Absolutely unforgettable speakeasy experience in Amsterdam! 🥂✨ Moyō upstairs at Paindemie is pure magic — the vibe is intimate and stylish, the cocktails and sake are superb, and the food is next-level. The unreal Wagyu melts in your mouth and the tuna dishes are insanely fresh and perfectly seasoned — true highlights of the menu. Chef Gui works real alchemy with flavors and presentation, making every bite feel special. Friendly service, great energy, and genuinely one of the best hidden gems in the city. Highly recommend!

We had a lovely night at this restaurant! The vibes are immaculate and the food was tasty. I really enjoyed their toast, the bread itself is delicious. The PFC was great and I really enjoyed their eel on toast, even though the price was a bit more on the expensive side.

The cocktails were absolutely delicious, and I really appreciated the friendly service from the staff. It's a bit of a hidden gem, not so hidden though. The Japanese theme was lovely, and I loved everything about it.

Horrible experience. dont go there! First of all, we reserved a table for two and we even paid for the reservation the deposit of 10 euros. When we arrived at the restaurant our table was taken as the whole restaurant was full. They were not holding our table despite the reservation and the prepayment. They offer us the bar to dine, you told us "sorry, all the tables are busy, the only space for you is at the bar" , they never offered us the bar to wait. It is a pity how badly managed is this restaurant, not keeping the good service of a reservation, and being stubborn on not even given the money back of the reservation when they dont keep up your reservation for us. After many emails back and for, they deny everything and they say that we left, they refuse to pay us back the deposit although they told us so. they should reconsider the service and their accountability for the unfulfilled promises on reserving a table. Please think twice before you go to this restaurant, it is a scam.

Both downstairs and upstairs, you enter other worlds. The underground station downstairs with its restrooms instantly transports you to Berlin. And the slightly vulgar upstairs creates the perfect ambiance. And simply the best burger ever.

Wow this place was incredible. I just happened to walk by and the neon colours caught my eye. Once down in the paindemie burger bit I was amazed by the crazy Tokyo vibes and attention to detail. Then upstairs was The Best and cosiest restaurant I’ve ever eaten. We just sat down and had it coming at us. We had 9 courses - all were pretty amazing. And the vibe upstairs was immaculate, best to describe it is a Yakuza esk boudoir that’s cosy as well, as stylish, with great music - like a speak easy with style. Blown away!

Been there many times and Pandemie never dissapoints. Very cosy bar with tasty coctails, delicios food (great vegetarian options), amazing atmosphere :) The host Līva makes you feel like home, highly recommend :) and cannot wait to go back :)

All in all, a rather disappointing experience. I completely get the underground vibe, which I usually love, but it’s possible to have that atmosphere while keeping things clean. Unfortunately, the toilets were extremely dirty and had an unpleasant smell reminiscent of a club, which was off-putting. The food was very underwhelming, especially compared to the great reviews. I had the cheeseburger and fries, and my boyfriend tried the P.F.C. The cheeseburger looked sad and, unfortunately, tasted even sadder. The fries were not great either. Dry and oily. The chicken (P.F.C.) was decent. It seems like this place works really well as an Instagram spot, and I can see why it’s popular visually. For us, however, the experience didn’t live up to expectations, and we won’t be returning.

The deposit was not refunded, and the restaurant was impossible to reach. We emailed, called, and added a note to our reservation. We finally paid the deposit, but arrived later than the start of the reservation with a group (which we reported through multiple channels), but still within the time slot. The reservation had already been canceled. After consulting with a very friendly staff member, we were finally seated, and I was told to check whether I would get my deposit back. This is not the case. Money gone, and the restaurant is impossible to reach. I would not pay the deposit or go there.

Place is a dump, avoid at all costs. Way overhyped, food quality is atrocious, staff have no clue about cuisine or cocktails. Don’t fall for the hype and waste a meal in this place.

This is not a review of the food, but of the reservation experience. We (2 pax) walked into the restaurant after checking the online reservations for Speakeasy. There was nothing available for 21:30, but I did see a slot open at 22:30, so we decided to go and try my luck in person. When we arrived, the lady at the counter told me there were no reservations available for the night. When I mentioned that the system was still showing a 22:30 slot, she said she didn’t know and insisted that nothing was available. To double-check, I looked again on my phone while standing there, and the 22:30 reservation was still open (screenshot attached). The mismatch between the online system and what the staff communicated was confusing and disappointing. They did offer us a place on the ground floor, which is part of the restaurant but not the speakeasy bar. Unfortunately, it felt quite dull and not the experience we were hoping for.

After seeing some funny TikToks, we decided to go for it. - The bone marrow on toast was €15 for a piece of bone with not even enough marrow to cover one whole piece of toast. This is one of the cheapest cuts available, so I don't understand why you wouldn't get enough. We complained about this and were given a new piece of bone that still had blood on the inside. We didn't eat it again and didn't want to give it another chance. - The cheeseburger was okay, but the texture was a bit off and the patty was way too small for the toast. The chicken burger was well-filled but lacked flavor. The sauce was good, though. - We ordered the viral crème brûlée sando for dessert. And what a disappointment it was. The cream seemed to have vanished because there was barely any of it. It was just a flat, empty toasted sandwich that was crispy with sugar and dripping with butter. That's it. Let's end on a positive note: the drinks were delicious. The bartender/service was super friendly. They saved the evening.

Honestly didn't expect to like this place so much. Went in on a rainy night and there was only one other person waiting to get their food. I like that you can just order at a Kiosk like Mcdonalds and they take their time to make it fresh. The PAINDEFRIKANDEL was really good. Sausages were juicy and i loved the crunchy onion that came with it

Yesterday we visited the restaurant and tried the Full Monty tasting dinner menu. The food and sake were good. However, the service unfortunately impacted our overall experience. To begin with, the menus were dirty and sticky. The space is very small, and throughout the evening we witnessed several situations where guests were asked to move or leave due to reservation mix-ups when people “who actually reserved” arrived. Later, about 5–10 minutes after we finished our desserts, we were also asked to pay and leave because the next reservation for our table had arrived—even though we still had our drinks. We paid 400+ euro bill and the waiter asked us to leave without finishing drinks. Later the other waitress allowed us to stay until we finished the drinks. For the price the places charges, a higher standard of service is expected. I’m quite certain we were “late” only because the dishes were served slowly, which was not an issue for us as such. However, guests should not be held responsible for delays coming from the kitchen.

Emma, Matthieu, and Mila are the most considerate, lovely, and welcoming hosts to our first bar in Amsterdam. They made amazing cocktails that exceeded our expectations, specially for our first day in Amsterdam. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This place was such a nice surprise & delight! The vibes were immaculate & the drinks were amazing. I was a little surprised by how crumbly the bread for the burgers was, made it hard to eat, but no love lost - still delicious & enjoyable.

You have to be crazy to not be obsessed with this place. It delivers EVERYTHING. The best comfort food downstairs and the best speakeasy upstairs with also their brand new wagyu restaurant MOYŌ!!! The cocktails are also amazing. This place is seriously like nothing else. It is a must-visit in Amsterdam.

Service is great, friendly, quick and kind. The burgers are singular, really good. Try the fish options, they are definitely something you haven't tried before. The cocktails are easily some of the best in town.

Fantastic hidden gem in the city. The awesome atmosphere of a tokyo metro at the entrance is just the start. On the upper floor you will discover an amazing speakeasy cocktail bar very intimate. Great food and delicious cocktails!

We went and left absolutely disappointed. We came inside to an empty place and no one bothered to greet us. They're more interested in chatting with eachother while I literally was standing in front of them to ask a question. The waitress looked at us and walked away. That same waitress ended up waiting us when we sat upstairs. She was more interested in her chips than greeting us, just gave us the menu while eating, looking absolutely disinterested in life and left. We wanted to leave, but we were hungry. The sandwich was OK, but definitely overpriced. At least she said goodbye.

The whole menu is gone! 😲I used to go for a quirky luxury bite, but now everything left on the menu are goat and chicken toasties. Gone are the shrimp, eels, caviar, bone marrow.. Very disappointing. This place seems to me like it’s spiraling down.

Ordered online asked specifically for no mustard, and guess what I got… mustard! how easy is that to just not put it in the bread. super sucks for wasting 50 euro. I wouldn’t order again from here

We were wandering around and found this place by chance. Loved the Tokyo metro themed interior. We went upstairs to the speakeasy and were blown away by the service and amazing drinks. The Smoky Tiki Tiki - ahhhhh finally a mezcal cocktail in Amsterdam. Our server was brand new (first hour on the job) and did such a wonderful job. So kind and charming! Thank you for a great surprise experience!

Very tasty burgers, good cocktails and friendly staff! On the down side, the (homemade) ketchup was tasty but too salty, and €5 got me 3 small hash browns, which was disappointing. I'll still come back, but make some different choices

Ambiance very underground Japanese style. They really put a lot of efforts into it and I do appreciate that a lot! Bonus point for those inox dining tables. I ordered a menu with le big mie and hash browns. Unfortunately they didn’t have hash browns anymore so I was really disappointed because not a lot of restaurant propose this amazing item. Instead I got fries. They were slightly too salty for me but it was delicious! The burger was so good. Loved the sesame seeds on the bun. It was seasoned perfectly and the home made mayo was also delicious!! It’s a big meal so come hungry! I think it’s the best kind of hangover food or when you really feel hungry 💗

A few weeks ago I made a reservation at Paindemie for a colleague of mine. Paid a deposit for this, but when my colleague arrived the business was closed. We were not informed of this and cannot get in touch with the business. Emailed and called, but no answer. A few days later the reservation was only cancelled, but the deposit was never returned.

Just placed a bulk order for the office for €100.00+, also the last time. Sandwiches with burnt-smacking chicken in them, BBQ onion veggie very bad with a dominant tomato-like taste and a group of dissatisfied colleagues on a sunny Friday afternoon lunch. Not recommended!

Got a sandwich for colleagues today, including chicken. The chicken is just burnt. Tastes like nothing and you can taste the burnt flavour. Never again!

Food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. Definitely worth a revisit! Also very nicely decorated! Only comment is that the ketchup tasted very much like tomato paste which made it quite sour.

Paindemie has an impressive interior design surprise on the upper level. I have been here multiple times and the service, food and drinks are always exceptionally good! The cheeseburger and the spinach salad were very tender, fresh and full of flavour and the Jasmine martini cocktail was very refreshing. The new twists on the cocktails and sake on the menu makes you curious to come back here and try something new every time. Love this place!

Not the most disgusting burger but far from the best! The prices are unreasonable for what you get and hygiene is not a word that exists in this restaurant. The beer bottles were completely dirty from their greasy fingers which we saw them wipe off once in 35 minutes (which is what it took for a hamburger) on a dirty cloth that was under a bench at the cash register. Recommend McDonalds for a more luxurious experience.

the upstairs speak easy has incredible vibes - order the yuzu sake as a starter, you won’t regret it. the frinkandel and the chicken burger are my go to. a total must if you’re in the area and looking for premium fast food.

So I don't know why this place has several good reviews?!!! For the price and for the horrible scary location like in a hostel horror movie, I would never set foot there again. These were toast burgers that reminded me a lot of a Big Mac and the sauces were absolutely bitter and inedible. The fries were small and rancid cut and were not well salted. But what was worst was the music on the ground floor and the location in general. I still felt uncomfortable because you really had the feeling you were in a horror film setting. Sorry, I would have preferred to go to McDonalds. Oh and I don't even want to talk about the toilets there... everything is fully lubricated and covered with stickers like at a train station.

Ate in the speakeasy upstairs and it was very cute. Small and dark, very intimate and chill. The escargot toastie was so good, we talked about it everyday for the rest of our trip in Amsterdam. The dessert was amazing too! all around 10/10

This was my second time here and somehow it was even better now??? I was already impressed the first time! There was a live DJ, my double goat burger (so tender and delicious!) was on my plate within 10 minutes, I think, and the fries were finger-licking delicious. Paindemie has little choice in terms of normal drinks (without alcohol) and the seating area is absolutely not spacious and tables are really close together, but don't let that stop you. You should definitely eat here once! There are places where the food is so good that you almost forget the rest. So this is one of them.

Tienen una carta de cócteles sólida, con una clara conexión con las influencias japonesas en los ingredientes. Los precios de sus cócteles rondan los 15 € , lo que no es inusual en Amsterdam. Lo que hizo de mi visita una experiencia promedio fue que esperaba más atención a la experiencia general en el bar. El ambiente invita a una experiencia de cóctel exclusiva, pero esto se vio disminuido por un servicio algo sin pulir, música electrónica alta e invitados (internacionales) que muestran un comportamiento altamente antisocial, algo que el personal podría haber manejado más apropiadamente, en mi opinión. Para una noche de cóctel estándar, este es un buen bar. Si buscas un ambiente más íntimo con un servicio fenomenal, sigue buscando.

We went there with high expectations due to the good reviews the restaurant had. I got the vegetarian option (not in a brioche bun as discussed with waitresses). The sandwich was +3 euros because it was a veggie option but there was nothing special about it. Could have gotten a similar one at FEBO… my fries were soaked in oil (probably refried) and ketchup sauce was awful. So disappointed.

Very good burgers, with melting butter. You can feel that the meat is made of goat meat. Really tasty. Unfortunately, the dessert was disappointing. Perhaps a creme brulee version would be better.

Definitely not a place to visit for the food. We tried the vegetarian versions of the Le Big Mie and the Patty Melt, both tasted exactly the same. A few hours later, I find myself wondering… what was the actual flavor? Just grease and fat. No depth, no balance. And if you’re expecting something comparable to Japanese sandos, don’t even bother. That said, the space itself is nice, top music and the staff is friendly. For those reading this, make sure to check out the owner’s response, it seems they have a habit of replying with irony whenever someone dares to call out their terrible food.

The place is nice, so is the decoration. But the service is painfully SLOW like one hour wait for a hamburguer. When it finally arrived, it was really dry, the fries were overcooked, it tasted really bad. Not worth it in my opinion.

This is one of my favorite cocktail bars in Amsterdam. The speakeasy “hidden” gem is right above a Japanese diner and has such a bizarre vibe that it’s just perfect. Went there the other day after seeing a movie at Filmhallen (A real pain - go watch it!!) with my boyfriend. We had the burgers, which are typically Japanese street food with smashed paddies in toast buns. I had the veggie cheeseburger and my boyfriend had the “Le big Mie” without cheese. Tbf they messed up the order and brought it with cheese so we had to send it back. The waitress is super chatty and funny and just fits the whole vibe. She made an amazing Sake recommendation that fit our taste to the T! If you want to do something special with good/ exotic food in a chill vibe and nice cocktails or Sake I can highly recommend this place!!

The girl with pink hair was very rude to us, we ended up leaving. The downstairs is soulless. Everything is overpriced. They even take additional money to make a burger vegetarian, that is bs. No one does that anymore. This place needs improvement.

Absolutely loved this place. Very quirky and the burger was definitely one of the best burgers I've ever had. For our second plate the batter on the chicken was a little too overdone hence the 4 stars. We went quite early in the day and were sat upstairs, the music was great, decor was cool and service was good. I wasn't gone on my cocktail but I can appreciate it would have been nice to someone else just not to my taste.
