Miyagi & Jones Haarlem in Oude Stad

I wanted to love this restaurant, but in the end…meh. We came on the all you can eat buffet night. Excellent value if you order more than three dishes per person and it includes a dessert. We were hungry, so we definitely got good value. But the food sounds great in the description on the menu and has very decent presentation on the plate, but most of the dishes tasted absolutely mediocre and several were actually kind of gross. For example, Chicken wings were goopy, not crispy as expected, duck pancakes …duck was overcooked and dried out, scallop with glass noodles had huge scallops but were completely undercooked(I hope I don’t get sick… I only ate part of it and stopped when I realized that the scallop was so undercooked) . I’m pretty sure it wasn’t supposed to be‘ a raw dish. And on and on. Sushi was decent but average. Four out of five at Best, but it looked nice on the plate. Dessert was the only thing that deserved a five out of five. We had the caramel cheesecake. Unfortunately, we ordered it on their electronic menu with our last three regular dishes, and the cheesecake came first which we ate, followed by a huge basket of mediocre garlic bread, and fatty/goopy Korean ribs. So if you want dessert, you have to order it separately because they don’t keep track of the order of the food and will bring a dessert before the last savoury dishes that you order. We felt wasteful, but after eating the delicious dessert, we did not want to eat a giant basket of mediocre garlic bread and slightly gross tasting ribs.

The concept sounds great. The menu looks good and the food served looks fine too. However, it does not taste at all like it looks or like we had hoped. We have been here for the third time now and we really gave it a chance, partly because of the reasonably good reviews. But this restaurant is not for us. We really consider the taste of the food to be the most important aspect of a restaurant, and we missed that too much here in most of the dishes.

Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. It was on the table within a minute, but the quality really left a lot to be desired. Compared to our first visit a few years ago, we feel that the quality has declined significantly. Very unfortunate and, as far as we are concerned, a missed opportunity. Unfortunately, for us, there is no reason to come back again.

One of our regular spots in Haarlem, and for good reason. We come here regularly and it practically never disappoints. The cocktails are top-notch and the dishes are tasty, surprising, and just a little different from the average place. The price is great for what you get and the atmosphere is always good. The location is also very beautiful. In short: it's the kind of place you keep coming back to because you basically already know it's going to be good.

We really enjoyed ordering a variety of small plates and sharing them. The electronic ordering makes it simple to add on to your order at any time. Everything we tried was well prepared and arrived shortly after ordering. We'll be looking for more restaurants using this model.

The food is absolutely incredible, really good value for money they do fantastic deals where you can order a few rounds to share at a time, love the interior very funky and the vibe is so nice and relaxed but also feels like a nice experience to be there! Always go back

Quite dark inside, small tables for two, and Digital Dining (i.e., ordering via a tablet). While there may be less personal pressure, the traditional hospitality and interaction with the staff are diminished. The service was certainly friendly, but my cousin was served her dishes before me every time because mine took longer to prepare. So I was left staring at an empty plate... It was very pleasant with my cousin, but I wouldn't be quick to go back here.

The ambiance looks great! The menu provides a very detailed list of allergens in each dish upon request. Some dishes are supposed to be gluten-free! But beware: the possibility of cross-contamination isn't considered! And if a dish labeled gluten-free suddenly has fried onions on it, celiac patients should be cautious. Unfortunately, I didn't feel well after eating it... 😞

Surprisingly good, friendly service, atmospheric place, generous portions, but above all, the food was delicious! Definitely worth a repeat visit. Thanks Miyagi and Jones!

I am never going here again!!! This was always my favorite place to go out for dinner until the very last time. After the first small dish, the whole table was nauseous and full... I was really vomiting after two bites, even though I walked in feeling hungry. Since everyone at the table was suffering from this, I am absolutely convinced that they throw something into your food (like MSG) to make you feel full quickly, so you skip rounds and just have tea instead of dessert. Maybe they accidentally put too much of that MSG junk in ours, but everyone had different dishes and was nauseous... We saw many tables ordering only tea with dessert, which actually says enough, because the dishes are quite small. The last round is €12.50, so your cup of tea is €12.50.... Furthermore, they charge truly ridiculous prices for what you get in return. What should have been a fun night out turned into nothing but an evening of being made sick for their profit and costing an arm and a leg. I find it simply outrageous, a bunch of scammers!

Particularly disappointing. Literally not a single dish had any real flavor. The quality, which used to be reasonably good, has unfortunately deteriorated enormously. The level of previous visits was nowhere to be found. For us, this is the last time at Miyagi and Jones for the time being.

Ordered two mains and the duck pancakes on Uber Eats. Food arrived cold and the duck pancakes had no pancakes included. I raised a ticket and received 4.55 refund which is simply not good enough for food at such a price point, especially when the cold duck and cucumber had to be thrown in the trash. What a waste.

With all due respect, but this really wasn't good; the food had a musty smell and taste. The staff cleaned our table with a dirty cloth; the table didn't smell good afterwards. I had to throw up after this; it really wasn't great, except for the duck, which was tasty.

I ate a delicious roti roll on King's Day. The roti roll was truly of exceptional quality. I am a chef myself and have rarely eaten such a delicious roti roll. Highly recommended!

Had such a great time at Miyagi & Jones!! This place is perfect if you’re into sharing-style dining and trying a lot of different flavors in one go. The portions are on the smaller side, which I actually loved because it lets you explore the menu properly. Most dishes are around €12, and I ended up having 4 to feel full (and honestly, I don’t even eat that much usually!!). Everything I ordered was on point, like really good across the board, but the Peking duck with crepes… wow. That one stole the show for me, super flavorful and just done right!! We did have a small issue with the iPad ordering system, but it didn’t ruin anything. Rick stepped in, handled it smoothly, and genuinely made an effort to improve our experience. You can tell when someone actually cares, and he really did!! The vibe, the concept, the food, it all works together. Definitely a spot I’d recommend if you’re in Haarlem and want something a bit more fun and interactive than a regular dinner. I’ll 100% be back!!

This place is a real winner! We ate there on "all you can eat Thursday". Wide selection, dishes arrive quickly, are beautifully presented, taste delicious, and the service is friendly. Lovely ambiance, beautiful establishment. Good wines and table water is free. In short, amazing! We will be back.

Average at best as a food experience, but the atmosphere, drinks, and deep fried snacks were good- Great vibe and decor, it really feels like an interesting night out rather than a standard restaurant. Drink choice is extensive, good choices for drinkers and non drinkers. Ice teas, spicy mango which really tasted like chili pepper, cocktails and many types of beer. Food was unfortunately not very good. I wanted to like it but after trying seven different dishes there was nothing we loved, and a few we really didn't like. Specifically - Avocado/mango/shrimp salad was ok but a bit weird. It seemed the shrimp had a dressing but the salad leaves just tasted like salad leaves, dressing not present or bland. Scallop with glass noodles was the worst by far. It had about four tablespoons of completely burnt chopped garlic mixed in. You could taste nothing else. Korean ribs were tasty, sauce really rich. The ribs were a bit dry but the sauce covered that. Nice touch having a bit of rice on the side. Fried cauliflower tasty, well cooked, not to hard or mushy, nice sauce drizzle. Dumpling trio was a bit disappointing. Three boring little dumplings for 12 euros. Crispy mushrooms were tasty. This seems to be the level of the restaurant. They can fry something and put a sauce on it. Chocoreo dessert was generous for two. It's a sugar bomb, kind of a kids dessert, but I'm fully onboard with that.

Beautiful, very youthful place. The rolls and gyoza are delicious. Prices are high, but in line with other places, especially the location.

When visiting the local windmill that is under construction, I asked a local if they could eat anywhere, what would they choose. This place was 1 of 2 places recommended. We entered and immediately were seated without having a reservation. The staff speak English fluently and explained how the ordering system worked. We used the pad to order our food. It was nice to see pictures of what the items were when placing the order. We ordered 5 dishes and they came out hot and flavorful. We were not disappointed as each dish was original in taste yet unique on presentation. We would visit here again and do highly recommend to either the tourist or to the new family in town. Prices are fair.

I went for the 3-course menu with 2x2 small dishes and a dessert. Mango shrimp salad where the frozen mango was barely thawed. The other 3 dishes were tasty, but very small. The dessert was a mango macaron that was impossible to cut through. I suspect it was frozen and ready-made. The ice cream was still edible, but I left the thawed, sticky macaron untouched. I like the concept, nice atmosphere and friendly staff, but too expensive for what you get (it should at least be fresh and not frozen).

Enjoying sharing street food together. Informal, tasty, and varied. It is a pity that not all choices apply every evening. All you can eat versus à la carte and 3-course menu. It was very pleasant and we were served well.

The food is no longer what it used to be. Sushi, which was supposed to be warm and crispy, was cold and tough. The meat was not tender and lukewarm. After 2 years, this was a major letdown. The cook stands with a squeegee and cleaning supplies and then continues preparing sushi with the same gloves. We were done immediately.

We had a delicious meal last Saturday; the staff were friendly and stopped by occasionally to ask if everything was to our liking. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves throughout. We sat downstairs next to the stairs, a lovely spot, and weren't bothered by the crowds at all.

The food was comparable to an old bouquet of flowers in pretty packaging. The share food concept is rich in choice, which meant we could be disappointed by many dishes: sushi crammed with low-quality maio and colshaw toppings, veal was hard and rubbery, chicken wings had hairs on them and a horrible sauce, the mango and avocado salad had no avocado, and the scallops were spoiled, yuck! The only really tasty ones were the calamari and the desserts. The service was nice, but the quality of the food was far below par. Never going back!

Very low effort food and service. Been here multiple times, but seems getting worse. Fried mushrooms were tasteless, super greasy and half cooked inside. The staff runs away before you get a chance to ask something. Not demanding anything special, just don’t be lazy and do your job…

I thought it was overpriced for the price. The food was good but not exceptional. The drinks were expensive and few. My glasses of wine were down within six sips. The service was also disappointing; the concept was poorly explained, and despite a lot of staff milling around, I had to struggle to ask questions. Only went for cocktails. They dont have a Menu with tea/coffee on it. Guys where is your menu with Irish coffee, and Sake mentioned in it? Its not on the table! The server shows me an Ipad to order. The cocktail are good. Go on fridays for music and offer. They have Sake and Soju. Very good selection of drink and desserts. I’ll try food later. But please fix your menu situation.

The food was delicious, but the portions were tiny. The atmosphere is really great. Ordering via tablet takes some getting used to, especially if it's not explained to you.

Most of the dinner was fine but the garlic chicken we were handed tasted like someone was trying to poison us and the calamares was poorly fried and super rubbery. Its evident that the kitchen cuts many corners, the service was amazing though. Lovely staff!

We came for a nice dinner, but were disappointed. The food was completely unappetizing. The only thing we managed to savor was the duck. The portions were incredibly small. Orders were mixed up—they didn't bring us what we ordered. We waited over half an hour for our drinks and 40 minutes for our fries. The tablet doesn't immediately show the amount of what you ordered. We won't be going back.

We ate at Miyagi & Jones for the first time. The food was tasty and the service was very friendly. However, it was extremely cold inside. We also saw several people inside who did not take off their scarves. Furthermore, there was someone who kept their coat on. We pointed this out to the staff, but unfortunately, no steps were taken to make the temperature warmer. This was the only, but significant, disappointment.

The food is good quality. Unfortunately, the food is just thrown onto the table, at least by the male employee who was serving at the time. It's a nice location with beautiful stained glass. The concept is good, but it's really a kind of disguised food court with a more upscale look. Unfortunately, we also had to wait a very long time before we could order (almost 45 minutes).

We went to dinner with high expectations, but unfortunately, the experience wasn't positive. The food was truly terrible. The chops were overcooked, the lamb tasted bland, and the quality of the meat was subpar. It looked like a trainee chef had prepared the food. Chicken pieces also arrived undercooked, and because the restaurant was quite dark, you couldn't tell at first. I sent them back, and half an hour later, a new portion arrived, apparently microwaved. Ugh! This is unacceptable. Advice: avoid this restaurant.

We went here on my birthday. Really great place to eat. Friendly staff and the food is very tasty. I also like the 3-courses for 42€ option although the dishes were bigger than we expected so in the end we weren't able to finish everything if we were going to fit dessert in as well. Will come back here for sure.

So, we were really excited to try somewhere new for our anniversary. Unfortunately, we were a bit let down. I think there's more hype about the place than what was reality. The food was meh - we took the 3 course menu option - 2 x 2 main courses and 1 dessert per person (total of 5 dishes per person). And we also added 2 a la carte meals. And the reason was because the dishes are pretty small, not very filling if you dont carb load . Out of the 10 dishes from the 3 course, only 2 mains and 1 dessert were actually good. The others were unfortunately not at all worth the prices we paid. (And you can get way more options and overall quality and quantity of food from a few other restaurants in the area - for cheaper.) The atmosphere was okay, unfortunately the upstairs wasn't open, but I chalk that up to the time of the week we went. Staff are very friendly - i really give them props for that. But service was also pretty slow - which was weird as they weren't *that* busy. So overall, not the worst experience, but we won't go again.

This is truly excellent! What a beautiful restaurant. Delicious food. Lovely dishes, a great menu, and everything equally delicious. This is more than worth it to experience what a wonderful concept. The people who work there are all good and sharp. A top-notch experience.

The food and drinks were all delicious. The service was also polite, especially from the Asian male staff member wearing glasses.

We ordered food there, sushis were either blend or not good, I couldn't tell what meat or fish I had on mine, there was just nothing to praise here. I also took some rice and beef, it arrived cold and hard, as if the rice was old. I can't say for the service or atmosphere, but the food will make sure we'll never eat there again.

A very nice restaurant with an interesting concept. You can almost completely customize your dishes. Ordering is done via app. The staff is very friendly. The prices are a bit high. The food was very tasty.

My family and I (3) ordered the 3 course meal. It comes with 4 dishes plus a dessert but they also give you the option to replace it with another dish from the menu. They give you a tablet to order your courses from and you order via the app. This app is so confusing and kept on blocking our orders (keep in mind that we were allowed to order 12 items directly off of the menu and 3 from the waiter) We asked our waiter why the app kept blocking us and she said that we were only allowed to order 1 more additional course from the the menu instead of the 2 that we still had left. We were not in the mood to argue and just decided to leave the matter to try and to enjoy the rest of night. In conclusion service was a 4/10 and the food was a pretty low 5/10. Another thing to mention is that if you have a big appetite and decide to eat here you will not be very happy. For the price you pay for food and the portion sizes you receive it is very disappointing. Will not be returning.

I went here with my girlfriend because we had a concert in Haarlem. The concept is certainly not bad, and the menu was more than enough for us. The food was good quality, but I really hope so for the price they charge. The scallops weren't good, and my girlfriend cried when she ate the chocolate cake because it really wasn't good.

We found the food quite expensive for the small snacks you get, despite the quality being reasonable. We sat upstairs at one of the tables next to the DJ, which for us was at the expense of the atmosphere of a nice evening out together. Personally, I don't think the DJ is an added value in a restaurant, but that may be part of the vibe of this restaurant. In short: staff friendly. Food and drinks very expensive for the quantities/quality.
