This is one of the best ramens I’ve tried in Amsterdam so far. The Special Vatten with the rich foamy broth was phenomenal.

If you love Ramen and a japanese styled restaurant. You simply NEED to eat at this place. The food is delicious and very fresh. The service is very friendly and open for a friendly chat. We had a beautiful place with view to the canals and seeing ships passing by was a joy. If I'd been a resident in Amsterdam this would be my favourite go-to place for Ramen!

Just the best Ramen and the spicy edamame was delicious and very different from your standard spice. Service was friendly and fast. Window seats over looking the canals are a great spot to watch the world go by.

Still good, just not what it was. I’ve been coming to Vatten Ramen regularly for the past 3 years and it’s always been one of my top recommendations in Amsterdam, great food, lovely setting, friendly staff. My most recent visit was unfortunately a noticeable step down. The food is still good, but clearly not what it was, quality has dipped and portions are smaller, while prices have gone up considerably. Amsterdam’s ramen scene is competitive, and Vatten used to stand out. These changes feel like the wrong trade-off: less for more. It’s now a solid but average option rather than the standout it once was. Still worth a visit if you’re nearby, but no longer the easy recommendation it used to be.

Really excellent ramen and very friendly staff! I came in just before the kitchen closed for the night and asked to have whatever they recommend to get my order in on time. Honestly I had no idea what I ordered! The tantanmen ramen that came was excellent and I couldn't have chosen better myself. Spiced pork and beef mince topped tender chicken fillets in a flavourful and slightly spicy broth. The noodles themselves were chewy and had a delightful and satisfying bite. The rooibos iced tea was a perfect complement, brightening the meal. Staff handled this all with excellent charm and made me feel right at home. Highly recommended!

It was a pleasure to dine at this lovely restaurant, located right infront of the canals. The food and service were both fantastic, our waitress Francisca was the absolute best! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes ramen or Japanese style food. Definitely reccomend making a reservation if you want to sit by the window for a gorgeous view of the canal!! :)

Authentic Gyoza, delish Ramen. Spicy is not spicy but very much recommended. Matcha Panna cotta was nice as well. I recommend the Kogane Umeshu Sake for dessert. Crew was very welcoming and dogs ate allowed. Thanks a lot

Been here a few times now, and the chicken karaage is insane. The ramen can be excellent, but the broth quality is not consistent. Some days it’s great, some days it’s just not there. “The vase-shaped bowls” they use completely ruin the ramen experience. They are uncomfortable to eat from, food gets stuck, and it somehow feels like you get less ramen for the same price. The traditional bowls were much better. What makes it worse is the portion of meat. Serving two paper-thin slices of chicken in a huge bowl just makes no sense. The amount of meat they use is honestly a joke. For the price, the balance between broth, noodles, and toppings should be much better. Another issue is the inconsistency in service. Some waiters are genuinely nice, but others can make customers feel unwelcome for simple requests like asking for another table, especially when you made a reservation. For a place charging a bit above average prices, that part is disappointing. The food is good enough that people will keep coming, but that should not be an excuse for inconsistent, unpleasant hospitality. Really hope they improve the consistency, bring back proper bowls, fix the meat situation, and keep the overall experience at the same level as the food.

A very good experience. After a long day exploring the city or doing other activities, what could be more comforting than a good bowl of ramen soup? We thoroughly enjoyed it. And we even went back a second time during our stay.

It was very good, we really enjoyed it, great ramen. The service was rather unfriendly; the table was being cleaned almost as soon as we got up, and as is often the case, my husband, who is in a wheelchair, had to adapt to the layout of the room and wherever the waitress decided to place the wheelchair. A complete inability to accommodate a disability. ...a shame

One of my new favorite restaurants!! The food is so delicious and their cocktails are too. The atmosphere is really chill (at least downstairs) and we loved the big window by the water. 10/10 experience!! (Also a lot of vegan options available)

We got lucky with a prime seat with a view and seated immediately, but recommend a reservation if you can plan ahead. We both got the Vatten Ramen and I got the Szechuan chili oil to add. Both were phenomenal and I would probably try the spicy ramen next time. Was a perfect meal for a chilly spring day in Amsterdam. Ginger kombucha was a great touch. Friendly and helpful staff!

Not bad, but nothing extraordinary! Very expensive for what it is (broth and noodles). On the other hand, they ripped us off with the payment; the receipt for our €40 meal was for €45, but we were charged on our credit card. As a matter of principle, we had to go back to get a refund. Check your receipts before you leave!

Upsides: lovely views of the canal out the back, and good food. Nothing outrageously amazing but I enjoyed it very much. I had the Tantanmen Ramen. Super-tasty broth. Maybe not quite enough non-noodle ingredients but you know, that's life. Also had some octopus balls that were basically fishy bitterballen and pretty good. My friend who I went with, however, was less impressed. He was the one who recommended it and as a fellow tour guide had been recommending it to tourists for years. He said he hadn't been there for about a year and in that time it's gone downhill. He said he felt ashamed for recommending it now. He said a year ago it was filled with Japanese customers and now it's all tourists and it's just not as good as it used to be. So maybe take that into consideration too. Still, I liked it, except... Downside: the super-cramped environment can be extremely annoying, especially if you're stuck next to two vacuous screeching American 20-something data analysts with no concept of personal space and nary a thought for anyone but their own obnoxious selves. I would definitely avoid busy times.

very tasty food on a reasonable price

The only place on the street that offered vegan dishes (vegans in Amsterdam use it for vegetarians). Miso ramen was slightly spicy, completely bearable, and really good. Mushroom ramen was out of this world, as were the veggie ravioli, super crunchy and tasty, served with their own sauce. Waitress with a colorful shirt and white-spotted makeup, super kind🫶🏻🫶🏻 €60 for two ramen noodles, a portion of ravioli, and a large bottle of water, an absolutely average price for the quality/quantity and location.

If you’re date wants to try japanese food, this is a great place to start. We had the chicken teriyaki don and the special vatten ramen. 100% recommend and will come back! Just make sure you book in advance the table by the window for a special view of the canal.

The service was friendly, the food average, but Marco's was unfortunately not recommended. I sent it back once, and when it came back, half of it was inedible. I told the server, but unfortunately, they didn't do anything about it.

We arrived and asked for a table for four; they told us 20 minutes and we waited almost an hour. When it was finally our turn, they told us the table was reserved and didn't seat us, not even splitting us into two groups. Very poor organization and even worse customer service.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place for groups. After waiting for over 40 minutes and being assured that our table was ready, they finally told us they couldn't seat us, not even offering alternatives like splitting us between two tables. The service was unprofessional and inhospitable.

After waiting 45 minutes, a table became available, and the waitress told us it would be ready in two minutes. Suddenly, they told us it was reserved and that we wouldn't be able to have dinner there that night. We offered to split up and take two tables for two, since there were four of us. They told us that wasn't possible either… we still didn't understand why, and they ended up kicking us out of the restaurant.

To me the nicest thing about this is place is the view to the canal. That’s it. The staff/service was unfortunately bad, I never got my drink even after asking twice for it. And they do need to smile! 😁 The food was ok. A bit expensive for what you get but it looks like they try different things and that I think it’s good.

If you are seated downstairs you will get such a beautiful view of the canal. The food was exceptional. The service was good. The only thing that was lacking was its drink menu but I respect the fact that they only selected Japanese alcohol. If you want ramen this is a great place to go. I’d make a reservation though on weekend nights.

Really lovely ramen restaurant. Great and friendly service and the atmosphere was amazing. The broth of the ramen was rich and flavourful. First time having chicken char siu which is slightly dry. Noodles were in nice texture. Love their kimchi and edamame as well.

I just can’t understand why a bowl of this kind of ramen can cost over 20 euros. I thought the taste must be amazing, but it turned out to be very ordinary. It doesn’t even have the firmness and chewiness that Japanese ramen is supposed to have. The whole place feels like it only imitates the surface of Japanese style without any real technique, and the pricing is ridiculously high

The welcome was not very friendly at all. We felt more like we were bothering the staff than being properly welcomed. As for the food, the ramen was okay, but nothing more. Not bad, but absolutely not amazing either. We genuinely don’t understand the overly enthusiastic reviews claiming it’s “incredible” or “mind-blowing”. This place is clearly overrated. A special mention for the so-called “thicc” noodles — they were not thicc at all, which was disappointing, especially since it’s something they highlight. The price is completely exaggerated for what you get. The value for money is simply not there. And the final straw: near the end of our bowl, we asked for a bit of spicy sauce, as the ramen was quite flat in terms of heat. We were told “yes” without any mention of an extra charge and were given a tiny saucer of sauce. 👉 Only after leaving the restaurant did we notice we were charged €2 for it. Honestly, that feels borderline theft. Overall, a huge disappointment. The restaurant is massively overrated, to the point where we even question the authenticity of some Google reviews. Won't be coming back—there are much better ramen places in Amsterdam for less money. The service was frankly not very welcoming: you feel more like you're bothering them than being received. Some of the best ramen I ever ate. And I eat a lot of ramen! I was feeling under the weather and was looking for good chicken soup. Every place had the wrong soup until I found Vatten Zeedijk. Because my back was sore, I asked for a table with a chair, not a stool. I was directed downstairs to a cozy room, where there were some chairs. I'm glad I asked because the view from downstairs is at canal level! I noticed a terrific abstract art piece in the stairwell and was delighted to find even more excellent pieces on all the walls. Even the music was exactly what I needed. Then, the ramen was served. The chicken was tender and perfectly done. You could break it with the chopsticks. The spiced egg was the best I've had in Amsterdam. The black mushroom was very generous, and the noodles were fresh. If you like ramen (or just chicken soup), go to Amsterdam and try Vatten. Reservations are usually required.

Had the special Vatten ramen which is good, the toppings are interesting, the texture of the soup is really special. Only problem I had with it is that it was quite salty.

Nothing on the menu for people with allergies, plus the rice they served us wasn't freshly made and was mushy and stuck together. It's still on the table. And on top of that, they charged us for it.

The ramen is truly excellent, and the prices are more than fair for such a quality product. The service and venue are both nice and adequate. I highly recommend it.

We received a very warm welcome at this restaurant and the ramen was excellent. The waiter was incredibly kind; we were in a hurry and he did everything he could to ensure we received our meal on time. I highly recommend it.

I was craving a good bowl of ramen and Vatten Ramen was exactly what i needed! Went for the Special Vatten ramen that had a heavenly broth, delicious Char siu chicken and perfectly cooked egg. The corn & butter on the side was the cherry on top! Karaage had right amount of batter with a refreshing Yuzu ponzu dip. Will be back for sure .

Had to wait 50min *after* receiving side dishes (35mins after ordering) for ramen with barely any taste. Its understandable it can take longer in weekend, however tables that came afterwards received compensation and we didnt. And a headsup about; 'sorry the ramen will take a bit longer then usual' wouldve been nice! They call it 'Chicken Char Siu' but its just boiled chicken. The side dishes were good tho. The staff is okay. Their 'homemade ice tea' has no taste really. I dont think its worth the money! *we did mention it at the kassa! They didnt offer anything..

The Chicken ramen is not very rich in flavour and considering the price not much in the soup, 3 mushrooms,3 little pieces of meat and some leaves of greens.

Loved this place, I had it in my bookmarks for a long time until I tried it myself. The location is very central and close to the train station. It has a nice view over the Amsterdam canals. The place is quite tiny, and if you want to sit by the windows, you must reserve in advance. If you drop in, you might need to sit at the side bar tables which have long chairs without back support, and some of them don't have hooks unders the table for your jacket. The food was good, we chose vegan options and we loved it.

Who would have thought you could eat authentic Japanese ramen while looking out at the canal?

I was there last night (a Thursday night). Had my mind not been set on eating ramen, I would have given up! Had to wait 5 mins at the door to be greeted, even though the place was far from full. Then, I think the waitress forgot I existed since it took her like 15 mins to bring me a menu. At least, the ramen was decent.

Was really excited to visit the place cause it seemed like the food was good! Unfortunately when we were seated a mouse appeared near the table. Not sure if it was cause the door was open when we entered or points to a general problem but we left after informing the personnel whom apologized but did not seem too surprised

Ramen is just ok, I dont find it memorable compared to other ramens. Also pricy. Had Vatten ramen and the chicken was overcooked. Broth is delicious though. And also the yuzu oolong tea. Overall, it was an underwhelming experience. Had high expectations because of the good reviews.

I really enjoyed the place; we were able to sit down even though we didn't have a reservation, which was great. The atmosphere and music were a great match, with a beautiful view. The food and drinks were delicious: vattan ramen with homemade jasmine ice tea.
