This is my first time visiting the Netherlands after living here for so long! The three of us ordered three dishes, and the lamb chops were especially delicious! If you come at 6:30 pm on a weekday, you won't have to queue.

Authentic Cantonese dim sum in Amsterdam! The staff are super kind and funny as well. You order by filling in the paper with the quantity you want. Highly recommend their lava custard bun, it is out of this world. As a vegetarian, there are plenty of options here too. Truly a great experience and I will be back!

If you are looking for good dim sum, you really have to go here. We had a shared dim sum plate with all kinds of different dim sum. I would definitely recommend it. We had a delicious meal!

The food tasted very traditional, very nice, definitely coming back

It is a cool traditional dimsum place; the food is nice and the waiters smart enough to comment on the choices you make, if for instance they suspect you will not like it or not know what you ordered. It is child friendly (except for the entrance stairs), and they accommodate guests with kids pretty well. The service is good and the vibe is totally Asian; you feel like you are in China. Food quality is alright, not impressive. We liked the desserts very much.

My friend and I absolutely enjoyed the food here. The staff was very friendly and fast. The wonton soup and mihoen singapore were amazing. Highly recommended in Amsterdam city center!

The dish portion are big, staff are nice, and it’s a busy restaurant, reservation is recommended. We ordered beef brisket but it’s too lean, I had two pieces and not interested to eat again. The siu mai is huge and nice. We also ordered Braised pork belly, not bad. Overall I think it’s not bad but it’s too pricey.

Delicious dumplings & dim sum! And such sweet service!

Table next to us got asked if they can put reviews in exchange for free drinks. I think it reflects bad and do not take the good reviews serious. Also wonder what makes them choose which table can write reviews?

Had lunch here with friends and really enjoyed it. We ordered some dim sum, including the Black Gold Custard Buns and water chestnut cake, plus a few dishes to share. The custard buns were definitely my favourite — warm and delicious with a nice salted egg yolk filling. Everything else we ordered was good too. A nice place in central Amsterdam for a relaxed Chinese lunch. You can just order a few dim sum dishes or have a proper meal with a group. Would come back!

Had lunch here and really enjoyed it. The shrimp rice rolls were fresh and delicious, and the other dishes we ordered were great too. I especially liked that the stir-fried dishes had a nice wok hei (wok flavour). The dim sum is definitely worth trying, but the main dishes are just as good. Would come back again!

Authentic Chinese food makes me feel at home

The food was delicious! I highly recommend the three-course meal and the rice noodle rolls. The restaurant had a great atmosphere too. I'll definitely come back to this restaurant next time I'm in Amsterdam!

While traveling in Amsterdam, near Chinatown, I ordered shrimp dumplings (thick skin), shumai (large, but the meat tasted a bit strange) which were unpalatable, vegetarian tofu skin rolls (oily and not crispy), taro dumplings (the filling was sticky and clumpy), and glutinous rice chicken (the filling was roasted meat and tasted okay). The prices were a bit high, the dim sum was bad, chili sauce cost an extra 2 euros, and tea was 4 euros per person – not worth it.

Went here on a whim and uh was alright? Long wait at rush hour, but no one’s fault. Service was nice and attentive but food was lackluster for the price.

A lot of noise and staff who walk past very hastily and are not paying attention to you. Part of the order not received.

Yesterday, I ordered sizzling chicken with my son at this restaurant where I used to eat weekly 23 years ago, but instead of the typical sizzling cast-iron plate, we received a plate on a large soup bowl with a tea light in between. We also ordered tjauwmin prawns. When we wanted to take the barely touched tjauwmin prawns home, our plate was taken to the kitchen to be packed up for us (while others at other tables were given containers to pack themselves). Today, when reheating, it became clear why: in the kitchen, almost all the prawns had been removed, leaving us with exactly one prawn—scandalous, never again for us!

Over 90 minutes of waiting for the main dish. The rest of the food came 20 min after the main dish. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday and I had that written down in the reservation and also mentioned it when I came to the restaurant. At the end, when asked to pack away the food, the waitress brought empty boxes and asked us to do it ourselves. We were charged for those boxes, on top of exaggerating prices for the quality of food received. The cherry on the cake, the same waitress asked for tips when we were paying, which we had to do. Very unpleasant place and rather expensive.

I never expected to find such authentic and familiar Chinese flavors in the Netherlands. The view from the window overlooking the canal was also very appetizing. Remember to make a reservation!

I have been to Oriental City twice in 2 months now, and have had a great experience each time! I would recommend it to anyone ☺️! My favourite is the seafood black rice !

We were skeptical about the noodles we had ordered. When my boyfriend saw that another table had ordered the same ones but received fresh ones, I thought that was unacceptable. It's a shame we didn't get a fresh portion, and it was lukewarm too. If you come for dim sum, it's still acceptable. It is on the pricey side, though. We paid €19.90 for the lukewarm noodles from yesterday. They are supposed to be piping hot and more brownish in color.

The best duck we've had in a very long time

the food was disapointing. the roast duck was from a factory, i could tell, as i sometime buy it myself. the roasted pork belly was even worse. it was fried and not roasted. even i can make better roasted pork belly. the cheung fun was ok, it's hard to mess that up. the beef offals also was not good, not like it was before. all in all, probably my last time here. if someone invited me, i'd suggest another place the staff was nice though.

Love the dining experience. Big round tables available for big group settings. Approx 10 people per table. Quick service at entry. There is a variety in the menu with friendly personel. Dishes are okay, dim sum on the expensive side, but youll get big ones. Has everything expected of a chinese dining experience. The fish is one of my favorites

They pack you in like sardines. We were given a table right at a doorway that obstructed an entry into another room, causing the servers and customers to bump into our table regularly. The food was okay; nothing memorable. Please do not get the Iberica pork dish, as it is overly priced for its quality and is over hyped. This place was way above price for what you get. Many of their dim sum plates would run you 6-8 usd in California. However the worst part about this was its service. Before we were done eating, they began to take our dishes away and oil fell onto my dress. This dress is dry clean only, and they told me a wet nap or hot rag would get the oil out, which is NOT true. I was really disappointed, as I have heard great things about this restaurant. The entire time I was there, I stared out the window wishing I was across the way at The Wok. Please, please, please pass this place up. You will be disappointed.

We paid 8.50€ for 0.75l of water !!! They told us their is no tap water and give this to us without warning it was this expensive. I don't recommend this restaurant. The menu outside is also different than inside, it is more expensive inside.

Oriental City remains one of the most famous spots for dim sum in Amsterdam, and this time it did not disappoint either. We ordered various types of dim sum. Everything was flavorful and ideal for sampling multiple dishes.

The staff were very friendly, but the problem was the smell of cat urine, the disgusting carpet, and an incomprehensible menu. We only ordered one starter, which wasn't bad; it was the price that was bad.

Every time we visit Amsterdam, our favorite restaurant is Oriental City. The Chicken Lo Mein with fried noodles is spectacular!

Opening their menu: shocked. Prices super expensive, but I thought it was worth the hype due to their history and food. Ordered a lot and half were good and half were mid. However, they were no near the price that were worth. The vegetables especially were extremely oily for some reason. The cups were also not very clean, while drinking water, I saw some residues, which were probably dust. The only thing I liked were some staffs. The ear-short black haired woman was extremely helpful and thoughtful. Also had some interactions with old-white haired lady, she was also very kind.

After living in Europe for 7 years, first time i had the best momos experience outside Delhi.

Just just left Oriental city…two of us ordered a meal, sent the entrée back and ate only part of our appetizer; got our check and departed. I have no idea how this is a 4.2 rating. First, let me say the carpets are filthy dirty, and we didn’t realize this until we were seated. There are small flies, flying around on the second level where we were seated. While we waited for our food they were everywhere. We both swatted flies on our legs and arms. We ordered the ribs with bone in black bean sauce to share, and when it arrived, it was tasty but there were small chips of bones in the sauce that made it very unpleasant to eat. We sent that entrée back. We had the shrimp and chicken satay which we only ate half because the satay pieces on the bottom of the plate were just sitting in grease. So we paid for our soda and beer and the satay and departed. This is the definition of a tourist trap restaurant. I find it hard to believe any self-respecting Amsterdam person couldn’t find a better Chinese restaurant to eat in.

Excellent food and genuinely lovely service. Exactly what you hope for when you go looking for proper Cantonese in a city you don't know. The dim sum is the standout. Everything came out fresh, hot and quickly, and the kitchen clearly knows what it is doing rather than playing it safe for tourists. Generous portions too, which made it easy to order a spread and share across the table. The staff made the meal. Warm, attentive without hovering, and happy to steer us towards the right dishes when we asked. Big round tables and a busy, cheerful room, right in the heart of the city just off Dam Square. Well worth booking ahead, because it fills up. Five stars from us and we would go back without hesitation.

I always used to come all the way from Hengelo for the best sui kau soup. Today it tasted completely different. It costs an arm and a leg! When I mentioned it to the waitress, she gave me a strange look. (I am still giving 4 stars for all those years I’ve enjoyed delicious meals here.)

I visited Original City Amsterdam this evening, 6 August 2026, at around 10:00 PM. I would like to share my experience because I was very disappointed with the service I received. First of all, the food was good, and I have no complaints about the quality of the meal. However, the service I received at the end of my visit completely ruined my experience. When I politely asked for the bill, the older, slim female staff member who served me looked visibly annoyed. She had an unfriendly facial expression, did not greet me, did not say a single word, and acted as if my request was an inconvenience. Her attitude made me feel extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed, as though I had done something wrong simply by asking to pay for my meal. As a paying customer, I expect to be treated with basic courtesy and respect. I understand that everyone can have a difficult day, but customers should not be made to feel unwelcome or uncomfortable because of a staff member’s attitude. I hope the management will investigate this incident and remind their staff of the importance of professional and respectful customer service. Good food alone is not enough if customers leave feeling upset because of the way they were treated. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I am disappointed and will think twice before returning. I hope you take this feedback seriously so that other customers do not have the same experience.

We came tonight for dinner, a group of 11. They offered us two tables, which we were happy to accept. From then on, it was one disrespectful act after another from the waiter: rushing to take our order, rushing to clear the table, rushing to get us to pay… They kicked us out, saying they close at 10:30 pm, even though there were still other tables enjoying their meal. We weren't rude, we weren't disrespectful… Don't go to this restaurant if you're in a group because they are very unfriendly to groups.

I learned about the restaurant from Chinese friends. I have been a regular customer for years, and the quality always remains high. Authentic Chinese dishes in a large and atmospheric space with a beautiful view if you sit by the windows. Try the dim sum (open from 11:30). Make a reservation first!

I have been to this restaurant six or seven times, and the service has consistently been disappointing. I kept coming back because, despite the poor service, the food used to be acceptable. This time, however, the experience genuinely made me angry. This restaurant has long had a bad reputation among local Chinese diners for its service, and unfortunately that reputation is well deserved. The staff used misleading wording to add an extra dish to our order, initially refused to remove it, and also made us feel pressured to leave a tip despite the poor service. I am from Guangdong and am very familiar with Cantonese dim sum and traditional Cantonese cuisine. The food this time was excessively salty, poorly prepared, and far from authentic. Considering the high prices, the value for money is extremely poor. I would not recommend this place.

Picked this place out based on reviews. For 2 people it was very expensive and servings were very small. Waited forever for anyone to wait on us and also to bring the bill. Chicken skewers were OK. Shrimp dumpling soup rather tasteless, good peanut sauce. Jasmine tea didn't have that wonderful floral aroma or taste we expect. I'd go for a different restaurant option next time.

Food really tasted bad. None of the 5 dishes we ordered was considered OK. On top of that the dishes were not served together, a few of us needed to wait at least 10 min before we all received our dish. Paid appropriately 300 Euros for the food and 4 Cola’s and one beer. One of the worst restaurants I have ever visited in Amsterdam.

Food is decent , big portions , for this a separate star even:) I’ve loved their beef with noodles! Didn’t like duck, it was too dry and hard to chew. This big plate with different entrants was good choice for a big company, so everyone had a chance to try different positions from menu. While in Amsterdam I can recommend this place to have dinner, will come back for sure.
