A little disappointing. Everything was tasty, and there was a lot of everything, but nothing wowed us. For that amount of money, I'd expect to be at least a little impressed. It was a fun experience and I'm glad we did it, but I wouldn't go here again. The service was fairly mediocre too.

Fine but the food was cold and not worth the price.

Food 4+, service 1. We ordered the set three course menu of riistafel almost immediately after sitting down. Our main course arrived 1:15 later despite an inquiry after an hour, everyone else sitting around us having arrived afterwards and already finished and departed. This is on an electronic ordering system and for a meal that the kitchen has pre-prepared! I could excuse one glitch but then we also sat another 30 minutes after finishing dinner waiting for dessert (and again having to flag down staff twice). When presenting us with the >€140 check for (including 3 drinks consumed while waiting eternally) there was an apology but not even an attempt at service recovery either during the meal or afterwards. The food was indeed good but our evening was not, especially at that price.

Excellent strong flavours, with dishes executed brilliantly! The staff are knowledgeable and passionate about the food they serve. I'd recommend the Biru Menu. For one person, it was a pretty substantial meal, and I went home very satisfied.

We made a point to return to Restaurant Blauw after enjoying it so much last year! Puspa served a beautiful Rijstafel for us. Puspa was lovey and we enjoyed our conversation with her! Her smile alone would cause us to come back again! The food was delicious and there was something for everyone to enjoy!!!!

Good Indonesian food but a bit pricy

Great date spot. Classy atmosphere without being over the top. Make a reservation if you can. Food was great, and plenty of choices. Order one of the meal sets if you want to share or are trying Indonesian food for the first time.

We had the chefs Rijstafel and it was amazing! Keep in mind that this is a traditionelle Dutch food and customized to the Dutch palette. We were able to try everything and especially the Aubergine and tempeh were amazing! The goat and chicken were loved by the others at the table. As four adults this was way too much food for us but we loved every bite and were not able to stop. Super great to experience. Desert was ok but I could’ve done without. Service and staff were amazing, super welcoming and attentive. Unfortunately I did not take any pictures but enjoyed the moment fully 🥰

Tasty food and lovely waitresses. It's just that the price is disproportionate. Way too expensive. I just looked back at the photo with a rijsttafel for 2 people, and that is 90 euros....

Delicious Indonesian dishes with many options for vegetarians/vegans.

It was a pleasant meal overall, but nothing to shout home about. The flavours were generally unmemorable, and the lamb in particular lacked any real depth or seasoning. The fish was quite nice and stood out as the better dish. Service could be improved. The waitress attending to us came across as slightly arrogant and spoke in a patronising manner

Excellent food. I stopped in to get my Indonesian food fix while I was in Amsterdam and walked out totally satisfied. I went on a Thursday and (fortunately) had a reservation; if not, I don’t think I would have gotten a table.

This is a good and bad post. First, the good-The food was phenomenal, we had the street food and rice table combination with a beautiful bottle of Gruner Veltliner, all reasonably priced. The street food was a little non descript but the rice table menu was just fantastic. The bad- after the street food was eaten we had to wait 30 minutes for the table rice to be delivered. That was fine, we were having a great conversation so no worries. We ate the food and also had the dessert that accompanied the rice table. The Spicy chocolate fudge had caught my attention and I was going to have that with a decaf coffee and was told we had reached our two hour limit and they wouldn't serve us any more. It was too bad that the delay in getting our main course ended this meal on a sour note. We kind of felt like we were punished for their mistakes. Again, the food is wonderful but be prepared to wait and you probably won't have time for a cup of coffee after dinner.

Food was incredible service too

We ordered “authentiek” 48 euro per person. The food is ok, but at this price, there is not enough meat and too much carbs such as rice, fried banana, fried eggplant, fried fish, fried mussels. Then the chicken is too salty. Beef and lamb are ok. If you come here, I recommend ordering beef lamb chicken satay skewer individually instead of “authentiek”

It felt like eating from a communal pot – rushed and hasty. At 48 euros per person, it was very poor value for money for six people. The food was okay, but still not worth it.

Incredible service, friendly, warm and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious! I can't say enough good about this place, especially getting us in after my booking snafu. Would happily recommend here for a wonderful evening meal.

We went for dinner. The food was delicious. We had the tasting menu and everything was tasty, although it was overpriced for what it was (we were full, but it was 60 euros for rice dishes and stews). The service could have been much better; the waiter was very rude and they were incredibly slow.

This restaurant was the lowlight of our vacation. Having made a reservation because another restaurant of the same name had a Michelin designation, I was very excited to try the rice table. Unfortunately: - the service was outright poor, to the point of rudeness from the moment we walked in. - the food was bland, cold, and meat was tough. - they refused to bring complimentary tap water while selling still water with no cap on it. -wine and cocktails were so bad we didn’t drink them. The baked banana was tasty. That’s the only good thing I can say about this place. If you are a tourist, you’re probably staying somewhere more central. Don’t go out of your way for this.

Wonderful first experience of Indonésien Cuisine. The Ribu menu was perfect to discover all the delicatessen of the Chef’s cuisine. I strongly recommend this place.

We had a wonderful experience on Valentine's Day! The food was delicious (meat rice table)—it was a great way to experience Indonesian cuisine! The service was friendly. The only downside was that the tables were a bit close together. Afterwards, we even got a rose to take home! I would definitely recommend it and come back again.

I was told that this is the best Indonesian restaurant in Amsterdam and it lived up to the expectations. The food was delicious and the staff very friendly. The only downside is the time slot. If you make a reservation between 6 pm and 8 pm, you only have two hours to finish your meal. That's a bit tight for a 3-course meal

Amazing Indonesian restaurant with authentic quality. We had a corporate dinner but I would come back with my family for sure . The choice on offer is sufficient for a person. Glad i found this place . Although i am from Den Haag but a re-visit is on the cards.

First off, definitely get the rijstafel. I don’t know why anyone would get anything else. You get to try a little bit of a lot of dishes. I don’t think they even have all of them on the Ala carte part of the menu. And yes you can get it as a single person, even though the menu says something about at least 2 people. I got the everything rijstafel but they also have meat, fish and vegan options. When it first arrived, I thought it’s not a lot of food, just a few bites of each dish. But a few bites across that many dishes ends up being a lot. A couple notes on flavor profile: the dishes are well balanced, and tailored to an international crowd so not very spicy. If you want it spicier you can ask I think When you ordered, i had it as they normally serve it. I’m a sucker for sweet savory balance and peanut sauce so some of my favorites were: codfish Manteca (new to me), cucumber salad is always great for balancing some of the heavier dishes, and the satays were very well cooked, perfectly tender and the sauce was delicious. I think you generally need a reservation. I went on a Wednesday evening and there Was one table open in the restaurant that I saw, don’t know if it was reserved or not. As noted on their reservation system, single diners are seated at high tops. The table itself was slightly annoying because there are so many dishes in the rijstafel and the table slid when I reached across to try and get the further ones. I ended up rearranging some onto the bar counter that was adjacent to the table. I don’t know why they didn’t place some there in the first place but no big deal. The reservation says you have the table for up to 2 hours. I had a very leisurely meal and was done in about an hour and 15, service was pretty quick. And go for a walk at vondelpark before dinner, to build up your appetite.

I walked in, and two employees looked at us without even greeting us, as if we weren't welcome. They work with time constraints there, and we had two hours. After standing at the door for 10 minutes, the employee who had already passed us four times came to tell us we could choose from two tables. Fifteen minutes later, she finally asked us what we wanted to drink; by then, we'd already lost 25 minutes of our reservation time. By that point, I was already hungry and didn't feel like going to the restaurant, and I was about to get up and leave. We left a lot of food there, and then she asked if I wanted to take it home... WELL, NO THANK YOU, I WANTED TO LEAVE AND NEVER COME BACK.

Ate Indonesian rice table very tasty

Delicious food, very attentive staff, and a lovely atmosphere. The braised beef main was particularly good. Would definitely recommend.

We go for the rice table like most people do. We need to go down before going up to our table upstairs. All empty tables are placed with prawn crackers except ours so we asked for one. The two person tables are just too tight the chairs are literally back to back. The almond shaped dishes are served in two trays shortly after the drinks. Now the tea candles on the table make sense as 6 are placed to keep warm. However it is funny that some deep fried dishes are warmed either the sauce becoming too dense/ over flavoured or the deep fried batter becoming soggy. Perhaps the streamed and fried rice would be more suitable to keep warm? Every sauce is distinct and flavoursome but I found the green pepper with aubergine and the sauce on gabo gabo tasted really good. Some dishes, for example the banana, are sweet, and we are too full to have room for dessert.

The best food I’ve eaten in ages! Very accommodating to my nut allergy! If you come to any restaurant in Amsterdam let it be this one!!!

my partner and i were both recommended ricetable by separate friends on our trip to amsterdam, so we stopped by here on a thursday night and were able to get a seat without a reservation. incredibly delicious food, served promptly, with friendly service. we're big eaters, and the meal for 2 left us stuffed - we tried everything, but couldn't finish it all! fantastic range of flavors and spices. the satay and chicken pica pica really stood out.

Went for the rijstaffel with a group of 4 people. There were about 15 different delicious dishes on the table. It's a little out of the tourist district so it was mostly locals and seemed more authentic. Highly recommended.

We visited Restaurant Blauw in Amsterdam and were very satisfied overall. The rijsttafel (a traditional Indonesian squash platter) was particularly noteworthy; it was truly outstanding – authentic, diverse, and tasted exactly like it does in Indonesia. Every single component was lovingly prepared and perfectly balanced. The drinks were also delicious and complemented the food well. However, it's worth noting that – unlike in many other Dutch restaurants – water is not automatically served free of charge here, but is charged separately. The service was generally quick and efficient, although we would have appreciated a bit more warmth. A smile from the staff would have rounded off the otherwise positive impression. At just under €50 per person, the rijsttafel is on the pricier side, which is justified by the quality, but still noticeable. We had made a reservation in advance, which we highly recommend – getting a table without a reservation is virtually impossible, as the restaurant is very popular and relatively small, but exquisite. Overall, a fantastic culinary experience for anyone who loves authentic Indonesian cuisine and is willing to pay a bit more for it.

At Blaauw Amsterdam you get an enormous amount of different types of indonesian dishes prepared in harmony and very tasteful. Highly recommended if you are in Amsterdam.

We had read about the restaurant ahead of time and then when we got to amsterdam found that our hotel was also recommending it. Indonesian food is a must try in Amsterdam. We made reservations a few weeks in advance. We had the Menu Biru. which included street food appetizers, the full mixed rice table and dessert. It was well worth it. We finished every single item. Nothing was too spicy for us. The staff did a great job of explaining each item

A lovely restaurant serving Indonesian food which we were exposed to for the first time there. We had the authentic "rice table". A wide variety of dishes and definitely a good overview of the different flavors and dishes. The desserts are also good and the Indonesian coffee was a positive surprise for black coffee lovers

Excellent! The welcome and atmosphere were fantastic. They were very welcoming and took great care to advise us and present the menu. 👍🏼 We ordered the Rijstaffel for two people even though there were three of us, and it was more than enough (we don't have particularly small appetites). They are very generous with the portions, which surely justifies the price, which we still found rather high. €125 in total! P.S.: We highly recommend the durian and coconut dessert. 👍🏼

Really enjoyed the rice bowl at Blauw! The multiple mini boats of food, almost all of them with unique and different flavors were all very good! Thoroughly appreciated it. The restaurant was a bit cramped and really crowded when we visited. We were seated by the door and it was being opened and closed the entire time.

After 3½ weeks in Europe, we were so ready for some Asian food! We found this spot, which was an Amsterdam branch of a Bib Gourmand–awarded Indonesian place. The original was a bit too far from Amsterdam for us (we were traveling the next day), so we gave this one a shot. If you’ve been living on meat-and-potato-type dishes in Northern Europe, you’ll probably love the punch of flavor and spice that Southeast Asian food brings. For me though, since I cook Asian food at home all the time, the flavors were on the mild side and didn’t quite wow me like the reviews suggested. We ordered the authentic rice table menu with meat, fish, and veggie dishes — basically a dream for people like us who love to try a bit of everything but have smaller stomachs. Such a fun concept! The only downside was that some dishes seemed prepped too far ahead and not kept hot enough— a few warm dishes were cold, the rendang wasn’t as tender as it should be, and the spices were mild at best. Dessert was the low point, and the espresso martini was just… meh. On the bright side, service was efficient and friendly, and overall it did hit the spot after weeks of European food. Portions were on the smaller side — we’re not big eaters, but even we left feeling not quite full. At around $100 per person with drinks and one dessert, it felt a bit pricey for the quality and quantity, even by Amsterdam standards. Still, it scratched that Asian food itch and was a nice change of pace — just not one I’d rave about.

Advertised as a traditional Indonesian restaurant, their specialty is a “rice table” which is a sampling of various small plates. Unfortunately, having lived in Malaysia, we found the food to be very average at best and not remotely close to the style advertised. Beef Randang is supposed to be a rich brown coconut treat which this was not. Spices add heat but not flavor. Satay is nothing close to the deliciousness you get in Singapore or Indonesia. Fish dishes were bland and they way overdid the veggies to keep the cost down. Even though it’s not cheap Atmosphere is rushed and claustrophobic. They send you an email demanding you reconfirm even though they send you several reminders as if they’re Gordon Ramsay’s top restaurant. Then they ostracize you if god forbid you arrive late because you couldn’t get ample WiFi on the street you were on to reply. When we arrived we were rushed to our table and the unfriendly server wanted to know what we wanted before anyone could even read the long list of dishes included in the rice table. It was blazing hot inside despite it being 15 degrees on the night we were there and tables are so close together it reminded me of living in San Francisco where almost all restaurants are cramped and noisy. If you’ve never had Indonesian food, we recommend finding a place in Amsterdam that serves satay which is quite good in many locations but I’d avoid this place unless you really need to sample a touristed version of food that’s not as good as the real thing. Oddly, it’s recommended as one of the better traditional Indonesian restaurants. I guess you get ruined if you’ve actually been to Indonesia and know the difference

Absolutely phenomenal Indonesian food. Restaurant Blauw delivers an unforgettable dining experience from start to finish. We ordered the rijsttafel, and every single dish was bursting with flavour... from the rich, tender beef rendang to the spicy sambals and fragrant coconut vegetables. Each small plate had its own personality, perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. The service was friendly and attentive without ever feeling rushed, and the staff were happy to explain every dish and its origins. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between modern and cozy, ideal for a relaxed evening or a special occasion. If you want to experience Indonesian cuisine at its best in Amsterdam, Blauw is a must. Come hungry, bring friends, and enjoy a culinary journey that hits every note.

A beautiful Indonesian restaurant with a modern atmosphere, excellent service, and excellent food. This restaurant is definitely in the top 5 in the Netherlands. We ordered the authentic rijsttafel (rice table) with some extra satay ajam (satay ajam). Satay babi is not available. Parking is difficult and expensive.

Avoid at all costs, I got FOOD POISONING from eating here. My GF and I ate here for her birthday and the food was served lukewarm, that should have been our first red flag. I ate the goat satay but she didn’t and the next morning I was suffering from severe food poisoning. I tried reaching out to the restaurant several times to let them know and they don’t answer their phone and don’t respond to emails. Avoid eating here at all costs.

As others say, go for the rice dinner. We got veggie and 80% of the 15 or so items were fabulous. Docking a point, as it is quite expensive for the amount of food. We had two cocktails and a bottle of wine and it was around $200. Worth checking out if you've never had Indonesian food!

My son and I had an excellent evening at this restaurant. The food was of top quality, taste and temperature perfect, service very attend and the atmosphere enhanced the experience. When you are looking fir an authentic Indonesian food experience, look no further. Hope you enjoy yous visit as much as we did.

The strong point of this place isn't the ambiance, but the variety of Indonesian dishes, which are excellently prepared and presented using quality ingredients. We ordered the 15-course menu and were absolutely satisfied. The service was very attentive and competent, and always with a smile.

Several local guides suggested we try Indonesian food while here, especially the Rijsttafel - rice table (a bit like tapas for sharing). We went for the fish option, which came with a lovely mix of fish and shellfish dishes, plus two types of rice and some tasty veg sides. The standout flavours were the sambal spice and coconut – both of which we really enjoyed – making it a very pleasant meal overall. The restaurant itself is family-run, efficient, and welcoming. The only thing we’d have liked was the option to swap out some of the shellfish dishes, but otherwise it was a great experience.

we called and ordered takeaway of 2 rijsttafels and they were able to prepare for us that evening (cheaper than thuisbezorgd!), and then we walked to Vondelpark and had a picnic. HIGHLY recommend - our favorite meal during our week in Amsterdam. They were able to make everything gluten free to accommodate for my allergy.

We tried one of the rice plates. It was utterly amazing. A wonderful variety of small dishes, which leave you full and arguing over which one was the best. Desserts were incredible, with amazing flavors!

Die indonesische Reistafel bot einen durchaus repräsentativen Schnitt der Küche und war in jeder der 16 Schüsselchen gut bis sehr gut. Dazu ein indonesisches Bier und abschliessend ein indonesischer Kaffe und man fühlte sich fast wie im Urlaub auf der Südhalbkugel. Lediglich das Ambiente (eng und sehr voll) war nicht ganz so top, aber das war akzeptabel.

Afgelopen zaterdag 28 juni bij Blauw gegeten. Een hele goede smaalvolle keuken, genoten van de gerechten , echt Indish en heel verfijnd. Jammer dat er altijd mensen in een restaurant moeten zitten die denken dat het helemaal van hun is en heel luid hun gesprekken voeren waar je niet op zit te wachten. meestal ook over de meest nietszeggende onderwerpen waar je dan naar moet luisteren. Restaurant zou hier wel op mogen reageren.
