar la cocina indonesia, pero nunca en este restaurante!

Juste rentrés de ce super repas. Vraiment succulent. Le Rijstafel est incontournable et d’une diversité de petits plats extraordinaires. La bière pression très agréable aussi. Merci au serveur Mathis, franco-hollandais, pour tes précieux conseils sur les plats et les afters!

Tastes and presentation were good from the rice table, but as is often the case with restaurants these days, the food got cold much too quickly. Not everything was presented on warm containers/plates and so you end up eating cold satay with satay sauce. Too bad and unnecessary, where has the old trusted Richaud gone? You simply don't eat a rice table in fifteen minutes.

Service was good. Food so-so, but overpriced. Ambiance ok-ish. Indonesian? No. Not authentic at all.

As the son of an Indo, I am always very colored when I eat Indonesian food again... the food here was tasty. Meat/fish rice table was quite a lot for the two of us. The chicken was delicious. I liked the whitefish a little less, it was Tilapia, which I don't really think is a tasty fish to be served in a restaurant. Service top, nice service! Atmosphere three stars because it is starting to become a bit dated in terms of decor.

Een goede Indonesische maaltijd voor een redelijke prijs. De sfeer is gezellig en de bediening is vriendelijk. Een plek waar we sinds lange tijd weer eens waren en het beviel nog steeds uitstekend.

Tropieza con este lugar y lo afortunados que somos de haber hecho eso. Prueba el plato que hacen con un sabor de todo en él, como recomienda la camarera. Y fue increíble, fácilmente uno de los mejores platos que he comido. El servicio fue genial también. Recomiendo encarecidamente este lugar. Volverá 😊

My first time trying Indonesian food, and I was impressed. Good flavours, relatively inexpensive, and very friendly service. However, I wish the beef rendang was just a bit bigger, but other than that, everything else was superb.

After having eaten in this authentic restaurant a number of times, I can only say that the taste and quality are very consistent. In other words delicious!! The staff has been friendly and fast every time. I like to keep coming here.

The service was good and the drinks too. But the food was not worthy its price 1.because of the quantity, which was very small in a small bowl. 2.(and most important) the spicy eggplant, the tempeh and the noodles where heated again in the “microwave” or whatever. The half plate was cold and the half was hot. I don’t recommend it.

The restaurant was cold, even after our advice it remained far too cold and it was raining outside... the food was good, but only lukewarm and the service was friendly but a bit disorganized. The noodle soup was outstanding!

Essen war kalt und kein Geschmack . Kartoffelnchips war wie Gummi und am morgens haben wir Durchfall bekommen. Die Bedienung hat angefangen den Tisch sauberzumachen obwohl unsere Getränke noch halb voll war.

Do yourself a favour and skip this place. This is not authentic in the slightest and the service is extremely poor. We waited nearly an hour for our food and when we received it, it was cold. I’m not sure what we waited for since we ordered eggplant, rice, some soggy noodles that look like instant noodles that have soaked up too much water, and some dry fish. The best thing I consumed here was my beer…and even that took half an hour to arrive.

Good Indonesian, quite fatty, quite a few dishes with sauce + frying

Gran lugar, servicio amable, muy buenos platos. Algunas bandejas de calentamiento serían bienvenidas para mejorar la experiencia. Un satay frío no sabe igual.

Beautiful interior and ambient lighting inside. Restaurant looks very well presented and staff is welcoming and friendly. However that's probably the only highlight of our dinner. The food took close to 15-20 mins to arrive. We ordered Beef rendang, nasi goreng, sambal spicy egg plant. The portions are small and definitely not the authentic Indonesian flavours.

Had food here that I could only describe as the best parts of Indian food mixed with the best parts of Thai food. It was incredible, we had a meal to-go and ate on the streets and people watched.

We came here after hearing good things from a friend but was a bit disappointed. Food was fine- we ordered a bunch of dishes and the only notably good item was the chicken. We ordered the stir fried vegetables but they looked and tasted like they were steamed. Food lacked seasoning and things were dry. It seemed like a very touristic spot - I’m sure there is better, more authentic Indonesian food elsewhere in the city.

Leider nicht wie erwartet… Buttergemüse aus der TK und lauwarmer Reis ohne Geschmack. Leider wurden wir enttäuscht. Zudem eine langsame Bedienung welche dennoch freundlich gewesen ist. Ich würde aber nicht wiederkommen.

This isn’t authentic Indonesian food. I can’t believe they used ramen and called it fried noodles. Highly won’t recommend if you’re looking for real southeast Asian food.

My regular "go to" spot whenever in Amsterdam featuring Dutch interpretations of Indonesian dishes. Great food. Lovely atmosphere. Service was a little disorganized because it’s simply a very busy restaurant. The wait staff were clearly run off their feet so guests were left waving at servers to get their attention after ordering. The staff did their best but there were clearly not enough of them for the number of diners.

This place is not one bit Indonesian!! Super bland taste. Beef rendang had no spice and no thick gravy. Boiled veggies from a frozen packet. Best way to describe the food is IKEA food with lemongrass. Don't waste a meal here.

Nos topamos con este lugar después de aprender que debe tener "rijsttafel" mientras estaba en Amsterdam. Nos alegramos de llegar a la experiencia, pero nada sobre la comida aquí parecía especial y nuestras bebidas eran, de alguna manera, increíblemente soso. La factura también era increíblemente cara para lo que obtuvimos. Creo que estarías bien si vinieras aquí en un apuro, pero te recomiendo que busques en otro lugar si tienes tiempo!

Indonesian restaurant with “to share” formula. Really well-balanced service; available but not harassing! Generous portions, bursting with flavor, for a very low price!

We shared a vegan rice table. Unfortunately, we found many dishes tasteless and in our opinion it was too pricey. The service was a bit slow and neutral in terms of friendliness. We won't be coming back here again.

Indonesian spot in central Amsterdam that was recommended to me by a friend. Made a reservation beforehand for 8pm for 5 people and were seated immediately. Indoor dining and outdoor dining available. Credit cards accepted. The vibe is casual and chill; good for a weeknight dinner. We ordered the following to share amongst us, as we didn’t want to go with the premade set menus. - Sambal Goreng - pumpkin with coconut milk - first time I tried it and it feels healthy - Pork Satay (2) - I liked this a lot - meat was tender and there was plenty of sauce - Prawn crackers - I would pass on this if you have an Asian grocery store nearby you, as you could get the same thing - Beef rendang - smaller than expected - I would order two if I were to ever be there again - Nasi Goreng - nice side that complemented all the dishes - Bami Goreng - I liked the noodle texture a lot, though this did lack spice - Gado-Gado - another first for me - this was a salad with a sauce, eggs, and crushed chips on top - quite interesting

Comedor interior y cena al aire libre disponibles. Tarjetas de crédito aceptadas. El ambiente es casual y frío; bueno para una cena de semana. Pedimos lo siguiente para compartir entre nosotros, ya que no queríamos ir con los menús prefabricados. - Sambal Goreng - calabaza con leche de coco - primera vez que lo probé y se siente saludable - Cerdo Satay ( 2 ) - Me gustó mucho - la carne estaba tierna y había mucha salsa Galletas de langostinos - Te pasaría esto si tienes una tienda de comestibles asiática cerca de ti, ya que podrías conseguir lo mismo Pediría dos si volviera a estar allí de nuevo. - Nasi Goreng - lado agradable que complementaba todos los platos -Bami Goreng- Me gustó mucho la textura de los fideos, aunque a esto le faltó especia - Gado - Gado - otra primicia para mí - esto era una ensalada con una salsa, huevos, y patatas fritas trituradas en la parte superior - bastante interesante

Average food, if not the restaurant ambiance, could be just food from a street kiosk.

I know this restaurant has good reputation and that is what bothers me the most. Yesterday I asked for take away: tempeh, kipsate, fried rice and noodles (as extras). The extras were ridiculously bad quality. The noodles seemed like overcooked instant noodles with herbs and the “fried” rice was unsalted boiled rice that seemed to be mixed with sambal olek. Both costed 7€. If it wasn’t that expensive I would give it 2 stars. The kipsaté was tasty but we got 3 sticks for 11€. Also overpriced. Plus, the waiters actively ignored us for 5 minutes until they took our order. Again, what bothers me the most is that such low quality food and service is served in a restaurant with good reputation.

Started out rather nice. The server brought a colouring for my kid starters, and beer came fast, but then everything went downhill quickly. Starters were bland (tofu, tempeh deepried).Our server just disappeared. Maines didn't arrive for 40 min. then I went and found the manager who made sure that the food arrived. It was barely warm in a burning hot tray that my wife burned her hand with. Vegetables in coconut milk were almost tasteless. Noodles are overcooked and soft. Beef in a mild spicy coconut souce was hard to chew and didn't taste much. The same I have to say about rice cooked in coconut milk and cinnamon. Besides the colour change, the rice tasted as bland white rice. Again, they were not well done overcooked. At this point, we didn't want to test their desserts anymore. Waited another 10 minutes to get servers' attention, but with no avail. Went to the manager and paid with him. He gave me a discount and apologised- kudos to him but everything else was far from acceptable. Service mistakes I can understand, but bland food in Indonesian restaurant just doesn't make sense.

We did the 2 person Matjan (mean combo special) and really loved it. Our first time eating Indonesian restaurant so I loved having the option of being served so many different dishes to try, all of which were delicious. Definitely too much food, we had leftovers! Reasonably priced. We walked in on Wednesday night at 8pm and were able to be seated right away.

voor wie is de muziek in Kantjil? Het is het soort muziek voor jonge mensen en het lijkt meer bestemd voor het bediendend personeel dan voor de gasten. Daarnaast, het was erg moeilijk aandacht te trekken van het personeel.

Terrible food! Totally bland and arrived cold, defiantly not cooked to order and could well of came from a packet into a microwave. Considering how expensive this place is it felt a bit like a robbery

Was very mediocre, service was ok but food actually very bad. Food Cold on the table so everything was taken off and served again. No warmers on the table. Never again.

Je me réjouissais de ce dernier dîner dans cette si belle ville. Les 2 photos du site internet, les avis sur Tripadvisor et ceux de guides laissaient présager un dîner dans un cadre cosy voir raffiné hors il n en est rien . Impression d’une cantine avec un volume sonore extrême … nourriture basique…bref pour se restaurer rapidement à un tarif raisonnable pourquoi pas mais pour un dîner agréable passez votre chemin.

Not recommended. As soon as we ordered, we suspected that the food would not be freshly prepared, but that everything was pre-cooked, as no special requests were possible. 5 minutes after we ordered the food came. The pasta was overcooked, the vegetables were tasteless. The chips tasted like they had been open for three days - soft and rubbery with a little spicy sauce. €4.50 for 5 chips from the bag. The meat and rice are halfway okay. Price performance absolutely not in proportion. Also a hair in the noodles. I was here a few years ago and it was much better. Quality has deteriorated significantly. Too bad.

The service was friendly and fast. The food was nice but quite bland, I expected some stronger flavors and spices like typical Indo cuisine.

Staff was welcoming to strangers, and service was very quick! Food was delicious. I took a 20 euros plate and it was 100% worth it!

We’re excited to try the Rijsttafel (which I later learned is called Nasi Padang in its homeland), as we are curious about how Indonesian food in Dutch cuisine is like. It’s a lot more meat-heavy than we’re used to, and the rendang tasted a little plain. It was certainly filling, we couldn’t finish everything! The most outstanding dish was the seasoned cabbage which has a fragrant tangy taste unlike any other.

Service and atmosphere was good however the food was so bad that it needs a 1 star all round. Complete tourist trap. I’m from Australia, spent $100 on taste food. The masi goreng did not taste like nasi goreng and the stir fry noodles were definitely instant noodles. Avoid.

It's fine, but kind of a whitewashed version of Indonesian food

Wonderful Indonesian restaurant, conveniently located in Centrum, Amsterdam. The rijstaffel is not to be missed. Reservations a must--it gets really busy with locals as well as tourists.

Food was incredibly dissapointing, the sauteed egg plant was soupy, the pumpkin curry was thin and watery, the sticky rice cake was not prepared as expected. Don't know how the reviews are so high.

Did not feel welcome here. We were rushed in and out in no time. Food quality, service and presentation went from an 8 five years ago to a 3 now. On top they charged us for tap water, disguised as bottled water and charged for items we ordered but we're not served. After complaining, staff was embarrassed and quickly paid the difference back in cash. Very sad to see a once great restaurant go down like this

Very disappointing ! We tested the vegetarian and meat rijstafells. Lots of dishes, including 3 of chips. Mostly tasteless. Nothing like the Indonesian cuisine I expected
