Oedipus Brewing in Noordelijke IJ-oevers Oost

Turned up here on the off-chance and there was space. It's a bit of a mish-mash space, some arty and sign writing stuff going on, brewery and bar and a kitchen. We had the special of the day, chicken skewers in a curried sauce, fries and coleslaw. Not bad and very filling. Couple drinks at the bar. Staff were good, very laid back as is the style these days.

Fab beer selection, quality beer food ( burgers, wings , fries ) , quirky/authentic feel ....what's not to like ?

We’d been on a guided tour where it became clear that passion, art and creativity are the driving forces here. It was almost as if they were saying, ‘Oh yes, that beer’s lovely, isn’t it? We sell that too!’ Fantastic. Hopefully that passion will continue to be the driving force, even though it’s now part of a large group… but anyway, that’s certainly still the case at the moment, so I’d highly recommend it!

Beers are a delight, nice food options as well. Staff depends per day, some are supernice, some look at you like you’re interrupting their conversation with a colleague. The ambiance is super relaxed, def. a go to place

The experience was great. I especially liked that manager Tiago came by afterwards to see what we thought of the tour. The tour was a bit disappointing, but Tiago's customer focus genuinely surprised me. 5 stars for this hero!

I loved the hostel-style atmosphere, and the food was excellent. You're definitely paying for the meat; a hamburger alone costs 14 euros, and fries are extra.

The personal was really kind and helpful. The drinks tasted great and the overall vibe of the place was very nice!

An incredibly nice beer experience. A large Amount of their own beers on tap for a reasonable price. An inspiring menu of food to order and incredibly friendly staff. If You are tired of the overexploited pub scene on the other side of the water, immediately take the free ferry from the central station and after a 10 minute walk you have a nice and relaxing time in a real oasis for beer nerds.

Cracking beers, very prompt service. Thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Big seating area outside, didn't spend much time inside (aside from at the bar!) but looked very spacious inside also.

Love Oedipus beers, finally got a chance to visit the brewery/pub! Although it was fairly quiet, probably because of World Pride in the city center, the place has attentive staff and a great vibe. Loved being able to taste a few beers before making a choice. Even got to do some quick store shopping even though that part was officially closed.

Take a step away from the busy city scenter of Amsterdam and go visit this brewpub om the north side of the river. Taket the ferry from the central station and enjoy a twenty minute walk. In the middle of a quiet neigberhood you will fint this gem of a beer pub. They have a large outside area as well on the inside in the colorfull brewery itself. A great selection of beers of all styles, from pale ale, to stout and belgian triple.

This is an Oedipus-owned restaurant. Almost all of their beers are on tap, and they also serve fried chicken, hamburgers, and other dishes. The beer portions are small (around 250ml), but they cost about 5 euros.

Didn't eat any food, but what I saw made me want to try it!

Hidden Gem with lots of space inside and a great inner square. It is great to sit outside on a summer day. The local brews are very interesting and i have yet to find a beer i do not like. The kitchen is fastfood with very limited options for fresh, healthy bites, but overall the food is tasty and was ready surprisingly fast. The service is extremely relaxed, a bit too much perhaps. We sent back heavily overcooked fries that tasted burnt, the new portion came instantly and was perfect.

A real find for us. The atmosphere, the beer, and the food were all fantastic.

We used to love coming here for the burgers, but since the menu change, the quality has unfortunately deteriorated significantly. The chicken burgers were quite bland and the fries far too salty. Poor value for money. A shame, because the location remains great.

This is my first time coming since they changed the restaurant and unfortunately it was so disappointing. Fries were too salty and the tenders were overcooked and had a weird texture, couldn't finish either. I can literally make better tenders at home with my air fryer.

Lovely to sit outside with a beer, plenty of choice. Cozy, relaxed atmosphere and attentive service. Quite a lot of choice for finger food. We were with small children and they were warmly welcomed.

Nice location and great beer. However, since Beef Chief left, the prices are insane. The fried cauliflower (medium size) is just nine pieces for €16, which is insane. Also, the girl behind the counter seemed like she didn’t want to be there, so her attitude doesn’t seem to fit the service industry.

Everyone can find a beer they like here. There's a great selection. The service team provides excellent advice on choosing. The comprehensive tour of the brewery was very interesting. It was very busy early on, and all the seats were quickly taken.

I can add this to the top 10 places in Amsterdam Noord. Very beautiful and cozy. If it's sunny, go to Oedipus Tuin. Oedipus beers, especially the IPA, is really nice.

An excellent craft brewery on the outskirts of Amsterdam. If you like good beer and an authentic brewery experience, this place is definitely worth a visit. It’s about a 40 minute trip from downtown, including the ferry ride. Good selection, average prices, and friendly staff. Great atmosphere, and the whole design and layout are really cool. I liked the place.

If you love industrial and creative, this is the place to be.

Good food and great small bar atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

Went mid week for a quiet drink with friends, a bit of a walk out of town but if the weather it nice it is absolutely worth it

I used to go there mainly for the Beef Chief burgers. But he's gone now, and the new owner only offers chicken in all sorts of variations. I don't like that. Everything's also incredibly expensive and the portions are so small. The beer is great, though. But I'm not going there just for the food anymore. What a shame.

Used to have THE best cauliflower wings, now after a change in menu i paid 16€ for a small portion of very disappointing cauliflowers i could have made at home. The menu has also no idea what the difference is between vegan and vegetarian. Ill come back only for the good but expensive beer

This is honestly the best beer I’ve ever tried in my life every time I come to Amsterdam this is the only place I think of their beer is exceptional the staff is amazing and you have a very nice place that you can sit outside if the weather allows it when I was living in Amsterdam for a year this was my place where I made friends I cried I laughed I made love I made money everything I love this place with the whole of my heart

This place is awesome. Really spacious and super fun artwork all over. The food 10/10 for all of it . The beer was also really nice. Super chilled, lots of families and a wedding going on . I will definitely go back. I recommend the cauliflower 👌🏽

Good burger. Atmosphere was nice, the place was clean with a interesting design. Tipping question is annoying, raise the price, pay better the staff, and don’t ask for tips.

Definitely the best chicken burger I’ve ever had. The kimchi fries are also very tasty.

The place is a bit out of the way and requires a 15-minute walk from the nearest metro station, but it's definitely worth it. Wide selection of beers; we each tried two, and they were truly unique. The burgers were delicious, and the fries were excellent, with generous portions. The atmosphere was very nice, with a colorful, industrial feel. The four of us had three portions of fries, chicken wings, four burgers, and eight beers, spending just under €40 each (including tip!).

Incredibly delicious burgers and loaded fries! We practically inhaled the food 😍 The beer is just as delicious, and we highly recommend everything! Contrary to some of the reviews here, the service is excellent! Bring a little time and a good mood, and you'll be in good hands! The servers are super friendly and cheerful. We even got some beer to try. We'll be back. And maybe we'll just order everything again! 🥰🙋‍♂️

Cool place but sorry- ordered 2 different drinks and they were out of stock. Then asked about vegan food options and zero which is so poor! It's the 21st century guys. We had to leave. So disappointing.

This is a trendy brewery found on the north side of town. The facility is enormous. There are many different rooms and outdoor spaces to enjoy. The beer is quite delicious. I wasn't a big fan of the burger joint for food inside. There should be some additional food items and snacks other than burger plates.

A wonderful place, you should definitely go in the winter too, but I imagine it would be even better in the summer. The staff were very nice! We had a beer at a very reasonable price!

Best burger that I have ever had in my life

The service is dreadful. The cooks are on their phones. The waitresses are on their phones. Imagine giving decent service. At least provide decent service when your place looks like a “bad-guy” vibe New York alleyway. (It looks trash) The pig on the wall is decent. That forces me to give 3 stars.

I really like Oedipus! Lots of beer choices and you can even get a growler of your favorite beer to take home. Lots of space inside and out with really nice staff. Great for groups and they have board games. I didn't get a chance to eat here but they had lots of vegan and vegetarian options for food.

Ouch. Disappointing service that seems a bit unconcerned. It's a real shame because the kitchen does seem to put a lot of effort into the food; the burgers are delicious, and the drink selection is excellent. A quick summary of today's experience: We had to ask for service several times before we could order. Our order for a number of burgers was then delivered incorrectly (which we didn't notice because they didn't tell us which burger was which, but it all seemed correct). After eating for 5 minutes, we were told we'd received the wrong burgers for two people (and a side dish that had been incorrectly ordered, but thankfully, that was corrected fairly quickly). The bar staff then debated for a good 5 minutes, after which they asked if we still wanted the burgers we originally ordered, as they were still there. We said yes, only to have them cold. Not a big deal if you get them for free, but both burgers then ended up on the bill. And the waiter on duty even started arguing with us about it, "because there's an assumption that...", only to end it with a "Yeah, I don't care..." If it hadn't bothered you, you should have mentioned beforehand when the original burgers were delivered that they would appear on the bill, or have the decency not to include them when it was your own fault and we'd already eaten the burgers that were delivered. Let me just ignore the generally poor service that's been mentioned in previous reviews: three people are chatting behind the bar and seemingly doing little, while one person at the reception desk is supposed to take everything and repeatedly forgets, doesn't know which side dish is which, and makes other sloppy mistakes. If it's their first day, I can easily forget about them, but give them some support instead of chatting with people at the bar. Someone else eventually came to take drink orders, which made up for a lot, but not enough to push this above a 2-star rating. It's a real shame, because this has the potential to be such a great place with good food and drinks. Tip: either offer only bar service with a beep system for pickup, or use QR codes for mobile orders if people don't feel like proactively asking for help. I've seen bars and restaurants do better than this with less than half the staff, and that's unfortunately not a high standard.

Visited on 26/10. A quirky, alternative venue with good service. The beer was nice, without being exceptional. On my visit, I didn't try the food: however, from a cursory glance, it looked good quality.

They had a seasonal beer on tap that I hadn't encountered anywhere else. It had a unique flavor, a bit fruity but still strong. It was fun to try something new and truly distinctive. The staff was enthusiastic, and the atmosphere was creative and relaxed.

Great for a day out. The burgers are great. The beer is great IF you love VERY hoppy and citrusy beers. Some beers are so hoppy they taste like a pineapple soft drink! This is a new location since I last visited, with a rather less personal atmosphere. Good staff and friendly locals. DEFINITELY recommend to any visit to Amsterdam.

My favourite brewery in Amsterdam. I've always been a big fan of Oedipus and now I finally got to visit their brewery, it definitely did not dissapoint! They got a huge list of beers on tap, including their classics but also many obscure brews. The prices are very fair for a specialty brewery, although lines at the bar can be long. The place itself is nicely decorated, has great music and is really big & spacious, you never feel crampted. They also got a sjoel table and multiple table football tables (of which 1 is free). They also work in collaboration with a burger joint located on the brewerie's grounds. The burgers are the best I've ever had in the Netherlands, the line for these can also be long though. Overall its a great place to have a night out. Even if you dont life close, the metro line is within a 10 minute walk. It's definitely worth visiting!

I have been going to oedipus since its earliest days and until now I have always been torn between commenting or not commenting with mixed feelings. As of my last visit, I am sure of what I think and I would like to mention some points based on years of experience. First of all, the most negative experience is that a company in the service sector has no idea about service. The kitchen is in constant chaos and most of the time they can't manage it, so they solve this problem by not taking your order for 30-60 minutes. There seems to be only 2 service staff in such a big place. reservation management is very bad. While they don't take reservations on Google, they must be taking reservations from other places because every time you go there are reserved tables. Sometimes there can be a wait of up to 1 hour to order or to be seated. other than that, the beers and food they offer are good, of course if you can order.

We waited more that 30 minutes to order, we had to literally chase the waiter to get the order. We then had to wait another 40 minutes until we got served. Food was ok but the wait is just not worth it. The price in relation with the portions is also pretty unreasonable.

I used to love this bar—it was my go-to place. But recently, their poor organization has been extremely disappointing. They scheduled three weekends of events in a row, clearly planned in advance. Yet they still accepted customer reservations, only to cancel them at the last minute. This shows a serious lack of consideration and reliability. If you’re planning a celebration or special occasion, I would strongly advise against choosing this place. They simply can’t be trusted to honor reservations. It’s a shame to see a favorite spot drop the ball like this.

I’m done with this place We visited once before and enjoyed the atmosphere, beer, and food—so we wanted to give it another try. Unfortunately, the lack of reliable information ruined the experience twice. The available opening hours are on Google Maps, which don’t distinguish between the bar and the kitchen. No details on their website, no clear contact options other than a form. Both times we trusted the listed hours, drove 20 minutes, only to be told the kitchen had already closed—even though the bar remained open for hours. Both times we were told, “Sorry, we’ll do better.” Two wasted trips. Time, money, and patience gone. Never again.

After a lively afternoon at the Sail Festival, we took the ferry F1 and wandered over to this stylish brewery. The beers were refreshingly creative, infused with lemongrass, pepper, and other spices that added a funky twist while staying smooth and elegant. Kimchi fries made the perfect pairing: bold, tangy, and addictive. What sealed the experience was the glassware, we first spotted one of their feather-dotted glasses in a Rotterdam craft shop, which reminded us of our birds back home. That little connection made the visit feel personal and memorable.

Excellent brewery located in an old factory, outside the historic center. Truly beautiful and spacious both inside and out. Wide selection of beers. Contrary to what I feared, the service was fast. The double burgers and the fried chicken are good. Reasonable prices (not at all touristy).

Great food, beer and vibes. The cauliflower was probably my favorite, but good smash burgers as well. Generally quite family friendly (at least earlier in the evening there were lots of kids running around) however parents of young kids should be aware they do not have very many high chairs.

It was a fine place with a bit expensive burgers that at least had a lot of flavor. It was busy so the service was a bit slow and it isn’t personally my vibe. For someone who likes beer and snack food, it’s a great place.

I was there last night with my husband and 2 teenagers. Excellent food and beer. Teens loved the table tennis and Foosball tables!! The staff are so friendly and chatty. Great place to spend our final night in Amsterdam.

Hands down the best smash burger I have ever had. The youthful staff were awesome. Definitely a locals spot but very welcoming of tourists. Don’t miss the opportunity to have a great meal.
