Great place and excellent service. I ordered two ham and cheese sandwiches, and they brought one with pesto and one with ham and cheese. Luckily, I got the pesto one, as my daughter has a nut allergy. After I informed the staff, I promptly received the correct one, and I was even more surprised when I learned that the second sandwich wasn't charged. In short: excellent service and service from this place, highly recommended👌👌👌

The service was incredibly antisocial, and we couldn't even order water. From the very first moment, we were treated negatively. We ordered drinks and food, but we weren't allowed tap water or even glasses. We were then shuffled across two tables, and after 10 minutes, we were angrily sent away because we supposedly didn't want to order anything. The staff also refused to discuss things with me like normal people and were very demeaning. I absolutely wouldn't want to come back here.

I came by today and was treated absurdly rudely and derogatorily. I sat down with some friends and we wanted some water and nachos. They refused the water and demanded that we each have a drink first. We understood that. After finishing our drinks and nachos, we asked for another carafe of water and were refused again. Then a rude employee pointed out that we weren't allowed to order water with our group. We tried to explain our situation and were immediately interrupted by her, saying we weren't allowed to use two tables after being pointed out to us just five minutes earlier. We then decided to leave. Poor and rude service! Don't come back!!!

It was a nice pub on Neude. We only had a few drinks, so I can't comment on the food. It's a nice place with a good atmosphere. We sat inside because the terrace was full, and the fact that it was quieter inside was definitely nice. I have to say, though, that meant you didn't feel the atmosphere as much. I think it was also very quiet inside because the waitress who was inside came by very often. The speed at which we got our drinks was excellent. All in all, a great experience!

The sandwiches are excellent value for money! Friendly staff that works quickly. The only downside is the cappuccinos, although the coffee was good.

Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience. There were three flies in my chocolate milk. When I pointed this out to the staff, they told me to "just remove the flies." I find this completely unacceptable. When I checked out, I reported this again to another employee, but nothing was done about it, and no apology or compensation was offered. Absolutely not customer-friendly service. A photo of the drink has been added.

Sat on the terrace. Enjoyed bitterballen (bitterballen) and nachos... and some drinks. Delicious! The service is friendly and hard-working; it was incredibly busy when we were there! Saturday afternoon. But this wasn't noticeable in the service. Very good! No complaints! Downside: bread with spreads. This isn't good bread. Dry white and brown slices. Beautiful location!

Haven't eaten there but it's my favorite place to chill and have a drink at Neude.

We only had a drink here; we initially wanted to eat something here as well. But that turned out to be a difficult task. After more than 30 minutes of eye contact and hand gestures, we still weren't helped. I'd even say ignored, considering some people had only been there for three minutes and were already being helped. It's a real shame; I wouldn't go back here again; we ended up eating somewhere else.

The gentleman saw my birth date and congratulated me. He deserves a raise.

The food was delicious, we had a fantastic steak with a delicious pepper sauce. The service was very friendly! The bitterballen (croquettes) and sandwiches were very tasty. We even got a free cake! Definitely recommended!

Yesterday I popped into Le Journal again for a cup of coffee and the newspaper. Unfortunately, I left quite quickly this time. The reason: the staff (I was sitting inside) were chatting/making nonsense quite loudly, which I found very disturbing. The calm and cozy atmosphere that usually prevails was gone. There were only two people inside, but even so, I think that's unacceptable. If you're going to make jokes or comments to each other, keep them quiet enough so as not to disturb the guests. I looked up a few times, but unfortunately, this had no effect!

Despite a packed terrace, our orders were quickly taken and served. A perfect skewer of grilled chicken satay with delicious satay sauce and dried onions, served with fries and mayo, prawn crackers, and pickled onions. My daughter thought the bread with the croquettes was a bit dry, perhaps because we were sitting in the sun. The service was very friendly and attentive to the customer.

Good experience with this place, we had a nice meal and the food was quite good, plus there was a good children's menu.

A lot went wrong during the ordering process. We ordered a jug and wanted it again, only with different drinks. We specified this, but received the exact same item. We told them we hadn't ordered it and wanted to exchange it. They found this difficult, but they eventually agreed. We then received a much smaller jug, and we indicated we wanted the same jug with different drinks, but they said this wasn't correct. Annoying.

After having a delicious meal, it was a pity that we could not order dessert.

Nice big terrace, with good staff at an A location. Staff is neatly dressed and we were served nicely by them today. The club sandwich and goat cheese salad went down well. The bill was also quite reasonable. Good place to stop for lunch when you are in Utrecht.

Cosy restaurant with good food. Try the sate.

So far so good. The staff are friendly enough ( Riff especially helping me a lot with ordering) to help you decide on what should you get (especially if you are from southern Europe) but they lack cheese plate and fruit plate to complement wine (depending on what kind you get) almost all the complimentary food starts at 1700 hrs or 5pm. So keep that in mind. Although that being said I like their service and (can be a little late sometimes depending on how crowdy it gets) I will come back to it and with full review on their menu. (This will susceptible to change next time I visit)

Remains a great place to have a drink! Food is tasty, beer menu is fine and the atmosphere remains best on the terrace. Unfortunately you pay for this... But if you can miss it, definitely do it!

Reply to your feedback: It is not true that there was a queue in front of the restaurant. We also didn't move chairs or put tables together. We just sat down – as a family – at three free tables. Each table was used separately. Nothing was changed or changed. If there was indeed a queue, why was it that when we got up, other guests who were neither in line nor assigned by the staff were able to simply sit at the tables? When I spoke to the waitress and asked why these people were now allowed to sit there, I was ignored. I'm definitely not imagining this situation, and it definitely wasn't that we were acting outrageously. The treatment of your manager and the blonde waitress, on the other hand, was simply disrespectful, discriminatory and unacceptable - especially towards children. I'm honestly glad we didn't leave you a cent. If you want to continue to distort the facts, that's your decision - but please train your staff to treat guests respectfully first. If you don't want the job or don't want children in the restaurant, you should communicate this openly instead of treating guests this way. We were three families with children and sat down at free tables - without any indication of reservation or queue. A man who identified himself as a manager immediately came up to us, very rude, and asked us to leave. When we asked, he threatened us in a completely inappropriate way: “Go home or I’ll call the police.” We got up - less than two minutes later the seats were taken by other guests, without registering or queuing. I spoke to a waitress but was ignored and brushed off. We don't know why we were treated this way - but it clearly felt discriminatory. A disrespectful and inhumane treatment of guests. Absolutely no recommendation!

Racism from the manager to the waitresses! You weren't served and were told to get up and leave and were threatened that the police would be called.

Warning: Discrimination at Café Le Journal (20/04/25) On April 20th, 2025, we were asked to leave our table at Café Le Journal without any clear reason – even though we had small children with us. The manager and a waiter spoke to us in a disrespectful, condescending, and clearly racist manner. They even threatened to call the police if we didn’t leave immediately. This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable. We will never return – and we strongly advise others to avoid this place.

The staff at this store is rude and openly racist. It’s clear that not everyone is welcome here, and the attitude is completely unacceptable. I will never come back and strongly advise others to stay away. The staff was unfriendly and dismissive.

It's a pity that the croquettes on bread are served on simple everyday bread. Tea is served in small glasses. Service is fine, atmosphere okay.

I just wanted to have a drink with a friend, but it started with miscommunication: our drinks simply didn't come. After 20 minutes, a waitress finally brought them, but the pattern remained the same: servers were constantly walking in circles, but invariably skipped certain tables or just lingered somewhere. If you want to order something you either have to shout antisocially or walk to the bar yourself. Not really relaxing if you plan to do a few laps. When paying we were also charged an amount that was too high. The server stood there like a lost soul trying to figure out why it wasn't right, and eventually came up with an attitude of "I'll give you that lower amount." No. This has nothing to do with awarding, you are just not doing your job properly. In short: ball tent. We went to the pub around the corner, where the drinks came through quickly and the (justifiably) high bill was correct thanks to the good service.

I regularly come to Neude, but a classmate and I had ordered drinks and we had to wait a long time for the final score. To make long story short, we got our drinks. Then we were waited for over an hour and one of the waitresses moved on to other people. We just wait and wait, no response. It was as if we were invisible. Finally we asked the server if we could have another drink and paid immediately. He said that we had ordered three drinks per person, while we ordered two drinks per person. I don't know why, but for some reason he was confused, like it's a robot vacuum cleaner that doesn't know what to do either🤣😂. In short, we like to serve you well, even if it is busy!

Beautiful authentic building in the heart of Utrecht where you can enjoy delicious breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks all day long. Delicious croissants, smoothies, specialty beers. Too many to mention, you just have to do it. Service is charming, attentive, hospitable. Absolutely recommended.

Café Le Journal is a great place for lunch in the heart of Utrecht, but without any real standouts. The sandwiches are decent, but not special, and the drinks are on the expensive side. The terrace is nicely situated, but the tables are very close together, which makes it less relaxing if you want to sit a bit more quietly. All in all an okay experience, but not necessarily a place you come back for.

This is and remains a truly fantastic place. If you want to have a drink, or just a simple bite to eat, or a drink, then you've come to the right place. It is always busy, which we always find very pleasant. Service is always good. There are enough employees, so they respond very quickly when the glass is empty. In short, experience it. I've been to Le Journal before. I've had dinner, drinks and lunch here a number of times. The atmosphere inside is very nice. Not too loud music, nice staff and nice seating areas. So you can go there for lunch, dinner or a drink. Today I was there for lunch. A goat cheese sandwich with honey and a soup for the person I was with. And both a latte macchiato. I'll definitely come back here again.

On Saturday morning, early, before the entire crowd floods the center of Utrecht, this is the nicest café in Utrecht. Fast and friendly service and delicious coffee.

Mooi gelegen aan Neude, mooi terras. Zaterdag met mooi weer, afgeladen vol, binnen en buiten. Snelle vriendelijke bediening. Beetje uitgebreide lunch. De een sate met frietjes en saus, de ander een twaalf-uurtje (sapje, kroket, gebakken ei ) Smaakte goed, ruim voldoende voor de rest van de dag.

I would like to share my experience in your establishment. Unfortunately, I experienced an unpleasant situation, although the food was extremely tasty. I was asked for my ID after taking a sip of wine at a friend's house, but I didn't have it with me. I was then told I wasn't allowed to drink without ID. Despite this policy, I found it acceptable. However, afterwards I felt repeatedly controlled and watched, and we were ignored when ordering, while being spoken about negatively. This negatively affected my experience. Nevertheless, I must emphasize that the food was very tasty.

Nice terrace spot, but double standards. If you order a 'Spa Red', the management instruction to the staff is that you will receive their own soda water with bubbles. Even the Sourcy on the menu is not offered with the order or delivered. When asked about the vague glass of water, the staff confirms that this is indeed the policy and that this is yet another discussion. According to them, I should have asked for the bottle. No regrets or intentions to exchange their water for an official bottle. When paying, it is repeated that there are, among other things, 2 Spa Roods on the bill. Shame!!!! This was my last time here.

We have been coming here for a number of years for a drink, a platter or a snack. Often it is also followed by a satay with fries. The prices are as you would expect at this location in Utrecht and the staff is mostly friendly. A little more attention when dealing with empty glasses would be fine.

What a crappy place, you're left without a drink for half an hour because the servers are just flirting and talking on their phones. Even if it empties, it still takes forever to get help. Please, walk a little further.

Pub with nice terrace Pub snack was passable, but also too much sweet and sour as so-called vegetables and lots of fries. The disadvantage of this is that the meat remained warm while eating, but the mountain of fries was relegated to a mountain of flour. The balance has been lost... the rock-solid Beef Tenderloin satay therefore lost quality and proportion.

You have to wait a really long time until someone finally helps and serves you. Really annoying. And when you sit on the terrace, it's super cozy, but people just sit next to you and smoke. That ruins my appetite. I think they should abolish that. Why do non-smokers have to sit in the smoke smell if they want to eat something?

Just enjoy a nice beer, a plate of flames or bitterballen.

Delicious lunch on a sunny terrace in a nice location. 12 hours (this time with delicious asparagus soup as soup of the day) and goat cheese sandwich tasted great. Friendly staff and we were served quickly. Recommended!
