The Butcher in Oude Pijp

The burger meat was delicious, but the bun was terrible. It tasted like stale bread. They could improve that and earn 5 stars, since the place is beautiful and has a wider variety of food, not just burgers. The chocolate soufflé lacked chocolate or sugar flavor, but the ice cream was delicious.

1 star because it cannot be lower. Totally filthy: that Brazilian guy had a pair of gloves on; he came in the table area, picked up garbage from the floor, wiped the tables with a cloth with chemicals, picked up the phone, Shaked hands with a buddy and then he prepared the hamburgers with the same pair of gloves, not washing, not changing gloves. I felt sick, could not eat the burger. It is completely filthy.

My partner and I placed an online order via Thuisbezorgd from The Butcher on Albert Cuyp. I ordered a double burger medium-rare, but it arrived completely overcooked, very dry, and tasting like low-quality, old frozen meat. My partner ordered a double burger with fries and only received a single burger without the fries. Cooking a burger properly is NOT difficult, and reading an order (including the extra comments) shouldn’t be either. Really disappointing experience.

This is the best burger I’ve had in Amsterdam, and honestly the best I’ve had anywhere in Europe.

I've never been there, so my review isn't based on my physical experience with the restaurant, but I have ordered from them several times via Uber Eats. The burgers are often excellent, but unfortunately, thanks in part to Uber Eats, I haven't had a great experience. The last few times I tried to order from them, the status changed from "Reorder" to "View Store." This meant orders were taken, but no delivery drivers showed up. I'm also not going to "just" stop by the restaurant to pick up the food; otherwise, I would have done so beforehand. Please communicate this clearly with Uber Eats, because now I'm out 22 euros!

Unpleasant staff. The burgers are very good, however the frozen fries (extra charge) are not worth it.

I arrived at the place after almost a 40-minute walk, and there were still 30 minutes left before closing time. The Brazilian attendant told me that the place was closed and that they couldn't wait for customers!! But the place was still open, which is regrettable. I've eaten there before, and the burger is very good, which is exactly why I went back. But this time I was mistreated and couldn't eat my burger, even though I arrived during opening hours.

Had to order outside at the kiosk while it was raining heavily... Nothing to say about the burgers, they were good, but the fries were frozen and charged €6 without sauce + €1 for industrial sauce... So only order burgers.

I was disappointed with my order — the burger arrived really cold and tasted almost identical to a McDonald’s cheeseburger, which doesn’t feel worth the higher price. I was expecting something fresher and more unique for what I paid.

Great place. Quite unusual inside, dystopia & minimalist even which won't suit everyone. The burgers were top notch as we're the sides. Menu wasn't massive, which I always think is a good thing. Service is minimal but very good. Certainly a recommendation.

It seems the Butcher's food quality is declining. We ordered hamburgers through Uber Eats. The food arrived cold, and when we called the restaurant, they started blaming Uber and answered rudely. This is not the kind of service you are expecting from place like the Butcher.

Seriously, young man, I ordered food. It never happened, so I picked it up myself, asking what was wrong. Then I took home food that had probably been sitting there for 30 minutes because it was too cold to be honest: rubbery bacon and mozzarella sticks that were hard as if they'd just come out of the fridge. I went back to the location to ask what was going on and was told to complain to Uber. After a long time of nagging, they were willing to prepare the food you paid €40 for (including delivery) with a sour face. If this isn't a review that makes you think, "Let me go look at something else," you're asking to be screwed.

The food is amazing, especially the beef burger, which is very delicious, and the fries and sauces are delicious.

Beautiful burgers and I can strongly recommend adding fried egg to your burger. The sweet potato fries have a bit of a spicey kick to them but they are super tasty.

omg this was the best burger we had in amsterdam so far, it was sooo good! the meat wasn’t too much smashed which is something that i really look for when going to eat smash burgers because they can be really heavy!! we also had sweet potato fries, they were amazing :)))

Hamburger restaurant in Amsterdam near the square. Famous for its hamburgers, but they're average and the sauce is too much. The fries are good, but the size is big enough for two. Unfortunately, the sweet potato fries had a burnt taste, and the chicken strips were average.

I've been to other locations a few times and have always been satisfied. This was my first visit to this one, but unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The oil the fries were fried in seemed old, and that was noticeable in the taste and smell of the fries – they had an unpleasant odor and didn't taste fresh. Unfortunately, this was reason enough for me not to return to this location.

A chain of several locations in Amsterdam offering truly delicious fast food sandwiches at very competitive prices. Reading other reviews convinced us to go here, and it was definitely worth it. It's obviously ideal for a quick meal.

It's just the bomb! My friend and I really liked this burger place! Cheap, but very tasty! It was about 11 pm, the places nearby were no longer selling food, in one of the bars we were recommended Butcher, and we are immensely glad that we went there:))) Amazing combination of sauce, avocado, salad and juicy meat. Shitty customer service. Ordered a 50 euro delivery, waiting for an hour, nothing arrived, not picking up the phone. If it will arrive it will be cold anyway and they ask for 36 euros for cancellation. Never again.

What a disappointment! We had placed an order at The Butcher and were really looking forward to it. After waiting for an hour we were told that our order had been cancelled - without any explanation or apology. The staff acted as if it was completely normal and showed no understanding for our frustration. An hour of our evening wasted and we ended up going home empty handed. For a restaurant that presents itself as premium this is really below par. We will never order from here again and advise everyone to choose another place where they know how to treat customers. What a disaster! We ordered online from The Butcher and had been waiting for an hour when they called us to say they had cancelled our order. No reason given, no compensation offered - just "sorry, it can't go ahead." The customer service was downright bad. They seemed to take it for granted that we had waited so long for nothing. We were hungry, had counted on this food, and now we were left empty-handed after wasting all that time. For a place that prices itself so highly, you would expect a lot better treatment. This kind of incompetence is simply unacceptable. We will never order from here again and will warn our friends about this place. Go to another restaurant where they at least know what they are doing. The Butcher does not deserve your money.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Top notch burger joint. A little on the expensive side and a little smaller than I expected but when it comes to taste and flavor I can honestly say it's probably one of the best burger restaurants in all of Amsterdam.

A cute bar and lovely food! The plant base burger was delicious. The only downside was I expected French Fries instead of thick cut chips. I do think that it’s a bit on the expensive side as I paid €18 for a burger and chips! But the atmosphere is cool and it stays open till 12am so it’s a cool spot to go after a couple drinks.

Very nice place with several locations all over Amsterdam! The meat is very good, the sandwiches are filling and the sweet potato fries are fantastic! The writings inside the place are funny, the price is average with other similar places in Amsterdam!

Delicious burgers! We didn't expect them to be this good. We ordered the Cowboy and Truffle Truffle burgers, and the Truffle was the best! The shop's decoration and the art on the wall are so fun!

An excellent chain burger restaurant with a bar in the back. You won’t be amazed by the burger but you will certainly be satisfied. It is done just right. The meat is excellent and aged, it is grilled on two levels with the patty slowly smoking on the top level as the burger is constructed. The meat is cooked perfect medium rare and is perfectly seasoned, the bread is nicely grilled, the vegetables are fresh and crunchy, the sauce is not invasive and complements the meat perfectly. Lovely, good, reliable. Recommended.

It was very delicious and I will be back later when I am back in Amsterdam again.

We came to eat here. We were the first table to enter, they took a long time to serve, they brought us two hamburgers first and then the rest of the hamburgers and lastly the fries. We ate in parts. First some and then others. Our burgers arrived cold. There is no music in the place and the waiters seem to mind if you ask them or go to order another drink.

Without music, there were four of us and they first served us 2 hamburgers and 10 minutes later the other 2 and then the potatoes, the waiters were too busy talking to each other to serve you, and when paying apparently you have to pay 5% more if it is separately 🤯

La viande cuit devant nous - l’efficacité est de mise et la concentration en cuisine bien réelle ! I might go as far as saying this was one of the best burgers I've ever had. I ordered the truffle burger (has truffle mayo) and blue cheese with sweet potato fries. Usually I find those fries in other places to be dry and tasteless but these were an amazing combo with the burger! Some really cool and entertaining art all over the walls too (though maybe not for parents who don't like swearwords).

The burger was nice, it's nice to have an open kitchen, but the service was very slow, we waited 35 minutes for it to arrive.

I was a loyal customer for over a year, but my last visit was a huge disappointment. After waiting an hour, my order still wasn’t ready, and the staff showed no concern whatsoever. I’ve never been treated so disrespectfully. In the end, I didn’t even get my order—I walked out angry and frustrated. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

Ordered online via Ubereats. Order was supposed to arrive in half an hour. After 1.5 hours the time was still delayed. The restaurant indicated that Ubereats had canceled (both Ubereats and Butcher did not let us know) and that I could contact UE. UE could not be reached and Butcher did not want to do anything. Phone contact was very unfriendly and not helpful. Finally picked up the food myself, it was cold (2 hours later). Very customer unfriendly, not helpful or cooperative.

Good ingredients and consistently great burgers.

Very tasty burgers and excellent quality meat. The internal room is worth seeing for the lights and graffiti on the walls which make the atmosphere unique. There are also vegan options, although I wouldn't recommend it due to the clearly opposite concept.

Delivery time of one hour, not acceptable within Amsterdam

Avoid. Honestly it kind of upsets me to write this as we were so excited for our first evening in Amsterdam to visit somewhere quite renowned… We walked in through the kitchen (I will say the chefs were LOVELY!) - place had one other table in, so we could sit wherever. The table was set for three but five lots of napkins - the two other napkins were dirty with sauce over them. No menus - only on QR code (fine no problem) but no explanation - do we order on an app? At the bar? Will someone come over? Eventually a lady did. We ordered (although she tried to walk away when we were only half ordered?). After around ten minutes she came over to tell me that they ‘couldn’t make it’ so I ordered a different one. It was then a LONG wait for the new one. This drink was honestly disgusting. It tasted like playdoh mixed with the most minuscule amount of tequila. I tried twice to flag her down to mention this but it was suddenly as if I were invisible. In this time the food came - she didn’t seem to know the names of the burgers, just ‘the one with bacon?’ ???? And we had to ask twice for more salt. The woman tried to take my friends food away whilst she was mid-chew. The burgers were okay however both my friend and I are now back at our apartment not feeling great. Nothing to write home about, they were just burgers. Standard - everywhere does burgers. Toilets were disgusting, there was no toilet roll, and vomit in the one ladies cubicle. Very tongue in cheek gimmicky where “style” seems to matter more than the finer details. We asked for the bill, I wanted to check it (personally I always do from previous hospo experiences) - my friend had asked for two glasses of wine (it’s our holiday!) and they only brought one over, but charged for two? Fine. Lady took it off the bill. She walked away to take this off before I could say about the cocktail - so when she came back I did (and said I was happy to pay for it as maybe not to my taste). She huffed and walked away again - saying something over the bar to the bartender. Came back after a while suddenly all cheery. She took that cocktail off the bill, and offered a 20% discount (which whilst I do appreciate because it was not up to expectations, it didn’t resolve the lack of service and rudeness). We paid and left. Again walking out - chefs were super polite, thanked us, but the front of house staff really need some training here.

We are in house on the 3.rd of January. After we got home me and my boyfriend felt so sick. We had burgers and fries. I don’t know what was bad but something made us feel very sick. I throwed up and both of our stomach hurt bad. In the end we went to a doctor and had food poisoning. We would never eat here again. Now after 3 days we still haven’t recovered. Worst place Ever.

awful place. we arrived at 23.10, but basically staff doesn’t want to work and made us leave with words we are actually closing in 30 minutes, we already closed everything. if you close at 23.10 you should change your work hors from 00.00 to 23.10

They get confused about giving the burger because they don't look at the receipt, you ask the waitress and she lies about what they are preparing it for. If you ask her again she gets angry. Sad, not recommended and hostile place.
