A truly unique interior with even more unique food. The Japanese burger, a la Smash, is delicious! A unique take on the popular chain's Big Mac. A big plus! We highly recommend it.

The staff and bartenders are very attentive. They offer excellent advice and a great selection of drinks. They also accommodate special drink requests whenever possible. One of our must-visit spots on every trip to Amsterdam!

The potato is nice and crispy and soft. The Le Big Mie and the BBQ onion patty melt are sensational. A very juicy and flavorful sandwich, I will definitely return.

Food was very yummy but very unhealthy haah. We really enjoyed the burger sando!! The ceaser sando could have more chicken in it. The creme beule i liked but my bf said all he can taste is oil.. We also weren’t too big on the ice cream soda . Salad was nice and needed 😂

Perhaps the best store-bought sandwiches I've ever had; especially the Caesar salad sandwich. You can taste the effort that goes into every single component and that nothing is simply bought in. While the ambiance has the charm of a somewhat untrustworthy backyard garage, the service is incredibly friendly, and you can even watch your food being prepared.

Found this place through a random TikTok and decided to give it a go because the concept seemed so cool. I ended up having one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I’ve had in a very long time! The best part, though, is that they make literally everything from scratch, so every single thing you eat tastes incredibly fresh. What really blew me away was the ketchup. Such an inconspicuous and underrated condiment, but they absolutely knocked it out of the park. It tasted like a bunch of insanely ripe, sun-drenched tomatoes had been crushed and plonked directly into my sauce container. The mayo was incredible too! Would highly recommend checking out Paindemie. The folks working there are also absolutely lovely and very accommodating.

I would actually give three stars for the food, but the desserts made it four. We sat upstairs in the bar: a very nice ambiance, and great service from the girl working there. She was attentive and friendly. Another plus point: free tap water, which isn't common everywhere in Amsterdam. The burger and sando were okay. We actually expected all the sandwiches on the menu to be made with sando / pain de mie bread, but the ‘Le Big Mie’ came on a standard hamburger bun. That was a shame. It was also just a little too salty. The vegetarian Patty Melt cheeseburger did come on the familiar square white bread, which was nicely toasted and buttery. Unfortunately, it was already quite cold when served. Otherwise flavorful, although the patty was very thin (like a smashburger). Then, the stars of the show as far as we are concerned: the desserts. Wow, were they delicious! The French toast has a delicious caramel sauce and the crème brûlée sandwich was divine with thick custard inside and a crispy sugar layer on the outside. I might not be very quick to come back for the regular sandwiches, but definitely for these sweets. Otherwise, everything is a bit pricey for what you get in terms of quantity, but then again, that is a trend almost everywhere in the city. We were here on a Sunday afternoon and it was very quiet; plenty of space.

The atmosphere, service, and snacks were of excellent quality. Everything was wonderful, great value for money. We simply loved it, and Ingrid and Carol were incredible to us! Wonderful ❤️ We will recommend it and will definitely be back!!!

Edit: came back here and tried the -MOJŌ- menu. The most delicious wagyu and tuna I have ever tasted. This place remains the undisputed gem of this district of Amsterdam Most definitely not my last visit, because this food was just amazing. I cannot remember when I had such good sandwiches, ever. Plus the drinks are astonishingly good: super fresh and tasteful And the venue is just as special: the combination of the first and second floor is just something unlike you’ve ever seen before in Amsterdam. Also it was fun to play air hockey again. Brings back memories But Paindemie does not stop in the physical world. Its online presence is just as enjoyable. Highly recommended to follow them on insta. Paindemie is an impulse-factory. Paindemie is an experience. Paindemie is a lifestyle.

UPSTAIRS. Chic restaurant in intimate yet funky setting. Quite small with attentive service. Great cocktails and food is delicious, unique, and unpretentious. DOWSTAIRS. Metro-like fast food. The goat patties and toast bread are amazing.

I had an amazing experience here about two weeks ago. I had really high expectations for their burger that’s similar to a Big Mac, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The burger was incredible, the atmosphere was great, and besides the restaurant downstairs, they also have a bar upstairs. Unfortunately, the bar was extremely crowded on the day I went, so I didn’t get the chance to try the drinks. Still, the food was outstanding, and the service while choosing my order was excellent as well. The girls who helped me were super polite, attentive, and incredibly helpful throughout the whole experience.

Fries and Pain de Mie burgers are super yummy. It’s refined and tasty and different. Fries are crispy delicious and homemade mayo great as well. Had high hopes, but got food poisoning after eating here. Unfortunately, the staff wasn't very nice either… It did look nice though!

I had a burger here and thought it was very good. I was in Amsterdam on business and it went well. I'll be back in the city soon and will eat more burgers there.

I'm obsessed with, and perplexed by your concept. The food is delicious and creative. The fast food angle with tasty ingredients is exciting. The drinks are an inspiration. The setup and attention to detail with the interior on both floors is delightfully immersive. It's all weird in a good way. The lady taking care of us was very nice and fast. Great cocktails and good recommendations. It got too noisy for me to consider it a speakeasy, but only once it got fuller. It won't be my last time.

What a nice surprise, sat upstairs in the speak easy. The food and service were outstanding.

You walk in and think, "Oh, you're being shown to your table..." Up the stairs and think, "Wowww! We didn't expect this!" A real gem! Very nice, super hospitable, a lovely girl who tells and explains everything, very spontaneous! We had a great meal, we will definitely be back! When we came out, it felt a bit like we had been on vacation!

I was not impressed with this place. The food is a fusion between American burgers with a Japanese twist . You can order using the app or at the machines located in the restaurant. We wait 15 minutes for our order. The restaurant, kitchen and bathrooms are located downstairs and upstairs is kind of a Disco or Pub. The sandwich or burgers were Ok , we also had fries and beers. They offer vegetarian options.

Best old fashion I have ever had

Had chicken sando. Absolutely delicious!! Chicken was tender on inside and crunchy on the outside, loved the pickled cucumber and sauce. Upstairs speakeasy is a real gem in the city.

Food is fantastic. Super indulgent. Service is effective and fast (partly automated). Aesthetics are on point, edgy and modern.

If you like overly greasy food this is for you. Chicken wasn’t deep fried, it was fried, then fried, then deep fried and on top it was fried again. On top why do you need to put so much fat on bread too. I couldn’t eat even half of the sandwich.

The experience was okay, but overall a bit disappointing. We made a reservation for 8:00 PM and arrived 10 minutes early, but were asked to sit at the counter. During the booking process there was no clear option to choose between a regular table or counter seating. When we asked the waiter about it, we were told that we should have specifically requested a table. However, this wasn’t clear during the reservation process, and as a restaurant it would be helpful if this was communicated more clearly to guests. Shortly after we sat down, a table became available and guests who arrived after us were allowed to take it when they asked. We mentioned that we would appreciate being informed if a table became free. When the table next to us opened while our food arrived, nobody said anything. About 20 minutes later—after we had already finished eating—the waiter told us we could move, which didn’t really make sense anymore. The food was okay and the cocktail was actually very good, but overall nothing particularly memorable. Because of the experience, I’m not sure if I would go back.

Great place except cocktails were not very strong

Weirdly wonderful place… from the outside all you can see is an industrial hipster looking fast food joint… upstairs is another world… a French speakeasy vibe with Japanese twist. They have an excellent selection of cocktails and Sakes. The food however, I found underwhelming hence my 4stars. I am awake at 4am feeling a nausea in my stomach as I found the Big Mac style goat burger I bought way too fatty and stodgy so even though I ate it yonks ago I feel bad. Updated: I don’t want to put this place down as it’s so nice so now that I don’t feel sick anymore I’m changing my review.

This place is fantastic! The atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly. The food is delicious, especially the BBQ onion patty melt and the Paindemie salad.

Unique location! It feels like walking into a Tokyo establishment. A wide selection of sakes, expertly crafted cocktails, and Japanese beer!

Tasty sandwiches! We sat at the speakeasy upstairs, the area is very pretty but very small (smaller than it looks in pictures) and very loud , it didnt had that typical chill speakeasy vibe because of this. Service was also decent but not very relaxed or “fancy” sort of say. It felt like a stepped up bugerbar pop up. Overall decent experience!

Paid 12,50 for a burger that came with nothing, it was tiny and I left hungry. Odd sterile, hospital atmosphere downstairs, I can see the upstairs was cool but we weren't allowed up. Probably good for a proper evening sit down meal, but for lunch, absolutely not.

Today we visited PAINDEMIE. When we arrived, the place was almost empty yet the staff didn’t acknowledge us when I tried to ask a question. I ordered a cheeseburger and was charged extra for the vegetarian version which was unexpected. When choosing a table, most of them were dirty. The food portions were quite small considering the price - around €14 per dish. As shown in the photo, it’s difficult to see how this price is justified especially given the lack of service. In terms of taste, the sandwich was average and not noticeably better than a burger from McDonald’s. Considering the price and overall experience, McDonald’s would honestly be the better choice.

The waitress serving tonight was really rude. We asked things politely, but she replied with rolling eyes and in a very rude manner. It’s a pity cause the vibe and food is very nice! She even ignored us in the end, I don’t normally leave a review, but she really ruined our mood.

We just had one of the best dining experiences in Amsterdam at MoYo, and honestly… wow. Everything was just on point. The menu felt fresh, creative, and super inspiring, not your usual stuff at all. The vibe was effortlessly cool but still classy, which made the whole night feel easy and enjoyable. The service was excellent, and the staff were so warm and natural, they really made us feel comfortable. Such a great concept overall. If you’re in Amsterdam, you definitely need to check it out…you’ll be missing out if you don’t!

The unreal Wagyu melts in your mouth and the tuna dishes are insanely fresh and perfectly seasoned — true highlights of the menu. Chef Gui works real alchemy with flavors and presentation, making every bite feel special. Friendly service, great energy, and genuinely one of the best hidden gems in the city. Highly recommend!

The cocktails were absolutely delicious, and I really appreciated the friendly service from the staff. It's a bit of a hidden gem, not so hidden though. The Japanese theme was lovely, and I loved everything about it.

We had a lovely night at this restaurant! The vibes are immaculate and the food was tasty. I really enjoyed their toast, the bread itself is delicious. The PFC was great and I really enjoyed their eel on toast, even though the price was a bit more on the expensive side.

Horrible experience. dont go there! First of all, we reserved a table for two and we even paid for the reservation the deposit of 10 euros. When we arrived at the restaurant our table was taken as the whole restaurant was full. They were not holding our table despite the reservation and the prepayment. They offer us the bar to dine, you told us "sorry, all the tables are busy, the only space for you is at the bar" , they never offered us the bar to wait. It is a pity how badly managed is this restaurant, not keeping the good service of a reservation, and being stubborn on not even given the money back of the reservation when they dont keep up your reservation for us. After many emails back and for, they deny everything and they say that we left, they refuse to pay us back the deposit although they told us so. they should reconsider the service and their accountability for the unfulfilled promises on reserving a table. Please think twice before you go to this restaurant, it is a scam.

Wow this place was incredible. I just happened to walk by and the neon colours caught my eye. Once down in the paindemie burger bit I was amazed by the crazy Tokyo vibes and attention to detail. Then upstairs was The Best and cosiest restaurant I’ve ever eaten. We just sat down and had it coming at us. We had 9 courses - all were pretty amazing. And the vibe upstairs was immaculate, best to describe it is a Yakuza esk boudoir that’s cosy as well, as stylish, with great music - like a speak easy with style. Blown away!

It remains a top-notch place. Great staff, delicious burgers, and even better fries. Highly recommended. I'll continue to enjoy coming here. The team also always comes up with fun collaborations and specials. Liva always makes us feel incredibly welcome. Her new colleague, Matteo, is just as pleasant, friendly, and hospitable.

Both downstairs and upstairs, you enter other worlds. The underground station downstairs with its restrooms instantly transports you to Berlin. And the slightly vulgar upstairs creates the perfect ambiance. And simply the best burger ever.

All in all, a rather disappointing experience. I completely get the underground vibe, which I usually love, but it’s possible to have that atmosphere while keeping things clean. Unfortunately, the toilets were extremely dirty and had an unpleasant smell reminiscent of a club, which was off-putting. The food was very underwhelming, especially compared to the great reviews. I had the cheeseburger and fries, and my boyfriend tried the P.F.C. The cheeseburger looked sad and, unfortunately, tasted even sadder. The fries were not great either. Dry and oily. The chicken (P.F.C.) was decent. It seems like this place works really well as an Instagram spot, and I can see why it’s popular visually. For us, however, the experience didn’t live up to expectations, and we won’t be returning.

The deposit was not refunded, and the restaurant was impossible to reach. We emailed, called, and added a note to our reservation. We finally paid the deposit, but arrived later than the start of the reservation with a group (which we reported through multiple channels), but still within the time slot. The reservation had already been canceled. After consulting with a very friendly staff member, we were finally seated, and I was told to check whether I would get my deposit back. This is not the case. Money gone, and the restaurant is impossible to reach. I would not pay the deposit or go there.

Place is a dump, avoid at all costs. Way overhyped, food quality is atrocious, staff have no clue about cuisine or cocktails. Don’t fall for the hype and waste a meal in this place.

This is not a review of the food, but of the reservation experience. We (2 pax) walked into the restaurant after checking the online reservations for Speakeasy. There was nothing available for 21:30, but I did see a slot open at 22:30, so we decided to go and try my luck in person. When we arrived, the lady at the counter told me there were no reservations available for the night. When I mentioned that the system was still showing a 22:30 slot, she said she didn’t know and insisted that nothing was available. To double-check, I looked again on my phone while standing there, and the 22:30 reservation was still open (screenshot attached). The mismatch between the online system and what the staff communicated was confusing and disappointing. They did offer us a place on the ground floor, which is part of the restaurant but not the speakeasy bar. Unfortunately, it felt quite dull and not the experience we were hoping for.

After seeing some funny TikToks, we decided to go for it. - The bone marrow on toast was €15 for a piece of bone with not even enough marrow to cover one whole piece of toast. This is one of the cheapest cuts available, so I don't understand why you wouldn't get enough. We complained about this and were given a new piece of bone that still had blood on the inside. We didn't eat it again and didn't want to give it another chance. - The cheeseburger was okay, but the texture was a bit off and the patty was way too small for the toast. The chicken burger was well-filled but lacked flavor. The sauce was good, though. - We ordered the viral crème brûlée sando for dessert. And what a disappointment it was. The cream seemed to have vanished because there was barely any of it. It was just a flat, empty toasted sandwich that was crispy with sugar and dripping with butter. That's it. Let's end on a positive note: the drinks were delicious. The bartender/service was super friendly. They saved the evening.

Honestly didn't expect to like this place so much. Went in on a rainy night and there was only one other person waiting to get their food. I like that you can just order at a Kiosk like Mcdonalds and they take their time to make it fresh. The PAINDEFRIKANDEL was really good. Sausages were juicy and i loved the crunchy onion that came with it

very unprofessional staff and a really nasty atmosphere

Yesterday we visited the restaurant and tried the Full Monty tasting dinner menu. The food and sake were good. However, the service unfortunately impacted our overall experience. To begin with, the menus were dirty and sticky. The space is very small, and throughout the evening we witnessed several situations where guests were asked to move or leave due to reservation mix-ups when people “who actually reserved” arrived. Later, about 5–10 minutes after we finished our desserts, we were also asked to pay and leave because the next reservation for our table had arrived—even though we still had our drinks. We paid 400+ euro bill and the waiter asked us to leave without finishing drinks. Later the other waitress allowed us to stay until we finished the drinks. For the price the places charges, a higher standard of service is expected. I’m quite certain we were “late” only because the dishes were served slowly, which was not an issue for us as such. However, guests should not be held responsible for delays coming from the kitchen.

Emma, Matthieu, and Mila are the most considerate, lovely, and welcoming hosts to our first bar in Amsterdam. They made amazing cocktails that exceeded our expectations, specially for our first day in Amsterdam. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

You have to be crazy to not be obsessed with this place. It delivers EVERYTHING. The best comfort food downstairs and the best speakeasy upstairs with also their brand new wagyu restaurant MOYŌ!!! The cocktails are also amazing. This place is seriously like nothing else. It is a must-visit in Amsterdam.

Service is great, friendly, quick and kind. The burgers are singular, really good. Try the fish options, they are definitely something you haven't tried before. The cocktails are easily some of the best in town.

Fantastic hidden gem in the city. The awesome atmosphere of a tokyo metro at the entrance is just the start. On the upper floor you will discover an amazing speakeasy cocktail bar very intimate. Great food and delicious cocktails!

We went and left absolutely disappointed. We came inside to an empty place and no one bothered to greet us. They're more interested in chatting with eachother while I literally was standing in front of them to ask a question. The waitress looked at us and walked away. That same waitress ended up waiting us when we sat upstairs. She was more interested in her chips than greeting us, just gave us the menu while eating, looking absolutely disinterested in life and left. We wanted to leave, but we were hungry. The sandwich was OK, but definitely overpriced. At least she said goodbye.

The whole menu is gone! 😲I used to go for a quirky luxury bite, but now everything left on the menu are goat and chicken toasties. Gone are the shrimp, eels, caviar, bone marrow.. Very disappointing. This place seems to me like it’s spiraling down.
