We "were" regular customers for years. We were happy to see how things had changed after the renovations. The first big disappointment was ordering. The nice lady was no longer there, but there were only three impersonal touchscreen ordering systems. Only card payments are accepted, and a cell phone number must be provided. Many people were annoyed there and would have preferred to leave. The cell phone notification (food ready) didn't work... I had no connection. So I stood at the pickup line the whole time. The atmosphere remained impersonal. The seating inside isn't as comfortable as before in the tent. It had a train station concourse feel. We also found the portions considerably smaller than before. Both kibbeling and fries (although they were very tasty) had to be ordered separately from the vending machine with card payment. We didn't do that because I had to wait for the food and didn't know when it would be ready. Before, you could take it with you when you ordered. A real shame. We were absolute fans. This was definitely our last visit for a while. I had to pay too much for my food and "work for myself."

Fresh fish and great mussels. Highly recommended for a self-service restaurant.

It has become a beautiful but boring (take-away) restaurant where you can eat the taken-away food on the terrace. A mussel pan in a disposable pan, salads in ready-made containers, etc. You have to pick up a drink yourself. The last time for us!

Didn't eat but bought fish in the store.

We used to come here regularly, but after the renovation it has become a soulless eatery. Definitely not value for money. They won't see us here again.

Actually more of a kind of fish McdDo. I'm not a fan of digital ordering terminals, but that's the only way it works there. Quality is good, but the price is disproportionately high.

Really fast food-style canteen effect. You have to take your order at a terminal and wait for an SMS to let you know that your order is ready. The prices are fair and the food is not bad but almost everything is put in disposable containers. On the other hand, the place is very clean and accepts dogs indoors.

Visited Neeltje Jans Mosselen after the renovation. The quality was below par and certainly not what we are used to here. The served fries were brought back to the kitchen by several guests. The bickering was floating in the fat. Definitely not value for my money. I have been a regular customer here for years, but not for a while.

Last Wednesday with 4 people Ate kibbeling and fries. Fries were crumbly Kibbeling, the oil ran out. Very bad!!!!!!!!!

We ordered the mussels with bread. Sufficient quantity and nice and fresh, but it could have been cooked a little longer. This means that not all mussels are cooked. The small bread rolls that came with the menu were hard and dry. Enough sauce.

Today we had lunch in the renovated "restaurant". What a mistake. Lekkerbekje 12.50 taste was really good, but had to eat it from a cardboard plate, with plastic cutlery on a pathetic tray. A pan of mussels was also served in disposable material. No, this cannot be called a restaurant. But a fish fast food thing with ordering kiosks and beepers. Once again the gourmet food and mussels were top-notch in terms of taste, but with these prices, presenting them on cardboard and in an aluminum pan is a disrespect to the customer. Too bad because the location demands an experience.

I can agree with Christian koe's assessment 100%. You notice that the costs of the renovation have to be recouped. We ordered large kibbeling and large fries. When you picked it up you might think it was a small portion each. The whole thing for just under €20 and, as Christian Koe aptly described, the quality is worse than before. We always enjoyed going there, but this was our last visit for now.

The new system for ordering food is a disaster. After years of always enjoying eating here, it's over for us.

It's a shame that so much has changed after the renovation, unfortunately not for the better. No atmosphere, order from vending machines. Ordered large kibbeling, 12.95 for 5 pieces changing taste of the crust, half a cup of coffee for 2.75. For 3 coffees 3x pins. We also had 6 pieces of shusi, different types but not very tasty Not worth repeating for us. Really a shame.

Looks neat but far from customer friendly, coffee half a cup for 2.75, for 3 x coffee 3x debit card, ordering also not customer friendly, kibbeling huge chunks and dough jacket also less in taste. Pay more for large chunks and get less. Was a big customer but does not see this anymore in the future

You can taste the difference between the mussels and fish from Zeeland and those we buy here on the market... (Utrecht) it was delicious.

We are here for the first time after the major renovation. We were often guests during the construction work because the quality of the food compensated for the lack of ambience. Unfortunately today it was the other way around. Everything is new and clean - but unfortunately without any charm. It all seems like fast food. Unfortunately also the food. You could have stabbed someone with the fries. 50% of the kibble was empty breading. Whether this was because the frying took too long - or whether there was no fish to begin with - is open to speculation. I hope that the old quality can be restored in the future. Unfortunately, this visit only had the quality of an average stop at KFC

Great location. The kibbeling is made from cod, of high quality, fresh and delicious. Unfortunately the wait times are very long - wait at least an hour and they work slowly. If you are in a hurry you should skip here.

A glorified snack bar with a very limited menu, where the price-quality ratio is completely out of balance. The kibbeling was delicious, it's a pity that the portions are very small for a very large price. Fries were nothing special, except the price and the price for the sauce. You order food and drinks separately and pay separately. You can tap your own drinks. System of 'food is ready' signal does not work. Staff did not pay attention, waste counter was completely full while they had nothing to do. QR codes on the tears outside do not work. No toilet paper in the ladies' toilet. Furthermore, it is a nice, sleek, clean place and the cashier was kind enough to fill a bowl with water for our dog.

Great clam pots and fried fish! Absolutely fresh! The conversion described in the last reviews is practically complete. Minor remaining work is still ongoing, but operations in the new rooms and on the new terrace are already running. The ordering terminals (ordering and payment like at McDonalds) are not yet in operation. QR codes are already attached to the tables outside. Soon you will be able to order and pay using your mobile phone. It was our first, but not our last visit. In the attached shop you can get packaged fresh produce, complete meals and sandwiches.

I stop every time I pass through Holland. For my part, its mussels and fries obliged ahahaha.

The "Proef Zeeland" restaurant offers an outstanding selection of seafood. Currently (March 2025), construction work is taking place there, which we didn't find disruptive. You can enjoy your meal indoors (currently in a large tent) or outdoors. The "kibbelinge" (snacks) were delicious. Currently, self-service is the order of the day. I'd be happy to come back.

The tastiest cod in Zeeland, and we tried a lot of locations

The renovation is coming to an end, so the menu is limited for now, but we still had some delicious cod.

They are doing a renovation. Can get a cup of coffee. Food looks good.

Spontaneous trip to the sea and simply eat a frit special and Frikandel with a great view. And our furry friend Holly was allowed to come along too. The service was great, just like the first time. Friendly, fast service.

We love coming here to eat. Proef Zeeland is currently being rebuilt (it was already in the summer when the large kitchen was still there) and there is now a food truck in front of the door, which is not a bad thing. Unfortunately, Kibbeling and the Lekkerbek died a second time, both were so dry that even the remoulade (I actually always eat without remoulade) didn't make them slide any easier. I threw away half the Lekkerbek. We will only come back after the renovation and hope that everything will be of the same quality that we are used to.

Despite the renovation of the main restaurant, you can eat here in a warm tent. Fresh and top quality. Courteous service. Absolutely recommend kibbeling with saus and fries.

When we were there to eat Kibbeling, the main building was being renovated and the catering business was temporarily maintained with food trucks and a tent, hence the deduction for the ambience. The kibbeling was extremely good, large pieces of cod and the sauce was also delicious. However, I found the prices “sporty”, the medium portion of Kibbeling without fries €10.99, which I think is too much.

Had some bickering, wonderful. I never write reviews but this time. A very big appreciation 👍

Nice area for having lunch break !

Delicious kibbeling meal with good service. Unfortunately they are doing major renovations so the restaurant was closed. That's why they got 1 star for the atmosphere. But it was very nice that they gave us the opportunity to taste the delicious kibbeling using a fish cart. And next year we will definitely come back to eat in the new restaurant.

Also try the fish dishes! Unfortunately, the indicated preparation method is not correct (if covered with aluminum foil, it must be at 190°C for at least 35 minutes) but it is extremely tasty (especially with Bordogne Rosé 🫢. March 2024: Lately some "takeaway" for "export" to Rotterdam. Tapas dish is so delicious and good! Order the day in advance and it will be ready for you! Quickly grab some fresh smoked salmon and fish salads. A N R A D E R! ! ! 4 years ago: "In season" there are always diners. Not without reason, because the quality is exceptionally good! You can also still buy mussels here 😉

As always, we were satisfied with Proef Zeeland! The seafood was incredibly fresh, especially the mussels - you can taste the quality straight away. The fish was perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful. The portions are generous and the price-performance ratio is good. The service was friendly and attentive, and the ambience beautifully captured the maritime flair of the region. If you love fresh fish and seafood, you should definitely stop by here! We'll definitely be back

Delicious food in a beautiful location.

It best to eat there, takeaway isn’t really a great option. It’s not a restaurant it a fishery you order your food thereabouts they have a separate canopy/big tent set up with tables and chairs where you can eat. One good thing in winter it is nice and warm inside

Fresh, delicious fish specialties to order and pick up yourself. Unfortunately there was only plastic cutlery and plastic dishes.

Today we bought 5 kg of large mussels to prepare at home. We have been coming here for many years. We are not used to this quality from you. Lots of broken and open mussels. After cooking, more than half of them did not come out of the shell properly, the muscle edges were hard/tough and the mussel was just not really juicy and tasty. The vegetable packages and sauces that were also purchased were quite disappointing. Very unfortunate since you hope to buy something tasty for a small fortune. I don't know if we will come back.

The kibbeling is very tasty, I have eaten here several times. It depends on who is in the kitchen. The last time the kibbelings were baked a little too long.

The Kibbeling was fantastic. No coalfish or twig, just pure cod fish. Is it pricey? Sure. Really good fish can be more expensive, I think so. But only if it is really good. And that was it.

Nice sea food. Due to building activities atmosphere was not as it could be. Shop is not cheap..but portions for dine in or takeaway are big.

Best mussels, great oysters, perfectly opened and released. The somewhat rudimentary ambience is not a disadvantage and is currently being renovated. The food in the outdoor tent is impressive in stormy weather. Don't worry, it will be warm in it even in cold weather. Eating on site is highly recommended.

On the former work island Neeltje Jans a specialized fish restaurant and shop with fish and seafood. The restaurant has been the tried and tested way to this day, no service but pick-up and clean-up yourself. Reasonable prices and very good quality but not very cozy. Work is underway on a new construction of the restaurant area. Curious what that will look like.

Super tasty fresh fish! Also a good address for seafood. And then I haven't even mentioned the soups and salads. All recommended! You can enjoy your ordered fried fish (possibly with fries) on the (covered heated) terrace. Large parking lot and a toilet.

We ate another delicious mussel menu last Friday. The mussels were sublime in taste and size. The portions were so big that we took another pan home with us. Now just fried with shallot and wow…. How wonderful. We regularly go to PZ on Fridays and enjoy the fish or shellfish...always very good.

The best mussels I have ever eaten, large in size and super fresh. The kiblings are also very good. All dishes are abundant.

Nice shop and lots of selection, but the mussels were bad. It had a suspicious taste/odor so half of it was thrown away.

Unfortunately, this Trial Zeeland is no longer what it used to be. The kibbeling pieces were much too large and undercooked. My plate had 5 pieces my partner's had 8. The atmosphere is really sad. We came here often in the past but today was the last time.

It took a bit of getting used to due to the renovation, but the kibbeling were the very best I've ever eaten.

The mussels were amazing as was the cod, which was huge and without a single bone... we'll definitely be back. Service 4 stars because of self-service and 4 stars ambience because of renovation. Nevertheless, the makeshift restaurant was attractively decorated.

It doesn't get any fresher. All dishes are of great quality. If you like mussels, this is the place for you. But the scampi plate is also a hit. You can also buy the marinade to take home here. It's just not a real restaurant, but it doesn't need to be. Depending on the time of day, you can watch the fishing boats unloading the freshly harvested mussels. Despite the renovation phase, even the tent is comfortably decorated.

Great place to chill! Visited on our holiday to Zeeland to have the famous mussels and some fried haddock! I personally liked the haddock more than the mussels. I felt like the mussels were missing something but they were still very good. Highly recommend, the place is very vibrant and if you go when the weather is good it’s lovely and sunny to sit outside. We visited during peak season so there were lots of people but parking spaces kept opening up all the time.

The food was super tasty and fresh. The shop and temporary tent are good. But they actually sell great clam pots (that you could also use!!), but everything comes in disposable dishes. This is 0.0 sustainable and not environmentally friendly. The operator should also think about that... But as I said: it was delicious!

If you like eating fish and seafood, this is the right place for you! The ambience is “genuine”…if you like it more comfortable, it’s better to take the food home with you and enjoy it there!

We've been there several times during recent holidays in Holland, but the price increases are disproportionate. On average €20 for a meal with a small hand of fries on a paper plate is clearly too much. After 20€ you should be at least halfway full, but given the portions I would have had to order three times. We always enjoyed going there but now it has been removed from our holiday trips.

Oh well. Kibbeling tasted tough. Mussels were tasty but nothing special. Otherwise, unfortunately everything is made of plastic. Mussels come in aluminum foil and cutlery is made of plastic. We won't be coming back. We paid almost €40 for a mussel menu & kibbeling.

Great mussels and beautiful kibbeling. Delicious and super fresh. They come straight from the sea into the kitchen and onto your plate. But the coffee... Oh my goodness, it's awful. Ladies and gentlemen Gastronomers, dear people, there is nothing as good a margin as on coffee. Serve good coffee and you will earn more.
