The best food I’ve eaten in ages! Very accommodating to my nut allergy! If you come to any restaurant in Amsterdam let it be this one!!!

We go for the rice table like most people do. We need to go down before going up to our table upstairs. All empty tables are placed with prawn crackers except ours so we asked for one. The two person tables are just too tight the chairs are literally back to back. The almond shaped dishes are served in two trays shortly after the drinks. Now the tea candles on the table make sense as 6 are placed to keep warm. However it is funny that some deep fried dishes are warmed either the sauce becoming too dense/ over flavoured or the deep fried batter becoming soggy. Perhaps the streamed and fried rice would be more suitable to keep warm? Every sauce is distinct and flavoursome but I found the green pepper with aubergine and the sauce on gabo gabo tasted really good. Some dishes, for example the banana, are sweet, and we are too full to have room for dessert.

A truly wonderful culinary experience! We loved the food; we went there specifically for the rijsttafel. Each dish is a journey! The staff are lovely, attentive, and offer great advice.

my partner and i were both recommended ricetable by separate friends on our trip to amsterdam, so we stopped by here on a thursday night and were able to get a seat without a reservation. incredibly delicious food, served promptly, with friendly service. we're big eaters, and the meal for 2 left us stuffed - we tried everything, but couldn't finish it all! fantastic range of flavors and spices. the satay and chicken pica pica really stood out.

Went for the rijstaffel with a group of 4 people. There were about 15 different delicious dishes on the table. It's a little out of the tourist district so it was mostly locals and seemed more authentic. Highly recommended.

We ordered a "rijsttafel" (meat-based)—a table full of bowls to enjoy at your leisure. The food was delicious. There's also a good wine list. It can get very busy, so definitely make a reservation.

We visited Restaurant Blauw in Amsterdam and were very satisfied overall. The rijsttafel (a traditional Indonesian squash platter) was particularly noteworthy; it was truly outstanding – authentic, diverse, and tasted exactly like it does in Indonesia. Every single component was lovingly prepared and perfectly balanced. The drinks were also delicious and complemented the food well. However, it's worth noting that – unlike in many other Dutch restaurants – water is not automatically served free of charge here, but is charged separately. The service was generally quick and efficient, although we would have appreciated a bit more warmth. A smile from the staff would have rounded off the otherwise positive impression. At just under €50 per person, the rijsttafel is on the pricier side, which is justified by the quality, but still noticeable. We had made a reservation in advance, which we highly recommend – getting a table without a reservation is virtually impossible, as the restaurant is very popular and relatively small, but exquisite. Overall, a fantastic culinary experience for anyone who loves authentic Indonesian cuisine and is willing to pay a bit more for it.

At Blaauw Amsterdam you get an enormous amount of different types of indonesian dishes prepared in harmony and very tasteful. Highly recommended if you are in Amsterdam.

We had read about the restaurant ahead of time and then when we got to amsterdam found that our hotel was also recommending it. Indonesian food is a must try in Amsterdam. We made reservations a few weeks in advance. We had the Menu Biru. which included street food appetizers, the full mixed rice table and dessert. It was well worth it. We finished every single item. Nothing was too spicy for us. The staff did a great job of explaining each item

A lovely restaurant serving Indonesian food which we were exposed to for the first time there. We had the authentic "rice table". A wide variety of dishes and definitely a good overview of the different flavors and dishes. The desserts are also good and the Indonesian coffee was a positive surprise for black coffee lovers

Excellent! The welcome and atmosphere were fantastic. They were very welcoming and took great care to advise us and present the menu. 👍🏼 We ordered the Rijstaffel for two people even though there were three of us, and it was more than enough (we don't have particularly small appetites). They are very generous with the portions, which surely justifies the price, which we still found rather high. €125 in total! P.S.: We highly recommend the durian and coconut dessert. 👍🏼

Really enjoyed the rice bowl at Blauw! The multiple mini boats of food, almost all of them with unique and different flavors were all very good! Thoroughly appreciated it. The restaurant was a bit cramped and really crowded when we visited. We were seated by the door and it was being opened and closed the entire time.

After 3½ weeks in Europe, we were so ready for some Asian food! We found this spot, which was an Amsterdam branch of a Bib Gourmand–awarded Indonesian place. The original was a bit too far from Amsterdam for us (we were traveling the next day), so we gave this one a shot. If you’ve been living on meat-and-potato-type dishes in Northern Europe, you’ll probably love the punch of flavor and spice that Southeast Asian food brings. For me though, since I cook Asian food at home all the time, the flavors were on the mild side and didn’t quite wow me like the reviews suggested. We ordered the authentic rice table menu with meat, fish, and veggie dishes — basically a dream for people like us who love to try a bit of everything but have smaller stomachs. Such a fun concept! The only downside was that some dishes seemed prepped too far ahead and not kept hot enough— a few warm dishes were cold, the rendang wasn’t as tender as it should be, and the spices were mild at best. Dessert was the low point, and the espresso martini was just… meh. On the bright side, service was efficient and friendly, and overall it did hit the spot after weeks of European food. Portions were on the smaller side — we’re not big eaters, but even we left feeling not quite full. At around $100 per person with drinks and one dessert, it felt a bit pricey for the quality and quantity, even by Amsterdam standards. Still, it scratched that Asian food itch and was a nice change of pace — just not one I’d rave about.

Advertised as a traditional Indonesian restaurant, their specialty is a “rice table” which is a sampling of various small plates. Unfortunately, having lived in Malaysia, we found the food to be very average at best and not remotely close to the style advertised. Beef Randang is supposed to be a rich brown coconut treat which this was not. Spices add heat but not flavor. Satay is nothing close to the deliciousness you get in Singapore or Indonesia. Fish dishes were bland and they way overdid the veggies to keep the cost down. Even though it’s not cheap Atmosphere is rushed and claustrophobic. They send you an email demanding you reconfirm even though they send you several reminders as if they’re Gordon Ramsay’s top restaurant. Then they ostracize you if god forbid you arrive late because you couldn’t get ample WiFi on the street you were on to reply. When we arrived we were rushed to our table and the unfriendly server wanted to know what we wanted before anyone could even read the long list of dishes included in the rice table. It was blazing hot inside despite it being 15 degrees on the night we were there and tables are so close together it reminded me of living in San Francisco where almost all restaurants are cramped and noisy. If you’ve never had Indonesian food, we recommend finding a place in Amsterdam that serves satay which is quite good in many locations but I’d avoid this place unless you really need to sample a touristed version of food that’s not as good as the real thing. Oddly, it’s recommended as one of the better traditional Indonesian restaurants. I guess you get ruined if you’ve actually been to Indonesia and know the difference

Absolutely phenomenal Indonesian food. Restaurant Blauw delivers an unforgettable dining experience from start to finish. We ordered the rijsttafel, and every single dish was bursting with flavour... from the rich, tender beef rendang to the spicy sambals and fragrant coconut vegetables. A beautiful Indonesian restaurant with a modern atmosphere, excellent service, and excellent food. This restaurant is definitely in the top 5 in the Netherlands. We ordered the authentic rijsttafel (rice table) with some extra satay ajam (satay ajam). Satay babi is not available. Parking is difficult and expensive.

Avoid at all costs, I got FOOD POISONING from eating here. My GF and I ate here for her birthday and the food was served lukewarm, that should have been our first red flag. I ate the goat satay but she didn’t and the next morning I was suffering from severe food poisoning. I tried reaching out to the restaurant several times to let them know and they don’t answer their phone and don’t respond to emails. Avoid eating here at all costs.

As others say, go for the rice dinner. We got veggie and 80% of the 15 or so items were fabulous. Docking a point, as it is quite expensive for the amount of food. We had two cocktails and a bottle of wine and it was around $200. Worth checking out if you've never had Indonesian food!

My son and I had an excellent evening at this restaurant. The food was of top quality, taste and temperature perfect, service very attend and the atmosphere enhanced the experience. When you are looking fir an authentic Indonesian food experience, look no further. Hope you enjoy yous visit as much as we did.

The strong point of this place isn't the ambiance, but the variety of Indonesian dishes, which are excellently prepared and presented using quality ingredients. We ordered the 15-course menu and were absolutely satisfied. The service was very attentive and competent, and always with a smile.

Several local guides suggested we try Indonesian food while here, especially the Rijsttafel - rice table (a bit like tapas for sharing). We went for the fish option, which came with a lovely mix of fish and shellfish dishes, plus two types of rice and some tasty veg sides. The standout flavours were the sambal spice and coconut – both of which we really enjoyed – making it a very pleasant meal overall. The restaurant itself is family-run, efficient, and welcoming. The only thing we’d have liked was the option to swap out some of the shellfish dishes, but otherwise it was a great experience.

Must have rijjstaffel on your visit to the Netherlands. The Biru will allow you to try everything but highlights: fried apps, curry egg, sausage, the chicken redang, the coconut vegetables

we called and ordered takeaway of 2 rijsttafels and they were able to prepare for us that evening (cheaper than thuisbezorgd!), and then we walked to Vondelpark and had a picnic. HIGHLY recommend - our favorite meal during our week in Amsterdam. They were able to make everything gluten free to accommodate for my allergy.

We tried one of the rice plates. It was utterly amazing. A wonderful variety of small dishes, which leave you full and arguing over which one was the best. Desserts were incredible, with amazing flavors!

Durch den Tipp eines holländischen Kollegen meiner Frau kamen wir zu dieser Adresse bei unserem Besuch in Amsterdam und konnten wirklich gute indonesische Küche geniessen, die uns schöne Momente an frühere Urlaube auf Bali und Lombok in Erinnerung rief. Die indonesische Reistafel bot einen durchaus repräsentativen Schnitt der Küche und war in jeder der 16 Schüsselchen gut bis sehr gut. Dazu ein indonesisches Bier und abschliessend ein indonesischer Kaffe und man fühlte sich fast wie im Urlaub auf der Südhalbkugel. Lediglich das Ambiente (eng und sehr voll) war nicht ganz so top, aber das war akzeptabel.

Afgelopen zaterdag 28 juni bij Blauw gegeten. Een hele goede smaalvolle keuken, genoten van de gerechten , echt Indish en heel verfijnd. Jammer dat er altijd mensen in een restaurant moeten zitten die denken dat het helemaal van hun is en heel luid hun gesprekken voeren waar je niet op zit te wachten. meestal ook over de meest nietszeggende onderwerpen waar je dan naar moet luisteren. Restaurant zou hier wel op mogen reageren.

Excellent experience dining here. We chose the pre-set Indonesian menu. It came with approx 12-14 dishes meant for 2, and it was the right amount of food for two. Eggplant and shrimp were the highlights for us! Excellent food overall combined with quick/friendly service. Definitely recommended.

Came here on the recommendation of our canal tour guide. She said that the rice table from this restaurant in particular is at the top of her "must-do" list for anyone visiting Amsterdam and we were not disappointed! Our server was very friendly and every dish was explained to us when it was brought out. Everything inside was very clean and the food was delicious! Everytime I have family or friends visiting I bring them to Blauw because it's according to me the best indonesian experience you can have on this city! The rice table is quite expensive but you can try a lot of different tastes and everything is super good! The service is also super friendly

I was here seven years ago – the food was already exceptional back then. This time, four of us came and opted for the rice table with meat. The food was excellent again, and the service was exceptionally friendly. We'll definitely be back! Reservations are definitely recommended.

Ziet er mooi uit, maar weinig smaak. Als je nooit Indisch eet is het een aardige introductie, maar anders niet de moeite. Bij goede toko's, zoals bijvoorbeeld Bogor Permai en Stick-up in Diemen, haal je lekkerder eten voor een derde van het geld.

Suivant les divers guides, nous avons voulu gouter au rijsttafel. La quantité de la nourriture est là, avec les nombreux ramequins servis. On en vient tout de même à bout sans défaire la ceinture. Le personnel est efficace, le service rapide. C'est bon mais les épices ne sont pas suffisamment mises en valeur et les plats manquent de goût pour ce qu'on peut attendre d'une cuisine indonésienne. . Cela convient à des occidentaux mais si on aime la cuisine méditerranéenne, orientale, indienne bref une cuisine qui s'éloigne de la saucisse purée on ressort déçu compte tenu du prix du repas.

Esta fue la primera vez que salí de un restaurante. Al entrar saludé al personal en holandés y dije que tenía una reserva para dos. La respuesta fue: "¿Nombre? 1 ? " No. "Buenas noches, lo siento, pero no hablo holandés, pero deduzco que tiene una reserva? ¿Podrías ser tan amable y decir con qué nombre? " Después de tocar el sistema de reservas, se encontró mi nombre y nos llevaron a nuestra mesa. Después de 5 minutos de espera, nadie se acercó a nuestra mesa para preguntar si queríamos beber algo o tenía una pregunta sobre el menú. 10 minutos después, nadie. Pasaron 15 minutos, todavía nadie. Las cuatro personas que vinieron después de nosotros, ya tenían bebidas en su mesa. Marido y yo decidimos que si pasaban 20 minutos sin que nadie reconociera nuestra presencia, nos iríamos. Finalmente, después de 18 minutos de espera, una camarera se acercó a nuestra mesa y dijo "¿está listo para pedir? " Cuando mi esposo dijo que estábamos a punto de irnos por habernos ignorado durante casi 20 minutos, ella dijo "pero estoy aquí ahora". Eso fue todo.

Best indonesian food I've ever had! Went on sunday night, the ambiance is warm and welcoming, service extremely friendly. No he vuelto a Amsterdam durante muchos años, pero recordé la comida indonesia holandesa allí y lo buena que era. Este restaurante lo llevó a otro nivel, era inmenso. Todos probamos el buffet o Rijsttafel con alrededor de 10 platos creo, satay genial, plato de berenjena inusual y excelente, ensalada picante, plato de huevo sutil y más. Brillante. El pastel de canela después de la cena era hermoso y todo se lavó con su propia ginebra única. La mejor comida del fin de semana con un personal encantador que nos cuida. Gracias.

Ordered the Vegan Rijsttafel and it was soo amazing. Every dish was wonderful. We especially loved the tempeh, mushrooms, jackroot and mixed vegetables in coconut milk.
