Mama Mojo - Feel Good Food in Oude Stad

Found this place entirely by accident as we needed to refuel in the middle of a long bike ride and not much else was open. WOW. Excellent sandwiches - we had the Dutch beef stew and the Cuban - and the pickle flight was an unexpected and delightful addition. The (I assume) owner explained everything in detail and in a way that revealed a passion for her work. We bought two jars of pickles to take with us. The service was impeccable and the whole experience was an A+ from start to finish. Highly recommend.

We visited Mama Mojo today expecting ordinary food, just a sandwich, but we got so much more. I had the pastrami, and my wife had the pulled chicken, followed by the pickle flight. The pastrami tasted better than at the world-famous restaurant in NYC. The pulled chicken was absolutely delicious as well. The real surprise was the pickles—every single bowl was a delight. Each variety was explained to us, and you could tell that someone puts their heart and soul into it. And you can taste it! If we're ever in town again, we'll definitely go back to Mama Mojo. No photos, just come and see for yourselves.

Had a delicious ‘Katz’s deli inspired’ Reuben Pastrami sandwich (and coffee). Hmmm! The Pastrami is homemade, and you can taste it! A lovely combination with (again, homemade) sauerkraut and more. Generously topped and the flavors in the right balance. I also got a piece of bread pudding with the coffee; this was really tasty too. Furthermore, she makes her own pickles, lard, pickled fruit, etc. I even took home a jar of Kimchi :) You can feast your eyes on this cozy little place. I am a really picky eater, and this place is an exception. I am 100% going back here!

Insanely delicious sandwiches! We had a Cuban with the mortadella truffle special & the banh mi. Perfectly prepared and packaged to go 👌. The owner / chef is super helpful and kind, as well. We will be back for more menu items soon!

I came in the restaurant when there was just a pair of customers waiting for their order. After ordering , few other people came in. They got their sandwiches in about 10 m, while I had to wait for 25 m and received not what I was ordering. Saw couple hundreds of good reviews, that's what brought me here, not sure maybe in Netherlands businesses can delete "unverified" reviews like in Germany. If that's the case, attaching the card transaction, meal + drink. Sandwich was mediocre, definitely not enough to feel full, however the staff was friendly, as an apopology, they proposed hot drink to go. To sum up, if I were you, I would skip this place.

What a fantastic shop and eatery. The lady (the owner) is truly the textbook example of what you want in a shop at all times. And what an assortment of delicious things. Truly worthy of a Michelin star, because you would go out of your way for this.

Had the most fantastic experience at Mama Mojo today after popping in for some lunch! Such a warm welcome upon arrival and considerate treatment throughout our meal. Not to mention the freshest and tastiest sandwich I've had in a long time! An absolute gem of Haarlem, would recommend to all!

Come by if you love funky flavors! We had the pickle tasting flight and the owner was really passionate about explaining everything and giving us the best experience. Would recommend to anyone visiting Haarlem and who loves pickled goods 😋 (it’s also situated right next to the Uiltje bar/taproom for drinks after!)

The sandwiches are so hard to choose; they're all so delicious! Do you love a deliciously warm, hearty, and wintery sandwich? Then choose the beef stew sandwich! Or are you craving something fresh and lighter? Then I can absolutely recommend the shrimp sandwich! The sandwiches are incredibly tasty and often contain the same pickles you can buy in jars here. It's a fantastic place with a phenomenal owner. You can also take your sandwich to go and eat at 't Uiltje next door if there's no room inside :) It's great to see these small businesses supporting each other.

Whenever we go out for a day, we always try to find unique spots. Here, they absolutely blew us away with their sandwiches. Absolutely different. They immediately explained the menu to us. I asked which ones they considered their favorites, and sure enough, the Cordemeijer sausage won the day, but especially the whole experience: the selection of specialty rolls, the occasional aniseed flavor of the fennel, the sauce they change if you're not a fan of spicy food. Oh, why do we live so far away? Truly friendly people who know what they're doing. Hats off!

Do you love a delicious sandwich? Then you definitely can't miss Mama Mojo in Haarlem! I received a warm welcome from the chef himself. As soon as I saw the word "pork belly" on the menu (Bàhn Mi Pork Belly, to be precise), I was sold, but little did I know the treat that awaited me... It starts with the freshly baked, crispy roll, the fresh lettuce, their own pickle, special sauce... everything makes this sandwich a sensation. Then there's the pork belly itself; perfectly cooked, wonderfully tender and juicy, and above all, marinated to perfection. All this as a result of slow cooking. Perfect! Mama Mojo is also the mother of a whole line of pickled products (Pickles). There's Red Onion Compote, Pineapple, Atjam Tjampoer, Mango Chili... and much more. The selection changes according to the seasonal fruit and vegetable selection. I also heard about a Red Onion Compote with a Stout from 't Uiltje. After a small taste, I was instantly sold. I had tried several test brews beforehand, searching for the perfect beer for this compote. In the end, it was none other than the heavy Imperial Oatmeal Stout (10%) from 't Uiltje called "F.... the Christmas tree is on fire!" A perfect balance of sweet, sour, depth, and... no more words, try it, buy it! A great addition to a cheese board or a hamburger, for example. I also got to try the "Ananas Uiltje IPA" aged to the 't Uiltje IPA "Bird of Prey" (5.8%)... delicious!

Delicious lunch with wonderfully fresh, soft bread. We ate on stools by the window. Great personal service, and the smell of delicious food wafted through the air.

First, the bread pudding (today with pear) is absolutely outstanding. If that was all I'd had this'd be a solid five-star review. But, well, I had other things. I had the pickle flight and the prawn mousse sandwich. The flight was mostly delicious and clearly explained, and I liked most of them. The sandwich....was disappointing. The problem was the bread, the main part of my meal. It reminded me exactly of the toasted baguettes at most banh mi places back home (Calgary, Canada): over toasted. Dry. BRITTLE, almost inedibly so. The toppings were also not that good- beautiful and photo-worthy but not much depth of flavour. Now all that said, I'd absolutely return for the bread pudding and maybe for the pickles, but that sandwich just wasn't good. It also took a confusingly long time to reach my table. Now this place is doing good things in an absolutely minuscule space but given how long my sandwich took (about 30 minutes), I expected much better.

The place is very cute and cozy, food is phenomenal and the girl that served us was so friendly and helpful. Loved the place, would come again!

Ordered today, Bahn Mi sandwich was perfect, But their prawn soufflé sandwich, Was really disgusting, Not recommended.

We haven't had such a delicious sandwich in a long time!... We arrived late (half past four, the shop closes at five) and asked if we could order another sandwich. The lady behind the counter took all the time for us and explained what was on the sandwiches, extremely friendly and super enthusiastic about their products. The sandwich was really delicious, we had chosen the pork belly sandwich, she even asked if we wanted it with or without coriander (I really don't like coriander, so I was very happy with this ;) ) we recommend this nice shop 100 percent and will definitely eat a delicious sandwich here more often ❤️

We recently ate at Mama Mojo because we saw the Google rating was 5.0. What can we say? The 5 stars are absolutely deserved. The food is fresh, homemade, and very special. Not something you'll find on every street corner. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They also have homemade pickles to take away.

What a great place! You really notice the quality in the sandwiches and that for less than 10 euros! Well filled, fresh and very warm. This is a place you don't want to skip!

Bib Gourmand! Best meal at the best price in my 10 day Holland trip was at Mama Mojo's! Sandwiches to lust after with a comforting vibe. I could eat here every day (yes, I went back daily after discovering this gem in Haarlem). The stewed beef sandwich brought me back to grandma's cooking; She fed hungry lumberjacks in Canada who demanded fresh and flavorful food. (Hungry lumberjacks are scary) Capping off the experience was a flight of pickled (preserved) creations made with local ingredients and a mix of subtle and surprising (wow) tang. I arrived after the lunch rush on my last day and the chef had time to describe each item and chat with me. As suspected, she has a wealth of top tier training and experience. This unexpected mini food tour was an experience I'll never forget. It's a small cafe with little tables and locals talking jovially. Not a place for loud, demanding people. Be kind, enjoy, and soak up the experience. Worth going out of your way for! (And you can grab jars of pickled goodies to take home) *Bib Gourmand is a Michelin Guide award recognizing outstanding food for a moderate price. If I could, I would make this award official for Mama Mojo!

The taste... the service... phenomenal. I've been coming to Haarlem my whole life but have always cycled past Mama Mojo. Today I finally stepped inside and it really made my weekend. The flavors are so special. The sandwiches are deliciously fresh and crispy. The service is excellent. A real hidden gem in Haarlem. I secretly hope it stays that way but I want everyone to experience a sandwich from Mama Mojo.

One of the most delicious sandwiches I have tried. We got smoky chicken and portobello sandwiches. We shared but I wanted more than half of each😅 If we stayed in the town I would go every day to this place.

While you are warmly welcomed by the lovely hostess, she will prepare a delicious sandwich for you. She likes to think along with you and asks if you want your sandwich with or coriander 😘 What a winner!

absolutely amazing sandwich place, I go here every time I'm in Haarlem! The sandwiches are balanced in flavor with plenty of filling and different kinds of fancy pickles. The owner will enthusiastically tell you about them if you want to know more or tweak something. The walls are covered in all kinds of pickle combinations so you can bring your favourites home! Also don't forget to always buy bread pudding because it's a cinnamony heaven

I got the smoked chicken sandwich, and it was SO delicious. I loved how unique all of the sandwiches were. We had 7 people in our group and we all ordered a different sandwich, so we got to sample a lot of the options. Almost all of us went to order a second sandwich after our first because we loved it so much. The owner makes a lot of the ingredients herself and will make each sandwich to order, so it was incredibly fresh! We also loved that the owner was so so kind and friendly. We couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience for lunch near Haarlem square!

I would definitely go to Haarlem again because of the two wonderful ladies here, who were so friendly. The food was delicious, but even more important was the unparalleled friendliness and hospitality. They made us feel so warm and welcome. We also received a delicious free bread pudding with coffee. I really experienced the “feeling at home”. Now I understand why they have five stars – more than deserved! I only have one suggestion, if possible, is to have a brown bread option.

My girlfriend and I were looking for a new lunch spot in Haarlem for us and we definitely found it! A nice cozy sandwich shop where you will receive a super friendly welcome from the owner. A delicious choice of different well-made sandwiches that are made entirely in-house. In addition, with your coffee you also get a homemade savory instead of a pre-packaged cookie, so the little things stand out and are greatly appreciated! Definitely recommended for everyone to discover this hidden gem and we will definitely come back more often to enjoy this service!

I haven't had such a tasty Bánh Mì with Pork Belly in a long time! Our table companion also had the Portobello sandwich, which was really tasty and well-seasoned! Incredibly friendly people and beautiful products, highly recommended.
