Ladybird Fried Chicken Amsterdam in Oude Pijp

For a place I was looking forward to visiting for a while, the experience was severely underwhelming. We went on a Saturday evening, it was not busy. The interior was very dark, but not in the atmospheric way. Very uninterested waiter seemed to be annoyed we were even there. He looked like he just walked inside from the street, including beanie hat. We were sceptical at this point, but decided to still give it a chance and ordered the spicy classic menu with mac and cheese. The chicken was juicy, but there was no spice at all. It seemed hardly seasoned. And the mac and cheese was lukewarm. When we were finished and the plates were taken away, moments later the waiter (without a word!) places the PIN terminal on our table and leaves again, leaving us staring at the "Add tip?" screen. Really wishing for something positive to say but all around this was an awful experience. We went elsewhere to get some decent food. Props to whoever is running their social media - You really tricked us.

The fried chicken was delicious and the service great. Will definitely be back!

Very pricey! The chicken was tender and crispy. I ordered spicy, but my chicken wasn't spicy at all—not even a little bit. A small, paltry container of sauce costs €2. I found the service terrible: after being served, we weren't asked if everything was to our liking, if it tasted good, or if we wanted to order anything else. Okay, but definitely not something I'd order again.

The employee looked tired and uninterested, the menu papers were old and falling apart, the fries were so salty I couldn’t eat them, the chicken was standard, and I think it’s a bit expensive for this level of quality. They told me food is Halal but there was no sign on the entrace door telling its a Halal restaurant.

Really really really good fried chicken. Amazing cornbread, homemade sauce (the ranch was 10/10) just too bad they don’t give more…ordered a second sauce, maybe that’s the only critique; bigger portions for the sauce! Everything else was spot on. I’m from the south of America and it really tasted like home, I would recommend! (I ordered the “I ❤️ wings” and it was the perfect serving)

Unbelievably good, no-frills fried chicken. Portions are generous, especially considering the price, without compromising on quality. The service was also very attentive and friendly.

The chicken was good, but unfortunately the dessert was very disappointing. I expected it to be good as it stated the brownies and pecan pie were homemade. So I was expecting freshly baked desserts. The brownie was solid only a tiny portion of was warm so it had obviously been frozen. Brownies are so simple to make and should be soft and moist.The pecan pie tasted more like chocolate and not pecan. Plus the nuts were soft so most probably it was also frozen. Such a pity ! We were served by a lovely lady and she did advise me to speak to the chef, when I told her the desserts were disappointing. I only told her the desserts cc were disappointing after I had paid the bill. I wasn't looking for discount just wanted to pass on my opinion on them.

Good chicken but service and atmosphere left us wanting to leave. Wouldn’t recommend given all the other restaurants available in the city. Fix the service and the review would have been positive. Unlikely to return. Service and general experience: 1. Service was really poor. Disengaged and miserable waitress put a downer on the visit. Was uninterested in her job and just wasn’t friendly. First comment as we asked for a table was “we’re closing at 10pm”. This was 1.5 hours away and came across poorly as a first comment in the way she delivered it. Don’t think she smiled once across our whole visit. Could see / hear other tables having issues with service. 2. Cleaning of floors an hour before closing meant we ate whilst smelling bleach. A big no. Smelt like a swimming pool. 3. There’s a security camera above the mirror as you come in which has a really irritably bright light that shines in your eye if you’re sat opposite it. Comes on periodically. 4. Menus were ripped and scruffy. Wouldn’t cost much to print new menus. 5. Think extra portions of ketchup and mayo should either be free or €1 max (€2 was too much for these basic dips) Food: Chicken tenders were juicy, chips nice and good cornbread (which I hadn’t tried before). Good portion size on the tenders which I have seen previous reviews critiqued. Friend thought the portion size on the classic lady was too small.

We ordered buffalo wings 😮‍💨 didn’t taster like buffalo sauce at all. The homemade ice tea was amazing, I’d go back only for it. The service was not great 😶 the employees seems to hate their job and are not even trying to be polite. They have Wednesday wings, I’ll go for it once and come back to update my review with some pictures

Our server wasn't very polite at all. Instead of asking what kind of sauce or what kind of sides we wanted she just said: sauce... side... My chicken was good, but very greasy. There were dark grease stains on my plate. The lemon pepper sauce was gold! Beautiful after taste to it. And the mac and cheese, it was okay. But I could taste the bechamel and didn't have a cheesy taste to it.

Amazing food, the service was really kind also, the food came quick and hot. Definitely would recommend, come a Wednesday to try the wings.

It's a decent fried chicken. Portions are okay but a bit smaller/less than I expected with the price. Tried the Classic Lady and Tenderoni combos. Mac and Cheese and fries were good. The rice was okay, but a small portion of rice for an extra 5 euros is too much. Also with the sauces that cost extra as well. The staff were accommodating and nice. Overall, the experience was okay. Maybe a try-one-time kinda place.

Not a lot of chicken bars in Amsterdam, didn’t blow me away portions are small chicken tasted okeish. Chicken tenders portion not enough for a grown man for 18 euro. Price quantity ratio a bit off. The cole slaw was not good. The chicken breast did look and tasted ok.

Ordered the big titties, the portion size was fine, but it was dry. Friends had burgers, which were better. We discovered afterward that they'd added a 10% "tip" to the bill without asking or us saying so.

1. Not a busy day, for them, but our order took 20 mins - strange for the fried chicken place. 2. Chicken is moist and tender and coated well. 3. Coleslaw is too rich on sugar and vinegar+lacks blue cabbage

The chicken was tasty, juicy, and well fried! One of the best I have tried in the city. The corn bread was delicious, as well as the mac and cheese. It was busy, but the stuff was attentive.

I was alone and had a late lunch. The terrace was lovely, and there was enough to see to keep me entertained: pre-hipsters, mature hipsters, and over-mature hipsters. It's still the Pijp. Homemade lemonade was good; this way of having a non-alcoholic meal wasn't a bad thing. I ordered the first dish on the menu. It seemed like a modest portion. It arrived after about 10 minutes, and I was constantly helped by the friendliest and truly professional people. That's not the case everywhere. Then there's the food: it's not fast food. These are people who can actually cook, but have chosen to make relatively simple dishes. The chicken (thigh + drumstick + fillet) is soooo juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside, with just the right amount of flavor in every bite. It's done really well. The mac 'n' cheese is creamy and cheesy with perfectly al dente pasta. And the dipping sauce has the perfect acidity and is thin enough to adhere perfectly to the chicken. A real treat. I think I groaned softly. It's great that you see and experience that people are working with skills and pleasure.

It was the worst fried chicken I’ve ever had in my life. The crust was too thick and over-fried, and there was barely any chicken. When you ask for white meat, they give you dark instead

Great food. We visited the restaurant on the recommendation of a hotel employee and were pleasantly surprised. From the outside, we would never have expected such delicious wings, fries, and an excellent burger with mac and cheese. The ambiance is very cozy and simply rustic. One server was a bit too present, which was a bit unusual for us, but overall the staff was very friendly and competent. If we're in the area again, we'll definitely come back.

The poster’s rave review and visuals of crispy chicken and creamy mac and cheese instantly piqued my interest. Fast forward a week later, and I’m on the metro to De Pijp with one goal: fried chicken bliss. Ladybird is just a short walk from the station, easy to find, just around the corner. We were warmly greeted at the door and given the choice between indoor and outdoor seating. Since the patio was already buzzing, we opted for a cozy booth inside. The vibe? Laid-back, welcoming, and full of flavor. The staff is international, super friendly, and made us feel right at home. For drinks, we ordered a Sorrel Spritzer, a Negroni, and a guava margarita (all strong, refreshing, and well-balanced). I went with the Classic Lady, a perfectly seasoned fried chicken trio that hit all the right notes: crispy, juicy, flavorful. My partner ordered the Big Bitties, and let me tell you those golden, crunchy breasts were massive and cooked just right. Slicing into that juicy white meat was peak satisfaction. We even got to meet the owner! Of course, he’s a New Yorker (Brooklyn, stand up!). Humble, down-to-earth, and generous with insider tips on spots to check out in the city. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. If you’re in Amsterdam and craving comfort food with serious soul, Ladybird Fried Chicken is a must. Highly recommend!

The food wasn't fresh, the fries were like double fried, super oil, and the chicken were the same, super oil, like were cooked from the day before.

Popped in on a Saturday for a quick snack and left with a full belly and a story to tell. Apparently, Tyler, the Creator ate here three days in a row — I guess even musical geniuses can’t resist good fried chicken. The manager was super courteous and chatted with guests like we were all old friends. I even overheard him sharing tales of his very first job to a bunch of teenage boys who’d just clocked out at Albert Heijn. Career inspiration and crispy chicken in one go — who knew? The fried chicken was so good, it practically deserves its own record deal. And the Arnold Palmer? Legendary. My daughter loved it so much, she slapped the Ladybird sticker on her study chair — so now the chicken vibes live on in our home office. Highly recommend. Come hungry. Leave with stories (and possibly a sticker collection).

The menu displayed on the windows doesn’t reflect the updated prices. I ordered two drumsticks and some other piece, which was listed for total of €12. I was surprised when the waitress charged €16.50, explaining that ‘everything is now €1 more expensive’ and an additional €1.50 was added for a takeaway box. It felt misleading and not transparent…

As my colleague called it, it's fancy KFC, and it think not significantly better one.

The original recipe chicken is seriously delicious — 100% recommend! The buffalo wings were good, but the buffalo sauce was a bit bland for my taste. Still, great prices and friendly service!

Where do I even begin? The chicken was drier than my love life during exam season. I ordered “crispy” but got something that tasted like it was reheated in a microwave powered by disappointment. Staff looked like they were counting the seconds till the sweet release of closing time. No greeting, no smile, just a dead-eyed “what do you want?” like I interrupted their existential crisis. Fries? Soggy. Coleslaw? Suspicious. Service? Barely present. Vibe? Absolutely feral. I don’t know what kind of bird this was, but it definitely wasn’t a lady. More like a stressed-out pigeon who gave up on life. Save your time, money, and dignity. Go literally anywhere else. Even the gas station chicken down the road deserves a Michelin star compared to this.

Came here for a bite after work. Chicken breasts were tender and came off the bone easily. A nice way to get your proteïn in. Prices were good I’d choose this over kfc any time. Staff is social and fast. I will return for wings wednesdays soon

Hands down the best fried chicken in amsterdam! So definitely also the best fried chicken in the whole of Holland. I tried a lot, because I love fried chicken, and I can say Lady Birds Hotwings are unmatched. I enjoyed every single bite, and wow my it keeps amezing me every single time. I come here every now and then, and will keep coming back! Thera a very nice relaxed and cool vibe, so for a good time and good chicken, this is the place to be!

Typical Dutch thrift and extra natural, you are in Amsterdam. Ordered an IPA? You can count on an extra small glass. The chicken itself was surprisingly juicy and well seasoned. The Brussels sprouts were one of the highlights: excellently prepared, although they could have been cooked just a little longer. The jerk sauce was okay, but in my opinion it could have had a bit more spice or acidity, I missed that real tangy kick. Fortunately, the chicken was worth it even without sauce. Had to wait a while for the chicken, and ended up getting a pizza somewhere else to really get full.

Very tasty chicken, home made cornbread and other sides. We also had the mac & cheese and the coleslaw. Mac&cheese was great! Make sure to bring your appetite.

I think it's sufficient to say that me and my girlfriend were the last ones allowed in at 5pm because they ran out of chicken. This place is amazing and the food is just top notch. The chicken is just so tender and tasty, and the atmosphere is the best.

Shocking owner, who literally says "I don't care about the neighbors". Haven't met such an a-social guy for a long time. Feel really pitty for his direct neighbors, luckely I have a couple of houses in between. Guys throws parties with massive crowds multiple times a year till 4-5pm without a permit. OMG.

A real highlight for all fried chicken lovers! Despite the well-stocked store, we received a warm welcome and were well looked after - the team was exceptionally friendly and attentive, which made the visit particularly pleasant. Since there weren't any free tables, we were allowed to sit at the bar - which turned out to be a real stroke of luck. The IPA on tap was outstanding and paired perfectly with the food. The chicken was freshly prepared, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside – exactly how you want it. Particularly positive is the variety of sauces, which really taste great and give every bite a new note. A thoroughly successful experience with a great atmosphere, first-class food and the best service – absolutely recommended!

The best friend chicken in Amsterdam hands down. Anything in the menu is a great choice and you will want to go multiple times to try anything. Their homemade buffalo sauce makes everything better so make sure to order some too. It’s a must if you live in Amsterdam.

I moved here from Atlanta and never expected to find a fried chicken place that rivals Hattie B's! Delicious fried chicken and a ton of great sides!

Underwhelming alas. Our server was a really lovely young man. It's a tiny place so I get keeping the menu to a minimum. BUT they have decided you can't have red wine. I wasn't impressed with the white wine list. The beer list consists of an IPA (yuk) Leffe (with chicken?) and Budweiser (filthy) but as I don't do sweet, sugary, drinks or spirits it was filthy bud. I ordered the most expensive menu item mainly because it was the only thing with mac and cheese Mac n cheese is separate and unpriced on the menu. Was not clear how to order it (or the price... Anyhoo Piece de resistance - comes with a glass of prosecco (it's OK), truffle mac n cheese and 'caviar' (I do not believe for a second any Russian would call it caviar - it was black roe) and some pink stuff it looked nice with the black roe, tastes OK but there wasn't enough of either to do other than note (niet vies) it was OK. I struggled (joke) with the fact the chicken is de boned. As far as I'm concerned the joy of dark chicken meat is getting messy with the bones. The roasted brussell sprouts were fab we ordered a second portion cos the portions are just sufficient (or not quite) for one - all the sides are 5E I don't know if the two small pieces of cornbread served with my order were the standard size but it was basically cake (to go with chicken - very U.Sainian I guess unlike the portions which are just reasonable. If you had one of the I presume very sweet desserts you should be full.) and the two squares were really small. I know they look generous in the photo but it's the angle The mac & cheese was more creamy than cheesy and most of the truffle flavour was on the lid of the gorgeous little iron pot it was served in. When they brought our meal they put my mac n cheese on my companions plate - didn't say anything. My companion got really upset because it's hard to have something served to you then get told that is not yours, they didn't believe me and insisted that the manager confirm that the dish was mine. She did but didn't apologise for their mistake and was really quite ungracious about it. When we arrived we had wanted to sit upstairs but were told we couldn't because it 'wasn't open' less than 15 minutes later - it was open! So it's pretty steady. The local rozzers were there in force (about 5 of the) getting dinner so it's pretty popular too The chicken is nice but the way it's served it could be frogs legs or snake - you really wouldn't know the difference. It's all about the coating which was crispy and unmemorable - I don't think KFC need worry I don't know if I would go again

Not what you expect, according to the advertising you would expect a nice restaurant, but it is actually a glorified McDonald's, too commercial. A friend of mine also got raw chicken.

Vibes…alright. Playlist? Straight fire, love the mixture between Hip Hop & Soul classics. But the food? It came out quick…but man, this time not it. That chicken had so much oil, the US army was ready to invade any moment, and the cornbread? Dry like it needed a feature just to be edible. If you’re pulling up for the ambiance and drinks, cool.

How they manage to keep the chicken so juicy is an absolute miracle!! The Mac & Cheese is deliciously gooey, but luckily it does not taste or turn chemically yellow/orange. Luv it! I take my first bite of the pecan pie, and I feel hugged by our dear Lord!! Because of the euphoria I spontaneously forget to take a picture of my pie. With some shame, just an “after” photo. They let you eat in peace, or tell you their life story, if you ask. Definitely a tent after my own heart.

OK... Expensive and unfortunately the sides were cold. Cornbread was more like a cake? Otherwise ok.

While the food was quite good, it was incredibly expensive for what it was. A fried chicken sandwich and fries for nearly €20. The serving size though was very fair and the seasoning on the chicken was great! That being said, the restaurant is definitely manipulating the recent takeaway package tax law in the Netherlands for their own gain. Cheating customers is never acceptable, the law clearly states that up €0.50 for an entire meal should be applied when packaging takeaway orders in PLASTIC and that alternative reusable packaging must be offered. One, more than this amount was charged to my receipt; two, none of the packaging was plastic - it was ALL paper and; three, no alternative was offered. It is not about the money, but when you are already charging your customers a premium for your product, to cheat them for an additional gain under the guise of tax law is completely unacceptable.

Amazing portions at good prices. We've had the Tenderoni and the Classic Lady menus and the meat was tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The sides and the sauces are really good and you also get a sweet cornbread. Overall, a great place to eat fried chicken.

Delicious fried chicken 🍗 nothing really to complain about. For two people and some drinks, we paid €45. The order did take a while to get to us. Even people who arrived after us got their food faster than us.

It's my 5th time visiting Ladybird. 1st time was amazing. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th were even better. Their juicy and crispy thighs is my go-to, I dunk them in the General Tso or Jerk sauce, and the world is beatiful. Service always friendly and easy going. The place is nice and cozy, with a view of the street and the Sarphati park. You can also sit by the bar and have a look inside their open kitchen. Special shout out to the playlist. Great choice of music. Groovy, funky, comfortable, just hits the right spot. There is no better fried chicken place in Amsterdam for me. Definetly a 10/10.

I really wanted to like this place because there’s virtually no good fried chicken in Amsterdam, but the chicken was not great (not seasoned very well), and the Mac n cheese was terrible. And the food was not cheap. Unfortunately I won’t come back. Nice staff though.

Visiting Amsterdam from Atlanta, Georgia and stopped in with some local friends. The portions were generous and the execution of the dishes far exceeded our expectations. This restaurant would be very popular back home. Loved the Fungi dish! Staff were very kind and accommodating of our small toddlers. They also have delicious sweet tea with mint and lemon.

The food was mid at most, we were very excited to try the fried chicken burger I wasn’t really sure if it was dark meat I kept finding dark pink in it and didn’t feel comfortable eating it…. The chicken is so oily and fatty The Mac’cheese was also not the best ! However the fries are amazing. “Maybe”we will come back to try to chicken pieces

Southern flavor chicken, great experience, and of curse left over for tomorrow

Chicken sandwich was lukewarm, the wing in my chicken combo was cold. The breast piece is flavorless in the middle. Even Popeyes can do better than that. Ordered brussel sprouts and yam as sides and a small portion of the brussel sprouts were ice cold as well and the yams are not cooked through in the center.

Don't order the large pieces of chicken, they arrived raw inside, they were pink... We only ate the outermost part. The only positive thing is the burger they make, good! Pasta and cheese isn't that great... Overall I recommend it but only for the burger and chicken wings

Always great food. Good restaurant. The only important thing to note is that you cannot reserve online. It's walk-in only. It is therefore advisable to come early in the evening if you don't want to wait that long. The only negative things: -80% of the homemade lemonade was ice cream -a little dark

Good fried chicken place in de Pijp. I’ve ordered the 3 pieces set that comes with a side of your choice (16€) - I would say it’s a fair price for the following reasons: a) it’s 3 pieces but they’re huge & heavy b)choice of sides is good - for example can order mac& cheese if you’re v hungry c) it’s right next to Sarphatipark which became expensive area. Chicken was served hot - could see it was just prepared, coleslaw was good, and service was great. Cornbread was a bit dry and didn’t add much for me. Would also recommend ordering their sweet ice tea - really good!!! I would probably go back when I’m in the area to try some other sides and a spicy version of the chicken as the regular one was a bit too “regular” for me.

Probably the best fried chicken I’ve ever had! I order the breaded wings, fries and 2 pieces of fried chicken on the side (drum and thigh) . The meat was very tender and flavourful, and the breading was crispy and packed with flavour. Great no nonsense food. Will definitely go back

It was ok. I’m from the states and was surprised when the chicken came out very quickly and cold :(. I thought the chicken was gonna be fried in a spicy batter, but came out with tons of spice just dumped on it. The cornbread just tasted like cake. I was really disappointed and too tired to tell them that my chicken was cold. It seems like the chicken was under a food warmer because how could it have come out within 5 minutes of ordering?

Black owned. BEST FOOD IN TOWN!!!! I’m from Texas—- this food is GOOD! I been hungry my whole time here because the food is mid… but this place!!! Heaven sent! I’ll be back when I come back to the country!
