Men Impossible in Jordaan

The place is cozy and it is located in the city center. Reservation is mandatory. Two optional are available for seats: big table in the center of the room where you can socialize or small table on the side. The food was really delicious and respect the original japanese cuisine.

Very small restaurant with really excellent vegan food. To be honest the actual ramen was my least favourite. All the starters were really good and was the dessert. The staff were very friendly. The tea (genmaicha?) was really nice. Normally I'm not a fan of vegan desserts but the soya ice-cream was delicious as was the yuzu sorbet.

There's really no words for me to say- a review cannot do it justice. This was hands down the number one culinary experience of my life- I've traveled a lot from boutique farm to table meals in India, fine French dining, the best of Italian handmade pasta on the Amalfi Coast, creative American molecular gastronomy. I was blown away by the flavor, the passion and mission of the entire team. 10 out of 10 for food, 10 out of 10 for service. 10 out of 10 for passion - not something you usually get from a restaurant. The chef literally had tears in his eyes at the response of the diners. A standing ovation to the team. This is something I will remember for years and decades to come. A restaurant experience which all future restaurants will have to live up to and likely fail. It was the last day of my trip, I emptied out any remaining euros I had into the tip jar. Definitely the meal of a lifetime.

It is with great sadness that I leave this review of "Average". What was once a truly special dining experience delivered nothing that once made it so unique and worthwhile. I have dined at Men Impossible 4 times in the past. This was my 5th. From the moment we arrived in the restaurant, it felt obvious that something was different. The environment was brighter, less welcoming, and there was a feeling of disorder in the kitchen and from the staff. Looking around, we noticed that the original chef, the owner, was not present. This is obviously not something that should be expected, for him to be there, but it is clear that the team that has been delegated to cannot run or deliver the same experience that originally made this place so special and deserving of their rating. The food was "acceptable". But nothing special at all. It was the same menu, but executed without the same level of mastery. The Ramen, the main star of the 6 course meal, arrived luke-warm, and without the depth of flavour that it once delivered. The dessert course was incredibly disappointing. What was once a special, sustainable and 0-waste focused idea, reduced to some mediocre ice-cream sitting in what felt like a store bought stale wafer, where previously there had been an ingenious deep fried hand-pulled noodle dough cut-offs. The meal was not worth the price label, where it once was. The magic has been lost, and its a real pity.

What an unfortunate downgrade in quality and flavors! I’m sad to leave this review but it’s in the hopes that the quality may improve again. A year ago the dishes were bursting with unique and intense flavors! Now, a year later we got the same menu but often with little to no taste at all. So disappointing. The chef who masterfully crafted each dish before wasn’t around last night, replaced by a team of younger chefs. The ambiance was also different - more tables, a bigger crowd, brighter and less cozy vibes. Service was lovely as usual.. But seems like quantity has replaced quality. The food itself was so disappointing that we can’t imagine returning now.

Even without a reservation they let us sit, very kind people, very youthful atmosphere, amazing food.

Worth the wait! I have wanted to come for years, and it did not disappoint. The black garlic was an explosion of umami goodness!

They have very less off the set menu items and space. But it was worth it. Too pricey for Ramen but the flavours are really good.

The menu consists of cold appetizers, soup, warm appetizers, main course, and dessert. It was fun to see how they mixed in some unique Dutch ingredients and elements, such as mochi made with Dutch potatoes and bitterballen made with edamame. All five courses are served lightly at appropriate intervals, but are all healthy and delicious! As expected, the main course, amaze men black garlic ramen, goes well with the tofu and tomato on top, so I highly recommend it. This is a place where you should make a reservation in advance.

We drove 9 hours once just to eat here.

One big dining table inside! When I came into this place I was really curious about the idea/concept of a Vegan Ramen. But I have to say this Ramen is not your typical traditional one you once had as it doesnt contain a broth within the dish. SURPRISINGLY my mind was blown by the burst of flavours and the texture the chef himself created! It was truly a taste with quality that reels you in for wanting more! It was subtle, creamy and creative at the same time and the price is very reasonable for the portion you get! For some it could also be experienced as a pasta-like texture because of the creaminess. 心のこもったおもてなしをありがとうございます° Typically I am not vegan, but this Ramen makes me want to be!

An incredible discovery! I'd heard about it and didn't want to miss it during my stay in Amsterdam - the 4.9 rating is totally justified. We came to the restaurant during their special Izakaya week, with a pop-up menu created by a chef. We arrived and sat down at a large table next to each other, close to the others and very friendly. We were able to try (almost) the entire menu, and everything was excellent! Special mention goes to the tofu karaage and the gyoza, which had more flavor than anything I've ever eaten before. Everything is very good, very tasty, it's beautiful, it's satisfying, and the service is extremely friendly! I 100% recommend a visit there if you're vegan - and even if you're not ❤️

Absolutely incredible. I can’t believe the food was vegan! We loved every single course, especially the mushroom takoyaki and black garlic ramen and spicy ramen! The saucy ramen was so creamy and incredible. The tofu ice cream was also incredible. Genuinely one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time — each bite was a hit, even if it was something we’d never dream of pairing together. An absolute must-visit in Amsterdam.

Had the clear truffle maze men and tasted very good, the noodles were thick, chewy and very flavorful. But the sauce doesn't really taste like truffle the first few bites it does but at some point it tasted just like japanese sesame dressing and reminded me of eating a salad.

It is really unfortunate they downgraded their quality. They used to be such a fantastic place to go, at least until last year. I used to go there and never got disappointed. We went with a friend who had been there last year, and we all agreed something is definitely different here. It feels Men Impossible is living off a legacy and they are not doing it justice. Terrible presentation and really disappointing flavours and ingredient selection. I suspect the chef is different? Plus it was too hot to even allow the food to be enjoyed, the drinks at the table setting has been downgraded too. What a shame.

Amazing vegan restaurant! Found this place on happy cow on my last full day in Amsterdam and was able to secure a super last minute reservation at the big shared table for 8pm. I was unsure how the table setting might affect my experience eating out alone, but fortunately the seat right in front of me was empty. There are very limited 2 person tables available, so be sure to reserve in advance if you are concerned about the seating arrangement. Overall I absolutely loved my dinner here. It felt very luxurious, with beautiful plating and creative dishes, but for a comparatively affordable price of 49€ for the 6 course menu. The only thing you choose is the ramen flavor ( I had the black garlic one) the rest is fixed. I especially enjoyed the sushi trio, the ponzu mushrooms, and the warm seasonal bites. Since I am not a fan of okra the soup wasn’t really my thing. I wish there would have been a ‘buffer’ dish between the warm bites and the ramen, as the fried tempura, croquette and takoyaki are already quite heavy, which made it difficult to enjoy the saucy and equally heavy ramen. Even a small bite of pickled veggies or just something to freshen the palate would have been great. Speaking of the ramen, I was surprised to see that all the ramen is saucy ramen rather than soupy, and while there is the option to upgrade to soupy ramen, this is only possible for the (in my opinion overpriced) amount of 4.50€. That option is also only available for the truffle flavor. Seeing as ramen served in broth are most common in Japan, and considering that such a heavy dish is number 5 in this course order, I hope that the restaurant might consider serving more broth ramen in the future. I ended up only having small bites of the noodles and instead eating all the leafy greens and bits of vegetables I could find to try and cleanse my palate and get rid of the heavy feeling. The portion was also quite big, but I will note that the kind waitress offered to give me a to go box which I had to decline because of my morning flight. The dessert was okay, it was good but I feel like they could be a bit more creative with it. I got the umeshuu (plum sake) for 10€ which I felt went well with my meal. The service was good, both servers were nice, attentive but not pushy. If you wish to have a bit of a slower paced meal I would inform them at the very start of the dinner because they are quite well paced and your next dish will appear in no time after you’ve finished the previous one. The chef was Japanese and after chatting to him in Japanese as I was about to leave I learned that he’s not all that comfortable in English yet, so don’t be surprised if he doesn’t do much of the serving/interacting with guests. Overall a very pleasant, luxurious experience for a fair price! If I’m ever in Amsterdam again I will definitely be back and bring a friend.

If you have a party of more than 2 make sure you do a reservation. I was lucky to get a walk-in setting and it was fantastic. Extremely authentic atmosphere with amazing flavors and textures at phenomenal prices.

We really loved this restaurant! The sitting arrangement (with a single large table where you sit oppossite other guests) was unusual, but gave an open and friendly atmosphère. The food was very tasty, refined and balanced. Although not a vegetarian, I felt that it was a very complete meal both in terms of taste as well as in terms of texture and consistency. The staff were kind and friendly and they had excellent customer service when we tried to contact them and ask a question. Highly recommended.

I live in the neighbourhood so after sports i just walked in and was offered different very nice options for one. Not stuffed in a corner whatsoever. The food was so good it made me emotional. The kimchi and the ramen were some of the best I ever had, and I make a lot of kimchi myself.

The best vegan ramen place i have ever had. We did a 6 course meal. Super tasty and used a lot of plant based ingredients to elevate the dishes. I loved the tempura. Mushroom and mochi. Creamy ramen was little heavier on a 6 course meal. But everything was thoughtfully done. I was pleasantly surprised and that tofu was minimally used as opposed to other vegan ramen places i have had.

Very nice multi-course Japanese inspired vegan meal. Some of the flavors were a bit muted, but the black garlic Amaze-men is worth the trip. Also recommend the Sake pairings. Nice selection that paired well with all the dishes. Small place so reservations definitely recommended.

Edit: In my original review I have mentioned that it’s my favourite restaurant in NL. Sadly our recent experience has changed my opinion on it. It was me and my husband’s anniversary and he booked the ‘anniversary package’ as a surprise. Before the day of reservation, he got a WhatsApp message which indicated that we would get a little surprise, a card, and a bottle of wine. However, upon arrival, they only mentioned that we will have a bottle of wine. (Which is €40 on their menu card, and the price of the anniversary package is also €40 more expensive than the normal one) Until the end, we were waiting for ‘the little surprise’, but nothing happened. So we decided to just pay our bill and leave. We have asked the waitresses on the day, they have no idea about the messages we got via WhatsApp and they mentioned that normally they would make a Polaroid photo but they ran out of it… In the end we just canceled the package, because we don’t want to only get a bottle of wine which we actually need to pay the full price and nothing more. Also the flavour from their menu was not as good as our past experience. The Japanese tempura is supposed to be lightly and airy, but it was heavily floury coated and stale. And some of the dishes are way too salty. They offered us a discount for future visit because of the anniversary package didn’t go through. However, when we gave this review about flavour change to them directly, they didn’t reply it anymore. Anyway, it’s such ashamed that through the years of growing of this restaurant, the quality control also gets worse. The ramen deserves 5 stars: it was the best I've ever had in my life. Full of flavor, creamy and just the right amount of spice. The rest of the tasting menu, although very well thought out and executed, didn't impress me. The dessert was disappointing: the tofu ice cream only tasted like sugar and the matcha pudding had no distinctive flavor. I would go back just to eat the ramen again.

I don’t even know where to begin how to describe what an incredible experience and tastebud journey eating here was! This was my first time here so because it is a tasting menu every dish that was brought out was a sensory delight. The food was absolutely gorgeous in presentation as well as one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had. Highly highly recommend this one if you visit Amsterdam!

We were there last night. There were four of us, and we loved it. The way they prepare everything is amazing, each ingredient is so flavorful, and you can taste it—the food is truly delicious. Of course, you'll have to come hungry because even though the portions may seem small, the ramen is filling and you'll leave feeling super full, which is something to be thankful for. It's a must-try if you're in the city. And the price is more than reasonable for the quality and experience they offer.

Hands down our favorite spot we ate at during our week in Amsterdam. The whole menu is plant-based and everything we tried was amazing—especially the cold starters and the ramen (some of the best we’ve ever had). Loved the big shared table vibe and the staff were super friendly and welcoming.

Everything was super tasty, balanced and the different textures and flavors of the food were perfect for me. The waitresses and chefs are very nice and attentive. All around it is a great (taste) experience. I also found the information cards very interesting and well designed. You can really tell that a lot of (vegetable) passion goes into everything!

El restaurante no se trata solo del ramen, se obtiene una comida de 5 platos con muchos platos más pequeños (fríos y calientes) , ramen y desierto. Tienen una muy buena selección de sake. El ambiente es relajado y la gente que trabaja aquí es muy amable. Otro crítico escribió ''Este lugar es para todos, veganos o no. '' y estoy de acuerdo. Si vinieras aquí sin saber que era un restaurante vegano, no te perderías la carne, pescado, lácteos, etc. para cuando termines de cenar porque todo está muy sabroso.

Two people from our party are vegans and the other two aren’t (myself included) and every dish was a crowd pleaser. Great, calm environment with excellent service. It can be pretty warm inside so just keep that in mind when you get dressed. :)

The chef of the place, who happens also to be a WOMAN ( clap clap!) is a freaking GENIUS!!! The menu is amazing with rich flavours , the ramen is top ! And the dessert is super nice as well. Thumbs up And congratulations also to the team there, from the people in the kitchen to the lovely waiters who were working with a smile and being very attentive 🥰 the best gem we found in Amsterdam and one last thing. We had an amazing 5-course meal with flavors that gradually built up and danced in my mouth. The sake was tasty, the staff super chill, and the chef was a highlight. Only the dessert was a bit of a miss for me, but that’s just because I’m not a big fan of matcha. Bonus points: I got to chat with the chef about bringing back the legendary champignon ramen from Kitchen Impossible—please make it happen! Still dreaming about that bowl.

It was our first time eating at Men Impossible, and the experience far exceeded our expectations. Having been to Japan several times, it’s not easy to be surprised by Japanese food outside of Japan. Our dinner at Men Impossible felt like being back at a Buddhist temple: with the flavors, the attention to detail, and the endless kindness. This definitely goes to the top of my list of restaurants in Amsterdam.

Walked in just after opening time and we were able to grab the two seats by the window. Seems to be a limited menu in that spot but that didn’t impact the quality of the food - best ramen we’ve ever eaten! Strongly recommend the burnt garlic amazemen (top right of menu) and the dumplings.

My favorite restaurant in Amsterdam! A bit pricey for my budget, but definitely my first choice for special occasions. You get a lot of food, so come hungry. I tried their ramen at another location in Amsterdam, which was quite nice. What I liked the most about this experience is that you get to try out so many different tastes and textures. It's like Japanese tapas. A lot of the dishes were very interesting, like potato mochi, freeze dried tofu or tofu ice cream. I am vegan, so this was heaven for me, however I know many non-vegan people that love this restaurant, so don't let the word vegan scare you.

My experience here was outstanding in every way. The red chili dipping noodles/tan tan tsuke-men were one of the most delicious things I’ve had in a while, along with the fresh yuzu sake cocktail. The owner and kitchen team were delightful. I can’t recommend this special place enough. Make sure to enjoy a stroll through the neighbourhood afterwards!
