Our first meal in Amsterdam was a delightful experience. After checking into our hotel, we sought the concierge’s recommendation for a nearby restaurant that served Dutch or seafood. As a foodie, I always relish trying local cuisine when possible. However, tonight, we had a craving for some fresh fish. The restaurant was conveniently located about a 10-minute walk from our hotel. As the night grew darker, the ambiance of Amsterdam transformed into a cozy and inviting atmosphere. We had made a reservation for 8 pm and arrived promptly. Upon settling in, our waiter promptly presented us with the drinks menu, which was a refreshing departure from our usual experience of receiving everything at once or a single menu encompassing both drinks and food. The food arrived hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. While I enjoyed the prawns, I felt that they could benefit from a bit more seasoning to enhance their taste. Despite this minor oversight, the overall meal was satisfying. The soles were a standout, with both large and small portions offering a delightful experience when accompanied by butter. The side dishes were expertly prepared and complemented the main course perfectly. In conclusion, I highly recommend this restaurant. Not only does it offer a delightful dining experience, but the service is also commendable and friendly.

The best fishmonger around, a beautiful restaurant with a stunning sea aquarium. Very friendly and professional staff. The food is fantastic, with a lovely extensive menu, something for everyone. This time, among other things, sole is back on the menu, and it was a truly large and delicious one. But of course, there are also oysters Florentine and raw. The razor clams were also delicious. Add a fantastic bottle of Chablis and it becomes a wonderful evening. We come especially from Schuedam, and it's always fantastic. Eric and Ruud

This was definitely the best meal we had in Amsterdam. The atmosphere, the service and the super delicious food! We had lobster bisque, octopus, black tiger prawn and catch of the day fish. Everything was fresh and perfectly presented. If we'd stayed in the city for one more day then we will definitely visit this place again!

This seafood restaurant is popular with locals. Everything tastes amazingly delicious. The white fish and oysters were particularly impressive. They go well with white wine. It's not the kind of place where random tourists can just drop in. If you make a reservation online, you can get in, so I highly recommend making one. It's a popular restaurant, so be careful as your order may not be processed during busy times.

The service was a bit off putting at first telling us they they were taking things slow and really don’t want to do quick lunches but then it recovered quickly and the service was very normal and speedy in the best sense. Had the ceviche and the small soles - absolutely top class.

I wanted to try Amsterdam herring. We passed by this restaurant in the afternoon and decided to have dinner there, + other fish restaurants we passed during the day closed earlier. Very warm, friendly atmosphere. Locals with their families were having dinner around, and it was clear that they were regular guests of the restaurant. I really liked this restaurant. The pickled herring was amazing, very tender, slightly salty - just the way I like it. All the other food was delicious too. The price was not cheap, but together with the atmosphere it was worth it. I recommend

You wait for ten minutes at your table for a waiter to hear him saying in a very rude way that the table is reserved, while there’s no reserved sign anywhere. This is ridiculous and disrespectful! This is literally the first time I faced such situation!

Nice ambiance. The oysters were alright, but not very meaty. Our waiter was a joy to talk to! The restaurant itself looks clean and polished.

Had enjoyed the wonderful dinner with- White wine, oysters, lobster, fish soup, mussels, and grilled seafood platter ! In memory of Dolly dog, we brought a puppy to travel with us to comfort our broken heart a little bit! It encountered the waiter told me he likes dog more than people! The thing is the people who love dog would be the nice people!

Lovely food. Great variety in seafood. The staff was very friendly and attentive. It was busy and hence tables quite close but overall atmosphere was relaxed.

We were a table of 3. One intolerant to gluten and an other intolerant to lactose. Both our needs were met without a problem by the staff. Without even asking for alternatives they brought us olive oil as a substitute to butter and good quality gluten free bread. Food was excellent. Thank you for the lovely dinner.

Recommended by The Pulitzer concierge, this seafood restaurant was delicious. We were craving fresh fish simply prepared. We got the mixed grilled seafood with romanesco and the grilled seabreem served on a bed of leeks. The side salad was perfectly balanced and so fresh. Pavlova for dessert. Make a reservation!

We had such a wonderful experience at Lucius! The food was absolutely amazing — every dish was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. Even though they were very busy, they still managed to accommodate us as a walk-in couple without any fuss. I wanted a nice seafood restaurant for dinner when I was in Amsterdam recently, so I asked my Uber driver for a recommendation. He recommended LUCIUS, and let me tell you, he was spot on. Traveling alone, I prefer to sit at the bar and enjoy a nice meal as I'm a little self-conscious when eating alone. My waiter was Nick who was super response and provided excellent service and advice. He also engaged in pleasant conversation and made a point of making my meal memorable. From the appetizer, to the main meal, to dessert, LUCIUS was fantastic! The quality of the Sole (3 pieces) was fantastic, the roasted potatoes and salad were both amazing. Even the ice cream for dessert was tasty and properly portioned. I had a Pomegranate Martini to start, and with dinner, a lovely French Burgundy which cost 7 Euros. That's $10.00! Nick also made a nice nip of tequila, cranberry, and lime. The food, service, cost, wine, dessert were all amazing. The employees care that much. When you're traveling alone for two weeks, a nice dinner at the end of the day makes all the difference in the world.

A little bit away from the tourist flows there is a little hidden gem that a dear Dutch friend introduced me to many years ago. Excellent fish, friendly and fast service in a welcoming environment.

Excellent fish restaurant on the canal bank. We were here on Wednesday evening, so we got in without a reservation. Very friendly staff, delicious food, cozy atmosphere. I confirm the positive reviews of other visitors - this is a very good restaurant for fish dishes and seafood. I definitely recommend visiting.

If you are a seafood lover, come here! Although the Irish oysters were average, the lobster bisque was above average and then the grilled fish was so over the top good, that I give Lucius a 5 star rating. The tuna , salmon , prawns and baby sole were perfectly prepared to be tender and delicious without the aid of any sauce necessary. I highly recommend Lucius, especially for the fish.

This restaurant is truly amazing! The outdoor environment is very comfortable and the indoor atmosphere is also very good, which is very suitable whether you want to relax or enjoy delicious food. The waiters were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The meals are even more delicious. The cooking method is simple but can bring out the original flavor of the ingredients, especially the fish soup, which is definitely a big surprise and highly recommended! Super friendly service. Came here for late lunch. Seafood was excellent. Happy with lobster bisque and tuna sandwich. Brand of the Still water is soo good, extra point.

We arrived late and without a reservation, it was full, but they made a place for us and took great care of us. The place was clean and the food was excellent, the grilled salmon and sea bass were also very good. The dessert was the only thing that was average for our taste, but it was very well done, we just didn't like it. I think it's called affogatto or something like that.

We were really looking forward to our visit to Lucius in Amsterdam, but it turned out to be a very unpleasant experience. As a family with young children, we felt extremely unwelcome from the moment we walked in. The staff were noticeably unfriendly and showed absolutely no understanding or patience for the simple fact that kids are kids – lively, curious, and sometimes a bit noisy. Instead of being met with kindness or even basic courtesy, we received annoyed looks and passive-aggressive remarks throughout our meal. It made the whole experience very uncomfortable. To make things worse, the food didn’t live up to the expectations either. The lobster was served cold and lacked flavor – not what you’d expect from a dish at this price point. I haven’t felt this unwelcome in a restaurant in a very long time. Definitely not a place I would recommend for families – and honestly, there are many better spots in Amsterdam with both better food and a more respectful atmosphere.

The room is very pretty and the staff impeccable, however the cuisine was sorely lacking in flavor and the quantities could have been a little more generous.

This time I picked up a seafood platter here. The fact that the order was not ready for me after I had to indicate in advance what time I would arrive was still up to that point. But the contents were also very disappointing: no razor clams, no whelks, no prawns, no butter. It was all on the menu, but not on my platter. So I feel cheated, especially for that price (€75). Never again, it has become a tourist trap.

At first we went to the other famous restaurant nearby, but it fully booked, the manager said they also go here to buy fish, so recommend us to eat here. The bread with butter excellent, following dishes is amazing. Would say better than other hot seafood places. Very tidy and clean place, cute beautiful fish tank.

Lucius was disappointing, the tables are nicely set, just a shame about the battery-powered candle, which would really add more atmosphere. Oysters good, but the fish soup is bad. Clear broth with a few pieces of fish placed in it. This is not a thick soup, so it has no taste. A miss in a fish restaurant! Wines by the glass are absolutely nothing special and a buttery chardonnay is missing. The Dorade is slightly overcooked, but the fried potatoes in particular are terrible, they seem to come straight from the fryer, that has nothing to do with frying. The curly-haired boy serving is clearly not looking forward to it all and would be better off getting out today, bad for the business. The lady does her best, but the kitchen misses the mark too often. Shame!

the food was terrible, i took french fries soup and tuna and my wife also took tuna. the soup felt like it was made from a ready-made soup cube and the tuna was overcooked although i asked for medium doneness i waited 47 MINUTES for the potatoes and they didn't even give me sauce and in general we waited 74 minutes for the food but the interior is very beautiful although old we asked for ginger tea we clarified and we were told that there would be a teapot and instead of a teapot they brought us a cup with a whole piece of uncut ginger because of which you can't taste the ginger at all considering all this, i think my assessment is objective

I went to this restaurant several years ago and was blown away by the typical Dutch cuisine. This has now changed and although the food is ok it is nothing to write home about. Classic cuisine without originality. Good but nothing special except perhaps the octopus entrance which tantalized the pupils.

I went to Lucius Restaurant recently and it was outstanding! The concierge at The Pulitzer Hotel said it was his favorite seafood venue in Amsterdam. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Immaculately clean and beautifully decorated with an amazing salt water fish tank built into the wall, the venue is relaxing and welcoming. The menu is extensive and offers a variety of fresh fish and shellfish. The gracious host offered advice to help me narrow my choices to only three items for this visit. I enjoyed a half dozen clams followed by the lobster bisque and finally a fish entree. Each course was perfectly prepared and presented. I accompanied my meal with a sparkling white from the Netherlands which was excellent. Hats off to Lucius Restaurant! I can’t wait to go again.

Great fresh seafood with original twists, extensive drink list, warm and friendly service in a nice neighborood, without forgetting the impressive exotic aquarium, I can only recommend this place.

The food was phenomenal, refreshing and the kitchen looked spotless. Well curated seafood menu. I ordered the oyster florentine, raw oysters, the scallops and the octopus with chorizo. It paired very well with champagne. The servers need a bit of refinement but nonetheless it was a positive experience.

Mixed. Meal as a couple on a Friday evening in January. Professional welcome (and very friendly follow-up from the waitress who was in charge of the room), friendly and fitting setting, we are in a fish restaurant. We opted for the Lucius seafood platter (135 euros for 2 people) with lobster (Canadian), razor clams (the sand bag was not removed), cockles, clams, mussels, shrimp, langoustines, claw of crab (meat). grainy and spongy, as if it had undergone accelerated and too brutal defrosting), king crab claws (ditto) and fine crabs (small for the number 3). Well you will have understood, rather divided on the quality of the products served, we did not have a bad time, but half of the elements on the tray seemed to us...not very corresponding to the asking price We opted for a white wine from Maastricht, also a little expensive in terms of value for money, 50 euros per bottle for a wine, let's say....young, green and unfinished, but it was we who chose. It’s our responsibility now, we wanted to be curious. Add a bottle of water and you arrive at an evening at 190 euros, a little excessive for the general quality of the meal, the tray therefore not being at the level of its price. Not a disaster but not at the expected level of quality, too bad, the promise was great!

As a local this is my favourite fish restaurant of Amsterdam (and I have tried them all!). Food is delicious (try their seaweed salad, bisque and fruits des mer) wine selection is perfect (also make great cocktails), restaurant is really cosy (tables at the aquarium are the best with the whole cast of Nemo swimming by) and the staff is always friendly and on top of their game. In Spring/Summer their terrace is perfect for people watching. Can't recommend this place enough!

We had the scallops and tuna, and both were incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared. The staff was friendly, attentive, and accommodating, which made the experience even better. It’s a great spot for a relaxed and charming date night. We were able to get same-day reservations, but it was a Monday in December, so it might be busier during peak times. Recommend

Don't go if you have small children because they have nothing, and children are not welcome. Pay close attention to the receipt, especially if you are a tourist. High prices ,medium quality unwelcoming service

Long story short octopus made me projectile vomit within an hour of eating literally one bite of it. Mgr (Nick) was defensive, combative, and didn’t even want to give his name bc he knew I was writing this review. Helen was Dope. Nicki was Ok till the end. Would write more but I’m exhausted from being physically ill multiple times.

This restaurant was not worth they hype. We got the Lucius plate and the smoked eel. The Lucius seafood was prepared ahead of time and was all cold. The clams were almost uneatable. The shrimp and snow crab were okay. The other crab (Rock Crab??) was not cleaned and when I cracked the shell I got sand and mud in meat. The eel was good, but not with the cost. Go somewhere else, or at least pick a different meal. Maybe their most expensive meal is not their best.

The scallops as a starter lack a snack at the end of cooking to make them golden and the small soles lack a brown butter to prevent them from drying out during the meal... I know that if I died today, I mean if I actually walked outside of this restaurant and got hit by a car and died and I would be so happy to have this as my last meal. Hopefully, I live a lot longer though, and I die in my sleep and I get to come here once a week for the rest of my life.

We have had dinner two days in a row because we liked it a lot. Considering that we are in Amsterdam and the food is not the best here, this restaurant has good fish, well cooked and the service is excellent. Highly recommended. We will return.
