A tasty burger with friendly service.

Upon entering, you're enveloped in the aroma of overcooked bacon and adolescent sweat. The latter is quite remarkable; the heating has been broken for about two months. The menu isn't what it used to be. The sweet potato fries are nowhere to be found. It's absurd to simply remove this from the menu. To score some points with my left-wing date, I ordered a vegetarian burger. I got a burger that tasted like a piece of cardboard, accompanied by—I guess as a consolation—some limp, salt-drenched fries. In hindsight, I would have preferred the battery chicken. That I wasn't the only one who thought this place was suitable for a date was painfully clear when I saw the couple at the table next to me passionately kissing. The combination of the smell, the ambiance (the French kiss), and the misplaced veggie burger made me sprint to the restroom. Huge respect for the staff here, but you won't be seeing me again.

Over the years it has gone down but today was a new low. Apart from the patties which shrunk a lot and are of mediocre beef way too compacted to be called a burger - now they even screw up their fries (like dark brown). We had a guy in our group who couldn’t eat salt so they served the saltless fries with somebody else’s burger. They then said have somebody else eat the fries to later serve the burger which they also got wrong. Asking about the broken ketchup: yes it could be broken. No action taken. Quite a different world from when there were sauce bottles (mayo and ketchup ) on every table and additional bottles on a central place. Can’t wait for this last location to close and get something tasty in return.

Dear Mr. Smakers, it might be a good idea to inform your customers that you don't have (working) heating in the restaurant. When you walk in cold, with the temperature around zero degrees outside, and you order immediately, you have no idea. But when you sit down, you have to wait and eat in a freezing restaurant. It's almost impossible to enjoy the food. It seems only right that a warning is issued at the door or by the staff. It was dismissed as "a known problem," followed by the comment, "We're experiencing this too." I think the food is really good (and has been for years), but you can't just leave people like that, can you? Do something about it!

Super delicious food, friendly, hardworking staff. Demanding guests with such complex orders (not this, yes that, no vegetables, "Is this the veggie chicken burger or the veggie mushroom burger?") make the atmosphere very stressful for the staff, which I found unfair. We simply ordered a burger, and it was delicious. Particularly nice: fresh bread straight from the oven, delicious meat, and a whole lettuce leaf instead of that silly chopped lettuce you often see; this makes eating so much easier!

I recently went there with two kids, and it was okay. The restaurant was empty and looked a bit run-down. We sat down, and the man behind the bar didn't make any contact. After a few minutes, we realized we had to order at the bar (it hadn't been entirely clear yet). We ordered our food and drinks, and the staff got to work. A little later, the food arrived, but not the drinks. Back to the bar: where are the drinks? The bartender looked at me questioningly, didn't believe it, grabbed the receipt, and then saw the mistake. He quickly gave it to us without an apology, and I calmly returned to the table. There, I enjoyed a fantastic burger with divine fries (just what I needed!). One disappointment: the kids' burger was very salty—it could have been a bit less. The table was cleared afterward, and the staff left without wishing me a happy day. And yet, four stars?! The food was excellent, the flavors were good, and the price was the same. I think it sometimes happens in a moment, or with a specific staff member, and it could be improved.

The food used to be very good here. Haven't been in a long time, but it's not what it used to be. Had to wait a long time, even though there were only two customers in the restaurant. Loaded fries with beef. The beef was tough and the fries were soggy. Threw them away. An impressive amount of leaked grease in the container.

I ordered the basic burger in combo. I did not like the hamburger, the bread was hard. The fries were almost burnt so I left almost all of them. I was disappointed

A bag of brown, limp, lukewarm, stale fries. For 7 euros. No, just don't do it. It sounds more poetic than it tasted. It tasted like regret for putting them in my mouth.

They advertise that all burgers are vegan, but all the buns contain milk. I have a cow's milk allergy and assumed I'd get a hamburger bun. In the end, I did get a burger, but without a bun, and I had to pay extra for the fries I thought I'd get as a replacement for the bun. The counter staff wasn't particularly helpful or friendly either. The music was also unconscionably loud for a restaurant.

Probably one of the best burgers in Utrecht. Staff was always friendly and service was quick. The one thing I miss is the variety they used to have. Please bring back the burger of the month!

Ate here yesterday. I have eaten here more often and had a different experience than yesterday. I understand that it is less pleasant to work because of the heat, but that should not become the customer's problem. It did not really feel like they were in the mood, so less welcome feeling. It also took quite a while before the food was brought (about half an hour) while there were very few other customers. Then they forgot to bring the drinks. The colors and the interior have become much busier. And then there was the busy music (Reggaeton) that was playing yesterday, which does not really suit Meneer Smakers, as I am used to. All in all I found it very chaotic and not nice to eat like that.

Delicious burgers. The meat is well-seasoned, and the sauce gives it a very special flavor. Unlike other burgers I've tried, the bun is golden brown, and you have three bun options to choose from. I highly recommend it if you're around here. 😃

I tried their burger today and do not recommend it. The restaurant was smelly and no other customer was there which was a sign, but i wanted to give the burger a try. The burger was not properly cooked and the bun was not fresh at all. It was totally not worth the money.

We had lunch here on a Sunday. There was 1 employee working by himself. It took ages to for our order to be ready. The burger was a bit overcooked. Atmosphere is great, but the service wasn’t good on this specific day

Eating a burger civilly. I would like to shake hands with this Mr. Smakers. Not only does it taste very appetizing, you can also enjoy it to your heart's content. She doesn't give a shit. A plus from Mr. Roderick as a gift. Four stars shine in the mist. The veggie burger is nice and crispy. The napkins grab the fats perfectly. Yes, this was another great experience. In Utrecht you have Henk Westbroek and Miffy, but also Mr. Smakers. Nice.

What happened Mr. Smakers? The last time we ate here it was truly inedible. The bread seems to be made of dried out cardboard, the burgers are not thin enough to see through them, and I don't even dare to talk about the service. Shame. It was one of the few "fast food" that offered quality. I will continue to Le Smash from now on.

The portions are proportionate to the cost, the service was very kind and quick, and the quality of the ingredients is top!

First of all: The burgers we had were very tasty. The portions are large and the taste was good too. There is still a little room for improvement: Unfortunately, the process from ordering to receiving the food was not intuitive enough for us. Picking up the order was also a bit tricky because you pick up your food from behind the counter yourself. We only knew where exactly it was because everyone goes there. So I think a sign or something like that could help show where the order can be picked up. But even the call as soon as the order is ready is unfortunately quickly lost in a full store. But the service here is great and in exceptional cases, orders that are not picked up, maybe work with beepers or something like that. All in all, we were very satisfied and can recommend a visit.

Not recommended for a Saturday evening. We wanted to have something simple to eat here before the movie. For starters, there were no fries. Furthermore, the order took a very long time to arrive. Furthermore, it was really very dirty and the furnishings and acoustics were very poor, with only about half full it was completely impossible to hear each other.

Unfortunately, things have deteriorated considerably since the new concept. Ate there often when I lived next door, but since the last 2/3 times it really wasn't that good anymore. Quite tasteless last time. Too bad, it really was a top tent in Utrecht.

Worst food, and worst service. Surprised me that there were people there

La comida es buena, buena selección de hamburguesas y bebidas. Las papas fritas son crujientes. Solo nos quedaba esperar 30 + minutos para una hamburguesa a las 17 : 30 el martes. Terminé mi hamburguesa cuando mi amigo la compró. Su hamburguesa (de pollo) tardó unos 45 minutos. Increíble para un lugar con asientos para un máximo de 20 personas. .

Delicious food, but the young man who works there (the only one when we were there) is either just new and then we forgive him or not made for a job where he works with guests. Because he was always on his phone, had Airpods in and spoke at a volume that could only be heard by dogs. That was a bit of a shame. We actually wanted hot dogs but they didn't have them. Burgers were delicious. A bit pricey considering the combination service, But perhaps if they work with more people in the evening, this will go better. There was also a sewage smell around the basement and the toilets. Not very pleasant The restaurant is very nice and cozy.

Just like at the location on the Oudegracht, the music is (too) loud, but fortunately it is not hardcore, but jazz. That compensates somewhat. The fries were very salty. That could be less salty.

We have ordered take-away burgers here 2 times in the last half year. Both of the times we had to wait for ages for them to get our orders ready (just 2 burgers and some fries took literally more than 20minutes to prepare, while there were only 2 other guests in the restaurant). Both of the times the staff was just really un-organized and the kitchen was a mess and not clean, and both of the times our burgers where rather cold (we live just around the corner). On a more positive note; the fries and burgers were tasteful (despite them being cold). The prices are very high though and make it an overall deception. This was the last time Meneer Smakers for us.

I am sorry for the bad rating but while the expectations were high the result was very bad. I don't know if that's how it supposed to be but I got the worst brioche for my burger, what I mean ? It was dry like they let it out of the bag for 2 days...this combined with a not so special burger made it a bad experience . I haven't taste so bad brioche burger before. Also the stuff was friendly but when we enter the restaurant many tables were empty but full of leftovers something that wasn't so appealing. For your inconvenience my visit was the previous weekend.

Very disappointing experience... I had eaten at Mister Smakers on the Oudegracht before, and I was very satisfied with that. Had dinner here tonight, next to the cinema. Unfortunately received the wrong order, even though there was no one else in the restaurant. In addition, my burger was really substandard, I could have done it a lot better for €18... Two girls were serving, nice, but not exactly working. I won't be back there again...

Don't eat a veggie burger here (Layla burger). It is tasteless and has the structure of wet cardboard.

The loaded fries were fine and served quickly. Unfortunately, the steaks were on the tough side. The service also left something to be desired, as the woman behind the bar was very curt and not very friendly. The location itself did not appear very clean and felt somewhat sticky. It was positive that our request to turn down the music was immediately responded to.

Unfortunately we received the wrong order from the cheerful employee - thus we shared a burger instead of both receiving one. Even more unfortunate is the utter lack of response to the contact form. After leaving two messages perhaps they are willing to contact us concerning a refund.

It truly remains an achievement how Mr. Smakers manages to throw us a new curve ball every time we come there for lunch. This time we ordered 3 burgers to take to the office, when opening the order we saw that the 4 euro portions of fries consisted of a small bag of fries that would just fill a child's hand. We decided to go back, while our burgers were getting cold, and upon showing the microscopic portion we were immediately given a normal portion of fries. Finally with the hot fries in our pocket we opened our burgers, which were ALSO COMPLETELY wrong. Ordered extra jalapenos, they were not on it, the cheese sauce that I had not ordered was on it, the portion of extra bacon that I had ordered was on 3 burgers. The only consistent thing about Mister Smakers is how terribly inconsistent they are, truly the Russian Roulette of fast food establishments. It's a good thing that upper management was thinking of tacos/wraps for the menu during our order because they don't want them from the burger joints. Although I sincerely wonder whether they can bring it up to standard. You know, I have 2 chef's diplomas and 15 years of catering experience, I will let you know if I have to come and explain how you should work.

Nice idea, but ridiculous execution. I am in the center of Utrecht on a sunny and chilly Saturday afternoon. Together I look forward to a tasty burger after a few golden juices with some beautiful guys from student life. We go to this decorated tent where the smells intrigue us and we are kindly served and served. However, that's where the positive ends. Citizens with confusing names simply cannot live up to expectations. Chicken is chicken and you shouldn't argue with that. Chicken burger means a tender chicken breast (roasted or fried), which reminds you of someone you shouldn't call. This wet meat slice falls far short of the “I recommend this establishment to my close circle whose bellies deserve a nice moment of pampering.” The box is intriguing and raises the expectations for the big tasting moment even higher, but as a wise man once said: “really sick and empty inside”. Toppings were great tho, first vegetables in weeks (you know the drill). Next time just learn to cook instead of emptying the yuppie wallet of the average visitor.

Very cozy little tent in the middle of Utrecht. The food is incredibly tasty, but due to the lower capacity it is often very busy and you can sometimes wait a little longer for food.

Burger were good. Big burger with a good taste. You can order at the counter and pick it up yourself, but a big hamburger for 10 euros is cheaper than the MCD and you have to walk there yourself!

After initially serving the burgers and having to wait for the fries, after about ten minutes we asked where the fries were. Another ten minutes later, another employee came and told us that we had not ordered this at all. Suppose the latter were indeed the case, why not arrange this immediately by serving what was requested and charging additionally for it? In short, how can it really be that a misunderstanding, which is actually not a problem, is then made so big that you leave this establishment with steam coming out of your ears. Not to be repeated!

Four staff, but 2 tables without food for me... and yet they manage to take at least 20 minutes to make me an order of 1 burger and fries. The person after me in line was told that it would take 10 to 15 minutes. I had to go to the movies, so I ran out without eating to get to my movie on time. Wasted 13.20 euros. How can it take 4 people for so long with the 8 burgers on the 2 tables in front of me... Was the last time at this location. Wasted money. And when I indicated that I was not going to make it, nothing was offered, but only said that he understood. I don't buy anything for it

Unfortunately a disappointing experience, this is not how the concept was presented. Disinterested three staff in an almost empty shop. Accidentally ordered for pickup from the wrong location can happen. Unfortunately, you cannot reach the locations themselves and they also have no way to contact each other. Not customer oriented at all, the lady at the counter still tried to help, unlike her male colleague.

The most soulless burgers with no taste. McDonald's has more taste experience. Without the friendly people behind the bar and the triple A location, this store would be bankrupt in a week.

A few years ago we regularly ordered burgers here. We were in the area again yesterday so we were already looking forward to good vegetarian burgers. Unfortunately the menu has changed. The weed burger had a bland taste, I couldn't detect any paprika relish. The whole thing was quite tasteless. Shame!

Downhill under new ownership. We have enjoyed dinner here for years, but now the service was terrible - we had to wait 40 minutes and they misunderstood our order. The burgers themselves are worse too. The buns are too sweet and taste cheaper then they used too. Can no longer recommend eating here.

You pay for the name/atmosphere. I had a premium burger but there was nothing premium about it, there was no sauce on it and it was quite dry overall. Almost a head of lettuce on bread, which made it difficult to eat. Little further toppings. Overall disappointing. I get a better burger for €6.50 at the snack bar nearby. Only the fries were of good quality.

Very satisfied. A place with affordable but very tasty burgers. The chicken burger is definitely recommended, but I also hear good stories about the other burgers. We were there on a Thursday when student discounts apply. This means that burgers go for half the price if you take two. You still pay full price for fries and drinks, but two burgers are certainly more than enough for yourself.

Some years back I and my brother were served raw burgers here. We tried it twice more to give it a fair chance and had the same result. Undercooked burgers and since then I avoid this place. I wanted to give this place another chance this year and took my wife and child for some sweet french fries and the moment we entered the the place it was reeking of bathroom stink. We looked at each other and left promptly. Either we're very unlucky or this place just isn't a good spot to eat.

It was good for a long time, but is no longer edible. They also hardly have any vegetarian burgers anymore, while that is a matter of making a vegetarian burger instead of meat...

Meneer Smakers used to be great! It used to be a great place to go with a mixed group of vegetarians and carnivores. They used to have the option to make a vegetarian burger of any burger on the menu. Used to.. Now they have a new owner and a new menu. Now it sucks. Such a shame! Don't go here.

We had ordered food, we saw people waiting in front of us, and an empty restaurant. We initially wanted to eat there, but it took so long that we took it with us, the other people before us also opted for to go. Enough staff for the people who were there... 4 male/female staff, but they don't do anything. Especially not a good citizen. About 50 euros outsourced to 3 people for a dirty overcooked black burger, very hard bun, black pepper. Delicious... and also had to wait half an hour and eat at home. Thank you, we won't be coming again.

Oh how the mighty have fallen! This burger place used to be so tasty but since it has been taken over, a lot of things changed for the worst. The chips were cold, the burger bread was dry, the vegetables on my "mr smakers burger" were undercooked and very thin, the whole burger lacked taste. And the worst thing was, we were denied a glass of water for the kids! The staff were kind and apologetic but the quality of the food was bad. We won't be coming back.

Great burger, not very special but filling the stomach. The staff was really grumpy and showed little friendliness. The place itself was on the dirty side. Tables were dirty. Asked if they could wipe the table, this was done, but did it make it cleaner...

We have been coming to Mr. Smakers for years, but we were very disappointed yesterday. The burger was very boring and tasteless and very greasy. I wanted a glass for my beer, but I had to drink it from a paper cup. It seems like there is a different owner or something. It doesn't have the vibe it had.

Burgers made just how I would aim to make them at home 🤣 - good quality ingredients like a good roll and fresh salad to balance everything up 👌

Ik ben enorm geschrokken van hoe ze mijn bestelling heeft klaargemaakt. Het meisje wat mijn bestelling heeft gemaakt pakte frietjes uit de zak om zelf wat frietjes te eten voordat ze hem mij gaf, vreselijk onbeschoft!!! En ook zat er een haar in mijn eten wat mij niks verbaasd aangezien ze met haar losse bos haren over het eten hing. Ze moeten flink wat gaan doen aan de hygiëne want dit kan niet.

Leuke tent voor een snelle burger, die erg goed smaakte. Goede porties. Sfeer is beetje een Amerikaanse diner, maar goed en gezellig als t vol zit.

Teleurstellend. Bij een burgertent verwacht je in ieder geval goed vlees en dat hebben ze hier niet. Lijkt allemaal heel wat met de toppings maar uiteindelijk gaat een goede burger toch om het vlees en de eenvoud van een burger? Vlees is taai en naar mijn idee van slechte kwaliteit. Mijn advies zou zijn een andere burgerbar te zoeken, zoals ‘de burgerbar’ die wel begrijpen wat een goede burger moet zijn. Positief punt is overigens de frietjes. Die zijn lekker :).

Easy-going place for an afternoon burger!

Eten is helaas achteruit gegaan en het drinken is onbeschoft duur voor zo'n informele burgertent. Klein blikje bier kost €5,25 (!)..

Waren hier even na ons bezoek ah Louis Hartloper Complex voor een lunchje. Wilde eigenlijk iets vd kleine trek. Dochter en schoonzoon gingen voor iets groters en namen een soort frites kapsalon en een hotdog. Zeer grote smakelijk porties . Wij besloten v drie personen frites met te nemen. Ook heerlijk grote porties grove zelfgemaakte frites. Helaas iets te doorbakken en zout . Maar denk dat de kok iets te enthousiast was geweest en dit niet "the usual is" 🤞. Want vd rest goed eten en heerlijk grote porties. Daarom 4 sterren.

De burgers zijn nog steeds lekker, maar de nieuwe broodjes zijn een enorme stap terug. Het zijn zompige, kleffe broodjes die de hamburger direct een goedkopere snackbaruitstraling geven en de burger minder smakelijk en lastiger te eten maken. Daarnaast is er wel erg scheutig zout over de frieten uitgestrooid.

Onlangs hier weer gegeten. De burger tent als uitvalsbasis als ik elders burgers wil scoren dan mijn favoriet aan de Schoutenstraat, waarvan ik de naam niet zal noemen hier. Meneer Smakers was tot kort voor Covid altijd een kwalitatieve burger-boer. Ik weet niet wat hier is gebeurd (zowel Ledig Erf als mijn overbuur Nobelstraat), maar de magie is er echt af. Droog brood die prikt en pijn doet aan mijn gehemelte als ik er een hap uit neem, lijkt overigens meer op een AH volkoren bolletje dan een echte hamburger 'bun'. Verder zat er een schijf tomaat in die qua dikte minstens 2cm hoog was. Zo leek het meer op een bolletje Broodje Ben dan een hamburger. De frietjes waren overigens lauw en niet heel vers meer. Het restaurant (keten) lijkt meer te geven om zijn hippe uitstraling (daarvoor 10 punten / 5 sterren!) dan waar het echt om draait.

De burger is lekker en goed gemaakt. De portie friet is erg klein en eerder gereed dan de hamburger (de friet is al lauw, terwijl de burger wel warm is). Het personeel is vriendelijk, maar mag wel wat enthousiaster in de keuken / achter de kassa staan. Je kunt nu duidelijk zien dat het scholieren / studenten zijn die vooral afwachtend achter de balie staan.

Helaas zeg. Waar we voorheen meestal prima burger afhaalden, vandaag echt niet ok. Het is n heel ander samengestelde burger, kwalitatief echt veel slechter: nieuwe eigenaar/kaart? Er zijn ook minder keuzes qua burgers. Je kunt brood niet meer kiezen: nu standaard (onsmakelijk) wit brood. Koud broodje, lauw warme burger, taaie plak aubergine en koude gegrilde paprika. Frites waren slap en taai.

Chemische bittere nasmaak na het eten van een burger, brood melig. Medewerker werkte zonder handschoenen, zonder handen wassen en raakte elke keer zijn telefoon aan. Een paar jaar geleden was Smakers erg goed, nu is daar niks meer van over. De prijs is zowat een derde duurder en het is niet meer smakelijk, ik zat de burger met tegenzin naar binnen te werken. Je kan het idd beter zelf maken.

Heb hier laatst opnieuw besteld na een teleurstellende eerste keer, dit keer was de bezorging netjes op tijd en het eten was ook heerlijk. Goede verbetering!
