A girlfriend and I had dinner here tonight, just the two of us. We stayed the whole evening. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were amazing. Since I can only leave one Google review I am updating! We have been back here multiple times since my original review and each time, Sam and the team exceed our expectations in every way. This weekend was no exception when we took special guests with us to enjoy the experience - they loved it as much as we do! _____________________________________________________________ We used to go the the original Mr Sam and then followed you across the road to the pop up while you renovated. Last night was my first time back since the renovation but my husband has been a few times. It was just amazing. Special thanks to Bento who looked after us. The food was exceptional (special mention for the Robata yakitori), the decor and furnishings are so cosy and stylish and I love that the tables are bigger than ALL similar restaurants and you are not sitting on top of your neighbour. As always, the staff were incredible. Bravo to everyone involved xxx

Delicious food, a very beautiful place, and very good service!

Mr. Sam is a beautiful restaurant with a well-maintained appearance and a pleasant ambiance. The staff is friendly and ensures a warm welcome. The food is tasty, but compared to other sushi places, it is not particularly special. The quality is fine, but it doesn't really distinguish itself culinarily. All in all, it is a nice place to sit thanks to the atmosphere and the interior.

The food was fantastic, worth returning many times. Service was also quite good, despite the fact that everyone we saw seemed newly hired staff, compared to our previous visit a month ago. The ambiance is beautiful but it can get a bit noisy and the background music could be just a little bit lower.

Unfortunately, we were disappointed by our visit to this restaurant. The restaurant looks good and pleasant inside, and the service is attentive, still not as good as in the top restaurants, but at least they try to match the price tag with the service. So, I put 4 stars both for the atmosphere and service. 4 for the atmosphere only because of the crying child at the next table, otherwise it'd be 5. But the reason I gave only 2 stars is the food. It's very far from the price tag they ask and matches more the level of the nearest takeaway sushi shop. Hamachi. One of the pieces was full of blood - the taste was disgusting. The rest of the pieces - really not good at all, nothing special. Scallop roll. Scallop has a very gentle taste, which was fully overwhelmed by the truffle sauce. That's just the bad mix of ingredients and flavors. Otoro nigiri - very good fish, but a little bit too much rice. Still, it was the dish we liked most. Grilled seabass - not bad, but still, it's just a little bit better than the level of the canteen. From the other side, I liked cocktails, they have some interesting options. It's way too overpriced, but at least something not to be disappointed about. P.S.: And serving fake wasabi for the 30 EUR rolls? Really? Yes, the real one is expensive, but for this price you can spend a couple of euros on it.

Wow, you have those evenings when you go out for dinner and all your expectations are exceeded, and that was the case at Mr. Sam. We went out for dinner here for my birthday, and generally speaking, this is a price range we don't frequent very often, so quite chic by our standards, but from start to finish, we were taken on a culinary journey that was truly exceptional. We received fantastic service from our host and really clicked with him, and the food was grandiose—worth every euro in my eyes. We would love to come back here for a special occasion. Just a small tip for the server: explain things a bit more calmly and provide a few more details about exactly what they are, because sometimes it was so fast that it was hard to understand, but 10+ for Mr. Sam this evening! 😍

We went for dinner here on Friday evening around 5:30 PM for a birthday celebration for two. I have to say that the menu isn't super extensive, but what is on it is sufficient. There is a bit of everything (if you want vegetarian, fish, chicken, and meat). I liked the sushi with Crispy Rice tuna the most! The only downside was that we went to order a second round, but the dishes from the first round weren't brought until afterward (by then we were already a bit full). This was actually supposed to come in stages as well, but it would have been nice if the first order had been finished before the second one arrived. The dessert looked better than it tasted (I have had better crème brûlée; the price-quality ratio was a bit off). The atmosphere wasn't super cozy yet because only a few tables were occupied, but around 7:00 PM it got a bit busier and the atmosphere improved. All in all, a nice place and the food is good for the price.

Fresh, high-quality sushi and sashimi. The fish is clearly fresh daily, and the rice is perfectly seasoned. Everything is presented elegantly and with care. A good selection of sake and wines by the glass. Minimalist, tranquil atmosphere, and attentive service. Quality truly reigns supreme here.

I eat here regularly, but tonight was truly disappointing. The dishes seemed less refined and prepared differently. The service, normally very friendly, was also very measured. Perhaps it was a bad evening, but with these prices, you really have to deliver consistent quality across the board. No more Mr. Sam for me for a while.

I just can’t get over how amazing salmon truffle roll was. It was perfection! Miso crème brûlée and Mr.Sam’s new favorite cocktail were really good too

I recently dined at Mr. Sam. The food was delicious and the portions were generous, but unfortunately, the evening felt a bit rushed. Upon arrival, we had to wait a bit and were given a seat at the bar. Because it was still quiet around 6:30 PM and there were plenty of tables available, I asked if we could sit at a table. That wasn't possible, even though later in the evening there were still tables empty. I thought that was a shame. We opted for the €95 per person menu. For that price, you expect a relaxed dinner, but the dishes came out in quick succession. As soon as one plate was cleared, the next arrived. This made it feel like we didn't have much time to relax and enjoy ourselves. The reservation indicated a time slot until 8:15 PM. However, our dessert didn't arrive until around 8:30 PM. We had ordered coffee, and I politely asked if we could stay a little longer, which was fortunate. Still, I would have preferred a more relaxed communication from the restaurant itself, especially since it wasn't full. The dessert was quite filling, but otherwise the food was good. All in all, a delicious meal, but for this price range, the experience could have felt a little less rushed.

Lose the dress code thing. You lose clients by treating them so arrogantly.

The food is amazing. The flavors are spot on, and this is what dining out is all about. Everything is refined, truly delicious, and you can taste the passion in the food. The staff is also incredibly professional and makes everything effortless. Teun was a fantastic help. Highly recommended.

The food is good but pricy. And they are trying to be too posh for their own good. I live around the corner and went there on a Sunday evening and was greeted by 'we do have a dresscode here'. Not even in Michelin star restaurants have i ever been greeted like this. I ate there but i won't be going back

One of the best restaurants I've been to. The restaurant looks beautiful and the atmosphere is great. The service was also good, but the food was definitely the highlight. The gyoza and sushi were delicious. The dessert was also highly recommended. Everything was perfect from start to finish. I will definitely be back!

I had high expectations and I'm not a picky eater at all. I took two friends out for dinner. Literally all the food was served cold, but luckily one dish was served warm. I'm not one to complain, but the guy asked if it tasted good, and I said yes, just a shame everything was cold. The guy replied, "Oh, okay," and walked on. With every new cocktail I ordered, I had to ask for straws. I even got up for one. Definitely not going back! There are much better restaurants in Amsterdam.

The chef cannot take any criticism, he simply says no to guests, what is so difficult about a piece of blood that is overcooked and is simply rejected by that arrogant chef who cannot handle criticism

Unassuming from the outside, not immediately recognizable as a restaurant. The entrance alone is impressive. Inside, we received a friendly welcome at the coat check and were shown to our table. The ambiance is beautiful and elegantly furnished, with relaxing background music. At our table, the waiter greeted us and introduced us by name. The drinks were excellent, and the selection was superb! The food was divine, and the best part was the concise and well-chosen menu – not a sprawling, confusing one. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Amsterdam!

We visited Mr. Sam for the first time since their renovation, and we were extremely disappointed. The food was mediocre, definitely not the old Mr. Sam standard we were used to. My dish was bland and tough, and my friends' dishes were also completely flavorless. The price-quality ratio is completely out of whack! But that wasn't even the worst part. The service was absolutely terrible! We haven't experienced such poor service at a supposedly "upscale" restaurant in a long time. The staff was arrogant and completely inattentive. When I gently tapped the waiter (because we'd been waiting so long for a dish they'd forgotten and no one was paying attention to us), he reacted with irritation. Everyone at the table noticed, and it made dining at Mr. Sam very uncomfortable. We just wanted to leave! Never again!

Innovative flavors, delicious dishes!

Looking for a great sushi place then Mr Sam has a great selection. This was an impromptu visit after a work trip. The food did not disappoint. The staff are super friendly and it’s a great dining experience

A wonderful sushi experience! The nigiri was super fresh and melted in your mouth, the maki was tightly rolled, and the accompanying soybeans were crispy and fresh. The service was relaxed, but attentive when you needed water refills. I did find the lighting in the restaurant a bit dim, though.

We went for a business dinner here recently and decided to go for a tasting menu (95 eur pp). The variety, taste, quality and quantity of the food was exceptionally good. Service was also great. Really enjoyed the whole experience

We paid a deposit for our reservation with our Platinum credit card, but after explaining that my wife has a rare pregnancy-related illness (which is a sensitive issue for us right now) and that this is why we can't come, the reservation cannot be rescheduled or refunded. We waren er niet meer geweest sinds de verbouwing. Wat een prachtige sfeervolle tent geworden. De gerechten waren top en mooi opgediend. De bediening was vriendelijk. Al met al, zijn we zeker van plan terug te komen.

Best combination of exceptional food and incredible drinks I’ve ever had. It’s extremely hard to do both food and drinks at a high level but they do it seamlessly. Our waiters Niels, Levi, and our bartender Dyson have to be some of the best in the world. Very skilled and attentive. Would recommend to anyone because it’s well worth the price.

We had a wonderful meal with a group of seven at Mr. Sam. Highly recommended, especially the sushi! The ebi tempura, spicy tuna aioli, and soft-shell crab were my favorites. Highly recommended! We spent about €100 per person. One area for improvement would be the music getting louder and louder on Friday night. I understand they're trying to create a "club" atmosphere, but they're not supposed to get anyone dancing, and by the end, it was so loud you could barely hear each other. Otherwise, we had a fantastic evening.

Very tasty, good service, but a bit pricey. Great for a one-off if you have something to celebrate, for example. You do need to be able to handle quite loud music. There was a DJ playing, which was nice, but it could be a bit quieter.

Booked here tonight after hearing many good stories. Made a reservation online and paid €60 in advance with AmEx. Always annoying, but ok this time. Reception was fine. Trendy place, beautiful interior and large bar in the middle. Friendly lady and we had a delicious meal. However, I do have a few comments and points for improvement. The price is in no way in proportion to the quality. - When I arrived, I asked if I could charge my bike. At home, the charger had not charged properly, so the battery was empty. The lady behind the reception desk went to ask and would let me know. Unfortunately, I did not see her for the rest of the evening. - When paying, it turned out that we could not pay with an AmEx card. And that while I had paid the deposit with Amex when making the reservation. Very annoying. And that for a restaurant where you pay more than €100 per person, that is really not acceptable. - So I limited the tip to 4% instead of the 15% that I always give as a minimum. - When we left, our waiter reacted very grumpy, but that must have something to do with the previous point. We had a great meal, but I won't be coming back here.

Had a good meal here years ago. Now I made another reservation for which I had to pay 30 euros. The restaurant turned out to be renovated and now looks more like a nightclub. Above each table there is a speaker playing loud lounge music. My friend who I had arranged to meet is hard of hearing and was very bothered by the music. so I asked if they had another table. But the music is equally loud everywhere in the restaurant. When we asked if the music could be turned down, that was not possible and a DJ would come later and then it would be even louder. We explained that it would be impossible for my friend, but there was no understanding for that. Too bad! We were therefore forced to leave. But they really couldn't start reimbursing the 30 euros! What arrogance, what incredibly bad service! We will never come back here!

After the renovation and the introduction of the new menu, we decided to visit again, but unfortunately, the experience was abit underwhelming. Some dishes – such as the sushi, oysters, truffle chicken, sashimi, and spicy edamame – were really good. Others, like the pork belly skewers, tiradito, aubergine, and miso crème brûlée, lacked strong or distinctive flavors. Previously, nearly every dish on the menu stood out, with the short ribs and lemongrass chicken being clear highlights; that level is no longer consistently met. Would go back, but mostly for the sushi. Additionally, the music on Friday night was so loud that it was difficult to have a proper conversation. When we kindly asked if it could be turned down, we were told it wasn’t possible because "it’s Friday night" – a bit disappointing. That said, service from Teun was excellent – very friendly and attentive.

Way too expensive and way too small portions. You easily spend 40 euros per person. I am an average eater, but had to go to Febo afterwards for fries because I was hungry. I don't think it's worth the money for what you get.

It was my favourite restaurant in our neighborhood before the new opening. I’m so sad they changed their menu and got rid of all the interesting dishes you couldn’t find somewhere else and were so great, like amazing fish curry and sticky iberico, interesting deserts. Now it’s ‘just’ an elegant sushi place with some extra things to order and mochi as a dessert. Very nice sushi though, don’t get me wrong! But it just seems their uniqueness and boldness went away with the new interior. Looks like any high end sushi place in London - great for pictures but I’m a tad sad about the new menu. Service was and is great. Super professional and friendly.

It was our first day in Amsterdam and we just wanted a quick bite to eat. This restaurant happened to be the nearest well-rated one – and we were pleasantly surprised by how upscale it was when we walked in! We felt slightly underdressed at first, but were warmly welcomed regardless. Even without a reservation, they managed to get us a table, though we were kindly asked to leave after 1.5 hours, which was more than enough time. The concept is similar to tapas – you order 3 to 4 small dishes per person. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the sushi. I’m usually not a fan of sushi, but this one was incredibly fresh and tasty! The service was also lovely and very attentive. The meal was definitely on the pricier side (we paid around €90 for two people), but it was well worth it. A refined experience with amazing food – highly recommended!
