Piccolo in Oude Stad

We were right on time for our reservation, but had to wait outside in the cold for 25 minutes before our table was ready. The food was tasty, but the portions are really too small. We ordered an extra main course because we were still hungry after dinner. The waitress (owner?) was not very friendly or apologetic about the long wait. All in all, a bit disappointing.

We went here for a drink with a group this afternoon and ordered two portions of tapas. We thought we were only getting one portion, but no, we were assured there really were two. For €32, there was a small dish with three small sausages, two slices of aubergine with some melted cheese on top, two toasted pieces of bread with some diced tomatoes, the same with some mushroom pieces, and two small pieces of wrap with some tomato sauce... So this was the first and immediately my last visit here.

Very good food, lovely pizzas, good service, would eat there again

The soup was as thin as water, diluted with oil and a chili pepper. The pizza crust was as thin as a newspaper. Not recommended for eating there. Still hungry afterwards, we continued our dinner outing at another restaurant.

I had the pizza margarita; it tasted good. The base of all the pizzas is very thin and the crust is also very thin and crispy. I really like that, but then again, I'm normally not much of a pizza lover. I would describe the base more as a flatbread base than a pizza base, so if you are a pizza lover, you might not find this the best place 😉 The Tiramisu is served in a small drinking glass, which isn't very pretty. I also found the taste unremarkable.

A really lovely spot for pizza. We have visited Haarlem a few times over the last couple of years and Piccolo has always made it onto our agenda. The service is friendly, the pizzas are delicious and the beers are cold! Great location too, right on the square, and very good value for money.

We ordered: 1 Margherita pizza, this was submerged in tomato sauce, little mozzarella and 2 basil leaves 1 Quattro Formaggi pizza, lots of tomato sauce, hardly any 4 cheeses, flakes of cheese? (even supermarket pizza clearly has much more of the 4 cheeses) 1 beer that went flat in the glass.. this one was dirty.. but the other glass was the same 1 white wine, not cold, lukewarm, tasted like mixed with water? Really not good, strange glass for wine Sunny day, terrace not set up so only 5 seats, very uninviting It was super busy at all the places around us, but we wanted to eat pizza and at Piccolo like I used to be used to there a long time ago, good and tasty. We left very disappointed, left half-drunk beer and wine In hindsight, we think we shouldn't have paid for such poor quality of everything.. terrible Piccolo.. Grote Markt .. never again

We had a delicious and extensive meal on Saturday evening. Delicious Italian dishes. We had to wait a bit for a table but were offered drinks for the wait. It's a small restaurant with a bit of organized chaos on a busy night, but the staff are quick to resolve the issue and friendly. Highly recommended!

Cozy Italian restaurant with an Italian owner, nice atmosphere, delicious pizza with a crispy thin crust. The Primitivo house wine was delicious. Excellent value for money. I'll definitely be back.

We enjoyed it immensely, good service and delicious food.

Great service and the food was fairly decent. We were able to call ahead and reserve a table which was nice since we had a large group. The staff was so kind and very patient with us, especially the kids. I wished the Margherita pizza had more cheese on it but the kids ate it all as is. Portion sizes for the pasta are on the small side; great if you plan on ordering appetizers, soup or dessert. Not so great if it's all you're getting. I was still hungry when I left but overall everyone had a great time. It was a very cozy place and I would have loved to stay for coffee and dessert but it just wasn't happening once the toddlers were done eating.

Unlike all other restaurants that we visited in Holland, this is the one to avoid. The food is OK, but the service is terrible. Our waiter was careless, disorganized, and forgetful. After taking our order he came 30 minutes later asking to remind him about the wine that we ordered. After another 30 minutes of waiting he asked us if we got our salad. He also got confused about our entrees. The owner was rather apologetic but it did not make up for the bad experience.

We had classic pizza with some red and rose wine! It’s the best pizza I’ve ever had I must say! Amazing vibes! Staff was really sweet! We truly enjoyed the place and the food!

We stumbled upon Piccolo by chance. The terrace was busy, but there was a spot available inside. Something went wrong with our first round of drinks, but after that, it was a very pleasant and idyllic experience. The prices aren't high, but with three courses, there's still plenty of room. True to Italian tradition, you can also enjoy a multi-course meal here. The atmosphere is truly fantastic. Most of the staff speaks Italian, which makes it even more enjoyable.

We had a wonderful meal 🍝🍕🇮🇹. We were served quickly and sat in the sun. Good value for money. Two glasses of wine, one bottle of water, ravioli, and a pizza for €41.

I've never had such an unpleasant experience in a restaurant. The staff is very pushy. When we went for drinks at 5:00 PM, a waiter came to our table three times to tell us to order food, and we had to reassure them that we were still going to order. That's not good service, is it? That's pure customer unfriendliness. And no joke, during this time they turned away people six times for drinks—even though there was plenty of room, which creates a rather uninviting atmosphere. I'm not one for writing (bad) reviews, but I went to (I think) the owner and told him, but he calmly shrugged, "Well, that's life" and "I don't lose any sleep over it." If the location hadn't been nice, this restaurant wouldn't have had any customers. The food was fine, but very limited.

We went here for pizza with some friends on a Saturday. We received friendly service, the pizza was okay, and the lasagna was great!

A delicious organic restaurant in the heart of Haarlem, right on the Grote Markt. Pleasant atmosphere, a small, authentic Italian family business with excellent pizzas. We'd be happy to return anytime.

This place is a disaster. The waiter who came to assist us was extremely rude, and I believe he was racist. There were people around us who were only having drinks, but when we said we only wanted to have drinks, they told us we couldn’t and that we had to order food. Then they made us leave the table. It’s really disappointing to see such a rude and disrespectful place in the heart of a beautiful city like Haarlem. Do not come here.

We had a really great evening with a group of 20 people at Restaurant Piccolo! All kinds of delicious starters and main courses were put on the table to share, which was super cozy. The hostess paid close attention to whether we had enough and regularly checked if we wanted anything else - super attentive and hospitable. The atmosphere was nice, the service friendly and the food really tasty. We felt really welcome. Thank you very much for this nice evening!

The pizza is okay. The service is unfriendly; full drinks are simply cleared from the table. If you don't pay quickly enough, you'll be rudely asked to leave the restaurant. Not recommended!

The most amazing Spezzatino al primitivo! Everything really tasted sooo great. Great service, very nice location.

Friendly service, but the food was too salty, the pasta was not “al dente” it was really undercooked. The pizza has almost no cheese and the pizza dough was really thin and flaky. The environment was nice and a lovely spot, but the food unfortunately was not good.

A disappointing experience – poor service and long wait Unfortunately, our visit was a big disappointment. Right from the start, things went wrong – we waited over an hour for our food. Half of the drinks were forgotten, and the food only came to two out of five people. When the last of us finally got our food, the first ones had already finished eating. My husband asked politely if his pizza had been forgotten. Instead of an apology, he got the very unprofessional answer from the owner: “If you don’t want to wait, you can just leave.” That’s the worst answer I’ve ever heard in a restaurant. My own main course was also so small that it looked more like a starter. All in all, a really bad experience. We won’t be back – and can’t recommend the place to others. …

In the middle of Haarlem we felt like we were in Italy! The staff, the food and the atmosphere were great!

The food was not really good, the crust had almost no dough so it was so crunchy making it impossible to eat. The service was ok at best and the staff not very friendly at all!

May 4, '25 I had dinner with my partner, what a disappointment!! We are real pizza/pasta lovers, but we left hungry, especially me. I ordered pasta (spaghetti) but it was a maximum of 6 bites. The menu was also not extensive and there were no soft drinks available. The only positive thing was that they were friendly and because it was Remembrance Day at 8 p.m., they took that into account, so the restaurant was really quiet!

Not recommended! This is perhaps the biggest crappy place in Haarlem... First of all, it starts with that rotten head of the waiter, what a grumpy guy he was! And that pizza was indescribable and they had no soft drinks...

Worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. I went there with my girlfriend. Her pizza looked like the one from the supermarket, but worse and cold. My minestrone soup consisted only of water, onion and fat. They ruin the name of Italian cuisine. Avoid this place!

We have been here quite a few times, but this past year it has gotten worse. We had a table reserved and still had to wait 25 minutes to be seated and no apologies from them. The portions are now much smaller (the pizzas used to stick out of the plate and now they are half that, what happened?). Also the last two times we have ordered burrata salad and they have brought us salad with mozzarella, but when we said that that’s not what we ordered they had the audacity to tell us “yes, that is burrata”. For God’s sake, it was melted! If they don’t have burrata it’s okay to say so and we would have ordered something else, and not paid burrata for mozzarella. I don’t know what has changed here in the last year, but clearly something has happened.

Despite making a reservation, we had to wait half an hour... after 30 minutes we left, no understanding from the staff at all and even became angry after we said that we didn't think this was service. The food will probably be tasty, but the service is poor.

I was here with my two daughters (12 & 8) on a Sunday late afternoon just before it started to get busy. At first we were immediately able to take a seat at a table with room for 4 people, but the service changed our mind after a few minutes because this table had apparently been reserved. We were then seated at a table that was just big enough for 2 people, so this was not an upgrade, on the contrary. We ordered pizzas because we had read all kinds of positive reviews, but I have rarely eaten such bad pizzas in my life. Firstly, there was almost nothing in terms of vegetables or anything on the pizzas and secondly, the base was so bad that it looked more like a worn-out shoe sole and that's how the base tasted. To top it all off, when paying, it turned out that the water we had ordered (in addition to 2 red wines and soft drinks for the kids) also had to be paid for. In short, I have rarely, if ever, experienced such a bad pizzeria and I can only give 1 star for the food. The service was a bit forgetful but nice, hence 3 stars. Highly recommended for people who love a tasty pizza.

Having just arrived in Haarlem after a long flight, we happened on Piccolo, who agreed to fit us in ahead of their 6:30 reservation. We shared a Mista Salad, ravioli, Gambas and a tiramisu. All items were outstanding. Tiny restaurant loaded with charm in a historic building just off the main square. Great experience!!

We were in Haarlem for a day and discovered this cute restaurant. We both had a pizza. It was very, very tasty, freshly prepared. The service was very friendly and accommodating. We were very satisfied and can recommend the restaurant 100%.

Small Italian pizzeria. We ordered bruschetta, margarita pizza, four cheese pizza. We also had tiramisu after the meal. We also had 2 fruite juices and two coffies. I paid around 76 euros in total. Waiters were extremely polite and friendly. Everything we had were delicious. Pizza's are a bit smallish though.

Don't drink the red house wine. Must be mixed with windshield wiper fluid. At your own risk! The lemon cake came from a chemical lab. We have never eaten it so sour. Ravioli as a starter is ridiculously little. Lovely people in the service. But never, ever to return.

Nice environment, On a random Sunday evening we settled here on this cozy, inviting terrace. We tried the menu without any prior knowledge. Unfortunately, after some deliberation we were unable to reach an agreement. So we asked for advice from the knowledgeable staff. We were addressed in Italian/Dutch, which was sometimes quite confrontational because I am a quarter Italian but do not speak a word. "The food is absolutely delicious," according to my group. And the tiramisu was also of excellent quality. We would like to thank this restaurant for its existence and we will return here in 2 years when we can speak Italian.

Great view and friendly staff. We had pizza margherita and insalata burrata. The food was fresh and test good, however one small suggestion: I do think the usage of pepper can be a bit less generous. We had a great time there, the staff were helpful and brought good mood to their customers.

We had a very nice meal here some time ago. That's why we made a reservation for a special day months ago via the site and, just to be sure, also by telephone. We were on the road for 45 minutes, parked in the parking garage, but upon arrival the tent turned out to be closed 'due to a small holiday', it was at the door. Didn't cancel at all, very bad. The employee replied to our email that they could not find our details to cancel. So the data left behind for the online reservation, and that of the telephone, are all untraceable? We will never come here again.

A piece of authentic Italy in Haarlem, from the delicious food to the warm owner. My parents already came here when they came to Haarlem in 1991 and yesterday I celebrated my 20th birthday there

The place is nice and the service was excellent. We took two daisies, good and light. They are very thin, they look like bakers. Average prices (around 10 euros per pizza). Advised!

Very bad. I dont recommend this restaurant. They try to pack as many people as possible. We had a reservation, and despite that we waited 50 minutes ( they kept saying 15 minutes more) while they were trying to make us consume in the bar. At the same time they were pushing people to leave so we can sit. The area was very small, everyone packed. Also food was not good, they served burrata, which was either a very bad quality or not a burrata.

If you have to wait 45 minutes for a table. While you have to make a reservation is really scandalous! After 10 Min told the gentleman that we still had to wait 35 minutes. He asked us to wait next door. People who were there also felt the eyes of others burning in their necks, there were still 3 couples waiting. We will not return to this tent again.

Surprising on a Sunday afternoon. We had a delicious meal and continued to order... authentic and tasty.

The service was friendly and fast, but the food was just not good. I had a pizza and my wife the melanzane. The tomato sauce on the pizza was bland. The toppings were poorly distributed. Few pieces of ham and salami, two very large tough pieces of mozzarella and a few tablespoons of mushrooms that released a lot of moisture. I suspect these came from a can. Water was dripping off my pizza. My wife's melanzane was also not flavorful. Little to no structure and not well seasoned. This is also a dish that they already have ready in a container to quickly heat up. There is no other way. We sat at the back of the restaurant next to the toilet. It's a bit of a mess there anyway and it doesn't look completely clean and tidy. In addition, we started to smell a pit smell halfway through the evening. I wouldn't go here again myself.

Klein, gezellig Italiaans restaurant in het hartje van Haarlem. Vlotte bediening, hele goede keuken, verrassend. Gezellig terras. Gelegenheid tot parkeren is wat lastig, prima per fiets bereikbaar.

Food was very poor… pictures on thereviews are pimped. Interior is old and not clean. Staff was friendly but really, the kitchen has to do better…

Was matig. We moesten ruim een half uur wachten op een gereserveerde tafel. Eten liet daarna nog ruim een uur op zich wachten en was te weinig. Zou het niet aanraden; voelt toeristisch aan.

Bijzondere ervaring. Vriendelijke en stijlvolle bediening. Het eten is smaakvol en verrassend. Er is veel aandacht voor de presentatie van de gerechten. Wat opvallend is de prettige en ontspannende sfeer. Dit is uiteten gaan zoals het hoort te zijn. We komen zeker terug.

Heel lekker gegeten. Een echte Italiaanse restaurant.
