Lucy Lou Taco's & Tequila in Wijk 06 Binnenstad

I don't feel like typing a whole story, so here's a brief summary: You enter past a "please wait here" sign, but no one comes. We ordered a vegetarian platter to share, but received meat twice. The waitresses were constantly on their phones behind the bar and were super slow. I must say, though, that they were short-staffed. They forgot our drinks and it took two hours before we received our second course. Very expensive for what you get, though the food is fine. They were nice in themselves, plus there was a nice atmosphere.

Margaritas and micheladas are great 👌🏻

Unfortunately, a very disappointing experience at Lucy Lou. We arrived around 4:50 PM for a three-course dinner and had to be at an event by 7:00 PM. We therefore wanted to leave around 6:30/6:45 PM, which seemed like plenty of time to us. We received our starter around 5:15 PM. At 6:00 PM, we still hadn't received our main course and indicated that we really had to leave around 6:30 PM. We were assured several times that it was on its way and that everything would be fine. Ultimately, we didn't receive the main course until around 6:30 PM. We then immediately asked if the desserts could be prepared in advance and possibly taken along. At 7:00 PM, we still hadn't received anything. We were told it would take another five minutes. When I then went to the bar myself to ask if the desserts had been made at all, it turned out they hadn't even been prepared yet. We ultimately had to leave without dessert and arrived late for our event anyway. Furthermore, after our first drink, no one came by to ask if we wanted another drink. The main explanation given was that it was very busy. But a restaurant literally opposite TivoliVredenburg, right in the middle of Utrecht, surely should be prepared for a busy Saturday night. Especially when you are also accepting reservations for three-course dinners at that time. I found the communication the most annoying. If they had honestly told us at 6:00 PM that it wasn't feasible, we could have made our own choice. Instead, we were repeatedly told that everything would be fine. We received no appropriate compensation from the restaurant for the undelivered desserts; only a discount on our drinks. Fortunately, Social Deal did resolve this properly with us afterwards. The food we did receive was fine, but in terms of planning, service, and communication, it was truly substandard.

Saturday, Sept 12, 7:00 PM. The food was really good, but that was the only downside. Drink after 30 min Sorry, your order didn't go through properly. Apologetic drink after 49 min Everywhere around you, everyone is waiting in a packed restaurant with 1 behind the bar and 2 1/2 for the whole place, so waiting.... Starter after 74 min, bizarre. The staff has learned to serve a table and switch off the helicopter view, and not look around the place at all the customers who wanted to order something. It's a bit sad, but oh well, that's probably the owner who doesn't have the staff in order. Starter finished within 15 min and main course 1 minute later, and during the main course the dessert also arrived, which was placed on the empty table next to it. We wanted to leave after 2 1/2 hours, but the bill didn't come either, and after waiting at the bar for 15 minutes, I had to pay the English-speaking staff. Food 5 stars, the rest 0 stars

We had a reservation at 18:30 on a Saturday. Our order was taken approximately 30 minutes later. The drinks and the starters came 30 minutes after our order. I have a severe shellfish allergy so I asked for a starter with no They had to prepares the CAMARONES with no shrimp. It was prepared so awfully. It had thumb size chopped onions. They did not care about the customer’s happiness. The restaurant was packed and everyone was waiting for food like us. No food coming out at all. The salon supervisor did not care at all as well. She asked 2 hours in İf everything was ok. She had no clue if the food was out for the tables and who was waiting for how long. We got our main in the 2nd hour. Our appetite completely lost. The kitchen team was very bad it was obvious there was no chef. We asked for our dessert to go because we need to catch the train. We aldo asked for side of fries which was still not prepared while we ate our main in the 2nd hour. They put icecream in a to go dessert… the only positive thing was the young gentleman serving us. He tried to make our food come so we could catch our train. This was a completely awful dinner which was supposed to be a celebration dinner for us.

We were a group of four for drinks, and our drink suggestions were taken on board by Agata, whom we warmly recommend :) We'll have to come back next time to try the food, as the drinks were very good. The place itself also has a great atmosphere.

I’m Mexican and I went to have dinner on a Friday, I must say that the place is beautiful inside, I liked every detail of it, it’s nice to have such a place in Utrecht that reminds you of Mexico. I really liked the birria and barbacoa tacos, also the quesadillas! And Micheladas were very nice 👌🏽. Finally, I don’t need to travel all the way to Amsterdam for getting Mexican food and drinks! Thank you so much for the amazing service and atmosphere guys. Will come back for sure. P.S.: Really nice touch that you play Latin music. The icing on the cake :) P.S.: For customers, real Mexican tacos are meant to be small, that’s a real taco! 😅

Good Mexican for the Netherlands.

My partner and I came here expecting to enjoy some nice Mexican food, but the experience was a total disappointment. - The food: It took forever to arrive (about 20–25 minutes). It was completely bland and tasted nothing like actual Mexican food—honestly, a boiled egg has more flavor! On top of that, the presentation was zero percent Mexican. -Price & Quantity: At around €30 a plate, the quality and portion sizes were a massive letdown. -The service: The staff members are friendly, but they are clearly understaffed and can't keep up. I had to wait about 15 minutes just to place our order. -The atmosphere: The only saving grace is the ambiance; the restaurant is quite spacious and has a nice vibe. In conclusion, I would not recommend this restaurant at all. Considering the flavor, the price, the wait times, and the food portions, for all these reasons, it is absolutely not worth it.

Wow, I was very surprised by how I immediately felt like I was in Mexico when I walked in, not because of the language but because of the warm atmosphere I experienced from the staff and the hospitality. The drinks are amazing; if you’ve ever been to Mexico, you know what I mean. The micheladas are truly top-notch!! Additionally, the way they are eager to ask if things can be improved, etc., I think that is a really great quality and shows that they truly want to bring it to perfection for both connoisseurs and non-connoisseurs. My compliments to Agata and Malin!

The food was only mediocre. The starter was fine. The beef fajita was very dry and overcooked. The chicken fajita, on the other hand, was fine. Dessert was a disappointment. The churros tasted like something else had been in the same fryer, and the lava cake was overcooked and dry inside. All in all, I would not go here again.

Sensacional!!!!! The drinks are to die for and I had the best tacos and jalapeño peppers ever. Marie and the bar tender were exception in their service, they provided good assistance with choosing both the food and drinks. One of the best dining experiences I’ve had so far.

We came in late after an event at the Tivoli. Agata, the maitre-d, went out of her way to accommodate us despite the kitchen closing down and code red temps putting the kitchen staff on edge. The tacos were spot on, and quesadillas were perfect. All accompanied by tasty margaritas- we recommend the spicy one. I will be back! Mostly because the staff made me feel like they cared about my evening being a good one. Good service is an art. Thank you.

You would think Mexican cuisine is quite simple. Well, not for this restaurant. It takes a very long time to get your food or drinks. Furthermore, it isn't very tasty either. Very disappointing.

Absolutely terrible experience. We came for a prepaid three-course meal, arrived on time, showed our reservation and proof of payment, and then spent over 40 minutes waiting just to place our order. After another 40+ minutes, food finally arrived, only for us to discover they had skipped the appetizers and brought the main course instead. The waitress admitted she had entered the order incorrectly but then tried to tell us we were "lucky" because we got food quickly. At that point, we had already been sitting there for around an hour and a half. We never received the appetizers or prepaid shots that were included in the package. My main dish was so salty it was inedible and had to be sent back. No replacement was offered. The cheesecake and drinks were good, but that was the only positive. To make matters worse, they then tried to charge us for the mains, desserts, and two rounds of drinks (despite one round being promised as complimentary), while completely ignoring the fact that we had already prepaid for a menu that included appetizers, mains, desserts, and shots, two of which we never even received. One of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. Avoid if you value your time, money, or a pleasant evening.

We had a delicious meal; many different appetizers were placed on our tables at a rapid pace. Followed by plenty of tequila.

The food is fine, however, it takes an enormous amount of time before you receive anything. The wait staff keeps saying it will be here soon, but that is of course nonsense. After 1.5 hours, we have only received the starter....

Slow!!!!!! We were there at 17:00 with 5 people, including 1 child; at 18:30, only 1 correct order had come out.

As a solo traveler, you are seated here on a stool by the entrance with your nose pressed against the window. For a meal and a drink costing over 30 euros, I expect more comfort, especially since the place wasn't completely full. I asked if I could sit somewhere else, but according to the staff, that wasn't an option. What a shame!

Had a very bad experience here. We waited over 45 minutes for our order, even though it wasn't busy. Apparently, the order hadn't gone through; I had to chase it up myself. No one came by to ask. Even asking for the receipt took fifteen minutes, after which I chased that up myself as well. And I didn't even get any compensation or anything. Truly by far the worst service I have ever experienced. Not recommended!!

It’s okay, not super authentic but also not Tex Mex :) normally very friendly staff

Mediocre. They serve what Dutch people think Latin American food would be like. If you're Dutch, it's probably fine. Jalapeño poppers with sweet and sour dip, chicken wings with American barbecue sauce. Tasteless guacamole. And, whatever you do, don't order the ceviche (at least not if you ever had real ceviche). Overcooked shrimp in lime juice concentrate. The quesadillas and burritos were tasty. Service is friendly and the location is "gezellig" enough. Given the quality, it's ridiculously overpriced, but comparable to dozens of other places like this. Typical Dutch restaurant that puts more effort into decoration and "concept" than actual cooking.

Cannot recommend. Had a quesadilla and it tasted like canned vegetables slapped on a tortilla. We were also subtly aware to leave at around 10.30PM on a weekend when the places closes after midnight.

If you're looking for a cozy atmosphere and delicious food, this is the place to be. It was another fantastic evening with my friends. A huge thank you to the waitresses who made it possible for us to sit down without a reservation last Friday. See you next time! Esther,

The food was amazing and the service was even better. The wait times were a bit long which is expected because its a friday night but our waitress ( Marie, i hope im spelling it right lol ) was the best. When our food took a bit long to come she’d make sure we’d get it and her service was amazing. I’d come back just for her service!!❤️

The food is good! Lots of choices and things to share, which is really nice. The service is also very friendly. It was busy and there were only two of them, so it might have taken a little longer than usual, but that wasn't too bad. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a great atmosphere! The only downsides are that the wine glasses weren't very clean, the toilets were dirty, and there were sauce splatters all over the walls by the table...not very pleasant to look at while eating.

We really enjoyed our evening at Lucy Lou !! The food was really good and the Service was awesome & really friendly. It was really busy and there wasn’t many staff but it was barely noticeable. Agatha (hopefully didn’t spell it wrong) was so sweet and made it a really enjoyable night. Will definitely return. 💚

The food was very flavorful just like the drinks. However the toilet situation at the moment is really bad, so I cannot give 5 stars. If it improves, I will definitely change my review in the future.

The food was ridiculously expensive and took forever. The service was incredibly rude and completely incomprehensible. I was eating here with a group of friends, and they didn't understand a thing. Drink rounds also took at least half an hour. It was expensive and unsociable.

Great place. Edit: Unfortunately, with all the changes in management and staff, it's not as enjoyable anymore. The bar closes early because people aren't in the mood, the service is disinterested, and the tequila selection has shrunk.

Went on a Saturday & we did reserve a table. Atmosphere is great. Energetic but cosy. Fun music, fun lighting and you can still understand eachother clearly even if it's busy. Didn't see any mice 🤭 Service was alright though we did get asked multiple times if we wanted to order when we already did but I suppose that's better than getting ignored lol The food... well, at least for Saturday evening you are definitely paying more for the atmosphere. The frozen daiquiri was more of a frozen appletini. Still tasted good though. The tacos are very small (even for tortilla standards) so don't get these if you want a meal. It was more of a bite. Both the pork of the el pastor and the shrimp were very dry. We even ordered quesadillas after sharing fries and having our tacos because we were still hungry. I did enjoy the barbacoa quesadillas more than the tacos. I also do recommend the chili cheese fries, those were probably the highlight 🫢 For the prices however... well, I guess it's what to be expected of the city but 13€ for small tacos was painful.

We had made a reservation but arrived way too early, but that wasn't a problem. It quickly became very busy for a Wednesday. The two girls serving were very friendly. The kitchen looked clean, and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back.

It looks like a really nice place, the staff is friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, although it gave me an upset stomach for several days. Also, they have mice that seem very comfortable around the customers. And they were even walking under the chairs, where they keep the beer bottles! It's a very nice place, but there are things that could be improved.

Can confirm with the other reviews. Place is infested with mice. Once there were less people at the tables left, the mice started to appear. They seemed very comfortable too when I was trying to shoo them away. Also what kind of restaurants deposits boxes with beer bottles and drink bottles in general under the seats? Noticed that when the mice were running on the floor and and under the tables. Overall the service was good, it's definitely too expensive though. My partner probably got a bit of Jerry's touch in her burrito, she got sick the next day.

A charming little place that can't live up to its looks in terms of food and service. The waitstaff isn't sharp, tables remain uncleared, and empty plates are left standing even though they do come to our table. We ordered a bottle of water twice, which was on the bill but never arrived. And when we finished our meal, a mouse scurried through the restaurant under our feet. Lucy Lou has her work cut out for her!

Food is quite good, not the most traditonal mexican food but it passes. The sauces are awsome and they do make a killer Margherita!

The atmosphere inside is cozy, and the service was excellent. But the food is definitely not authentic Mexican. Carrots and peas in a burrito? A salad with popcorn? It's also a shame that the (cheaper) drinks and soft drinks aren't on the menu. All in all, it's an okay place, but it lacks the wow factor. I might come back for a drink, but not for more.

What a great place! Great find, good tacos, service could have been a bit better, but the food did arrive quickly! The restaurant's appearance makes you feel like you're stepping into Mexico. I just missed the beach and the sun... I left the restaurant and it started raining, which wasn't so great. All in all, a great evening!

Strange that a restaurant on a Friday night stops serving food at 21:30. Had this experience this week and last week on a Friday & Saturday night(wk 35 & 36) . Considering there are limited Mexican restaurants in Utrecht this rather disappointing. Last week they stopped serving due to a staff party and this week they provided no reason as to why. Other restaurants in Utrecht serve till 22:00-23:00.

Nothing extraordinary, typical commonly known Mexican food like tacos. I found the prices a bit high.

Don’t go here. The place is invested with mice! We were halfway through our dinner and saw the mice running near our feet. Lost our appetite and didn’t want to toch the food that just came to our table anymore .. if there are that many I certainly believe they are in the kitchen too. We told the waitress that we didn’t want to eat anymore because of the mice. She only apologized and asked if we wanted to take the food in goodie bags. Because we were stressed we said yes, should have said no. No compensation, paid the full price! Never going there again.

Can‘t recommend at all. They almost had no cocktails that were on the menu, portions are super small and way to expensive. Nachos were to dry and guacamole not good at all. We even saw four mice on the floor, but apparently there is nothing that can be done about it, as they told us. Really bad customer service as well.

Op de kaart staat dat ze glutenvrije opties hebben, maar er zijn maar 2 keuzes zonder risico op kruisbesmetting. Alle andere keuzes op de kaart hebben altijd kruisbesmetting. Daarom hebben we hier niet gegeten en zijn we ergens anders geweest. Bediende heeft er ons wel goed op gewezen en begreep onze keuze om ergens anders naartoe te gaan.

Super leuke sfeervolle plek. Erg attent personeel en een grote variatie aan tequila en mezcal, personeel wist hier veel over te vertellen!

Went with a group of 5 and all of our food came out at different times. One order was wrong so had to be remade. We got charged for the wrong order as well as the right one even though we didn’t get to keep the food. We ordered dessert, waited 20 minutes, and they had forgotten about the order.

Nachos to share as a starter and both a different burrito, one with chicken and one with beef. There was no room left for dessert :) Until next time!

Came here on a very busy Saturday with my family while visiting utrecht. The service was wonderful and the waitress was very friendly and spoke fluent English. Very attentive. I got the pork tacos and my dad got the beef burrito and tequila shots with beer. Everything was wonderful, 100% recommend.

One of our drinks had a mosquito in it. It was quickly replaced by the helpful staff only for us to realise that the drink quantity had been reduced. This was also addressed by them after we raised it. We later realised that our other drinks were also served in reduced quantity compared to other patrons with the same drinks. We did not flag this last element to the staff. Finished our drinks and left right away.

We went there with a group of friends and we ate chicken kinds but like we felt like they are getting their meat from Jumbo or AH or something it is not nice at all and our friend made the reservation and he said sorry like it was not like this before, but we agreed that we won’t go there again

I am giving this review because of the food, there was really a little hope in me and I didn't want to believe the reviews but the food has been so, so bad that I don't want to think about the red room that I have tried, the quesadilla didn't even have cheese, the tacos are a joke, super small and cold and above all I didn't like that they put pickles on the barbecue..... It really can't be called a Mexican restaurant if they are not respecting the flavors of Mexico.

Really tasty food. A bit expensive for the portion size. But it was real Mexican food. Staff is friendly. But the place is in desperate need of a deep clean. Clean the walls and display bottles in the first area. Remove the boxes and clean the tables and lights!

People and overall ambience is fine, however the food is horrible. Went for the tacos that were made likely the day before. The meat was dry and hard. Overall taste bellow average and don’t recommend. However the drinks are quite decent.

The food was inconsistently tasty. My girlfriend had tasty veggie tostadas, but my beef tacos were not tasty. It was more of a soup with tacos thrown in it. Service was just bad. We were forgotten as we sat right in front of the kitchen. We received our drinks 45 minutes after arrival. And my food order was gone while my friend had her food for 10 minutes. Staff were often chatting at the bar so everything was quite frustrating. Atmosphere is fine, but could be a lot cleaner (lots of plaque, dust).

De inrichting vonden wij erg leuk. Personeel is heel aardig en snel. De taco's en enchiladas waren goed op smaak. Cocktails waren ook goed. We zijn in Mexico geweest en het kwam zowaar redelijk overeen. Leuk restaurant om een hapje te eten, voor echt lang tafelen is dit niet de perfecte plek.
