One of the best restaurants I've been to. The restaurant looks beautiful and the atmosphere is great. The service was also good, but the food was definitely the highlight. The gyoza and sushi were delicious. The dessert was also highly recommended. Everything was perfect from start to finish. I will definitely be back!

Delicious food, nice and knowledgeable service!

I had high expectations and I'm not a picky eater at all. I took two friends out for dinner. Literally all the food was served cold, but luckily one dish was served warm. I'm not one to complain, but the guy asked if it tasted good, and I said yes, just a shame everything was cold. The guy replied, "Oh, okay," and walked on. With every new cocktail I ordered, I had to ask for straws. I even got up for one. Definitely not going back! There are much better restaurants in Amsterdam.

The chef cannot take any criticism, he simply says no to guests, what is so difficult about a piece of blood that is overcooked and is simply rejected by that arrogant chef who cannot handle criticism

I had high expectations for this place, but unfortunately, I went home disappointed. We opted for the chef's menu so we could try a little bit of everything. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing, except for the sushi, which was delicious. I was very disappointed with the exorbitant price. The service was super friendly and helpful, with a nice atmosphere inside.

Fantastic Food ! Great cocktails and ambiance.

Unassuming from the outside, not immediately recognizable as a restaurant. The entrance alone is impressive. Inside, we received a friendly welcome at the coat check and were shown to our table. The ambiance is beautiful and elegantly furnished, with relaxing background music. At our table, the waiter greeted us and introduced us by name. The drinks were excellent, and the selection was superb! The food was divine, and the best part was the concise and well-chosen menu – not a sprawling, confusing one. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Amsterdam!

We visited Mr. Sam for the first time since their renovation, and we were extremely disappointed. The food was mediocre, definitely not the old Mr. Sam standard we were used to. My dish was bland and tough, and my friends' dishes were also completely flavorless. The price-quality ratio is completely out of whack! But that wasn't even the worst part. The service was absolutely terrible! We haven't experienced such poor service at a supposedly "upscale" restaurant in a long time. The staff was arrogant and completely inattentive. When I gently tapped the waiter (because we'd been waiting so long for a dish they'd forgotten and no one was paying attention to us), he reacted with irritation. Everyone at the table noticed, and it made dining at Mr. Sam very uncomfortable. We just wanted to leave! Never again!

Innovative flavors, delicious dishes!

Looking for a great sushi place then Mr Sam has a great selection. This was an impromptu visit after a work trip. The food did not disappoint. The staff are super friendly and it’s a great dining experience

A wonderful sushi experience! The nigiri was super fresh and melted in your mouth, the maki was tightly rolled, and the accompanying soybeans were crispy and fresh. The service was relaxed, but attentive when you needed water refills. I did find the lighting in the restaurant a bit dim, though.

We went for a business dinner here recently and decided to go for a tasting menu (95 eur pp). The variety, taste, quality and quantity of the food was exceptionally good. Service was also great. Really enjoyed the whole experience

We paid a deposit for our reservation with our Platinum credit card, but after explaining that my wife has a rare pregnancy-related illness (which is a sensitive issue for us right now) and that this is why we can't come, the reservation cannot be rescheduled or refunded. Mr. Sam is a wonderful place if you have something to celebrate. Wonderful dishes and drinks in a beautiful atmosphere.

We waren er niet meer geweest sinds de verbouwing. Wat een prachtige sfeervolle tent geworden. De gerechten waren top en mooi opgediend. De bediening was vriendelijk. Al met al, zijn we zeker van plan terug te komen.

Best combination of exceptional food and incredible drinks I’ve ever had. It’s extremely hard to do both food and drinks at a high level but they do it seamlessly. Our waiters Niels, Levi, and our bartender Dyson have to be some of the best in the world. Very skilled and attentive. Would recommend to anyone because it’s well worth the price.

We had a wonderful meal with a group of seven at Mr. Sam. Highly recommended, especially the sushi! The ebi tempura, spicy tuna aioli, and soft-shell crab were my favorites. Highly recommended! We spent about €100 per person. One area for improvement would be the music getting louder and louder on Friday night. I understand they're trying to create a "club" atmosphere, but they're not supposed to get anyone dancing, and by the end, it was so loud you could barely hear each other. Otherwise, we had a fantastic evening.

Great food and wines, nice taste combinations, fresh fish and meat, they must have spent lots of attention to their sauces and gravy, we as critic lovers of that, were licking the bowls/plates.. :-) The ambiance is special like an exclusive basement club. Next time we will try the bar seats and the sushi ❤️

Very tasty, good service, but a bit pricey. Great for a one-off if you have something to celebrate, for example. You do need to be able to handle quite loud music. There was a DJ playing, which was nice, but it could be a bit quieter.

A friend and I had dinner here tonight. We spent the whole evening there. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were fantastic. All the staff working that evening were very friendly and provided fantastic service. They really made our evening! All in all, highly recommended.🤩🤩

Beautiful/tastiest restaurant in Amsterdam!!

Booked here tonight after hearing many good stories. Made a reservation online and paid €60 in advance with AmEx. Always annoying, but ok this time. Reception was fine. Trendy place, beautiful interior and large bar in the middle. Friendly lady and we had a delicious meal. However, I do have a few comments and points for improvement. The price is in no way in proportion to the quality. - When I arrived, I asked if I could charge my bike. At home, the charger had not charged properly, so the battery was empty. The lady behind the reception desk went to ask and would let me know. Unfortunately, I did not see her for the rest of the evening. - When paying, it turned out that we could not pay with an AmEx card. And that while I had paid the deposit with Amex when making the reservation. Very annoying. And that for a restaurant where you pay more than €100 per person, that is really not acceptable. - So I limited the tip to 4% instead of the 15% that I always give as a minimum. - When we left, our waiter reacted very grumpy, but that must have something to do with the previous point. We had a great meal, but I won't be coming back here.

Had a good meal here years ago. Now I made another reservation for which I had to pay 30 euros. The restaurant turned out to be renovated and now looks more like a nightclub. Above each table there is a speaker playing loud lounge music. My friend who I had arranged to meet is hard of hearing and was very bothered by the music. so I asked if they had another table. But the music is equally loud everywhere in the restaurant. When we asked if the music could be turned down, that was not possible and a DJ would come later and then it would be even louder. We explained that it would be impossible for my friend, but there was no understanding for that. Too bad! We were therefore forced to leave. But they really couldn't start reimbursing the 30 euros! What arrogance, what incredibly bad service! We will never come back here!

After the renovation and the introduction of the new menu, we decided to visit again, but unfortunately, the experience was abit underwhelming. Some dishes – such as the sushi, oysters, truffle chicken, sashimi, and spicy edamame – were really good. Others, like the pork belly skewers, tiradito, aubergine, and miso crème brûlée, lacked strong or distinctive flavors. Previously, nearly every dish on the menu stood out, with the short ribs and lemongrass chicken being clear highlights; that level is no longer consistently met. Would go back, but mostly for the sushi. Additionally, the music on Friday night was so loud that it was difficult to have a proper conversation. When we kindly asked if it could be turned down, we were told it wasn’t possible because "it’s Friday night" – a bit disappointing. That said, service from Teun was excellent – very friendly and attentive.

Overall it was a great dinner, food was good as well as the service but nothing special.

Way too expensive and way too small portions. You easily spend 40 euros per person. I am an average eater, but had to go to Febo afterwards for fries because I was hungry. I don't think it's worth the money for what you get.

It was my favourite restaurant in our neighborhood before the new opening. I’m so sad they changed their menu and got rid of all the interesting dishes you couldn’t find somewhere else and were so great, like amazing fish curry and sticky iberico, interesting deserts. Now it’s ‘just’ an elegant sushi place with some extra things to order and mochi as a dessert. Very nice sushi though, don’t get me wrong! But it just seems their uniqueness and boldness went away with the new interior. Looks like any high end sushi place in London - great for pictures but I’m a tad sad about the new menu. Service was and is great. Super professional and friendly.

It was our first day in Amsterdam and we just wanted a quick bite to eat. This restaurant happened to be the nearest well-rated one – and we were pleasantly surprised by how upscale it was when we walked in! We felt slightly underdressed at first, but were warmly welcomed regardless. Even without a reservation, they managed to get us a table, though we were kindly asked to leave after 1.5 hours, which was more than enough time. The concept is similar to tapas – you order 3 to 4 small dishes per person. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the sushi. I’m usually not a fan of sushi, but this one was incredibly fresh and tasty! The service was also lovely and very attentive. The meal was definitely on the pricier side (we paid around €90 for two people), but it was well worth it. A refined experience with amazing food – highly recommended!

For me this was the best restaurant in a long time! We had a super sweet waiter, very communicative and very friendly. The atmosphere was also very cozy, nice music and the food was great! Parking was a little less, but it was manageable for such a nice place

Mr. Sam Asian Bistro is one of those places you just want to come back to. The food is always great, with refined Asian flavors and dishes that are perfectly balanced. Whether you choose sushi, dim sum or one of the specials, you know you're in for a good meal. Everything is fresh, well prepared and served with an eye for detail. In addition, the staff is super friendly and hospitable. The atmosphere is nice and you always feel welcome. The only downside? The time slots. Sometimes you want to dine a little longer, but you have to make room for the next round. That takes away a little bit of the relaxation. But let's be honest: despite that, we still enjoy coming here. Because good food and great service always win.

Beautiful renovation and still very good sushi... but I'm also going to be honest, the old menu was better - where is the Cod curry, dropped noodles, fried rice? No more Sr staff? A DJ playing loud, bad music - has it become a party café? Shame.

We used to go the the original Mr Sam and then followed you across the road to the pop up while you renovated. Last night was my first time back since the renovation but my husband has been a few times. It was just amazing. Special thanks to Bento who looked after us. The food was exceptional (special mention for the Robata yakitori), the decor and furnishings are so cosy and stylish and I love that the tables are bigger than ALL similar restaurants and you are not sitting on top of your neighbour. As always, the staff were incredible. Bravo to everyone involved xxx

Mooi restaurant met heerlijke sushi. Warme gerechten waren ok. Er is een limiet van 2u per tafel, dit is op zich voldoende, maar voelt niet gastvrij. Er ging drie keer iets mis met onze drankjes, geen wauw factor helaas die ik wel verwacht in deze prijscategorie.

Delicious dinner at Mr Sam. Very nice appearance after the renovation. All dishes were very tasty and tasty. The sushi in particular was very popular! The Moscato dessert wine is real 👌🏽 The staff is 10/10. Very friendly and do their utmost to lift the service to a top level. Can't wait to eat here again!

The renovation is a real success. Great ambiance, delicious food and the fantastic staff ( especially Levi and Selina) add that extra to the overall experience. Keep it going and we’ll definitely be back.

Fancy atmosphere, tasty sushi. One bottle of wine and various sushi, chicken and salmon, all of us were full. Worth it. The music is louder after 8 pm and reservations are only for 2 hrs :-)

Went last year, after renovation (beautifully decorated) again! Menu looked good again, very tasty dishes. Service is also very good, fast and friendly. Have a glass of wine and enjoy. ツ Glass of wine was honestly just a bit on the small side.

It doesn't happen often these days, professional service and excellent hospitality in the catering industry. At Mr Sam you experience this experience down to the last detail. Host Niels and his colleagues are exceptional, they know everything about the dishes, they are people who know exactly when they should or should not be there. The request for wine advice resulted in a small tasting of three different wines and although very different from each other, they matched the menu perfectly. The food was fantastic, but the icing on the cake for us was the professionalism of the service, which made everything taste even better.

- Amazing table service (Niels) and the food is absolutely stunning. - Mainly the hot and cold dishes (starters), the main are just OK. - But sushi, oysters, wagyu are great. - Cocktails are delicious and great wine list. - and the amazing desserts.

On Saturday, January 11, I had dinner with my 5 friends at Mr. Sam's, where we also ordered oysters. Unfortunately, the evening ended badly and everyone except 1 friend (who had not eaten an oyster) had gotten food poisoning. For me it was a trip to the emergency room because, in addition to the food poisoning, I also got very severe stomach cramps and it turned out that I had swollen glands in my intestines due to the oysters. My girlfriend contacted the restaurant after the event (because they couldn't have known this either) and told them that everyone got sick from the oysters, after which there was not even an 'apology' and it actually came down to the fact that they would pass on to the kitchen. My girlfriend tried to come up with several solutions since we had spent quite a bit that evening, but unfortunately we are just a number for such a large restaurant. It's a shame that the situation was not looked at in a solution-oriented manner!

Mr. Sam es un sofisticado restaurante de cocina japonesa moderna que va mucho más allá de los típicos locales de sushi que son tan populares en Amsterdam. La comida está en un nivel completamente diferente y cada plato que probamos fue genial (probamos 10 platos diferentes). El servicio fue excelente y la carta de vinos también es bastante buena. El único inconveniente era que era un poco ruidoso... música fuerte y mucha gente gritando por encima de la música solo para poder tener una conversación. Aparte de eso, tuvimos una gran noche y seguramente volveremos.

The food was too salty and had no taste compared to the previous concept of MR Sam before the renovation, tasted much better. I thought the food on Boxing Day was disappointing and in that respect far too expensive.

Had a delicious meal yesterday. The sushi in particular was surprising, tasty and fresh. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Price was not cheap but not very expensive either. Great what you get in return. Definitely recommended!

The food, Atmosphere, and service are all great. We really enjoyed our time here. They have a great menu which a nice range of dishes, my only complaint was on the beef carpaccio they go a little heavy on the sauce it takes away from the flavor of the meat but that wouldn’t stop me from ordering the dish again I recommend the Toro, and my gf loved the dumplings. We will be coming back to try that Wagyu steak! Great cocktail menu as well, the Lychee martini is great

Ate for the first time after the renovation, the restaurant has become very stylish, it also feels bigger compared to what it was before the renovation. Very spacious too, you don't sit too close to other tables. The food has always been good, but this time it was delicious again. Service also top, friendly lady who regularly came to the table. All in all a very nice experience!

The restaurant I am visiting the most in Amsterdam. Lately the prices have gone up a little. But that is the price of the renovation and popularity I guess.
