Very tasty, good service, but a bit pricey. Great for a one-off if you have something to celebrate, for example. You do need to be able to handle quite loud music. There was a DJ playing, which was nice, but it could be a bit quieter.

A friend and I had dinner here tonight. We spent the whole evening there. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were fantastic. All the staff working that evening were very friendly and provided fantastic service. They really made our evening! All in all, highly recommended.🤩🤩

We had a great time and are looking forward to the next time!

Beautiful/tastiest restaurant in Amsterdam!!

Booked here tonight after hearing many good stories. Made a reservation online and paid €60 in advance with AmEx. Always annoying, but ok this time. Reception was fine. Trendy place, beautiful interior and large bar in the middle. Friendly lady and we had a delicious meal. However, I do have a few comments and points for improvement. The price is in no way in proportion to the quality. - When I arrived, I asked if I could charge my bike. At home, the charger had not charged properly, so the battery was empty. The lady behind the reception desk went to ask and would let me know. Unfortunately, I did not see her for the rest of the evening. - When paying, it turned out that we could not pay with an AmEx card. And that while I had paid the deposit with Amex when making the reservation. Very annoying. And that for a restaurant where you pay more than €100 per person, that is really not acceptable. - So I limited the tip to 4% instead of the 15% that I always give as a minimum. - When we left, our waiter reacted very grumpy, but that must have something to do with the previous point. We had a great meal, but I won't be coming back here.

Had a good meal here years ago. Now I made another reservation for which I had to pay 30 euros. The restaurant turned out to be renovated and now looks more like a nightclub. Above each table there is a speaker playing loud lounge music. My friend who I had arranged to meet is hard of hearing and was very bothered by the music. so I asked if they had another table. But the music is equally loud everywhere in the restaurant. When we asked if the music could be turned down, that was not possible and a DJ would come later and then it would be even louder. We explained that it would be impossible for my friend, but there was no understanding for that. Too bad! We were therefore forced to leave. But they really couldn't start reimbursing the 30 euros! What arrogance, what incredibly bad service! We will never come back here!

After the renovation and the introduction of the new menu, we decided to visit again, but unfortunately, the experience was abit underwhelming. Some dishes – such as the sushi, oysters, truffle chicken, sashimi, and spicy edamame – were really good. Others, like the pork belly skewers, tiradito, aubergine, and miso crème brûlée, lacked strong or distinctive flavors. Previously, nearly every dish on the menu stood out, with the short ribs and lemongrass chicken being clear highlights; that level is no longer consistently met. Would go back, but mostly for the sushi. Additionally, the music on Friday night was so loud that it was difficult to have a proper conversation. When we kindly asked if it could be turned down, we were told it wasn’t possible because "it’s Friday night" – a bit disappointing. That said, service from Teun was excellent – very friendly and attentive.

Overall it was a great dinner, food was good as well as the service but nothing special.

Way too expensive and way too small portions. You easily spend 40 euros per person. I am an average eater, but had to go to Febo afterwards for fries because I was hungry. I don't think it's worth the money for what you get.

It was my favourite restaurant in our neighborhood before the new opening. I’m so sad they changed their menu and got rid of all the interesting dishes you couldn’t find somewhere else and were so great, like amazing fish curry and sticky iberico, interesting deserts. Now it’s ‘just’ an elegant sushi place with some extra things to order and mochi as a dessert. Very nice sushi though, don’t get me wrong! But it just seems their uniqueness and boldness went away with the new interior. Looks like any high end sushi place in London - great for pictures but I’m a tad sad about the new menu. Service was and is great. Super professional and friendly.

It was our first day in Amsterdam and we just wanted a quick bite to eat. This restaurant happened to be the nearest well-rated one – and we were pleasantly surprised by how upscale it was when we walked in! We felt slightly underdressed at first, but were warmly welcomed regardless. Even without a reservation, they managed to get us a table, though we were kindly asked to leave after 1.5 hours, which was more than enough time. The concept is similar to tapas – you order 3 to 4 small dishes per person. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the sushi. I’m usually not a fan of sushi, but this one was incredibly fresh and tasty! The service was also lovely and very attentive. The meal was definitely on the pricier side (we paid around €90 for two people), but it was well worth it. A refined experience with amazing food – highly recommended!

Already eaten a few times. Good restaurant but quite pricey and I don't think you are sent away after 2 o'clock, which makes it seem a bit like all you can eat.

Mr. Sam Asian Bistro is one of those places you just want to come back to. The food is always great, with refined Asian flavors and dishes that are perfectly balanced. Whether you choose sushi, dim sum or one of the specials, you know you're in for a good meal. Everything is fresh, well prepared and served with an eye for detail. In addition, the staff is super friendly and hospitable. The atmosphere is nice and you always feel welcome. The only downside? The time slots. Sometimes you want to dine a little longer, but you have to make room for the next round. That takes away a little bit of the relaxation. But let's be honest: despite that, we still enjoy coming here. Because good food and great service always win.

With high expectations for Mr. Sam, given the positive reactions in my environment and on social media. You enter a beautifully decorated restaurant, and the food is beautifully served. Beautiful renovation and still very good sushi... but I'm also going to be honest, the old menu was better - where is the Cod curry, dropped noodles, fried rice? No more Sr staff? A DJ playing loud, bad music - has it become a party café? Shame.

We used to go the the original Mr Sam and then followed you across the road to the pop up while you renovated. Last night was my first time back since the renovation but my husband has been a few times. It was just amazing. Special thanks to Bento who looked after us. The food was exceptional (special mention for the Robata yakitori), the decor and furnishings are so cosy and stylish and I love that the tables are bigger than ALL similar restaurants and you are not sitting on top of your neighbour. As always, the staff were incredible. Bravo to everyone involved xxx

Mooi restaurant met heerlijke sushi. Warme gerechten waren ok. Er is een limiet van 2u per tafel, dit is op zich voldoende, maar voelt niet gastvrij. Er ging drie keer iets mis met onze drankjes, geen wauw factor helaas die ik wel verwacht in deze prijscategorie.

Delicious dinner at Mr Sam. Very nice appearance after the renovation. All dishes were very tasty and tasty. The sushi in particular was very popular! The Moscato dessert wine is real 👌🏽 The staff is 10/10. Very friendly and do their utmost to lift the service to a top level. Can't wait to eat here again!

The renovation is a real success. Great ambiance, delicious food and the fantastic staff ( especially Levi and Selina) add that extra to the overall experience. Keep it going and we’ll definitely be back.

Fancy atmosphere, tasty sushi. One bottle of wine and various sushi, chicken and salmon, all of us were full. Worth it. The music is louder after 8 pm and reservations are only for 2 hrs :-)

Went last year, after renovation (beautifully decorated) again! Menu looked good again, very tasty dishes. Service is also very good, fast and friendly. Have a glass of wine and enjoy. ツ Glass of wine was honestly just a bit on the small side.

It doesn't happen often these days, professional service and excellent hospitality in the catering industry. At Mr Sam you experience this experience down to the last detail. Host Niels and his colleagues are exceptional, they know everything about the dishes, they are people who know exactly when they should or should not be there. The request for wine advice resulted in a small tasting of three different wines and although very different from each other, they matched the menu perfectly. The food was fantastic, but the icing on the cake for us was the professionalism of the service, which made everything taste even better.

On Saturday, January 11, I had dinner with my 5 friends at Mr. Sam's, where we also ordered oysters. Unfortunately, the evening ended badly and everyone except 1 friend (who had not eaten an oyster) had gotten food poisoning. For me it was a trip to the emergency room because, in addition to the food poisoning, I also got very severe stomach cramps and it turned out that I had swollen glands in my intestines due to the oysters. My girlfriend contacted the restaurant after the event (because they couldn't have known this either) and told them that everyone got sick from the oysters, after which there was not even an 'apology' and it actually came down to the fact that they would pass on to the kitchen. My girlfriend tried to come up with several solutions since we had spent quite a bit that evening, but unfortunately we are just a number for such a large restaurant. It's a shame that the situation was not looked at in a solution-oriented manner!

Mr. Sam es un sofisticado restaurante de cocina japonesa moderna que va mucho más allá de los típicos locales de sushi que son tan populares en Amsterdam. La comida está en un nivel completamente diferente y cada plato que probamos fue genial (probamos 10 platos diferentes). El servicio fue excelente y la carta de vinos también es bastante buena. El único inconveniente era que era un poco ruidoso... música fuerte y mucha gente gritando por encima de la música solo para poder tener una conversación. Aparte de eso, tuvimos una gran noche y seguramente volveremos.

The food was too salty and had no taste compared to the previous concept of MR Sam before the renovation, tasted much better. I thought the food on Boxing Day was disappointing and in that respect far too expensive.

Had a delicious meal yesterday. The sushi in particular was surprising, tasty and fresh. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Price was not cheap but not very expensive either. Great what you get in return. Definitely recommended!

The food, Atmosphere, and service are all great. We really enjoyed our time here. They have a great menu which a nice range of dishes, my only complaint was on the beef carpaccio they go a little heavy on the sauce it takes away from the flavor of the meat but that wouldn’t stop me from ordering the dish again I recommend the Toro, and my gf loved the dumplings. We will be coming back to try that Wagyu steak! Great cocktail menu as well, the Lychee martini is great

Ate for the first time after the renovation, the restaurant has become very stylish, it also feels bigger compared to what it was before the renovation. Very spacious too, you don't sit too close to other tables. The food has always been good, but this time it was delicious again. Service also top, friendly lady who regularly came to the table. All in all a very nice experience!

The restaurant I am visiting the most in Amsterdam. Lately the prices have gone up a little. But that is the price of the renovation and popularity I guess.

Aunque nos llevó un tiempo (15 minutos) para obtener nuestros menús, una vez que hicimos nuestros pedidos el servicio fue rápido y atento. La comida era excelente: sirven porciones pequeñas como en un estilo de tapas, y tuvimos seis platos para dos personas, todos ellos excelentes. La carta de vinos es bastante buena también. Tuvimos un gran Sancerre 2023. Estamos seguros de que volveremos con regularidad.

The tastiest sushi ever here (tempura with salmon) and fantastic Tiger Shrimp! Service is friendly, helpful, attentive and competent. Great wine selection that is difficult to choose from (we chose the Pouilly Fumé and the Malbec), but also many fantastic cocktails. Will definitely come back here more often and try everything on the menu!!

Fantastic food, totally worth the price. Very original adaptations of well-known dishes, absolutely not standard Japanese food. Everything is of the best quality (meat and fish) and you can clearly taste that, and yes, it costs a bit more. Very friendly and good staff. The interior looks dark, but once you sit at the table it is no longer noticeable. Clear information about the duration on the website and on site. The only, but for me a major, drawback is the much too loud and club-like music. As a result, I suffered from overstimulation.

Often the same, mainly sweet flavors in the different dishes. The prices are really too high compared to other restaurants, where for the same (high) amount there is more refinement, more subtlety in the flavors and a larger portion. The price/quality is not in proportion. Shame.

Despite the very tasty food, this restaurant misses the mark in terms of hospitality. When you sit down, it is clearly stated until what time you have your table, and when we wanted to order dessert (30 minutes before the end of the reservation), we had to discuss whether this was still possible. After 2 hours the bill is on the table and you can leave. Great for a quick bite, but definitely not recommended if you want a nice bite to eat.

Vibe of the place is super nice and cool. The waiters were very attentive and helpful. The food was very good overall. We ordered sushi, the crispy mushroom salad, tuna tacos and crispy gyozas. In my opinion the sushi was definitely the start of the show. They were made with high quality fish and very tasty. My only suggestion would be to make the rolls smaller - personally I find it easier to eat and taste when they are smaller.

With the new reconstruction the whole personality of this place vanished. I‘m sad, it was my all time fave Place to go.

Went here for dinner with a group of friends while in town. The food was incredible and Lars was an OUTSTANDING server. Definitely recommend stopping by here at least once whenever you are in Amsterdam

Mr Sam’s had already stolen our hearts and tastebuds, now their new interior and menu adaptations were worth the wait! - we did have the pop up option in between to keep us entertained. Thankfully the most favorite dishes remained on the menu. We hope to have many family- and friends’ gatherings here.

Everything what we ordered was outstanding. Cocktails were just perfect, service nice and interior really fancy. Rare combination in NL. Update after renovation: although the bar resembles a New York soho style and the food continues to be great I find the prices absolutely crazy. The vibe of the restaurant shifted from fancy and tasty neighbourhood place to plastic and ’entitled’. The fact that all windows are closed is just ridiculous. Overall we were rather disappointed with the change.

I used to be a huge fan of Sam's Bistro when it first opened. The interior was young, fresh, and stylish, with a unique, recognizable vibe. The fusion menu, blending flavors from across Asia, was bold and exciting. Their sushi, each roll with its distinct flavor, was the perfect start to a fantastic evening. After the extensive renovation, we had high hopes. While we were warmly welcomed by our favorite manager, the rest of the service seemed disorganized. We waited a long time for our order, had multiple servers at our table, and our main dishes were delayed or forgotten. When they finally arrived, there was little effort to make up for the delay. The food has shifted from fusion Asian to mostly Japanese, meaning many of our favorites were gone. While the spicy edamame and tempura beans were excellent, the sushi was disappointing—smaller portions, less distinctive flavors. The aubergine was fantastic, but the salmon teriyaki and lamb chops were underwhelming. As for the new interior, it feels more like an elegant hotel restaurant, losing the hip, fun vibe that made us regulars.

Zeker een aanrader! Beiden lusten we geen alcohol, en dus gingen we voor mocktails. BESTE mocktails die we ooit hebben gehad in Amsterdam/Barcelona en/of London- met veel passie voorbereid en dat proefde je (wat een topper die barman). En dit voor maar 13eu, terwijl je in London soms meer dan 40eu betaalde en het proefde nergens naar. Alles was vers, en van goed kwaliteit. Onze keuze bestond uit: Grilled scallop, Black cod miso, Truffle chicken, Jumbo miso prawn, Black angus steak, nigiri en maki rolls. De toppers van de avond van ons zijn: Grilled scallop en otoro nigiri! Onze avond werd afgesloten met Miso crème brulee en overheerlijk thee van Dammann! Een top avond. En we komen zeker terug voor mocktails en de rest van het menu :)

Coincidentally ended up here again after months of renovation. Wow, delicious small dishes to share that are ordered at once but come to the table in phases. The cuisine is now Japanese and was previously Asian Fusion, I missed the lemon chicken from the previous menu because it was delicious, but to be honest, this menu is also great. Entourage dark, chic and... with Niels at the table you will want for nothing!

We had dinner there yesterday and were curious about what had improved after the renovation. Well, we found it really disappointing. Much too dark, I was even confused for a moment when I entered, not a pleasant entrance. The restaurant is dark, with a large bar in the middle, no connection to the outside, tables very close together. Food was tasty but very expensive for the amount you get. Average age very young. Menu illegible, super small print. You get the feeling more like you are in a nightclub than in a good restaurant. No, it is no longer our special place.

In honor of my wife's birthday, we went to the recently renovated Mr. Sam been. We were warmly welcomed, and once inside we were pleasantly surprised by the atmospheric ambiance. Unfortunately it took a little longer at the table before our aperitif was served, which was understandable given how busy it was. The dishes were undoubtedly delicious, with a strong emphasis on Umami flavors, which we really appreciated. However, I found the price-quality ratio to be slightly less balanced. Although the dishes were delicious, I thought the price was too high. A tip would be to slightly reduce the average price per person, so that a wider audience can enjoy this culinary experience.

Had a lovely evening at Mr. Sam’s. Food, service and ambience were fantastic. Really enjoyed the angus steak, chicken skewers and sushi. I was org drinking Rioja at the bar and then joined my group for dinner so there for 3hrs or so. Would like to apologise for the fuss some members made over the bill (for only €4-5 diff per person). I didn’t agree there should be a revision to the bill and though it may have ended things on a slightly sour note I thought the evening was wonderful and really appreciate the hospitality from the waiters and cooking on display from the chefs.
