Delicious food and really nice staff. I had a delicious chicken satay and the steak was also incredibly delicious! Definitely recommended.

We recently dined at Papa’s Loft on Gelderlandplein. We consider it a true hidden gem amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. Besides the café on the ground floor, there's a lovely restaurant on the first floor with a warm, homey atmosphere. They also have a rooftop terrace. We were there in winter, but we're definitely planning to visit again when it's warmer. Not only was the atmosphere cozy, but the food was also delicious and beautifully presented. We chose the chicken satay, the steak, and the vegan burger. As a side, we ordered truffle fries, which were also excellent.

The food was fantastic! The stewed pears and venison stew were absolute favorites, but the asparagus, carrots, gyozas, and crab were also delicious! The service was also great, and the restaurant's atmosphere was completely cozy for winter. Highly recommended!

A really nice, cozy place, I'll definitely go again. I would adjust the food a bit. For example, I would serve the bread platter in pieces instead of whole, and so on. A few more minor adjustments. Otherwise, highly recommended!

Had a great experience at Papa’s Loft House. The food was really enjoyable — we tried the burger, salmon, and pasta, and everything was well prepared and full of flavor. I made a reservation for a 50th birthday lunch. When we got there the upstairs stylist restaurant was closed and we were seated at the coffee shop downstairs. Completelt different vibe and experience and very disappointing. Do not advertise with a stylist lunch restaurant when it is closed for lunch. We did not have time to find a different place so we had no choice but to stay. Food was decent but overall experience disappointing on a special day for us.

The food and drinks were very nice and the place is very cozy. Unfortunately, during our visit we saw a mouse walking under our table. I understand that Amsterdam has many mice and this can happen anywhere, but in a restaurant, especially when inside and not on a terrace, it feels very unhygienic so I would recommend some pest control measures

Cool spot for food with a Latin twice. In the two days most of our group sampled most items. All were great, but the Hemmingway burger has the wow factor when it arrives.

The food was really good—freshly prepared and delicious. The prices are a bit higher, but the restaurant makes up for it with its great location and pleasant atmosphere. Perfect for a special evening or simply to enjoy the view.

There were five of us. We made reservations in advance. We sat on the upstairs terrace. There are umbrellas. Lounge vibe. Wonderful summer music; we felt like we were on vacation. The service was cheerful and friendly. We spent about €30/€35 per person. But we all had drinks: lunch with a drink, a baguette with dips, dessert with coffee, and another drink. So, in my opinion, very reasonable in price. 👍 I also saw a huge BBQ, so you can probably enjoy delicious dinners here as well. Oh, and they have a hotel section, so you can sleep there too. 😉

It's always nice to sit on the rooftop terrace. Great music. This time we were there, it was just a shame we had to wait a long time for our drinks and got the cheese sticks first. Better to order them differently next time.

Staying at Element for 2nd time and didn’t have chance to visit Papa’s last time but given it was a Sunday evening this time and I couldn’t be bothered venturing too far, I thought I would give Papa’s a chance as really just felt like a burger & beer anyway. Too windy to sit outside this evening (but perhaps nice on another night) so took a table near a window with lots of natural light. I noticed a couple of solo guests also sitting up at the longish bar which I particularly like from the US. Google reviews of the food were low so I had limited expectations coming in. Plus they are openly advertising for a new head chef! I also lived in NL for a few years so I know you don’t go there for the food (or the weather). BUT I was pleasantly surprised. Decent burger that was cooked just right, good fries, and a selection of local draft beers. The two waitresses were also switched on and friendly, paying attention to all guests, plus cleaning the bar in quieter times. Thank you for great sevice!

I stayed at the Element Marriott Hotel again for a business trip. Papa's Loft House (previously known as Hemmingways) restaurant is a part of the hotel. It offers great service and a relaxed, stylish vibe. The huge Bison head and cozy fireplace add a nice touch to the atmosphere. Breakfast is served from 6.30 am until 10.30am. It offers continental breakfast with a great variety of food. I loved it. While the space still feels inviting, the fusion menu is hit or miss. I tried the Salmon Papadum, which sounded interesting but fell flat—felt like it was generated by ChatGPT. The papadum was wet and floppy, and the salmon lacked flavor. That said, everything else about the experience was solid. Would still recommend the place overall.

The atmosphere was nice, staff friendly but my food not good. It was a pitty! I ordered tacos and the meat was overcooked. Fries and vegetables good. Kitchen needs to improve.

It's like being on holiday here, the atmosphere is great and the service too. I was here on Mother's Day and the mothers had a great time. This was our first time here but we all said we would definitely come back!

Looks super deluxe for nice prices. Service is top, attentive, and nice personal. Good entertainment! Food was excellent, innovative and exceeds all expectations. The desserts are also top, you can't get enough of them. The Îlle Flottante is really recommended for dessert! Will definitely recommend it and come back.

Disappointing Experience – Underwhelming Food and Service Our visit to this restaurant was unfortunately disappointing. The risotto was a real letdown—it tasted like overcooked instant rice soaked in bland broth, overloaded with spongy mushrooms. There was no trace of Parmesan, neither in flavor nor texture. Instead of being creamy, it was watery and slimy, with liquid visibly pooling on the plate. The Steak Frites was slightly better—the meat was okay, but the fries were far too salty. With a little more balance in seasoning, the dish could have been enjoyable. At first, one staff member was very friendly, which gave us a good impression. Unfortunately, she disappeared after a while, and from that moment on, the service noticeably declined. No one checked on us after the food was served, and it took an unusually long time for the plates to be cleared. When someone finally asked if I wanted something else, I had already lost my appetite. Mistakes in the kitchen can happen, but there was no real effort to acknowledge or correct the situation. To top it off, when we received the bill, a staff member jokingly asked, “I hope we weren’t too slow with the service?” Given that only two other tables were occupied, this question didn’t seem genuine and left a bad last impression. Since we were staying at the Hotel Element, we had expected at least a certain level of effort in service. Unfortunately, this experience was disappointing enough that we wouldn’t consider booking this hotel again. For future guests, I would advise managing expectations when dining here. The food quality was inconsistent, and service was unreliable.

El risotto fue una verdadera decepción: sabía a arroz instantáneo demasiado cocido empapado en caldo blando, sobrecargado de hongos esponjosos. No había rastro de parmesano, ni en sabor ni en textura. En lugar de ser cremoso, era acuoso y viscoso, con líquido visiblemente charcándose en el plato. Las papas fritas estaban un poco mejor, la carne estaba bien, pero las papas fritas eran demasiado saladas. Con un poco más de equilibrio en el condimento, el plato podría haber sido agradable. Al principio, un miembro del personal era muy amable, lo que nos dio una buena impresión. Desafortunadamente, desapareció después de un tiempo, y a partir de ese momento, el servicio disminuyó notablemente. Desde que nos alojamos en el Hotel Element, habíamos esperado al menos un cierto nivel de esfuerzo en el servicio. Desafortunadamente, esta experiencia fue lo suficientemente decepcionante como para que no consideremos reservar este hotel de nuevo. Para los futuros huéspedes, aconsejaría gestionar las expectativas cuando se come aquí. La calidad de la comida era inconsistente, y el servicio no era confiable.

Nice, beautifully decorated restaurant with nice service. It was Valentine's evening and we were not in the Valentine's part of the restaurant, so we were forgotten and it took quite a while before we could order. We both had a steak and I didn't think the quality matched the price. The dessert, on the other hand, was unsurpassed. In short, moderately positive

The restaurant has a cool laidback vibe. The service wasn’t there at first, we waited about 10-15 minutes before someone came out of the kitchen to take my order. The food was just awful! The cook of the burger patty looked beyond well done and the texture was a medium rare. I think it might’ve been lamb/pork mix???, but really not sure. The seasoning and taste were just off, kind of rancid tasting. They forgot the bacon, pickles and grilled corn, I asked for mayo and no sauce, but that was ignored. The fries were bits of hard pieces thrown in my box with a pile of mayo squeezed next to them. Really over priced and just gross. I just threw 25€ away. 👎🏻

Great atmosphere and good service. But boy o boy the food was sub-standard. If there was to give negative points i would give. We ordered steak fries, burger and pasta. All substandard. Sorry team - the kitchen did a bad job. The only good thing was fries were good. This is a great location and ambience is great. Food needs to improve.

Cozy restaurant in Gelderlandplein. We had a team dinner as 12 people. Food is always delicious. I had sticky salmon, it was good but I don’t like rice. Instead, they can serve potato or salad with salmon. Cheesecake was good but so heavy. Service is a bit slow.

Great place at a very convenient location. The food is full of flavours, the menu has plenty of options and the staff is friendly. Decor and cool atmosphere are a plus as well. Overall a great experience! P.S.: Upon arrival, I thought the restaurant was closed! It took me a while to realise that the day entrance is via the hotel lobby and the tables service is at the upper floor… maybe a clearer sign would ensure no one misses this very nice restaurant! ;-)

Très agréable expérience, que ce soit au petit déjeuner le matin avec un bon buffet et une déco réussie ou le soir pour un dîner plus intime dans un cadre cosy avec une ambiance très Hemingway ! Le repas était bon, mais une mention toute particulière pour l’excellent accueil et service d’Alexandre ! Le resto dispose aussi d’un incroyable rooftop qui doit être vraiment top en été. Il n’était pas ouvert le soir de notre venue car il pleuvait mais nous avons pu le voir et il est exceptionnel. Bref bonne adresse, que ce soit pour le resto ou l’hôtel Élément.

I would only recommend going there for Lunch, that was good. But we came there for dinner and that was disappointing. Quite expensive for how minimal and basic the food is. Dessert for €10,-, which was just some berries thrown on a plate. Or “loaded fries” with very little cheese and nearly no sauce. So wouldn’t not recommend going there for dinner. Waste of your money.

Staff is friendly and it looks cozy inside. We had a nice lunch. There are some simpler lunch dishes on the menu (which look a bit sparse/austere in the photos of fellow reviewers, especially for the price I saw on the menu), but my choice (the flatbread with steak pieces, see I also found one of the photos surprising and delicious. I think the prices on the menu are high, but the rest is good!

Nice terrace, although there was some wind. We did suffer from wasps with our drinks and snacks. No wasp trap seen. Staff (manager) was very friendly.

Staff shortages are clearly noticeable. If you ask 3 times for the bill and someone keeps walking and then you find out that someone speaks English. Being told at 1pm on a Saturday that the club sandwich has run out. I wonder if you want to sell or not. At the GP you can get bread and toppings everywhere, what is available, I wonder. Then we opted for 3 croquettes on bread. And indicated that he wanted to share this. We literally get 1 plate, 2 croquettes and 3 slices of bread on a loaf of bread. 0 presentation, no lettuce leaves, no butter, nothing at all. Not a good experience. The cappuccino is delicious and the cookie super fresh.

Mi marido y yo vinimos a Amsterdam para nuestra luna de miel y nos alojamos en el hotel adjunto a Papas Loft House. Comimos aquí para el almuerzo y luego un par de días después para la cena y ambas experiencias fueron fantásticas. Tuvimos un nuevo camarero para el almuerzo que explicó esto y disculparse por cualquier error (no había ninguno) y fue tan amable y rápido. Luego fuimos a cenar a la casa loft la noche siguiente y conocimos a la gerente Laura (espero que sea correcto) que fue un placer tener detrás de la barra. Ella era amable, divertido y amable a pesar de que llegamos treinta minutos antes de cerrar para una copa rápida. Charlamos sobre esto y aquello mientras ella capacitaba simultáneamente a la nueva empleada antes mencionada y limpiaba el bar. Un par de días después volvimos al loft para cenar y ella era, de nuevo, un lugar realmente brillante en unas vacaciones ya fantásticas. Aunque no era nuestra servidora, se acordó de nosotros y vino a saludarnos, habló de nuestro viaje y nos dio sugerencias para la cena y el postre. El asistente del gerente nos esperó y también fue divertido y muy rápido con cualquier cosa que habíamos pedido o necesitábamos. La comida estaba bien valorado para el ambiente encantador y la comida, las bebidas no podrían haber sido mejores, y el personal era fantástico cada vez que hemos ido. En general, no podría haber pedido un mejor lugar para visitar y sin duda volveré a visitar cuando finalmente regresemos!

Far too many rules at the establishment connected to a very fine hotel along with rude waitstaff. After a long day of travel, we arrived well prior to closing and the kitchen had supposedly already closed, not a great welcoming. Then, we had the included breakfast that was barely anything good to eat, thankfully the coffee machine was good. Tried dinner the following night well before closing and of course were told the starters could not be ordered with 2 hours prior to closing, yet again interesting. Then after another great day in Zaansse we returned to the hotel to rest and attempted dinner yet again. Yet again, was told starters had to be ordered promptly with yet another rude tone from the server. Then of course they were out of the ribeye for the night.... here's an idea, have more of your very limited menu available for ordering.

Only English is spoken, and breakfast was very disappointing if you are used to Van der Valk and you still pay enough for a room there, while the rooms are great.

Discovered this gem on the outer edge on Gelderlandplein. Special atmosphere and very nicely decorated. We actually saw people going up the stairs, but I just read that there is a large roof terrace upstairs 😳 Definitely going back because it was so beautiful downstairs and the coffee was very tasty. Right next to the hotel lounge, which makes it look even more chic and equipped with a large and luxurious toilet. Friendly ladies, they speak English and the other lady speaks Dutch 💐

Tonight my wife and I ate dinner at Papa’s Loft in Amsterdam. We stayed at the hotel next door and it seemed a good idea considering it was raining. I gave them a two star rating and I will tell you why. 1. Menu was limited and pricy for most items. 2. My wife ordered Miso Salmon. Salmon was under cooked to a point where it was not flakey. It was rare / sushi in center. 3. I ordered the wild tuna. Menu description sounded good with a grilled Tuna steak and spicy rice and a sesame dressing on greens. Well what came was a small piece of tuna steak. Dry and over cooked. White rice with no seasoning and a few greens and cooked carrots with no dressing. Basically no seasoning on anything. 4. Server asks us how things are and we reluctantly share our concerns. 5. She takes my wife’s salmon back and cooks it perfectly. My wife is now happy. 6. Server hands me a small tin of dressing and says here is more dressing. I had eaten the rice and greens by the time she returned, 7. Our Order included hot water $3.50 euro . Carbonated water X 2 (on bar soda gun) $7.00 euro. Bottom line: We won’t be back and wish we had gone somewhere else for our last night in Amsterdam.

our experience yesterday at this particular restaurant was very bad, the restaurant was dirty, after the waitress dropped the whole tray with the food on it, they didn't even bother to bring us a new plate because the food from the tray that fell got into the rest dishes the quality of the food though very poor and in no way worth the money

The service is very friendly, Andrei is a very good waiter! The dishes are special... The poached eggs Florentine with spinach are very good, the Dutch croquettes are very special with a lot of nutmeg in them and I don't like them at all, the nachos supreme are OK but we're looking for a bit of cheese.... In short, the kitchen is not the best... But the service yes!

On 25 February 2024, we had lunch at Papa’s Loft House with my partner and baby. We purchased 2 teas afterwards. Since the water was not warm enough I asked the waitress to refill the half glass cup with new warm water. They refilled it but charged me a full new tea price!! This is very funny, I did not get new tea ☕️ with a new cup and cookie. It was only half cup. When we rejected this, they were so rude and said they charge extra and consider this is a new purchase! I think this is a terrible customer service. We already had our lunch and it was the restaurant’s fault serving not warm water. And charging extra for water?! Really ! How can you gain new customers like this? Even though we liked the environment ( it was our first time), after this treatment we are sure that we will not go there anymore and will not advise it to anyone. Small amounts make big faults..

We had a 3-course menu dinner. The food was really good and the portions were big. The service was good, but when they offered bread before the starter would be great if the server would mention that we had to pay for it (usually in other restaurants it comes before dinner for free so we didn’t expect that and had to pay for it, the price for bread waa 7,5eu) Atmosphere very very cozy, especially the fireplace. Overall was a great experience.

The atmosphere is very comfortable, especially for groups. We, 8 people who had not seen each other for a while, sat and chatted for 4 hours, shouting and screaming. The music is nice. We brought snack plates, fried potatoes and shrimp, they were quite delicious. Cocktail varieties are rich, their taste is not bad.

The Fab Friday drinks with live music are highly recommended!

Very tasty burgers. A bit of pricy but really worth it. The staff were nice, I really recommend this place if you're going with a family. And the bear there is tasty and cold.

We hebben hier al een aantal keer gegeten. Eten is lekker, bediening is vriendelijk. De kaasfondue en de mosselen zijn een aanrader. Prima huiswijn.

We thought... how nice, to try a restaurant in the area that we haven't heard of yet... give it a try! The Restaurant is a bit hidden on the outside of Gelderlandplein. The inside looks really nice and attractive. They also have quite a large roof terrace for the summer! The staff were friendly but very inexperienced and were not properly supervised. Which is a shame because they can get a lot more out of it. The food was not special. We wouldn't come back anytime soon because the price-quality ratio is too expensive for what you get and experience.

We hebben heerlijk gegeten! De sfeer is erg gezellig met leuke muziek. We zaten aan een hoge tafel bij de bar met heerlijke stoelen. Het personeel was erg gastvrij. We zouden zeker terugkomen.

Leuk ingericht, wijntje was lekker de koffie mwa. De appeltaart alles behalve vers en ijskoud. De kaassnacks waren ze vergeten en toen ze uiteindelijk kwamen waren onze drankjes al op. Gelukkig geen nieuwe besteld want die snack was niet lekker, droog en smakeloos. 7 stuks voor €10,00. Het valt het personeel wel op dat dingen blijven staan maar daar doen ze niets mee. Na betaling feedback gegeven en de manager zou even geïnformeerd worden maar andere zaken waren belangrijker. Een collega die verstopte zich achter het koffieapparaat. Wij wilde gaan vertrekken omdat er geen behoefte hadden om wederom te wachten. Heb de medewerker nog verteld dat dit niet betuigd van goede customer service. Hij vond echter dat de prioriteit bij de nieuwe klanten lag en zag verder geen problemen. Advies; leer om te communiceren! Dat sommige zaken niet helemaal naar verwachting gaan is niet erg, maar je klant na betaling en feedback negeren is wel erg! Jammer, wij zullen niet terugkeren. Duur, slechte kwaliteit eten en belabberde customer service.

Hele simpele tip aan het management bij deze (waarschijnlijk) nieuwe onervaren plek: Als je uithangborden hebt met allerlei gerechten en lunch specials verwachten mensen dat ze dat daar kunnen eten. Vervolgens na een drankje, (in plaats van vooraf )te horen krijgen dat jullie alleen burgers hebben is heel erg onprofessioneel. Als je het niet hebt haal dan het bord weg ipv mensen misleiden. Succes in de toekomst!
