The local is nice but the service…. Worst in Amsterdam. After we order 12 beers and 2 soft drinks, the waiter come to said it was last round. So I asked tap water and I said “if you go outside to smoke doesn’t make sense order water” What does mean? If I’m asking to you water, it’s mean I’m thirsty, so of course I’m going to drink. For him doesn’t make sense ask to my friends if the water also… How can u denying water to someone? Just because u want to go home earlier. Please change your job. Unpolite guy, really.

The servers were busy, so I went to the bar myself to order immediately, as we only had 30 minutes for drinks. The barmaid immediately got annoyed that I was standing there. I did get my beers, but she put them down so hard on the tray that a lot of beer flew out. I confronted the woman about her poor service. I won't be coming back!

Our favourite restaurant when I’m visiting my daughter. We both always order the same meal, poached eggs with avocado on toast. As well as the avocado on the toast there is 1/2 and avocado. The eggs are soft and delicious. The staff are always very helpful, friendly and attentive to our needs. There is indoor and outdoor seating.

Cozy terrace and nice bar in the evenings. I've never eaten there, so I can't say anything about that, but the atmosphere is great for an evening or afternoon out.

With a group of 5 fellow students we had an interview at Karavaan where there was a homely atmosphere and we quickly felt at ease. We found the food a bit pricey but it was a nice atmosphere 🤩🤩🤩

The place you want to visit is the restaurant where you will see beautiful and delicious food at very affordable prices and it is also a very favorite place for locals, so if you want to see the atmosphere of Holland, then this is the restaurant for you.

TL:DR Great place. Dramatic service. Lovely large terrace in a nice spot, excellent food. But the service. Seriously. Had lunch here again yesterday. It seemed to be going well at first, but I don't understand why the staff, when clearing tables or walking back from an order, don't glance around the terrace to see if anyone wants to order. They just look down and ignore everyone. Uh-oh, one of the ladies finally looks at us. Hand up. Nope. We have her attention but she just walks away. Okay, let's talk to someone actively. "My colleague will be with you in a minute," we managed to get a snap as we walked past. After 15 minutes, still no one. Ugh, ask again. Not even an answer. Just a grumpy look. After another 15 minutes, still no one. Forget it. We were still looking forward to coffee and treats for a table of six, but if that's how it has to be, then no. Madness. Karavaan, do something about this because that grumpy, disinterested service is simply driving your customers away.

You know when people mention that service in the Netherlands is typically pretty bad? This is the place. So in a way, it’s almost a tourist attraction; if you wanna have an idea of what bad service is here in the Netherlands, or if you want to seat somewhere for free without worrying about a a waiter bothering you, I would recommend it. Food is ok.

Not quite my style, but here's my honest opinion of this "yuppie joint." We had a shared dining experience here for work. Unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment: almost everything was overly salty. The crispy flatbread with the steak tartare was especially inedible – it sucked all the moisture out of your mouth the moment you bit into it. The BBQ tenderloin skewers were overcooked, tough, and flavorless, as if all the seasoning had been forgotten. Many dishes remained untouched as a result, and I went home hungry. The service also left much to be desired. Orders were frequently lost, and it sometimes took twenty minutes for drinks to arrive. Mocktails didn't arrive until later in the evening, and some wines were served lukewarm. We were seated in a separate room overlooking the open kitchen. To my surprise, I saw the chef several times eating dishes that were already ready to be served. Tasting while cooking is normal, but you shouldn't touch the plates being served to guests. Summary: The food was too salty, tough, or tasteless, the service was slow and chaotic, and the kitchen was unprofessional. All in all, a disappointing experience.

Nice, rosé isn't rosé here, it's incredibly disgusting and served in a fishbowl. Enjoy!

The food was delicious and we went there for brunch with my friends. The service was a bit slow, but it wasn’t an issue for us. The place has a lovely atmosphere, both inside and outside, and it’s a great spot to enjoy a relaxed meal. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would definitely come again!

The service is absolutely terrible, even by Amsterdam low standards. The waiters were rude. They also refused to split the bill (there only 2 of us). Probably the worst service I’ve experienced in NL. Good was good, but it didn’t matter, the mood was ruined from start to finish.

Very disappointing experience. We ordered calamari, but what we got clearly wasn’t calamari — just small pieces of fried batter. I politely asked the waiter if we could change it for something else, and he agreed. Later, a different waiter came to our table and said, “Sorry this wasn’t what you expected, but we won’t take it off the bill, and if you want something else, you’ll have to pay for it.” We simply said no, thank you. But then, that same waiter came back again with an arrogant attitude and sarcastically asked if I wanted anything else, clearly mocking the situation. The calamari wasn’t the only bad part — the waiter’s attitude was even worse. The fried dish costs €14.95 — think twice before ordering it.

Got the ‘ginger’ and hibiscus lemonade. No trace of ginger in it. Just hibiscus with cold water. My boyfriend ordered the lemon and ‘mint’ lemonade. No mint in it. Just lemon with cold water. I was definitely sorry to have paid 10€ for it

I have been there several times and I have an idea. The place is not bad, good beers and ok food. The problem is the service which is terrible. The policy is that you have to wait to be seated, but this will not happen in the first half hour, after which they will come to serve you after the same amount of time.

Here is one of my favourite restaurant for lunch in Oost. I’ve never eaten such a delicious Çilbir in my life,even in Turkey.. Bread that they serve together,even eatable as a snack. I dont remember how many times ı ate Çilbir,there:) I almost tried entire menu,ı can not say anything negative. There is a big terrace,you should definitely go especially in sunny weather. You can even work there ,so sitting inside is also nice. This place is also popular for dinner and night. If you would like to see locals,that’s nice place for after work,dinner,night.

Really popular spot in the Oud West apparently my Dutchies tell me the ‘new centre’ . The terrace enjoys sunshine all day and the sun kissed punters love it. Super busy on warm evenings so be prepared to wait for a table. Called here a few times for drinks - home- made ginger beer was our favourite softie, made with fresh ginger juice be warned it has a kick! Sadly we didn’t stay for food as the service was so patchy although the plates looked good that passed by our table. On busy shifts some venues buckle under the demand for seats and sit way too many tables making it impossible for the team to service them plunging the whole place into survival mode. Surprising as this venue went bankrupt in its last guise and I was hoping things had changed. Sorry team

the place is nice but lacks some character. The tuna steak was perfectly made (raw inside, yammy!) but so tiny, that even if I ordered four, I would have left hungry, and I am not over-eater. Maybe in menu they should add the weight of the portion, or rater, "a cat meal, a mouse meal, a canary-bird meal, or a butterfly meal" size. Also, on the terrace people were smoking, which made the whole evening poisoned with other people's bad habbits and bad manners. Maybe the restaurant should care for a separate clearly indicated smoking zone. The service was weired as we came to eat, but nobody offered us a food menu at first, there were only drinks and snacks. Which was confusing, and made us loose a lot of time and effort while being hungry.

Sweet waiter with a nice black bob, When I asked what you liked best on the menu, you looked at me as if I was asking you to help me move. "I never eat anything here, so I wouldn't know," you said. Wow. Rarely have I experienced such a spiritual detox from one sentence. I hope you eat something soon. Something warm. Preferably empathy. Your colleague behind the bar radiated job satisfaction, but unfortunately: you are a team. And if one person decides to work as a temp during their notice week, then no one gets a tip. Too bad.

Very noisy! Couldn’t hear each other. Too many tables packed into small space. Came with 5 of us, one child. Had to ask for the child menu after trying to find something for her to eat on the main menu. They should offer this if kids are in the group. Food was nice but asked for no chili on two of the orders but still one came out with chili flakes. Halloumi pita was ok but halloumi was already cold and hard by the time we got it. Ordered coffees after meal took them 20 mins to arrive, too long.

Over 16 euros for homemade lemonade. What did I get? A whole jug of ice with lemonade. Outrageous that you charge 16 euros for this. I want to drink lemonade, not eat ice cubes.

We ate at Karavaan several times in our stay in Amsterdam. The food was really good and they catered well to gluten free. Highlights were the pita bread and the complimentary cinannom cookies with the coffee.

We came to Karavan for my friend’s birthday lunch—and honestly, we should’ve chosen a different place. The experience was disappointing from the start. The waitress, a woman with a heavy nightclub-style makeup and a bob haircut, was incredibly rude and arrogant. It truly felt like she didn’t want to be there and resented having to interact with customers. Her attitude cast a shadow over the entire lunch—why work in hospitality if you’re going to treat people with such visible disdain? As for the food, it was just okay—not memorable, not terrible. The biggest letdown was the orange juice, which tasted overwhelmingly bitter, like orange peel and pith, with a strange aftertaste of sedra. I saw that the same heavy makeup waitress made it, and no one at the table managed more than a sip. All in all, not the kind of place I’d recommend—especially for a celebration.

May 2025 A nice terrace when weather permits. With the last weeks this is an excellent place to have a quick bite. Swift and friendly service. Lot of Sun during lunch time. Small but nice menu with enough choices.

My bike was legally parked but they moved it and the worker who moved it went home. My bike was not able to be found and I had to walk home alone as a woman 45 minutes.

I usually sit here with my sister and my son. Lovely sunny terrace where my son can move and run around. Nice place!

I go here quite a bit because the location is good and the food is decent. However, would say the service is pretty hit and miss. Sometimes you get a nice, friendly wait staff - sometimes you get the surliest person with a massive attitude problem acting like you should be grateful that they actually are bothered to do what they have been paid to do. It's also a total gamble on how fast your food and drinks come out - sometimes its an hour, other times its in 5 minutes. Overall, it's like most places in Amsterdam where because the location is good - they don't give a shit because theyll have customers.

Vibe was great! We sat outside on a sunny day. Was able to order drinks from the QR code & food from server. We had to figure this out on our own. Would have been nice if the hostess mentioned this so we could enjoy our time more than wondering what we were to do. I’m surprised they don’t mention on their menu but they do offer gluten free bread! Was super delicious as well. Seeded :)

A really great place in Amsterdam! You can have a nice drink here both indoors and outdoors, even with a large group. The interior is beautiful and there are all kinds of seating areas: high, low, cozy or in the large room. So something for everyone! They also have a nice variety of drinks, quite a lot of beer on tap, but also homemade drinks and even tasty snacks. Highly recommended if you are looking for a cozy spot with lots of space in the center of Amsterdam.

There was no staff greeting us at the door. We waited and had to ask a staff who let us know that we could sit anywhere, though this isn’t very obvious at the entrance. Food was decent, but nothing too special. We got the shakshuka and turkish eggs for brunch.. The bread that came with it was very good.

Everything great! THE FOOD IS GREAT! HALLOUMI BALLS enjoy it. Service also very nice. Toilets unreasonably warm. Only 6 people from our group of 20 friends were able to use 1 toilet, while we clearly indicated when making the reservation that we would all like to go to the toilet together. Advantages: you order within a 3-minute walk. Great tent!

The food and the cocktails here is good. I visited here once for a company dinner and another one with friends. However, small minus point for an untrain/unfriendly staff. The last time when we were there, a waitress served us the food. We find everything perfectly managed until we asked her for help to cut the burger into half. This is something normal everywhere we have been to in the Netherlands. But that staff’s attitude was a bit speechless. She told us “why dont you guys do it yourself” 🤷🏻‍♀️. We simply said yes but it will be a mess, so could you please help. However, she still showed inappropriate attitude and asked us to do it ourselves again even though we sit right next to the kitchen. So unfortunately the service is 3 here

Be careful, it's a scam, half a liter is not really half a liter, more like 0.4, but you still pay full price. And then also put 6 half liters too much on the receipt…. 4 were removed, but that is still 2 too many...

Would recommend if you want to be scammed and pay an extra €50 for drinks you didn’t have and like to spend an evening screaming in order to even get a drink :) if you enjoy hospitality this is THE place!

Delicious lunch. The service was very friendly and quick and the food was fantastic. I had Çilbir, didn't know it, but completely cleared my plate with the fantastic bread. They also have a good chai latte, although it is a bit on the small side. Not too expensive either, definitely recommended!

The service and atmosphere at this establishment were excellent, creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment. However, the acoustics left something to be desired, making it difficult to fully relax during busy times. The biggest letdown was the food, which failed to meet expectations in both taste and quality. That said, it’s a pleasant spot for a drink and a bite from the snack menu, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a full meal.

We had a great surprise drink at Karavaan. The team was also super helpful via email beforehand. Super responsive and accommodating to all my requests. On the day itself we had the beautiful space at the back with our own bar and super sweet staff. Would recommend to anyone planning a larger get together with 20 or more people. Karavaan also has great drinks packages for a reasonable price.

I loved it, I went without any expectations regarding the food and everything was delicious. I loved the bitterballen. The calamari, and the mezze delicious too. There was also a good atmosphere and the service was impeccable.

We came across the restaurant by chance, pleasantly surprised by the number of vegetarian and vegan options. Rather simple, colorful, sunny and tasty cuisine. The service team was friendly, cheerful and spoke English.

The quinoa salad is “een echte aanrader”—highly recommend. Make a reservation if you’re coming with a larger group because this place is popular, and keep in mind the terrace seats are first come, first served.
