One of the staff is hella rude. Maybe she had a bad day but come on, you can’t be threatening your customers. Even if most of them are nice- one star is all I can give. That attitude… oof bro

We had a great lunch on the terrace protected against the sun by big umbrellas. We recommend this restaurant.

Such a pleasant and peaceful place with a fantastic outdoor terrace. The menu has a great variety, and the service was super fast and smooth. I stopped by for a quick coffee and had a lovely time. Prices are completely standard for Amsterdam. It's definitely a place worth visiting if you are in the area!

They close the place 1.5 hours early without notice "because it's not busy enough" while it's Code ORANGE outside with severe thunderstorms. Makes no sense. And on top of that, a simple beer is 4.20!! It's really gone to their heads.

They closed at 1:45 and showed us into the rain that would only last 20 more minutes.

Torrential rain. Awning hangs out. Tent closes. Awning retracts. One is pushed outside into the thunderstorm without an awning. I have never seen anything so low.

A regular for years, but after Friday night, I will never return here. The three of us sat down on the terrace and pulled up a chair from a free spot. No problem, that seemed fine. When the blonde waitress came by the terrace for the last round, we wanted to order another pitcher. What followed was downright embarrassing. Suddenly, we weren't allowed to sit on the terrace as a trio, we weren't allowed to order anything, and we had to leave immediately. No explanation, no normal conversation, just hostile. I pointed out that we could sit somewhere else for three, fully willing to cooperate. No interest. I asked her to get her manager to resolve the matter. She walked away and came back with a security guard. A security guard. To remove three guests from a terrace who just wanted to order something. The security guards themselves tried to smooth things over and simply pointed us to a spot for three, while the waitress in question had fled onto the terrace. So the solution simply existed, but that blonde employee chose escalation over service. I have been here regularly. Never again. If this is how you treat regular guests, that says enough about the culture here.

We ordered a coffee and a lemonade here. The coffee was fine; however, the lemonade costs 5 euros and you get a large long drink glass filled with ice cubes. When you take the ice out, there is very little left. Additionally, the staff we had do not make eye contact. After mentioning the lemonade, the staff showed no initiative to resolve the issue or pass it on. Instead, they simply brushed it off.

Outside in the terrace was nice, inside was too crowded. So we went home.

Cool drink, nice and tasty finger food, espacially the oriental plate, I loved it !✨ The waitresses were nice and careful, good customer service. The drinks and food were coming pretty fast even though it was a Saturday night 😁 The place was super busy which could make it hard to hear each other, but it’s just because the place is a victim of its success! Haha Keep it up ☺️

Prompt and friendly service! Great menu and lovely sunny terrace! Truly a top spot for the neighborhood. I love coming here for breakfast, lunch, cappuccino, and dinner😊 Update 6-6-2026 Unfortunately, lately it is the arrogant service that is to blame for it no longer being a cozy neighborhood spot. Charging the bill without having received everything and giving priority to smokers. Showing absolutely no understanding if you are unhappy with how things are going and provide feedback. Such a shame when you have celebrated many birthdays there.

Unfortunately, a disappointing experience. The service was unfriendly and rude, which really spoiled the evening. Checking with friends revealed that they have had similar experiences. It is a shame, as expectations were higher. I will not be returning anytime soon.

There was no staff greeting us at the door. We waited and had to ask a staff who let us know that we could sit anywhere, though this isn’t very obvious at the entrance. Food was decent, but nothing too special. We got the shakshuka and turkish eggs for brunch.. The bread that came with it was very good.

Today was Ascension Day, but I think Karavaan seemed to have forgotten that. What chaos and what a disorganized mess. Once seated at the table, it took a long time before we were served at all. After that, you had to wait an incredibly long time for everything. Given the crowds, I found that somewhat understandable, but it went from bad to worse. After a lot of effort, we were finally able to order food. Regarding the food itself, nothing but good things; that was fine. But after that, it seemed as if our table was completely forgotten. Nothing was cleared or asked for, and we subsequently spent 45 minutes trying to get in touch to order something. Eventually, we just walked to the bar ourselves. The girl behind the bar was very unfriendly and told us that ordering wasn't possible, even after we pointed out that we had already been waiting 45 minutes for someone to help us. If you looked around, it was a battlefield everywhere... dirty tables, chaos on the floor, and clearly too little staff (and few with any experience at all). The drink runner turned out to be both a waiter and a hostess at the same time. In addition, we noticed that no one really seemed to have a fixed section, which is unusual given the size of this area. As a result, no one apparently knew which tables needed to be served, and the service felt very disorganized. I don't understand why they didn't decide sooner to close off parts of the terrace or restaurant to ensure service to some extent. It is a shame, because the people working there are generally nice, and it felt mostly like a helplessness caused by poor organization. But it really should have been managed much better. It is a pity, because this place has potential.

Unfortunately, a bad experience. We wanted to sit on the terrace with my 92-year-old mother, but were not allowed to move a chair. My mother uses a walker and cannot walk across the cramped terrace. We were shown to another table with benches without armrests that are also unsuitable for my mother. According to the staff, nothing could be moved by the manager. It is a shame that this lovely terrace discriminates.

I went to celebrate a birthday with a group of friends, and we had an extremely unpleasant experience. We paid a €75 reservation fee only to be seated in a dirty corner, next to brooms, old carpets, and with a very unpleasant smell. The manager was incredibly rude and showed absolutely no interest in finding a better solution. We were also told that we were not allowed to use the tables and that if we wanted to sit outside, we simply had to wait in line like everyone else. At one point, the manager even suggested that we should just go to another bar. Additionally, the waitress was very unfriendly and seemed as if she was working there against her will. The place itself has potential and a nice atmosphere, but the service and attitude of the staff were truly terrible.

Awkward, disrespectful, frustrating. Those were my feelings during my birthday party at this restaurant. They put us in a corner without chairs or tables, the manager made barely any effort to help, and the staff treated us like intruders and a nuisance, forcing us to stand in the end. It was the first time I had made a reservation and had no place to sit; it seemed like a last-minute trick, with no other option. A total lack of consideration.

Awful service, no respect, the manager was really rude. We went there for a friend’s birthday party. It’s around 15 people. We did reserve it in advance, so they had plenty of time to find a good place to accommodate the group. However, they threw us behind a place that looked like a broom closet (see the photo). No chairs. No tables. They made the whole group standing up the whole time. We asked for a better place or at least some stools. The manager just said: “It’s not possible. If you want a better place, go to the regular entrance queue. Or just go elsewhere”. Yes, that’s the mood. No respect. And a group of people angry and hungry - no proper dinner without table.

I paid 42.50 for a bottle of Chardonnay, and then I received water glasses instead of wine glasses. I asked for wine glasses. The man behind the bar said, "It costs us too much energy washing up if we have to give everyone wine glasses." Scandalous. Shame on you.

Nice place with an amazing terrace. Food was great and the drinks were also really good. They have a nice variety of choice for drinks as well as food. I would def come back for a brunch. The downside is their service is very unorganized. It’s almost impossible to get a waiter that actually takes orders. They could be making much more money if they had maybe QR codes to order or simply more people taking orders. You could only order with two people for the whole super packed terrace. So to get them to come to your table was a task every time and that’s kinda annoying.

I’m shocked. I ordered a pint. They claim it’s 0.5. We also ordered a 0.25 and here is photo evidence that it’s a scam. DONT ORDER PINTS.

Good place to stop by for a quick bite! Food was great, tasty!!! Service was just ok. A bit rushed and not welcoming, had to waive at the waitresses about 8 times for utensils, salt, lemon and even the bill!! Overall it’s a good spot for lunch!!!

What a great stop for breakfast. Not wanting a full belly, I opted for the cinnamon croissant and a latte. That croissant was SO dang good 😋. It felt decadent and delivered on flavor. Just bite after bite of 'oh my'. The service was great, helpful, friendly too! 10/10 recommend

Disappointment In my opinion, the place is unnecessarily large. The staff seem tired and burn out; it shows clearly in their attitude. It feels like a place that has grown complacent because it has more than enough customers. I didn’t like the applepie. It was very cold and not fresh. The flat white wasn’t bad. But the table we sat at hadn’t been cleaned, and the service was very slow and problematic.

Obnoxious, very rude staff. I was part of a large group celebrating, that had booked a space and once they were expecting the next group of people, treated us so rudely. There was a tall blonde woman and a shorter dark haired woman who behaved like bulldogs guarding the space we had just moved from, speaking to us so disrespectfully. Pathetic behaviour. The place was already packed; should you not have facilitated a space for us to move to? To expect us to blend into an already packed bar was stupid. Poor planning on your part to try to cram people into a space but not make space for the people who’d just spent a lot of money in your place. Deplorable customer service, I’ll encourage people not to bother with this place.

Had delicious çilbir eggs. Nicely made, fresh bread rolls, and a bit spicy! The pita halloumi was flavorful and had plenty of halloumi.

If you're in Oud-West, Karavaan is a must-visit. It has one of the best terraces in the city for watching the world go by, but its interior (designed by Studio Modijefsky) is a visual feast, inspired by different natural landscapes. What we tried (and loved): The coffee experience: (Photo 21) The coffee is expertly prepared, with that perfect crema, and served in cups that keep it warm. It's the ideal spot for a quick coffee or to settle in with your laptop for a while. Hummus and Mediterranean Dips: (Photo 20) Super fresh! The hummus with pomegranate and nuts is addictive, served with warm pita bread. You can tell they're committed to Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors. Bowls and Healthy Dishes: (Photo 22) The breakfast and lunch options are varied. We tried the bowl with fresh fruit and yogurt, and the quality of the ingredients is evident. They have tons of vegetarian and vegan options that are anything but boring. Key points as a Local Guide: Versatile Atmosphere: In the morning it's super quiet, ideal for brunch or working. At night it transforms completely: the lights dim, the music gets louder, and it becomes one of the best spots in the area for a cocktail or a craft beer (they have their own Karavaan Blond). Decor: Every corner is Instagrammable. From the colorful ceilings to the wood and velvet textures, the design is top-notch. Location: It's right in the heart of Kwakersplein, an area with a vibrant local scene and far from the tourist traps of the city center. Verdict: It's the perfect place for any time of day. The service is young, dynamic, and very friendly (they speak perfect English, as is typical in Amsterdam). If you're looking for delicious food, reasonable prices, and a stylish atmosphere, this is the place for you.

Why it is called "Caravan" has not yet become clear to me.

One person of the staff, a blonde girl, was very rude. We kindly ask to clean the table because it was quite dirty. She deliberately knocked out all the crumbs that was on the table onto us instead of picking them up with her hand or a towel, as one would normally do. And she took a lot of time before to take our orders in addition.

Sorry, but what a GEM this is! Incredibly good atmosphere, top-notch service, a lovely time, and above all, incredibly delicious food! The Greek beef meatballs are amazing (you have to try them!!!) and the hamburger is super too! A solid 10, see you again soon!

great place in every way, except for the food

We waited a long time for the staff just to order drinks. And when a lady finally came by, we asked if they had anything on the menu, but she said no and immediately walked to another table instead of taking our order… very frustrating, and it took a long time before we even received our drinks or food. There was also very little bread with the dish. The only other thing I noticed is that you pay 30 euros to still go home hungry.

I had brunch two times until now at Karavaan. Highly recommend the shakshuka and the falafel flatbread. The falafel was hands down the best one I have tried. This is a nice bar overall. The service is good and the staff are generally quick and friendly. The place itself is super big, so there’s plenty of space and it doesn’t feel cramped, especially during the week. It can get ultra busy on weekends, so be prepared for a louder, more crowded atmosphere if you go then. During the weekdays, though, it’s really nice and relaxed – much easier to find a spot and enjoy your drink without the chaos. Nothing overly fancy or unique, just a good, reliable bar with decent service and lots of room. Worth a visit, especially on weeknights.

The service here is impressively fast, easily among the quickest in Amsterdam, so you’ll never wait long for your food or drinks. The location on charming Kwakersplein with its large sun drenched terrace makes it a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy your meal. Benjamin was incredibly helpful and always ready with friendly recommendations throughout our visit. Overall, a fantastic place with great vibes, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere.
