Since host Vagarsh Mogatseljan took over this brasserie, the quality has improved dramatically. Chef Berend and his team ensure superb quality with fresh ingredients at truly fair prices, especially compared to other Amsterdam restaurants. The wine list is well-organized: no nonsense here, just expert selections. Highly recommended, without a doubt!

Had an amazing dinner at Maris Piper, the Sea bass was my personal favourite of the night along side the fennel salad. The crispy skin of the sea bass and the turnip toppings was a very unique take and one to die for. Service was friendly and professional all at the same time. This restaurant is 100% worth a visit one of the gems of Amsterdam

The food was fantastic. The tournedos was truly unsurpassable. The side dishes were also very original and delicious. The starters and desserts were the same. The welcome and service were very friendly and fast, but we were early in the evening. The restaurant is also very atmospheric. Highly recommended!

Our second time at Maris Piper, and once again: what an incredible experience!! A beautiful, atmospheric restaurant, and every course was exceptionally delicious and refined, offering exceptional value for money. But what made our evening even more special was the wonderful, natural hospitality of Vagarsh (and the rest of the team). From the incredibly warm welcome, to their help with alcohol-free arrangements, proactive checks on the pregnancy-safety of certain dishes, the opportunity to preview all the wine and non-alcoholic suggestions, and the list goes on. We truly felt pampered!

What a fantastic evening at Maris Piper! From the moment we walked in, everything felt festive—the atmosphere, the service, and especially the food. The food was excellent — but the experience was anything but. Service was disorganized from the start. We waited an unreasonable amount of time for our order, only to receive the wrong dishes. Much later, we were casually informed that some items “weren’t available” after we had already been waiting. Desserts took so long that we had to push repeatedly just to get them. And when we asked to speak with the manager about the issues, he refused to come out and sent a waitress instead — avoiding any responsibility. In short: great food, very poorly managed restaurant. The kitchen delivers, but the management and service undermine the whole experience. A shame, because it could be truly excellent if someone took ownership.

The food here is genuinely excellent, but everything else about the experience was a disappointment. Service was chaotic from start to finish. We waited far too long for our order, only to receive it incorrect — and much later we were informed that several dishes we originally ordered “weren’t available.” Desserts took so long that we had to complain just to get them. When we asked to speak to the manager, he refused to come out and instead sent a waitress to deal with it, which felt unprofessional and evasive. Amazing kitchen, very poorly run restaurant. The management clearly has no control over the service, and it shows. Great food doesn’t make up for this level of disorganization and lack of accountability.

We went here for dinner last Saturday and had an absolutely delicious meal. It was pleasantly busy, and the service was fantastic. We had oysters, Iberian ham, and smoked eel as starters. Then we had the "spiekeuken" (squeaky kitchen), tournedos, carrots (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!), and asparagus. We finished off with a delicious cocktail. We'll definitely be back!

Portion was rather small so you had to order more to have a proper meal which I find disappointing for ordering a main at a higher price to not have any sides included . Quality of food (chicken) was decent but very salty and little little sauce. Staff gave Amex experience dinner only 1 option on the menu (whereas other dining experiences always have a few and make it a nice 3 course) the worst tables and the older gentleman although passionate was also a tad arrogant. Felt like they were mostly nice to people ordering a lot and mostly drinking expensive wines where we don’t drink alcohol. Overall, overpriced for the quality and experience.

Fifteen minutes for water. Another fifteen, still no menus, no check-in, not even eye contact. After half an hour of staring at an empty table, we gave up and left. As we stood to go, the server didn’t ask why. Only when we mentioned we never got menus did they finally speak: “we prioritize tables that made reservations.” If you can’t properly serve a walk-in, then don’t seat us to deliberately provide poor service? What concerns me most isn’t the wait itself, or having to eat somewhere else eventually. It’s that the staff member thought their response justified our crappy experience rather than recognizing a clear service failure. No apology, no acknowledgment of the problem, just a defensive explanation that missed the point entirely. They offered to waive the water, but I insisted on paying. After all, it was the only thing we actually got served that evening.

They’ve changed the menu. Gone are the stars… the bread and butter (no longer the old chestnut blend and the bread comes toasted - flash burnt on gas flame if I had to guess). The chicken still punches above its weight (however they don’t offer the chicken “for two”). One major loss… no more purée of potato. (RIP potato in heaven!) The service is still 5-star. Music has improved. Wine list still good. I feel the soul is being stripped from the menu , which makes it in need of a bigger makeover. Otherwise…. Bring back the heart and soul in the dishes that made this place irreplaceable.

This was our third time here, and another disappointment. Last time, we'd actually decided not to return because of the bad gravy and the exorbitant prices, but since there was supposed to be a new chef, we gave it another chance. The food was decent, but the gravy was again meager and tasteless. Vegetables are missing from the main courses unless you order extra side dishes. The waiter scooped one spoonful of gravy from a small pan onto my plate and walked away with the rest – absolutely ridiculous. The gravy simply needs to be reduced more thoroughly and served in sufficient quantities. We had made an early reservation to be ready on time, but that proved impossible. We didn't get our starter until 40 minutes later, without any bread or anything beforehand. The dirty plates then sat on the table for another fifteen minutes. Our main course didn't arrive until an hour and a half later. I ordered the tournedos Rossini with a €20 surcharge. What I got for that: a pitiful spoonful of gravy and a thumb-sized piece of foie gras. Absolutely not value for money. Dessert was out of the question. After waiting two hours and still not seeing a menu, we simply left. We've always been big fans of Guillome, but without him, the restaurants in the Breda group have deteriorated rapidly.

A charming restaurant in De Pijp. Tables in the "conservatory" are a bit close together. The welcome upon arrival is friendly. However, we found the service mediocre, with frequent requests for attention and little knowledge of the products. The food was okay. We had to send the meat back once because it wasn't cooked medium. The second time, it was also borderline cooked. The wine selection is quite extensive, and you can enjoy a nice glass of wine with your dishes. All in all, we expected more for the price.

Without a doubt - absolutely superb. The server was the warmest and most attentive person I have ever had as a waiter in my life, it was like he could read our minds while being knowledgable - he made the meal. We simply left wine and dessert to him and took all recommendations for pairings. The flavours were perfect. Overall better than my expectations. For those who need to know - they have natural wines with no added sulphites on the menu. Put yourself in their hands. Had the truffle pasta as a start, moved to the seasonal cod poached in olive oil with potato and tarragon oil drizzle while splitting the fennel salad with my husband who had the local steak and started with a melt in your mouth spanish preserved cured pork (presumto iberico) and asparagus starter. Finished with the chocolate gooey melt rammican with butter ice cream. I feel cheated that no one has told me about butter ice cream before. Simply sublime. The perfect anniversary. I came moderately hungry and left pleasently full. Any reviewer that hasn't given this place a 5 star review, I question their understanding of fine dining. Thank you for a perfect evening!

The flavors and quality are excellent. The atmosphere, decor, and service were very poor. They also charge €6 for a carafe of tap water. When you ask about it, they say they have an expensive filter system, meaning filtered tap water. The photos make it seem like a rather high-end place, but that's quite disappointing. All in all, a fine place, but don't expect too much, and it's quite quiet.

With friends and my partner, we were directed to a table outside upon arrival without further explanation as to why we could not sit on the green velvet of the interior. Later it turned out that the temperature inside was considerably more uncomfortable than the 24 degrees on the terrace. In the kitchen it had even become 45 degrees that evening. Upon arrival, the international waiter asked us if we wanted to start the evening with bubbles, which turned out not to be just any bubbles, but the 14 euro champagne. The waiter, who tried with all his might to converse with us in Dutch and therefore seemed increasingly nervous, served the champagne in (too) large wine glasses, which made the investment in the R. Gerbaux winery seem even more insignificant. Everything on the table is in order, from the soft napkins with embroidered logos to the glassware and the (sometimes dull) cutlery. With the first food, in our case, the taste buds are immediately activated. The bread roll with almond butter was well received by all table companions. In the first course a variety of dishes were ordered, the kitchen managed to get them delivered at the same time. The flavours were all very good; the pasta with truffle, the smoked eel and the scallops... They were delicious. The only comment at this level of cooking (and prices) could be that the consistency could be better. When you serve 2 identical dishes in a course at 1 table; make sure they are EXACTLY the same. As a main course we had already reserved a Beef Wellington the weeks before; the kitchen must indeed know this in advance for proper preparation. After a presentation of the entire construction at the table with the announcement that it had to rest for 10 minutes; the senses were immediately stimulated. You could smell the rich buttery crust of the dough. In addition to the beef wellington, to give the taste buds some rest every now and then, we had also ordered fries, French salad and spinach, which all turned out to be good and tasty combinations with the beef wellington. The waiter's wine advice always consisted of recommending the most expensive wine, without any real substantiation, so Maris Piper can certainly still make gains here. The wine list is not too extensive and recommending the right wine based on input from the preferences of visitors makes for a much better experience. The table reached a consensus on the Austrian Pinot Noir, a beautiful full but accessible taste that actually only makes you wonder how that bottle could have emptied so quickly (Ried Galgenberg 2021). The Beef Wellington then... A paragraph of its own would be appropriate. It is spectacularly good; despite cheating with a layer of meat around the duxelles (the mixture of mushrooms around the tenderloin), the taste, consistency and the additional Madeira sauce were a 10/10. The less easy to portion ends of the beef wellington were also served cut into quarters, which actually already felt like a dessert. Then dessert had to come and we actually only did it for this review, because with a beef wellington you actually have enough for the main course. The Maris Piper eclair is indeed different from the others. If you expect a regular eclair you will be somewhat disappointed. It is not soft, but crispy and the mousse in it is quite firm. If it had been given another 10 minutes to come to (room) temperature it would most likely have gone down a bit smoother and also tasted a bit creamier. The Omelette Sibiriene tasted authentic and the chocolate toppings gave it a rich taste. The accompanying coffee is from Nespresso, not good, not bad. Very mediocre and in terms of appearance and taste it detracts a bit from the total experience. The table companions jointly came to an 8.5 which with (wine) training of the service, an eye for detail of the kitchen brigade (consistency) and products at a high level (coffee) can very quickly become much higher.

We had dinner yesterday in the restaurant. The service was clearly meeting direction and a senior person to control the service sequence. Staff was trying but missing basic training. The food was nothing special, cooking way of the meat was not well handled, and although changed it was a bit of a pity. No bread was served until asked, might have been a side but if so no recommendation was made. One year ago with lunch I was really enjoying it, last night not so much. If there is more attention for the guests, the atmosphere would be a lot better. It takes nothing to thank the guests after their meal but even that was to much to ask.

A beautiful restaurant with pretty good food but neglectful service. We came on a Friday night at 6pm and for a good hour we were the only guests in the restaurant. It was fairly lively though, as the staff were very chatty with each other. And yet our drinks were slow, our entrees were slow and lukewarm when they arrived. The spring chicken appeared mildly undercooked in spots, and came with no veg. The lamb was tasty, as was the cured salmon and grilled artichoke. Overall not an impressive place. Feels like they are missing the mark, especially for the price.

We come to Amsterdam every year and are always dining at new places, very excited we had booked a reservation at Maris Piper given the reputation of the Breda Group. Sadly, it was a bit of a disappointment. Atmosphere & Service: The restaurant is beautiful, quite impressive the moment you walk through the door with the open kitchen, beautiful banquets, flooring, lighting and more. However, we were not seated in the main dining area but were instead seated on the built-in patio. This is a very narrow space and all of the tables along the interior wall (where we were seated in the last spot) require diners to sit side-by-side looking at the 2-top directly in-front of you instead of each other. Further, the wall sconce directly behind us was so bright and shines down the wall directly between you and your dining partner, again not ideal for conversation. Our server was charming, very pleasant (maybe from Greece) but he seemed to be the only waiter covering the entire patio so it was quite difficult to get his attention when we wanted to order or get another glass of wine. The Food: The Butterhead salad was very plain, stacked lettuce that was under-dressed. The grilled artichoke seems to be a staple at Maris Piper but we did not enjoy it. The petals were tough to pull-out and had little meat, the tips of the petals are all charred so you’re literally left with black fingers when you're finished with a very small half of a heart for your efforts. We also found the vegetables with Joselita and spinach & mushrooms fairly ordinary. Our mains were the spring chicken, more the size of a small game hen... and you only get half of the bird that you'll need to pull apart for a small serving of meat. My cod dish was unremarkable and pieces of the fish were a bit chewy. Maybe it was an off-night for Maris Piper but with a 4.2 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who didn’t enjoy their dining experience.

Very low quality of meals, very attentive staff, who did their best to improve our experience. It took us 1.5 hours from the entrance to the main course. In 1/2 lobster was almost nothing to eat. Turbotine was barely eatable: lots of bones, almost no taste, cold and almost disgusting. No side dish was available, given the size of meals made totally hungry. Dessert was great, though. Very loud, tables on the terrace are very strangely arranged.

Dopo aver ordinato due metà di aragosta siamo stati avvisati che erano finite e può capitare, poi la mia amica si è poi accorta della presenza di un topo nella sala dove stavamo mangiando, “normalissimo” a detta loro per Amsterdam. Alla richiesta quindi per il disagio di offrirci almeno il digestivo si sono rifiutati. Non credo torneremo. Peccato il locale è davvero In e accogliente e il cuoco molto bravo.

Last night we had a delicious meal from the Chefs table menu. The atmosphere and service were excellent. Friendly hostess who occasionally came for a chat and explained everything about the different wines. There was also a new boy in the kitchen who was doing the chef's table for the first time. If the hostess had not told us this, we would not have known. He served the dishes with enthusiasm and explained them. Everything was very tasty, only the dish with scallops was a bit on the salty side for us. We would love to come back in the future!

I had an excellent experience at Maris Piper in March 2024. The steak, tartare, and ceviche were all outstanding. The service was impeccable, and the wine selection was great. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, creating a wonderful atmosphere. Unfortunately, the chef’s table was fully booked, but we had a lovely table in the “winter garden.” While the prices are a little bit higher, they are completely justified by the quality of food and service.

This restaurant was generally good with friendly but patchy service. The wine is very reasonably priced and good quality. The steak was well prepared but the small side portions of spinach and chips felt old and unloved, especially for a restaurant named after a potato. Nothing was bad at all, and the fundamental elements of the food are good, but looking at small things like sides and service (eg forgetting things, leaving us alone with the bill for a long time and bringing the wrong coats) would help.

Been here with a business group. The food is good and the wine list is top notch. We had a beautiful evening. Service was also fine, but you also automatically pay a 10% tip for that. I find that inappropriate, especially on a group account. What I thought was a shame was that we had to pay a €50 fine for someone who was sick, while we certainly weren't frugal when ordering things. In larger groups I find that someone can always become ill.

El tiempo era atroz, así que llegamos temprano para nuestra reserva, aunque no era un problema. Hit and miss. We dined at the bar which allows for pleasant interactions with the bar staff. Service was top notch - one example of this is when our desert wine had cork and we were offered a new glass from a fresh bottle free of charge. The food for us was a bit of a disappointment. Although the cured mackerel starter and oysters were very good, the (26 euro!) roasted langoustine dish - which was essentially kohlrabi with a tiny piece of langoustine tail - was underwhelming and too expensive for what it was. We then shared the (75 euro) rib eye steak which had too much fat and not enough meat and the meat that was there was mostly chewy. Having said that, the wine pairings were very good and the sommelier did a great job helping us navigate the menu.

This was my first visit to Maris Piper after receiving a reccomendation. No complaints on the food, it was very good. The service however was unacceptably slow: we had pre-ordered beef wellington for 3/4 of our table, and it took the mains 2:15 minutes from our arrival to be served. The table beside us, with the same order, sat down 30 minutes later than us, also had starters, and received their main (beef wellington) served 45 minutes before ours. Rather than admit a mistake had been made in the coordination between the timing (aka the waiter forgot to tell the kitchen), the waiter instead made a bunch of excuses about Wellington taking a long time… the restaurant has the potential to be great but our evening was ruined by bad service. I leave this feedback in the hope that the quality of the food coming out of the kitchen can be accompanied by the front of house to the same standard.

I recently dined at Maris Piper in Amsterdam, and while the experience had its positive aspects, there were some disappointments that stood out. The restaurant itself is quite nice – the location is convenient, the atmosphere is warm, and the vibe is inviting. The staff were polite, though the service lacked a certain attentiveness. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by a few key issues. Despite having a reservation at 8:15 PM and arriving on time, we were seated at 8:20 PM and didn’t start eating until 10:20 PM. Waiting over two hours for food is simply unacceptable. When the dishes finally arrived, they were lukewarm, which detracted significantly from the enjoyment. For example, the onion soup had excellent flavor but was served cold, and as a result, it was hard to appreciate fully. Another concern was the portion sizes. The onion soup was more like half a dish, not even a full serving, and the portion of fries was tiny—barely half the small container they brought to the table. For the price and presentation, the portion sizes were disappointing and left us unsatisfied. While the restaurant has potential with its ambiance and flavors, the delays, cold food, and small portions made the overall experience underwhelming. I hope the team can address these issues to create a more balanced dining experience for future guests.

We absolutely love this restaurant! Even though we arrived well before opening time, we were greeted very warmly and invited to shorten the waiting time with a drink - a really great service. The food was simply delicious, every dish prepared perfectly. The portions were just right and the drink recommendations were excellent and paired perfectly with the dishes. This restaurant is a real insider tip for anyone looking for something special: a cozy, down-to-earth atmosphere combined with excellent cuisine. We will definitely come back and recommend it to everyone!

It was really cold in the restaurant and this didn't get any better (hands half frozen) and only 1 person served (who really did his best and was super friendly but it was just too much) No bread (but a plate and butter knife) and I always find it poor that you really only get a steak on a plate and nothing at all, not even a small thing. Food was fine, but we thought it was a bit too expensive for what you get. Fries were tasty but expensive for what you get.

Had an amazing dinner here. We walked in (after having tried some other restaurants, but without a reservation on a Friday night…it gets difficult in Amsterdam). We were seated at the bar and gladly took it. At first I felt a bit overlooked, but our waiter quickly realized that and offered us some extra bread on the house. Normally, I wouldn’t get excited about bread but the smoked almond/garlic butter they pair it with is just delicious. After a while we were even offered a table seat and continued our dinner there. The food is scrumptious! The dishes are all prepared with care and were amazing. The wine was surprisingly well-priced and our waiters each gave us amazing warm service. Our waiter Nikos had great recommendations for the food and even for a coffee place in the morning. We felt pampered all evening. I can greatly recommend the smoked eel and foie gras, the scallops and ribeye. Don’t forget to order a side of mashed potato with bone marrow- it is really good. I was even surprised about the desserts; sometimes it can be an afterthought, but at Maris Piper each dessert was well balanced and brought their own personality. The baba is light, has a rly nice orange like presence, the baked Alaska had an amazingly lemony meringue, and the chocolate was rich and dense. Beautiful! Would love to visit again.

We were there on a Friday evening, the small manager was yelling at one person in the staff telling him he was gonna fire him tonight, then was giving a hard time at a waiter in the middle of the restaurant with another waiter and the chef trying to calm him down. It was one big nightmare. For a business dinner on Friday evening, with a reservation and the menu provided in advance. The service started slowly and it was not coordinated. Ordered mocktails but only arrived 20 minutes after everyone had finished drinking. Ribeye was worst we ever ate. First of all, we were not asked in advance how we wanted it. Finally served cold and weird. After asking twice that it could be fried a bit, it was served again but without much difference. As a gesture, the manager promised to give us 1 free ribeye, but to our great surprise it was still accepted at checkout. The only thing we could recommend is the bread upon arrival. Price-quality ratio is hard to find. This restaurant also really lacks a chef.

We are in fact seated next to each other like in the canteen and not face to face (we therefore asked to change to be face to face, which is much more pleasant during a dinner). Michelin guide led my friends and I here. We ordered the beef wellington for 2 and lamb as starters. Appetizers were beef tartar and shrimp bisque with bone marrow mash, and spinach/mushrooms for sides. If you come here, don’t sleep on the beef wellington, it’s definitely the start of the show. To be honest the sides were forgettable at best while the shrimp bisque and beef tartar really stood out. The big negatives were the street constructions which made is feel dusty and dirty while sitting outside (totally not their fault, I get that) but the menus were dirty too. That doesn't quite inspire confidence in those handling your food. Enough with the negative, let’s revisit that beef welly. It was everything I wanted in steak. Cooked perfectly around the edges with a perfect pink center. Some countries cook more on the bleu side while others over cook. One thing is certain, every meat eater has their own preference as to what constitutes a perfect steak and Maris met my definition of a medium rare steak as someone visiting from NYC. The food was extremely substandard, so bad that I don't have to eat in any other of Freek's establishments. We arrived around 7 o'clock and there was hardly anyone there. And yet it took a very long time before we were even contacted. Long story short, this is a crappy place with substandard staff (and food). Even the wines were not recommended because the Italians were not supposed to make rose, so only the rose for 66 euros per bottle from France was worth it. The beef wellington or as they say ''nice'' there ''beef welly'' was ''okay'' and at The Duchess for example much better. You had to make a reservation in advance if you wanted to eat this, but we didn't get a response so it was still a question of whether we were going to eat this.

On May 24, 2024 we concluded our anniversary excellently at Maris Piper restaurant. We were warmly welcomed and taken to a table in the middle of the attractive conservatory of the restaurant. We enjoyed the international company of guests and service and the buzz of conviviality and casual enjoyment of delicious food. We received very good help in choosing both the starter and main course and the matching wines. Although dessert is often served with festive sparklers, we were pleasantly surprised because it was unexpected and always thoughtful. We had a delicious meal and the carpaccio, lamb rump and crispy fries are definitely recommended. We would love to go back!

Had dinner here with some friends last weekend. Finally! I've wanted to do this for a long time, but never got around to it. Well, it was definitely worth the wait! We all really enjoyed the food. The starters, main courses and desserts were delicious and looked beautiful. Care was clearly given to this. The service was, in a word, fantastic! Upon arrival, I was kindly shown to my table. However, after waiting 20 minutes, I still hadn't received a menu or drinks menu, so I decided to get one myself. Before dinner, I finally looked up the menu on your website. Fortunately, after several attempts, I managed to speak to someone and place an order. The food was served quickly and was delicious, but the drinks didn't arrive until after dinner. When I asked for a glass of water, it unfortunately never arrived. I ended up going to the bar a second time to get it myself. In summary: the food is fantastic and served quickly, but the staff isn't very attentive and seems understaffed. The seating was a high bar table at the top of the stairs, which wasn't very comfortable on the bar stools. Finally, there was an error at the checkout because the bill included items I hadn't ordered. Fortunately, this was quickly corrected.
