Settled down here for a drink, the three of us. There is a lot of nostalgia attached to Kraantje Lek and the Holleboom. I used to come here as a toddler on a school trip to climb the sand dune. Now with my grandchildren, who are by then quite advanced. A nice spot with a Grimberg in the shade. One point of criticism is that the waitresses came one after another to ask if everything was still okay. I had barely had my beer placed in front of me when another girl came to ask if everything was okay. I find this disturbing, pushy, and very annoying.

I participated in the cheese fondue promotion on August 12th. I just wanted to say that my pot was sooo small and barely half full; I was still hungry afterwards!! The same goes for my table companion.

The oysters were tasty but very small. I found the drinks quite pricey, and the beer wasn't super cold. It's nicely advertised as a beer from Brewery Ei, but it's from a bottle, whereas I expected it from the tap, which was also a bit disappointing. Ultimately, having been here and not really sitting in peace, I won't go again; there was really a lot of noise from people.

Had super tasty mussels and pork tenderloin satay in the garden on the way back from the beach. Super friendly staff, small menu with delicious dishes made from excellent ingredients. The layout of the terrace surrounding the building is atmospheric. The only loss of a star; apparently, we were sitting in a spot on the terrace right next to the toilets. As a result, we sometimes heard and smelled things.... It might be useful to look into what can be done about that. But otherwise; don't change a thing!

At the memorable spot by the old tree near the sand dune. This restaurant is located here, a cozy place to enjoy the food. In our case, the BBQ. We had a fantastic meal, with an extremely helpful chef behind the Kamado. They host several events throughout the year. At the back, there is a terrace next to the playground for the children. For peace and quiet, you can also enjoy something tasty on the terrace at the front.

What a lovely place! It's a fantastic place for the children to play, and parents can keep a good eye on the playground from the terrace. The food is great and it's very cozy 😍

It’s a nice place, mind you, but it is un-believable that during the weeks-long national drought of summer 2026, a huge wood stove is just standing outside on the terrace smoking in the wind!! We were sitting right next to it and watched in utter disbelief as small sparks occasionally blew out of the basket! Dear people, where is your common sense? There are daily dune fires. We reported this to the waitress; the manager was inside talking somewhere. I hope that from today onwards, open fires are truly no longer used.

We came here for a late lunch after a long cycle and this place is like an oasis in the dessert. The ambience is nice and the service is very friendly. We were served by Philippa and she is awesome in every way. We ordered a fondue, a dessert, 5 ice creams and few drinks. The food was decent, the drinks were refreshing and the prices were fine. We will definitely visit again. Thank you for everything and keep up the good work.

Is and remains a prime location

We visited this restaurant while on vacation in Overveen with a group of five adults and three four-year-old children. We had a wonderful time! The kids happily played for about an hour and a half, which allowed us to relax and enjoy our meal without any interruptions. We ordered a variety of dishes, and everything was absolutely delicious. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. We truly enjoyed our experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant, especially for families with young children!

Fun for the kids to play. The staff is friendly, but could pay a bit more attention and stop by more often to see if you want to order anything. There was a lot of broken glass in the hallway leading to the outside/toilet/restaurant. Also, many kids walk around barefoot because of the playground and the sand. I asked if they could perhaps keep an eye on that and sweep briefly. Unfortunately, there are a lot of wasps now. Otherwise, great!

Sit and eat in a nice, relaxed atmosphere.

The location and playground are undoubtedly the biggest assets. The service, as well as the friendliness thereof, is certainly not shared by the entire team. And don't come here for the Espresso; it was downright bad!

GREAT TIME WITH THE KIDS! They in the playground and you relaxing at a table in the sand with a view of the playground. Pancakes, chicken satay, toasted sandwiches, croquette rolls. All simple, but perfectly fine! Only parking is a real nightmare here. Make sure you get there before lunch starts, otherwise it's a lost cause.

A lovely restaurant/café with a huge playground and a great outdoor area. The service was very attentive and pleasant, but unfortunately, I had some bad luck with my smoked salmon—it was tough and sinewy. The restrooms could have been a little cleaner, but overall, it's definitely worth a visit, especially with children. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, there's an outdoor area without a playground on the other side of the building.

We used to have positive experiences at this place, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case during our most recent visit. The food is overpriced and served in a rather odd way. The adult toastie came with unusual bread and sausage, while the children’s version was made with the cheapest white sandwich bread. There was plenty of cheese, but it wasn’t even fully melted. When we asked what type of butter was used, we were met with the response, “Is that important?”—which felt dismissive rather than helpful. I was hoping dessert would make up for it, but the apple pie was still frozen when it was served. To top it off, they don’t offer tap water with a meal, and despite having plenty of staff, the service was slow and disorganized. The location is lovely and the playground is a real plus, but overall the experience was disappointing and didn’t justify the high prices.

The menu prices have become far too high, especially for what you get: a lot of crowding around you, poor and mediocre service, and little and mediocre food (depends on the dish). The service has deteriorated: it was cold and we couldn't sit inside due to a large party (that can happen, but…) we had to wait outside in the cold for a long time before we even received menus, then before we could even order a drink, and our food and the starter (nachos) took at least another 20 minutes. The quantity of the food was low (we received very few nachos, especially for €13.50, and they were practically all broken/crumbled as well) (+ 1 chicken satay stick for €18.50). Due to a funeral reception, we could only sit outside on a crisp/cool summer evening. I asked for a cushion for the bucket seat and a blanket, and the waitress's answer was an immediate 'no,' and after asking again and her pressing further, it was still 'no,' while a French-speaking colleague saw that I was cold and immediately did his best to arrange something—with success. Kraantje Lek seems to have become a food barn, with very changeable staff, excessively high prices, and far too low quality and quantity.

I haven't eaten here, but it is a nice neighborhood.

We visit Kraantje Lek regularly. Since the last takeover, the food hasn't improved. My wife and I have said this to each other a few times already. However, Saturday, July 11th, was the low point. My wife has an allergy; she explicitly mentions this, and then we receive our food (which also took an extremely long time). My wife takes a few bites and discovers that the very thing she is allergic to is actually in it. The carpaccio that was served was simply brown. The spareribs were cold. My food, the bulgur salad with spicy chicken, was good. However, after eating this, I visited the toilet about 30 times the next day. My children's pancakes were super thick. Conclusion: it was truly the last time we ate here. And I find that really a shame because the children love coming here. The wait staff themselves admitted that it was chaos in the kitchen and that they really didn't think it was acceptable that the kitchen served my wife this food. They also compensated us. I am really the easiest person when it comes to food and you hardly ever hear me complain when I arrive somewhere, but this is really NOT okay!

What a terrible place this is. And the food was inedible😣🙈🥶😝🙃😩 We had reserved for 5 people. You arrive and nothing is arranged. There was no table ready😩 Figure it out yourself and see if there is a table available. This is really unacceptable. That's where it started. Ordered antipasti and grilled sausage. A few slices of grilled sausage for a whopping €8.😖 The antipasti wasn't tasty. You don't serve this. Broccoli and cauliflower on top (you don't see any vegetables with the main course. You have to order them extra for €7.) A few pieces of cheese (from the supermarket). Fatty sausage🙈 A few cherry tomatoes. And that was it. You could make a lot more of this. And very expensive. And now the main course. Also inedible. 3 of us had turbot. It was swimming in fat. A load of olives and capers on top. 2 Cherry tomatoes. That's it. Fries and vegetables, of course, have to pay extra again at €5.50 per container😣 And now for the satay. If you wanted pork tenderloin satay, you had to pay another €3 extra for that. This is really crazy. Also inedible. And now the drinks. Too bizarre for words. A rosé €7.50🥶 A Fanta almost €4. Cappuccino €4.10😝 All very expensive. It must be inflation. Or Ukraine. The staff isn't great either, mind you. They look grubby. And no good service. I could go on and on. Please go eat somewhere else. Don't waste your money here. The reviews above are very recognizable. Poor hygiene. Never again🙈😩😖

Social Deal mussels. Throwing a handful of fries on the plate without asking and charging 3 x 5.50 per person for it. Actual savings 1.95 p.p. If you serve a menu with a deal, you have to inform the customer about it correctly. Coffee was ditch water. Staff not proactive and sometimes uninterested. Used to be very good and now just making money vulgarly at the expense of customer friendliness and quality. But the USP is the location and that is being exploited.

The service is downright mediocre. You can talk about it all you want, but it just takes a really long time. 20 minutes for a beer is simply too long. Prices are on the steep side. The only nice thing is that you can sit here comfortably with your children. I think that is the only reason to still go here. Still a shame.

What a lovely place Kraantje Lek is. We went here with the family on Saturday morning and immediately noticed how quiet and relaxed the atmosphere is. No overstimulation, just a nice place where you can truly enjoy yourself for a moment. The service was incredibly friendly & hospitable. You feel welcome without it feeling forced. The American pancakes with blueberries and syrup were delicious, the apple pie with whipped cream was exactly as you hope (especially regarding the portion size!), and the cappuccino with oat milk topped it all off. Sometimes you come across a place where everything just clicks: the surroundings, the tranquility, the food, and the people. Highly recommended if you just want to have a cozy breakfast, coffee, or lunch here. We will definitely be back here again!!

The service is really terrible. We wanted to order something to drink and were a party of 6; the boy who served us couldn't handle the computer and asked 4 times what we had ordered. We indicated that we also wanted something to eat, but the boy never came back. We were sitting in full view of the staff, but only after we called the same boy after about ten minutes did he say, "Oh, forgotten." We eventually ordered 5 pancakes and 1 set of croquettes with bread. When the pancakes arrived, we were given 2 almost empty bottles of syrup with about 2 cm of syrup left in them, with the explanation that the leftovers had to be finished. Syrup is syrup, of course, so it took quite a while before there was anything on the pancake, and naturally, this was not enough for 5 pancakes. When we asked if we could get some more syrup, we were given another 2 bottles, again with about 2 cm of syrup. When one of the ladies then asked if we could perhaps get a fuller bottle, there was no further response. We were with a small group of hikers who wanted to pay separately, but even this was a problem via card. Cash was accepted. At that moment, the employee walked away and another employee came over who told us that they do not handle separate payments when it is busy. I pointed out that there were hardly any other customers present besides us, so I didn't see the problem. In the end, we were able to pay by card individually. Conclusion: very poor service and uninterested, rude staff who are mainly busy with each other but not with the customers. In one word: WORTHLESS !!!!!!

Fantastic spot for a family-oriented meal or party. We hosted around 45 adults and children for an afternoon borrel. The pannekoekenfeest was a HUGE hit with the kids- it’s an elaborate set of toppings in addition to the usual stroop and powdered sugar. We also ordered blinis and charcuterie “snack” boards which were both delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was very attentive and I appreciated that the head bartender made an excellent Aperol Spritz! Thank you, Kraantje Lek!

Visited Kraantje Lek with the children again after 2 years. Unfortunately, it has deteriorated more than it used to be. The food has become even more expensive, with less choice and lower quality. After waiting 20 minutes, I walked over to someone to ask if we could be served, only to be told that someone would be coming by shortly. The waitresses had already been standing around talking to each other for a while, so I had to wait even longer for staff. Consequently, after waiting 30 minutes, I was finally able to order and ask for the menu, which unfortunately also disappointed with the selection. The upside is that the children aren't bothered by this because they can play freely. Furthermore, certain staff members smelled of sweat, so it wasn't very fresh (it was a hot day). Additionally, I find it very unprofessional when the young waitresses are working in very short shorts.

Kraantje Lek can't do much about it, but the clientele in and around Haarlem is simply different these days. More international, more oat milk types, less of the old charm.

Beautiful location, atmospheric business. It's a shame that the friendly, young staff pay more attention to each other and therefore don't do much. When they are there, they are friendly. A few professional people would make a world of difference.

After waiting an hour and a half for our food, we left... Despite our reservation, we were placed in a cramped spot between two tables. The tables were dirty and there was no menu. It took a long time for someone to take our order, and finally, after an hour of waiting, the food hadn't even been delivered. Our order was rushed to the kitchen, but after half an hour, nothing had arrived, and the table still hadn't been cleaned. We left to eat elsewhere. Drinks were on the house, but unfortunately, it wasn't a pleasant experience.

What a difference from the past. The playground is fun for the little ones. The organization and staffing could be better.

Delicious food and good atmosphere!

The QR codes on the tables (outside) didn't work. It happens, but the waitstaff clearly didn't feel like working or thinking. You ordered a latte macchiato with sugar, forgot the sugar, asked for it, and then they had to go inside to get it, and then didn't think you also wanted a spoon, which ended up being too small.

The atmosphere is great. The service is perfect.

The place remains beautiful, but it's a bit run down. It's a bit of a mess. The playground is great for playing around, but please put the tables and chairs back in order, tidy up as soon as people leave, put a cloth over the table, and don't leave menus and other trash on the floor. The food also deserves a little more attention, as does the coffee. Bacon and cheese pancakes were undercooked, salty, and the cheese was nowhere to be found. The flat white oatmeal was just strong coffee with a 2mm layer of foam. So come on, Kraantje Lek. It's not rocket science.

Last Sunday I celebrated my birthday at the Tuighuis with lunch. The atmosphere is fantastic. The fire was burning nicely, and two helpful guys were helping out at the bar. It's highly recommended.

The food is pricey, small portions, and unfortunately, the quality is highly variable. The soup wasn't warm anymore, with skin on it, the lettuce was brown, the pancakes were tasty but expensive, the syrup was gone, the service was really poor, unfriendly and inattentive, and the drinks arrived long after the food arrived.

Sat for half an hour without any staff taking orders. Staff who were late were running around like headless chickens. But I went to a different terrace.

The meeting at the Tuighuis was perfectly organized by Kraantje Lek. Everyone was happy with the lunch, and the communication was quick and clear. Highly recommended.

Friendly and helpful staff, charming, small restaurant in a wooded setting. We had a delicious lunch for 23 people. The dishes were freshly prepared and generous portions. We had slices with bread and salad. The starter was tomato soup. Even the wines and beers were delicious. The playground for the kids was really great!

We celebrated our wedding at Tuighuis. We had a fantastic evening! Kraantje Lek prepared everything perfectly, and the waitstaff was fantastic throughout the evening! Tuighuis is perfect for a party of around 70 people. It's a very atmospheric space. The snacks were also delicious. In short, we're so glad we celebrated our wedding at Kraantje Lek!

We went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. There were many families with little children as was to be expected. Menu card is pretty good, meal delivery time is reasonable and so are prices. Food was good. All in all good value. We would return but instead of using the car we'll bike to it.

The food and atmosphere were perfect. We were given a cheese fondue for four people, including bread and vegetables, so we had to ask for service several times. They didn't even come back to ask if we wanted more drinks or if everything was okay. Let's just say it was busy. The food was really excellent (schnitzel, pork stew, cheese fondue).

The food is excellent, the location is beautiful, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. However, the service is extremely poor. A 20-minute wait for a drink is the rule rather than the exception. And having to pay an extra €4.50 on your Social Deal 3-course dinner of your choice for a bacon and cheese pancake is ridiculous. It's not mentioned anywhere, so it's pure fraud. No tip. Not deserved.

As always, a nice playground and a friendly atmosphere. The price/quality of the food was very poor. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of the children's pancake; it was just apple slices covered in pancake batter, and it cost 9 euros!! (The menu said 6 euros, but apparently that was for a plain pancake). This unfortunately means my last lunch here.
