The food was absolutely delicious. Spot on. The service was friendly and attentive, zero remarks. The reason it's not 5 stars is because I thought the price was quite steep. Highly recommend this place, mostly of your wallet is thick :)

I visited Pendergast during a short vacation in Amsterdam, which I found on Google Maps while searching for BBQ restaurants. The good reviews piqued my interest, so I went there on the first evening of my trip – not exactly close to my accommodation, but hopefully worth it. And, what can I say: It was definitely worth it. Since I didn't know exactly when I'd arrive, I didn't have a reservation and hoped for luck; otherwise, I would have reserved for the next evening – but it wasn't necessary; after a short wait, which I spent sitting on a bench outside with a drink, I got a table. The beef brisket I ordered was incredibly tender, juicy, and flavorful. The meaty beans on the side were more than fitting. I was absolutely thrilled – not least because of the excellent Butcher's Tears beer they serve there. Definitely worth a visit – I'd love to come back when I'm back in Amsterdam.

I’m so happy we found this little spot! It’s tucked away in a quiet residential area, which adds to its charm. We ordered the shared platter with pork ribs, brisket, and short ribs- my favorite was definitely the short ribs. They were fatty, juicy, and had that perfect chewy texture. For sides, we went with the bbq beans, coleslaw, and mac & cheese. We shared the platter with 3 and it was enough to fill us up. I’d especially order the coleslaw again—it was a pleasant surprise. Instead of the usual creamy mayo style, it was a sweet and sour cabbage slaw that cut perfectly through the richness of the meats. Service was excellent, too. We finished the water on our table, and without even asking, they brought over a fresh bottle just a few minutes later. Little things like that make a big difference. We’ll definitely be back!

Had the share plates with pulled pork, brisket and pork cheeks. The pulled pork was amazing and the rest was also really good, including the lovely Pecan Pie! Friendly and laid back atmosphere, and great service. Will definitely come back again soon!

The service was friendly and fast, and the food was delicious! Super tender brisket. The sides were also delicious. The coleslaw wasn't a mayonnaise slop, but thinly sliced cabbage with a bit of vinegar and mustard seeds (I think). A refreshing side dish to go with the filling meat.

We ordered the share plates - The pork ribs, pork cheeks and brisket were absolutely delicious. Deserts are homemade and one better than the other, the NY cheesecake was 10/10. The waitress was supper friendly. To repeat for sure.

Excellent meat!! Brisket was very tender and delicious. Side dishes and cocktails were also tasty. Portions are big and enough for a person with side dishes. Staff were welcoming and the restaurant was nice. We sat at the bar and could have our dinner.

The food was really good and there were many surprisings tastes to be discovered. Highly recommend the pork cheeks and brisket. Only downside was the acoustics (it gets pretty loud when it's full)

small place (reserve well ahead), living room vibe. We were greeted with big smiles. 5 persons, we ordered two sharing menus @88 euro per plate so we could try 6 mains and 6 sides. The brisket, salmon and beans sides were the absolute highlights. Homemade table sauce complemented the ribs nicely. Cocktails were lovely also. will certainly come back.

Excellent experience. I’ve never had smoked meat like this and it was so delicious and tender. Also every single side was amazing. Our server was younger but super helpful and nice. Very good stuff guys. Will definitely be coming back.

Being from Kansas City, we understand BBQ and the History of Pendergast! There were 6 of us, and if you love olives, the fried olives are awesome, the fried burnt ends were delicious, and we all enjoyed a variety of entrees & sides & cocktails! We also enjoyed the quaint setting and location

Wasn't as good as I remember it being when I visited years back. The meat was dry (especially the turkey thigh), and the beef brisket was extremely overpriced for the quantity of meat provided. Service was fine, but wouldn't rush back due to the prices not reflecting the quality or quantity.

One of the best restaurants I've visited in Europe! They serve brisket the authentic American way. The smoky flavor is evident, and the meat is tender and flavorful. The service is excellent, and the staff are courteous. Advance reservations are a must.

The food is very good, although the ribs were very dry and lacking in flavor; in my opinion, they lacked caramelized BBQ sauce. The pork cheeks were perfect, and the brisket was also very good. The mac and cheese was the best I've ever eaten in my life, and the service was friendly, unobtrusive, and quick. Unfortunately, they were overcharged when I checked out. I pointed this out and was met with little surprise, although the money was refunded almost without a word. It didn't feel like an oversight. There's very little space at the table, but it's perfectly adequate.

Insanely good authentic American BBQ dishes. The brisket melts on your tongue, the ribs were cooked just right so that the meat almost fell off the bone; but still has just a little bit of bite. The pork cheeks were also wonderfully prepared, soft juicy and so full of flavor. All the meat had the characteristic smoke ring, a sign of very good preparation. The classic sides were certainly not to be missed and were all delicious. After the meal, the chef (or owner) told us about the process in the kitchen. You can feel and taste the passion here, I will gladly come back here again. (and then again, and again)

PARADISE 🇺🇸 they have Dire Straits and Tony Joe White to accompany fantastic brisket. It is tender, with juicy fatty parts, yet, crispy sides. Coleslaw is pretty much cabbage with vinegar, still, a perfect memory of America ❤️❤️✨

Pendergast is a small restaurant in an onassuming street in Amsterdam. The restaurant itself self is not large in space, but it does feel like eating at a friend's place. The food is served rather quickly and the service is absolutely top notch! If you love meat, this is a place for you. I reconmend the ribs, deliciously marinated, grilled and smoked. The cornbread was a hit! Soft, spongy and slightly sweet. And the beetsalad...oh the beet salad! Also the peacanpie is amazing. So nutty, sweet like caramel and buttery. Everything else was unfortunately not my piece of meat. I could do without the salads they serve, but to each their own. The best of all was the service, so friendly and helpful!

We came for the meat - and the meat was good! Pecan pie was absolutely delicious, we even took some home with us. The sides were not good though, the cabbage slaw had a very strange flavor, mashed was just ok.

Amazing food and really nice cocktails. Super unassuming place with a neutral theme. One thing is that there is a table right next to the toilet door. We didn't sit there but I would have been uncomfortable if we did, it nearly slides open onto that table, would remove that table. My brisket was a tiny bit tough but I think it was just the half I shared with my partner, his side portion was great. We had pork cheeks and ribs - all amazing. my husband and I agree probably best meat dishes in Amsterdam.

I would recommend this restaurant to everyone! The brisket burnt ends as a starter alone…😍 not to mention all the delicious main courses and side dishes! The meat has a nice bbq flavor and is super tender! Furthermore, the atmosphere in the restaurant is also good and the service is very nice and they took our previously indicated dietary requirements into account😊 if I lived outside Amsterdam I would travel to Amsterdam for this restaurant

Absolutely loved it, the brisket, my personal benchmark, was so tender and flavorful, definitely one of the better brisket I've had! I really loved the sides as well, especially the meaty beans, hashbrowns and mashed potato. My pesonal letdown was the turkey, however their homemade barbecuesauce mad up for that. Then the pecan chocolate pie with bourbon whipped cream made the experience one to absolutely come back for. We were with 7 guests, they recommended 2 or three spreads, which is a good recommendation in order to be able to try a lot of different cuts.

Pendergast is down home barbecue from the South. The meats, the sides, the desserts, all take you back to meals in Austin Texas, or Kansas City. The prices are significant, but you have to expect that for the time it takes to coax these flavors and textures out of these dishes. The cocktails are exceptional for a restaurant with this kind of food as well. Have already recommended this to several friends.

Have been in this place a couple of times and never get disappointed any single time, Pendergast is always one of the best in Amsterdam when it comes to bbq. Also, they have quite some interesting and nice cocktails, definitely worth to try.

Soooo good! As Americans living in the Netherlands, one of the things we miss from home is good BBQ, and Pendergast delivers. The beef brisket fell apart on the plate, and my boyfriend said that the ribs were phenomenal. We will definitely be back when we're feeling hungry and homesick.

Food is great. The place is quite small so it's always quite warm and loud. But the food makes it worth it.

The brisket is exceptional! Soft, tasty, perfectly smoked — a real treat. Absolutely perfect with mash, mac & cheese or red beans, all excellent. On the other hand, a little disappointment with the coleslaw, quite bland and without relief. But nothing that detracts from the overall experience: I will go back just for the brisket!

I have been a regular customer for 5 years now, and it used to be my 5+ star recommendations for anyone asking. Unfortunately, the food quality has dramatically plummeted in the last few months. The brisket, the specialty I would have recommended to enjoy, is no more the same: the meat is dry, and very hard to cut (and digest). Not sure if there was a change in the kitchen or of the supplier, but things are very different now taste-wise. I am unfortunately starting to hope to find other places in town serving similar food.

The food here is excellent. I’ve been to three top BBQ places in Kansas City (Gates, Joe’s, Jack Stack) and the food here is far better than any of them. There’s a BBQ restaurant a mile from my home in Austin, TX that just received a Michelin star and the brisket, pulled pork, and ribs at Pendergast are on a similar level. The portions are not very large for the money here, but it’s still worth it. They have a great cocktail menu too. We came back to Amsterdam this year and made a point of getting back to Pendergast, they’re doing it right. If you can’t get a reservation they have four seats at the bar you might be able to slip into if you arrive early.

This place is great. The owner is very kind and even shared some city/food tips with us during our visit. This was a major benefit because if not for him we would not have had the chance to experience a Rijsttafel ("rice table") dinner which is a unique Dutch style of serving Indonesian food. The location is quite small so be sure to book a table in advance. The staff is friendly and the food is excellent. The brisket is some of the best we've had and both the loinback ribs and turkey thigh are also wonderful. We also enjoyed the potato mash, pickled veg, Pendergast salad, and coleslaw. Also, the yummy barbecue sauce is made inhouse. It smells heavenly when you walk in and the owner confirmed he uses an Old Hickory rotisserie pit to smoke the meat, so legit techniques are in play here. This place is worth a stop if you enjoy barbecue and are visiting Amsterdam.

We ordered the share plates for €88 - The pork ribs were absolutely delicious, and I wish we had 3 servings of that. The brisket was good also, but the turkey thighs were quite dry and not that enjoyable. The homemade bbq sauce and the sides included were also top notch, and the NY cheesecake to finish it off was 10/10. The service was some of the best service we've experienced. He was so friendly and attentive and definitely loved what he was doing.

The food is really tasty, one of my favorites place in Amsterdam to be honest. The waiters were really friendly and profesional, this is good and difficult to found around the city. The only “bad” thing is the meats are going cold really fast, in my opinion I think they need to serve more warm.I really like it too the dressing for the salad and I found the pumpkin a little bit raw, I think miss a few minutes cooked. I will repeat again for sure!!

A US-style smokehouse with truly exceptional cuts of flavorful meat (brisket, etc.). The side dishes are also very tasty. And a lovely little charming spot with a few tables where the tram passes by. A world of its own, unrivaled in the Netherlands. An absolute winner.

We came back to Pendergast for a second time, and once again, it did not disappoint. The food here is truly top-notch, making it one of the best spots in town for authentic barbecue. This time, we ordered the brisket and ribs, paired with beans and mac & cheese. The brisket was perfectly smoked, incredibly tender, and had that beautiful melt-in-your-mouth texture. The ribs were just as impressive, juicy, flavourful, and with just the right amount of smokiness. The sides complemented the meal perfectly: the beans were rich and hearty, while the mac & cheese was creamy and indulgent. By the end of the meal, we were beyond satisfied. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but the quality of the food more than justifies the cost. If you're looking for high-quality barbecue in a cozy and welcoming setting, Pendergast is the place to go. We’ll be back again!

I have now been here twice within a week and I am sure: I will come back here very often. You don't often find the real taste of the American smoker in the Netherlands, but at Pendergast you feel like you are in the south of the States. Delicious meat (ribs, pork belly, brisket), excellent side dishes (mac'n cheese, corn bread), everything with care and yet super quickly (after all, it has been in that smoker for many hours) on the table. Also suitable for 'quick yet tasty', for example before a film, theater or concert - and just a stone's throw from the Westergasfabriek. March 2025: Always a pleasure. Not great, not terrible. If you've had proper BBQ you'll be disappointed. Not a fan of the twist on the side dishes either, like, do the basics but do them right please.

We had a lovely experience at Pendergast! The service was super friendly and welcoming, making the atmosphere even more enjoyable. The brisket was of course the highlight, extremely tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor (one of the nicest I've had). Every bite was delicious. Although it was a bit on the pricey side, it was worth every penny. NY cheesecake was dreamy as well!

This is a great place to dinner, they have a fantastic assortiment of meat dishes and side dishes. You definitely have to try the Brisquet.

Amerikaans concept met super vriendelijk personeel. Mac en cheese side was geweldig. Had de brisket als hoofdgerecht, de smaak was super het vlees was alleen niet zo mals als verwacht. Zeker een aanrader als er interesse is in de Amerikaanse keuken. Ik ben zelf niet zo van vlees, maar heb hier heel goed gegeten. De bediening is erg gastvrij en vriendelijk. De bierkaart is best uitgebreid en het is er gezellig. Het eten is zo lekker, vooral de brisket! Mouth-watering! Brisket is hier zo mals en zacht en je proeft echt de bbq. De ribs zijn ook zo heerlijk.

What a find! Such a good restaurant. We only stayed in Amsterdam two nights, although this was quite a walk away from central it was absolutely worth it. The food was insanely good, the brisket was just amazing and the ambience was just nice. It was really reasonably priced too. Would certainly revisit when returning to Amsterdam

Heerlijk avond je uit. Hebben , als bbq liefhebbers, ontzettend lekker gegeten. Op aanbeveling van vrienden de brisket gegeten, top keuze! Borden ook leuk opgemaakt en bediening uiterst vriendelijk. Sfeervol restaurant, mede dankzij dat het geen groot restaurant is.

I ate their for the first time in 2 years. The brisket was so good and I was so well fed that I didn't think about getting desert until my uncle mentioned it. I had the cheesecake and I am not a cheesecake guy, or even a cake guy in general, but i think that was the best piece of cake that i ever put inside of my mouth in my whole life. I'm coming back, not because I can afford to eat brisket but because I need to eat more of their cheesecake. Get the cheesecake. Dudok sucks compared to it

The food: Very nice Smokey BbQ meat , I had the ribs and they were delightful if a little fatty. The beetroot pickle was lush. Portions not American in size; on the small side but this is fine by me. Salad side and potatoe very tasty. The place : Even though it’s a small restaurant it somehow fails to create a gazellig atmosphere.. the plain white walls creating an excessive echo so when busy it was very hard to hear what people even right opposite me a were saying. I also feel that they could make more of the BBQ by showing it, making the cooking visible. But maybe that’s a bit of a big ask.
