It was truly a great experience, delicious food, good and friendly service and a nice atmosphere, highly recommended!

We had a delicious meal through Social Deal. The portions were truly ample, the food was tasty and beautifully presented. The service was excellent, friendly, and helpful. The decor is nice, though a bit noisy at times, but that's due to the guests. The photo shows fajitas in the foreground and enchiladas behind them. One tip: be aware of the rather high step when entering (and leaving); a yellow marker would be a good idea!

I've had the worst experience ever with a restaurant. The food was terrible. Zero taste, rice was cold (probably frozen before). Poor presentation. I can easily make 100x better at home. The service was bad as well. It seems they are hardly trying to kick out the guests.

Delicious food and highly recommended

I got the Spicy Salmon without the beans, which made it five tortilla chips with a piece of salmon. I really wanted the cod, but it was out of stock. So I went for the vegetarian option, which was unfortunately very bland. The jalapeños were the only flavor. The edge of my brownie was burnt, and even though I removed it, it didn't improve the final bite. The lemonade was good, though, and the waitress was super friendly.

We have been there 2 years ago and everything was good. Thats why we decided to come back for a dinner this time but it seems something has changed. Our food was tasteless and the meat in the burger was already 4 times dead cooked

OH MAN.... THE CLASSIC MARGARITA!!!!!

The place looks very nice, and I've had a few good meals in the past. Unfortunately, I fell into a Social Deal trap, where the owner only thinks about offering the lowest possible quality. The waitress indicated that offering three courses for a low price was the most important thing. They skilfully stripped this down, something even a gas station would be jealous of. The dishes were truly minimalist, lacking any flavor or spice besides the cheese and jalapeño peppers. The burrito was truly pitiful, half-filled, and completely tasteless. Even for a Social Deal, every euro was too much! After the main course, we decided to pay, cut our losses, and definitely won't be back. Also, a tip: clean and replace the bottles; they were incredibly dirty. This is incredibly poor advertising for your business, and a real shame because of the attractive appearance.

Ate here through a social deal. The food was okay, but not authentic at all. Dutch-style Mexican, which means bland flavors and no real Mexican flavors at all. Even Taco Bell is better than Popo these days. But even better, go to a real Mexican restaurant, which is also in town. I don't recommend this place. The lemonades were good, though.

2nd visit June 2025: Another great visit here. Delicious nachos, wings, enchilada and fajitas. 1st visit September 2023: Great food, super atmosphere, friendly service. It was very busy and we chose to take a small bar table for some snacks and drinks, rather than take up a dining table. The quesadias and chicken wings were fantastic. The Mexican Margarita was delicious!

We found this place by chance as the other restaurant we had booked wasn't great. We were impressed as the food was really nice and the drinks too. Highly recommend and it is now our safe spot when visiting Utrecht!

It had been a while since I had eaten here, but I was very disappointed about the quality that had clearly deteriorated. The menu is limited and not very authentic. What surprised me most was that we got the "salsa" with our nachos in a cardboard container, apart from the fact that there was little sauce, the paper container made the sauce just run through the soggy bottom. The food was fine but the price-quality ratio is not worth it to me.

The food was made from good quality ingredients, and everyone was friendly but it wasn't authentic and really lacked seasoning or spices. Also, it was very very loud.

Nachos with pulled pork: quite small and didn’t have much pulled pork. Cocktails quite expensive for the size. Enchiladas with carne estofada: super good!

We used to really enjoy visiting this restaurant in Haarlem, so we were excited to try the Utrecht location hoping for a similar experience. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet our expectations. The food didn’t seem fresh—more like it had been reheated—and the burger tasted like a cheap frozen patty with a dry bun. Service was okay, but could have been warmer and more attentive. A bit disappointing overall.

After more than 40 years, I visited Pocacapettie in Utrecht again. As far as I can remember, the same quality and originality of the delicious Mexican dishes.

Delicious food in a pleasant, busy restaurant

My favorite place to go for enchiladas. Whatever filling you chose, it always comes fantastic. Additionally, they have great moctails.

The place was very busy so if you go you should definitely make a reservation ahead of time. The food was good, the cocktails were great, and the service was exceptional, largely because of Catalina's positive attitude, flexibility, and desire to assist in the best way possible. We had a very enjoyable dinner thanks to her!

The best food we had were the starters. The main dishes were quite bad. We had the bacalao and shrimps enchiladas, and they were quite bland. For this quality, the food is way overpriced, and the drinks menu doesn’t come with a price, so they can overcharge you at the end. Overall quite a disappointing experience that makes me wonder if the good reviews are written by people that are not familiarised with Mexican food.

I must say that it has been 15 years since I regularly ate here. We went back together again last week via Socialdeal, but absolutely everything has changed. In the past you couldn't make a reservation and the restaurant was packed with all kinds of Mexican stuff, you couldn't get enough of it. The food was deliciously authentic and spicy. Now it is a stylized, so-called hip restaurant and the food is bland, soggy and just not tasty. First we received the wrong card instead of the sun social deal card. I ordered the burritos with stew, they used to be tasty, full of seasoned stew. Now I got 2 burritos filled with vegetables and stew in a watery sauce, they don't make it spicy anymore because of the "Dutch taste" and I got a basket with bottles of Tabasco to make it spicy myself. The Pina Coladas were "out", the staff was friendly, but for me a disappointment, I won't go there again; very sad.

Popocatepetl (Popo Utrecht) is an absolute delight! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Food was fine, fresh and of good quality. Could just be a bit spicier and spicier.

The chicken of the Pollo fagitas had a lot of fat and the tortillas for the fagitas and burritos were so cheap quality, the service was really slow, the salt shaker got broken on one of the dishes and the waiter didn’t care to help fixing it or anything, we needed to separate the salt from the food as much as possible. First waiting 45 minutes even though you had a reservation, then things didn't go very smoothly and portions weren't great. Could have cooked better at home for such a price.

An excellent Mexican restaurant, despite the crowds, excellently hospitable service. Is a card with a little bit of everything, everything of high quality. Also tasty desserts. I also liked that frijoles were served. Reservations recommended.

A nice Mexican food place near center of Utrecht. Margaritas were a treat. We tried the mezcal and the traditional. The mezcal margarita had a smoky flavor 😋. We split the snack platter and barbacoa between the two of us and ended with the churros. It was just right.

The exterior does not do justice to the interior of the restaurant. It was busy during our visit. Very busy. We were 9 people. Once at the table, we were quickly helped by a beautiful lady who knew her stuff. The food was served quickly. It took a little longer for the drinks to be served. There was only 1 person behind the bar and he was also making delicious cocktails. He could have used some help. Delicious food.

Good food, price quality very good! Went for dinner twice, and were helped very well by 2 girls. Service creates a good atmosphere and faster satisfaction. You don't often see anymore where all servers are friendly. All in all a good place with good food

The place is nice, it has several vegetarian dishes and some can be ordered vegan. The food was good but I didn't love it.

The food was very good and tasty. For our liking the food came too fast and everything followed quickly. We had 3 plates in 1 hour.

We booked two 3-course meals through Social Deal (which means you get a selection of courses for a fixed price, excluding drinks and extra costs). The chicken wings starter was quite good, it was tasty but a little dry. The nachos were decently tasty but the plating did not allow easy and even eating, also it was somewhat low on meat quantity. As main course I had Pollo Picante, the flavor was good but again kinda dry, nice sides dishes though. The enchilada chicken was tasty but if you don’t like too much clumps of cheese it might be to overwhelming and the dish had a lot of bell pepper pieces (paprika), the rice side dish was kinda boring and dry (wasn’t very clear what part to eat that with). The drinks (pina con menta and Cuba Libre) were just okay, the pineapple drink was full of mint pieces that it was hard to drink without having leaves. The Cuba Libre was supposed to be Coca cola based but the taste of alcohol was a little too heavy. For dessert (churros and cinnamon ice cream) it had its good and lesser parts. Churros and vanilla ice cream were tasty but the chocolate sauce was not. The cinnamon ice cream was tasty but the red fruit was like a liquid sour jam. Then finally the service, unfortunately I might have caught them on a bad day. We were sat kind of hidden so this whole area did not get attention as needed. As for how we experienced it, sometimes she was at a table next to us but didn’t check on us, sometimes she’d look at our food while we were clearly finished and didn’t take it. Her attitude was not friendly more judgmental and quick. In the end they made a mistake on the bill and they were not considerative when I mentioned it. All in all it’s still a place to experience but not a place I’d quickly choose to go back to.

Regular customer here when it comes to Mexican food. Good service, central location and nice seating areas. Not to forget: delicious food!

Had a great meal here via Social Deal. The food was tasty, but not special considering the cheap price. Cozy tent, it was very busy on Saturday. As a result, we sometimes had to wait a long time.

Delicious food. An excellent menu for only 17.50! It was really tasty and they also had plenty of vegetarian options (I now have Vega chicken wings and I'm completely happy). Despite a shortage of staff, the service was very friendly and attentive and they made sure we got to the theater on time!

The ordered salad was forgotten by the wait staff, but it turned out not to be necessary.

Atmosphere was nice, it is a pretty restaurant/space. But, the food was overall disappointing. We ordered the vegetarian fajitas that came with super overcooked rice (it was so so overcooked) and no flavour at all, some "mexican salad" of shredded sweet sad cabbage salad, the vegetables (abougine, onion and peppers) inside the fajitas were mostly raw wrapped with very sad store bought tortillas, the only tasty part was the queso fresco. We arrived on a busy Friday before 8pm, even though we had a reservation, we were sat down 25 mins later to a table and the waitress forgot to bring our bill for 20 mins... to be fair, the place was packed but it was a bit annoying to see the waitress go over the bigger groups waay more often. Drinks were nice, so maybe to have only a starter like a quesadilla and a cocktail is a nice plan. The other dishes, not so sure.

Itt edges with the tex-mex stereotypical Restaurant, not everyone loves Frida's paintings nor burritos. Service is great, but food is meh, first time I went it was okay 👍 for being a "Mexican" restaurant out of Mexico, the second time I asked for Pollo Picante, it was not Picante and the chicken was dry as the Sahara desert. Great for entreees and small plates, there is no rocket science involved in putting cheese onto a nachos plate.

Excellent staff. Food good but boring. Too bad SD then offers something surprising that makes me want more. Cocktail 8 euros, only ice, too bad.

Good service and very cozy ambience! We had a very good dinner experience! We arrived with our family and our table was ready for us. Service was great! Helped us through the menu. We had the nachos (with extra chicken) for sharing and then we ordered the Enchiladas (pollo), the Mexican barbacoa and the kids the Mini Burritos. All were served very nicely and they were tasty too!

We ordered here. Most expensive microwave meal in a long time. Spices are hard to find and the Igloo frozen meals are much better.

Went on a friday at 19:45, so it was packed. We (2p) were seated in a corner and couldn't get the attention of the waitresses at all. We watched new people get seated around us and get their drinks way before we could even order. Larger groups clearly got priority. Appetizer arrived fifteen minutes before our cocktails and when our mains arrived, the group that was seated a long time after us had already finished their meals. Besides that, the meals were fine but nothing special. It wasn't spicy and we didn't think it was worth the money and wait at all. Won't be returning unfortunately!

Started with a starter of Nachos and a burrito as a main course. Definitely recommended with a cozy Mexican atmosphere.

Friendly service and tasty bites served in a cozy spot. We had a light dinner at Popocatepetl for 2 so we didn't get to try all the menu, but the taco of the day (pulled pork at that time) and their beef burger were both good. The fries were also pretty well made: super crispy and well-seasoned, I don't know if they're house-made though. The loaded tacos are a good option too especially for the price, it's good value for the money. Apart from the food, we were really satisfied with the service. The staff are friendly and helpful, and our food arrived quite fast. We'll be back to try out the cocktails next time.

Pleasant and good above expectations. After spending a day in Utrecht we went looking for a restaurant. On Saturday evening almost everything was full, but Popocatepetl still had room. Not very inviting from the outside, but very cozy on the inside and delicious Mexican food!

As a food deliver they made me wait outside in the rain when it wasn’t even busy, also funny that it’s a Mexican restaurant with no one even remotely Mexican working there

3 years ago I was looking for a temporary job and ended up here and afterwards I regret working here. Most of the staff were pleasant, except for the chef in the kitchen and the manager who runs the place, what jerks they were. To make matters worse, when I was working there, I developed an allergy just at the moment that corona broke out, large red spots and itching all over my body. I didn't think the kitchen was clean when I came in, but I thought "it's only for a little while and it will be fine" well I knew that and it was all so impersonal, no interest at all. Was actually quite happy when I got the call that I didn't have to work there anymore, for their 100 others and a grade lower than a 0

We zijn hier na een groot aantal jaar weer eens gaan eten en het was qua verwachting met de eerdere ervaring. Bij binnenkomst mochten we zelf een plek kiezen en dit ook gedaan. Daarna Vervolgens 3 gangen gegeten waarbij het eten allemaal oke was maar niet heel bijzonder. Grootste tegenvaller waren de nacho's welke slap en smakeloos waren. Grootste meevaller de Pais Tropical. Wat betreft de bediening deden de jongere serveersters zeker hun best terwijl de man die er liep vermoedelijk zijn dag niet had. Al met al leuk voor een keer.
