Herausragendes Menü auf klarem Sterneniveau! Man sitzt sehr schön, Plätze gibt es neben dem Innenraum auch draußen auf dem Platz oder in einem kleinen Innenhof. Das Menü ist sehr abwechslungsreich und auf sehr hohem Niveau. Der Service freundlich und aufmerksam. Auch die weinbegleitung war bestens gewählt! Wir kommen wieder!

Gezellige entourage, hartelijke ontvangst. Met het standaard meergangen menu werd creatief omgegaan: we kozen ons menu zelf en dat was uitstekend. Fijne smaken, mooie combinaties en creaties, een lust voor het oog. Klinkt wat Hollands: het was bovendien veel kwaliteit voor je geld.

They should definitely advertise their vegetarian menu more! The food, the matching wines and the delicious tea with mini desserts afterwards. The decoration and nice intimate atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

A beautiful restaurant. It is located on a bustling square, hidden among the many restaurants. When you enter you will notice that it is a quality store. You will receive a warm welcome and you will be taken care of right away. We took the 7 courses with matched wines, and it was a walk through the different taste palettes, each accompanied by a professional explanation. The food, service and location are an absolute 10/10. It was a great experience, which was taken care of down to the last detail.

Celebrated my wife's birthday at Barres. We read many positive reviews and we wanted to experience it ourselves. It was a fantastic experience!!! 7 course menu with wine pairing. Everything runs so smoothly that it seems as if they are only working on your table. The wine comes out before the meal with a nice explanation, then the next course of food comes, everything is replenished, you really feel like a king at Barres' table. Rarely have you had a restaurant where you are so spoiled for culinary pleasure. Wonderfully quiet and very empathetic service. Gentlemen and ladies of Barres, keep it up, thanks for the great evening!!

For dinner during our company event we chose Restaurant 'Barres' and it was an excellent choice! From the first communication until the evening itself, everything was perfectly arranged. The Barres team were professional, friendly and incredibly helpful, so we didn't have to worry about anything. The location in the center of Middelburg was fantastic; the bus was able to drop us off without any problems which was very convenient. The restaurant itself has a cozy atmosphere and the staff made everyone feel welcome straight away. The food and drinks were delicious and of high quality, and our colleagues were all enthusiastic about the dishes that were served, which were good options for both meat eaters and vegetarians. What made it extra special was the opportunity to organize a quiz. Barres had everything neatly prepared with a screen and microphone, which made for a fun and interactive end to the evening. In short, Restaurant 'Barres' is highly recommended for those looking for a unique dining experience. A big thank you to the whole team for their hospitality and excellent service. Fantastisch gegeten, uitzicht op de fraai verlichte torens van Middelburg, aardige bediening, de maandagavond werd echt een feestje. Iedere gang was verrassend, verfijnd, licht en perfect bij de volgende gang. De aanbevolen wijn was zo goed, dat we zes flessen hebben meegenomen… nog lang thuis nagenieten!

Fantastic food and highly recommended for wine lovers!

The attention as you get in is amazing! The first dish came and it was amazing and great taste but as it went through the dishes where not interesting. The taste was not bad, but considering is a 8 course dinner and not cheap at all, I would expect to taste amazing and innovative flavours. It was a bit dissappointing as we had very high expectations. The desserts where amazing! Together with the attention, It compensates bit the rest of the menu. Would love to give it another opportunity and try the best of it as the other reviews mention.

We hebben een heerlijke avond gehad. Mooie en lekkere gerechten, bijpassend wijnarrangement was ook super. Vriendelijke bediening met kennis van de producten en klantvriendelijkheid. We vierden ons 5 jarig huwelijksjubileum en ook daar was aandacht voor. Wij komen zeker terug, echt een aanrader!

Mooi restaurant met leuk uit elkaar opgestelde tafels. Omdat Barres aangesloten is bij de Oosterscheldekreeft Kring, hebben we het kreeftenmenu gegeten. Heerlijke gerechten met als opmerking dat de hoeveelheid kreeft in de diverse gangen matig is, zeker in relatie tot de prijs (€ 125 voor 5 gangen). De wijnen uit het Wijnarrangement zijn verrassend en combineren goed met de gerechten. Zeer leuke en professionele bediening.

Ce fut un moment d’excellence. Nous avions choisi le menu homard (oosterschelde kreeft) afin de déguster ce délicieux crustacé zélandais. La déclinaison en 4 plats fut une très agréable découverte d’un homard décortiqué et présenté de façon fort subtile. Pour terminer nous avons apprécié un dessert extrêmement raffiné. Les présentations sont un plaisir pour les yeux et le service efficace aimable et souriant sans être ostentatoire. Bref ce fut parfait.

Had a very wonderful culinary experience at this restaurant last Friday. You are welcome from the moment you arrive until you walk out the door. Not just a guest, but the staff really knows how to make you feel welcome. The food is of sublime quality and perfectly balanced. In combination with the wine package, this is a true culinary spectacle.

Na ons bezoek aan het Zeeuws Museum en een terrasje zijn we neergestreken bij Barres voor het diner. Een leuk pand aan Plein 1940, een gezellig intiem plein met terrasjes. Mooi, rustig interieur waar je op je gemak kan tafelen. We namen een 7 gangen menu. Behalve het vegetarisch gerecht (te zuur, met wortel) waren alle gangen prima op smaak. Twee desserts bij een 7 gangen diner is ietwat te veel, wij zouden liever een hartige gang ertussen zien. Het bijpassend wijnarrangement was goed, behalve de wijn bij de vegetarische gang, deze ging niet helemaal goed samen. Allervriendelijkste zwarte brigade. We hebben zeker een mooie avond gehad, echter het prijs/kwaliteitsniveau is toch ietwat uit verhouding. Voor dit bedrag hebben wij op meerdere plaatsen voor €20 goedkoper even zo goed, zo niet lekkerder, gegeten. Toch voor herhaling vatbaar vanwege de algehele ervaring.

Yesterday evening I went out for dinner with my girlfriend at Barres restaurant. The food was delicious and the accompanying wines were perfectly matched to the dishes, an absolute must! The service was very friendly and could tell us a lot about the wines that were selected with the dishes. It was also very nice that both owners of the restaurant came to have a chat at the table. Definitely a restaurant we will return to.

An environment where they know how to pamper their guests.

Very competent staff (kitchen and service). However, during dinner we ordered drinks and bread a few times from a lady serving, but we did not receive them. This lady forgot our orders. Luckily we didn't see it on the bill. I had very high expectations about the gastronomy, as I had previously been to the split eagle (the chef's old company) and was blown away by how tasty and original it was. Unfortunately, the menu this time was not so spectacular. We had a 6 course menu. The wagyu was topped with veal gravy at the table, which was a real waste of meat in my experience. Gravy wasn't that good, the wagyu meat doesn't need any frills.

Great 4 to 8 course arrangement with glasses of matching wine if desired. In one word: great! Nice, expert service. The sommelier in particular knows how to tell a good story about each wine. As a driver you can also opt for half glasses.

Very good food and compared to other restaurants in the region reasonable in terms of price, simply worth it but probably not for every day :-) We had a 6 course menu with corresponding wines and a couple of extra wishes that were fulfilled with ease. Thanks for the perfect evening!

I can't be anything but super complimentary. Beautiful dishes and original good wines. Staff with a passion for their profession and who like to talk about it. A real pleasure to eat here and I will definitely return.

What a nice place this is. It's been on my list for a long time, but it never got around to it. Very fortunately now. A beautiful menu where we (of course) went for the 8 course version, because looking at the menu we didn't want to miss anything, it looked so good. Beautiful appetizers followed by 8 courses in just the right portions. Even after enjoying a delicious coffee, you leave the table feeling satisfied but not overfull, and that's how it should be. The wine list is very extensive with good and well-chosen wines. This evening I opted for a pairing non-alcohol arrangement and it was a really beautifully put together whole. Definitely recommended to include this. The service; extremely friendly, attentive and their enthusiasm certainly added to the evening. Conclusion: a fantastic thing that you should definitely not miss. EAT HERE IF YOU GET THE CHANCE! Middelburg can be happy with this business and we are already thinking about our next visit.

It was a great experience in which the food is well thought out. It is inventive, subtle, modern and the harmonisation of the taste not only between the ingredients in the plate but between the courses are just fantastic. The servers were really nice and communicate with you in your own language, which is touching and they do a great job at it. Overall quality price is unbeatable, would recommend.

Delicious food. Praise in advance with Dutch shrimps. You can recognize the chef's quality by the sauce. Beats. With all dishes. Then scallops with carrots. Sounds simple but again complicated flavors and delicious sauce. Our table companion had veal sweetbreads with eel. Difficult to find wine to match, but very successful with the Riesling. I had a delicious chardonnay with the scallops. We had to go all the way back to Amersfoort, otherwise we would have had dessert. Also nice ambiance with calm colors and good light. Stipulation was very knowledgeable. Also regarding the wines. Highly recommended.

It was great to be here again. Previously the split aren't now a different location but the enjoyment is as usual. Previously, we were often told that there was no room available, but because the new location has more seats, we were able to go the same day. Recommended. Nice staff.

In Barres you take a culinary journey. The dishes are fine and beautifully balanced and with the matching wines they really take you to higher regions. The service is unpretentious, the guidance of the sommelier is top notch. This restaurant is absolutely recommended!

Barres is a very good restaurant, 4,5,6 or 7 courses without a choice, but I wanted the langoustines and that was possible with our 6 course dinner (which was actually part of the 7 courses). Service is friendly and polite. The sommelier knew a lot about the matching wines and even convinced me to take a certain glass. I thought they paired very well. One of the best white wines ever tasted here, Kerner Lux. Water is always replenished, and so is delicious bread. Costly but worth it!

We recommend! Committed young people are at work here who value the guests in every way and pamper them with cleverly prepared and presented dishes. You have to support that! Very attentive service, many extras (especially the "treasure chest" with the espresso), friendly and courageous support, especially when commenting on the excellent dishes and the very appropriately selected wines. Big plus: Wine accompaniment is also available in half portions - highly recommended! We found it very nice that the waitress accompanied us to the taxi, as the restaurant is in the pedestrian zone. An all-round successful evening. We demand at least the first star!
