Best place in Amsterdam for Italian food… Highly recommend!

We asked about vegan options before booking because we were visiting with a group, and they confirmed that this would not be a problem. However, once we arrived, the only vegan “options” available were a salad and baked potatoes. I also specifically asked for roast cauliflower without cheese or sauce, yet it still arrived covered in cheese. This makes it seem like they claim to accommodate dietary requirements without actually understanding them, or caring to, which is really disappointing. On top of that, the food was ridiculously overpriced for the small portions we received. To make matters worse, the toilet is located in the middle of the dining area, and the entire place smelled strongly of bleach, which is extremely unpleasant when you’re trying to eat.

Service 10/10 Food 10/10 The menu switches constantly so you can always expect something new. The pasta was perfectly cooked. The meatballs were exceptional! And the tiramisu to finish was again perfect. I would absolutely go back. Ate all of the food before I could take a photo, but did get one of the tiramisu.

NOTE: This experience took place last August. Yes, the head waiter is indeed Italian, but he wasn't exactly the epitome of friendliness. The novice waitress did her best, but oh well... The worst part, however, was dinner: ridiculously small portions, yet insultingly expensive for both the quantity and the level of preparation. The menu was limited. We ordered vegetable starters (a strip of eggplant with some oil and grated cheese on top) and a pasta main course so meager that we had to go somewhere else to eat afterward. The atmosphere: a small (but packed) place with neutral, arguably elegant decor, but the space between tables was far too cramped. Perhaps those unfamiliar with authentic Italian cuisine might find this pretentious place "cool," but it's simply a rip-off.

A trattoria that embodies the true essence of Italian food, with excellent quality both in terms of service and food. Extremely friendly staff and a super clean place. After days of searching for a similar place, we've determined that there's nothing better.

Loved the authentic flavors and cosy atmosphere

My husband and I were here to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary. We had a fantastic evening; the food was exquisite and of the highest quality. The effort put into the dishes was clearly visible and palate-pleasing. The presence of Silvio the cat was also very cosy. ❤️ Highly recommended!

Located a bit outside of Amsterdam's main tourist area, La Trattoria Di Donna Sofia serves incredible food in a small, intimate environment. We found this place accidentally 2 years back and, being back in Amsterdam for 1 night two years later, had no debate about getting dinner here. Can't recommend enough.

Cozy little spot that instantly feels like the heart of Italy. Great food, super welcoming staff, and the best part? Silvio the Cat !! He roams around and if you are lucky enough, he might justin hop onto your table for some extra charm- seriously adorable.

We had a great dinner here! The menu doesn’t have too many options, which actually makes it easier to choose. They change the menu from time to time, The food was excellent and the pastas were truly delicious. The restaurant is in a nice location.

This is a wonderful and very charming restaurant. You MUST have a reservation for dinner but we booked the night before and was easy online. Many people were turned away trying to walk in. The food was delicious. We ordered the ricotta ravioli and the tagliatelle ragu. Both were wonderful. The tagliatelle was very al dente but still was tasty. I had a glass of the one rose and it was very nice. My husband ordered a gin drink nd it was very strong. The ambience was lovely. We te and watched the gelato shop across the way where we ultimately got dessert. The service was okay. Three of the six staff members had called out that night but everything ran as smooth as it could have with three people working the entire restaurant. There is easy bike parking down the adjacent alleyway, no car parking of any kind.

We enjoyed this restaurant so much we came back twice in our 3 days in amsterdam. The location and ambience are wonderful, and they were very accommodating to my partner's gluten intolerance.

They don't understand hospitality here. It seems difficult to ask if everything was to your liking. They never asked once. They really pushed for a more expensive drink. The food was a dry mozzarella ball with oil-soaked arugula. The fish main course was dried out on top and undercooked on the bottom. A truly awful experience.

Sarà che dopo 2 settimane in Scozia avevamo veramente bisogno di tornare a mangiare italiano.... ma ci siamo trovati benissimo. Piccolo locale con cucina non elaborata ma con prodotti di qualità. Polpette di Donna Sofia molto buone, morbide e con ottimo sugo da fare scarpetta. Consigliato

We stumbled upon this gem after the pizza place we originally planned to visit was full and we’re so glad we did! We were a group of eight and didn’t expect to be seated, but the owner kindly asked us to wait a moment and quickly set up a table just for us. The service was incredibly friendly and accommodating, and every request we made was met with a smile. The ravioli was hands-down the best we’ve ever had, and everything else we ordered was absolutely delicious. A wonderful surprise and a highlight of our trip!

We came by accident because another restaurant did not have its main menu in stock. Although crowded we got a table for 3 (guys) and we immediately felt at home. Great food/ambiance and service. I had the feeling that everything on the menu worked. Will bring my wife next time as i am sure the italian athmosphere will also do her well. (next to the excellent champaign)

Hermoso servicio de David y su equipo que nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos para el cumpleaños de mi suegra. La mayoría de nosotros comimos la pasta rellena con ricota y limón en salsa de mantequilla y salvia o los tagliatelle con ragú de carne (yo prefiero este último). Debo decir que la carne estaba deliciosamente tierna desde la articulación y lo recomendaría altamente a otros.

The service is great. The atmosphere is also good, it can be a bit crowed and noisy because of the location. The food was good, I loved the starters, but the main pasta dish I had was nothing special, also very salty. Still I would recommend it to try it out.

Visited today for my Mum's 60th birthday. The staff were outstanding, made Mum feel very special. Food was exceptional. Would recommend to anyone!

Very tasty pasta! The restaurant has a small menu that changes regularly. Especially the homemade ravioli is recommended. The service is also very good and there is a very sweet cat that belongs to the restaurant and comes to sit next to you.

We had the most amazing experience! It was our wedding date, and the staff went above and beyond to make it incredibly special for us. Incredible and friendly service. Managed to squeeze us in without a booking. Prices were slightly on higher end but very reasonable for fine dining in a more casual intimate setting. Possibly best Ravioli I’ve ever had.

The homemade ravioli with ricotta and lemon in butter and sage is just heavenly. Service was good, everything came very quick and we had a lovely waitress. Definitley coming back to try the Eggplant Parmigiana.

My first time dining in here I was just walking by and loved the way this place looked from the outside, So I decided to come here for dinner. I had green pea purée with baby octopus for starters and spaghetti with olive oil and garlic , for my Main course had veal cheek with mashed potatoes and I will have to say it was delightful, If you are in Amsterdam, I highly recommend this place. You definitely enjoy every bite and the service is outstanding.

Personal - muy acogedor y allí para responder a cualquier pregunta. Ubicación - situado en Jordaan, unos bares alrededor para tomar una copa antes o después de venir aquí. Comida - pedimos la Polpette “Donna Sofia” que compartimos, era muy agradable pero solo 3 albóndigas por 18€. Luego tuvimos Rigatoni Al Ragu Di Manzo & Ravioli Ricotta E Limone En Burro E Salvia, se nota que se utilizaron ingredientes de calidad. En general recomiendo, pero no si tienes mucha hambre.

A cozy trattoria with well-executed Italian classics; the cacio e pepe is to die for.

Been here for the second time, we had our annual friendship diner. The ambiance, food and drinks absolutely add up to the feeling of a special night; don't go here for "a quick bite", the food is too good for that. Very friendly and capable people are working here. The menu has limited choice, and that's perfect. The different dishes suit eachother well. My favorite is the ravioli with rucola and lemon in butter and sage!

Amazing Italian food! Everything was so tasty and delicious 😋 Wine was good too. Limited vegetarian option but the things they had were amazing.

Burata is tasty, but too expensive €16 for 1 ball. Mediocre pasta, also very small portions. I had the ravioli ricotta e limone, these were really 5 thin raviolis: €24 that fit in your hollow molar. I'm not a big eater, but a double portion would have been more reasonable given the price and not even a normal portion. For “is everything to your satisfaction?” indicate this, but service says “ok” and simply ignores it further. Then don't ask this. You'll be outside again in 40 minutes and €100 lighter for 2 people. For English speaking: small portions, doesn't respond to feedback, too expensive for what they preach. More bistro, will be outside in 40 min and €100 lighter for 2 persons

Such an amazing little gem of a restaurant! Not only were they super kind and accommodating for our party of 7 (which started off as 2), they were wonderful hosts with such delicious food. The portions were perfect and each bite absolutely delectable. My favorites were the Lemon Ricotta Ravioli and the tiramisu! All the guests were so happy we picked Trattoria Di Donna Sofia for our dinner.

We enjoyed our dinner but the experience could have been so much better. The burrata was fridge cold, the pasta was served on cold plates/bowls and the tiramisu was odd- very very sweet and clearly mixed with evaporated or condensed milk. Great service just shame we were let down by the food offering.

A lovely Italian restaurant in Jordaan. The food was absolutely spledid and the service was very friendly and welcoming. I especially loved the Aglio Olio with the peperoncini. The restaurant is home to a very cute orange cat which lounges around making the atmosphere even better.

A Delightful and Memorable Dining Experience Our visit to La Trattoria di Donna Sofia was nothing short of amazing. It was a spontaneous night out with my girlfriend, and even without a reservation, we were warmly welcomed. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a big, Garfield-like cat that calmly roamed the busy restaurant; a charming touch that added to the cozy atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and instantly guided us to our table, offering us a choice of sparkling or still water as we settled in. The restaurant’s ambiance was vibrant yet relaxed, filled with couples, families, and friends enjoying good food and quality time together. For starters, we tried the homemade meatballs in tomato sauce. One bite in, and I was tempted to ask the waiter for the recipe! My girlfriend and I agreed they were, hands down, the best meatballs we’ve ever had. For mains, she chose the melanzane, and I had the lamb chops. Both dishes were well complemented by their house red wine. All in all, it was a lovely experience from start to finish. I’m already looking forward to visiting them again!

Yo tenía el tagliatelle con carne de res Ragu y mi marido tenía el rigatoni con guanciale. Ambos eran absolutamente deliciosos! Todo el mundo era tan amable y acogedor y acordamos que era una de nuestras comidas favoritas durante nuestro viaje. Llegamos un poco temprano así que tuvimos la suerte de sentarnos junto a la ventana y al lado de Silvio, calentándose donde hacía calor🧡😺

To be honest, a mediocre tent. We thought that a 4.6 out of 5 stars would give us a nice evening. The location and furnishings are really pleasant and well done. The dishes are really mediocre and the price is minimal for what you get. Add to this that the wine list is minimal, the entrance door is always open (very cold) and the dishes are simple and do not do justice to Italian cuisine. They are only focused on the time slots and while you still have your menu in your hands, they already ask what you want to eat. At least never again for us.

This Italian restaurant is a gem for anyone who loves great pasta! The main courses were absolutely amazing, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. We started with the Polpette “Donna Sofia” (meatballs in tomato sauce), which were okay but nothing special. However, the pasta more than made up for it. The service was also a highlight—friendly and welcoming. Overall, a fantastic spot for an authentic Italian dining experience, especially if you’re a pasta lover!

Pricey! We had to wait a long time before we could order our aperitif even though it was not yet full. It's also a pity that the door was left open all the time, making it uncomfortably cold. Then close it yourself again... Also very pricey wine, few options. We are used to quite a bit, but a bottom wine for €10 or €12 per glass is up to par. Amsterdam or not. Nice Italian service. The food: unfortunately the melanzane was not really warm, especially not in the middle. Flavors did come into their own. We also had to leave after 2 hours even though there were no new guests. Too bad, we won't be back. €185 for two.

Abbiamo passato una splendida serata,lo staff davvero accogliente, una particolare attenzione la voglio dedicare a Vanessa, che con la sua dolcezza e il suo sorriso ci ha accompagnato per tutto il tempo,il cibo è superlativo, abbiamo preso due primi e non sapevamo decidere quale dei due fosse il più buono,per non parlare della tagliata ,la carne si scioglieva in bocca! Sono amante della buona cucina e questo posto è davvero una Chicca ad Amsterdam!!! SSTRACONSIGLIATO!

Food was decent, but over priced. Service was good, but overly popular. The atmosphere was good, the surroundings were fine, but it was packed and therefore very noisy.

Good gastronomic experience in Italy. However, the prices for the dishes are higher than other Italian restaurants in the city.

Great location and delicious food, but pricey. Because time slots are used, the atmosphere is mediocre. A couple next to us who wanted to have another glass of wine were turned away because the time was up. That was not conducive to the atmosphere.

Firstly; the food is great, no issue with that at all. In fact I've eaten there twice already and apart from the time from ordering until we got the food was bordering on too long, we enjoyed our meal. My main issue was even after have eaten their before and getting to know them because I live just around the corner I was unable to make a reservation for 6 people without a creditcard. I offered to pay in cash, debit or PayPal but for according to the girl who was helping me it could only be done online & with a creditcard. In my eyes that's not at all a friendly nor hospitable thing to do to a neighbour. If you're just in the city once and want a good italian meal; definitely recommended. I will go to one of the many other great restaurants around though.
