Pannenkoekenhuis De Schaapsbel in Binnenstad-Noord

I recently visited this pancake restaurant and my experience wasn't great. The gas smell hits you the moment you walk in, the pancakes are way too thick and therefore raw, and the restrooms are absolutely disgusting!

Excellent service, and impressive value. I got about 3/4 through the absolutely delicious plate before I had to recognize defeat.

Very friendly staff. We arrived an hour earlier than our original reservation. It wasn't a problem. The pancakes were delicious and filling! The selection of premium sodas was also very good 😊

We were there on October 3rd – a major holiday in Leiden (which we didn't know). The restaurant was accordingly very busy, and even though we arrived with eight people without a reservation, we were shown a table after a short wait. The service was very friendly, and the poffertjes and pancakes we ordered arrived quickly and hot. The prices aren't exactly cheap, but they were absolutely reasonable for our taste. Everything was delicious, and the portions were more than sufficient. We will be back. Thank you very much 💖

Good hotel within walking distance of the train station. Delicious food.

Very tasty and friendly service. As a customer, you don't even have to pay €1 for the toilet. I had the special Schaapsbel (ham, onion, bacon mushrooms). 👍🏼

Went there with a group, drank a variety of things, didn't eat anything, except for apple pie with whipped cream. The staff were very friendly, the food looked good, but that will be for next time...

We had delicious pancakes today, and we both had the sheep's bell. What was surprising was €15 for one Kriek beer and one Rivella??? There was no drinks menu on the table, and the beer menu didn't even show prices. Felt ripped off!

The food is delicious. There's a large selection. It's nice to sit outside.

Beautiful location, but the pancakes are inedible; they taste more like a bland Turkish pizza. The salmon pancakes are served on a plate and are ridiculously overpriced. The bottled beer isn't cold. Too few staff, and the wait for your food is too long. In short, not recommended.

Takes a long time before you can order and portion is very small

It tastes good. But you'd expect that you wouldn't have to spread the Nutella on your own pancakes. The cutlery and plates were still dirty. I think the picture says it all. You can at least keep it a little clean and serve it nicely.

Overall, we were very disappointed. Some of the pancakes were burnt, the staff was very unfriendly, and the bitterballen only arrived after we were ready to pay. There are certainly better places for lunch.

Truly delicious pancakes. We walked in spontaneously and were served quickly. I could even peek into the kitchen and see how beautifully the pancakes were flipped.

A classic pancake house in Leiden! I’ve been visiting here since I was a child and it’s always good, the ham and cheese pancake is my favourite!

There were some ladies walking back and forth on the fairly quiet terrace, but we were not noticed at all. After 10 minutes of being ignored, we left. A few doors down we were immediately helped.

We were aiming for a nearby pancake house from a guidebook but came across this one first. There was just room for the two of us but it was very popular and lots of families were eating there. One of us had the Hongaar, a pancake with goulash , and the other had mushroom and paprika with extra cheese. For dessert one of us had apple pie and the other an apple pancake . It was a cold day so we had hot chocolate, and also cider. The service was friendly and the food very good

We waited 1 hour for a pancake. The people on the terrace were helped first! When the terrace was empty we were helped. What bad service! And we still received an apology!

Left after waiting for almost 1 hour for 2 pancakes and seeing that others order later but recieved them first.

Incredible restaurant, the savory crepes are exceptional. The restaurant is warm. We see the pancakes being fried. If you go to Leiden you have to go there directly.

The dubai pancakes pistachio was so bad

Quiet on Saturday afternoon. There is a lot of gas smell inside from baking the pancakes, so your clothes smell like it when you get home. Sometimes it was even a bit breathtaking that we wondered whether the extraction was turned on. Service friendly but not very knowledgeable. A latte and a French coffee took a long time... walking with a tray was awkward. It's a shame because it doesn't require some training. Drinks tasted great and very tasty with lots of Grand Marnier in them. 😉 Toilets unfortunately filthy, floor a wet mess. We also found it a bit dingy in the restaurant, a lot of rubbish/busyness behind the bar, and at the front of the bar about 12 empty bottles full in plain sight. And due to baking, there is a lot of dust and grease on the shelves and glass plates. But yes, that is not necessary if you clean consistently. When the door to the kitchen opens, we almost spontaneously felt like cleaning. So we see hardworking people, family business?, but with a little more guidance we can certainly make more of it.

The pancakes were very tasty and the service was great by the friendly staff. One point of attention: perhaps install a door closer in the toilets (doors were wide open), because the back of the room smelled quite like a pungent toilet odor. Not very pleasant - especially not in a restaurant.

Gluten/lactose-free pancakes are baked with soy milk. The waiter 'forgot' to mention the allergens. It was also not on the menu. The cheese and apple in the pancake was unrecognizable in terms of taste. Not recommended.

We arrived 50 Minutes before closing but we couldn’t order food. The staff just wanted to go home early I guess. Why even say you are open till 9pm when you close at 8pm… Never again!

Nicely located restaurant with typical dutch pannenkoeken. They were SO good!!! I almost cried after the first bite lol. Also, our waitress was so nice! Can definitely recommend!!

Delicious and good quality pannenkoeken with many options and varieties. Service was initially a little slow and not very friendly, but this didn't apply to all waiting staff, thankfully. I would return here just to try their other options.

Ate delicious pancakes 😋. A tip is to soak the raisins in water beforehand. This improves the taste and also makes the raisins softer. Fast service by friendly staff. Relax outside on the terrace. Top! We would love to come back😉

The tastiest poffertjes in my entire life. And I already had a lot 😁. The pancakes are huge and absolutely great. A fair price for the Netherlands. However, the service could be a little more attentive and clear the tables more quickly. Because there are a lot of seagulls and crows here. But still really recommended!

Ate here once when visiting the Leiden University. First time we had to leave before our food arrived, because they forgot it. Then after visiting the university we went again and then got our food pretty fast. Despite the service malfunction, the inside is very old Dutch like which is cool to see and the pancake was delicious

I came here a while ago with my friend who is in a wheelchair. The place was pretty accessible for him so that was lovely! The pancake I had was very delicious and enjoyable. The staff was really nice and helpful. Quality/price wise it was delicious for a restaurant placed in the middle of the centrum of Leiden. If you like pancake it’s a recommendation to eat here!

It was pouring rain when we found this place and it was well patronized. We came for pannenkoeken and we made a great choice. They had a large selection of sweet and savoury ones. We each had savoury and the were huge, filling the plate and more, hanging off the side. We had great service and the food was fantastic, everything nicely done and tasty. It has a great location with an outdoor patio along a canal. On a sunny day, would be great to sit outside. The resto is located off the main street along with others and maybe 10-minute walk from the train station. The service was great, the food was tasty and it was reasonable price. We enjoyed our first visit and went back the next day. We shared a pannenkoeken (pesto with mozzarella, our server’s favourite) and poffertjes with smoked salmon and crème fraiche (smaller dish). Again, both were tasty and had great service. In over two weeks in Netherlands and having pannenkoeken at 3 other places, these were the best we had, we want to go back again some day!

Very good Dutch pancakes. We ordered two pancakes - plain sugar Dutch pancake and a pancake with bacon and apple. The plain was delicious, soft and cooked perfectly. The bacon/apple pancake was very good.
