Restaurant CancÚn Amsterdam in Oostelijk Havengebied

We were a large group (20+ people) and had dinner there today. The table was reserved, and after a few initial communication difficulties with our order, everything seemed fine. The restaurant's ambiance appeared very modern at first glance (long bar table, decorative pond plants, etc.), however, some of the chairs were quite dirty and covered in stains. In short, regarding our order: - The dishes (empanadas, tacos, cakes) were, in my opinion, overpriced compared to what you get (€14 for two tacos). - The server unfortunately forgot two dishes and brought slightly different versions of some of them. - It took 1.5 hours between ordering and actually receiving our food! ... - I only wanted an apple pie and a Corona (which also took 1.5 hours) and paid €15 for it (both €7.50), which I would classify as an "exploitative establishment." - Ultimately, we were refused the option of paying separately, as it was too much trouble, so one of us had to pay and we split the rest between ourselves. Overall, a disappointing visit; I've generally had many worse experiences with restaurants in Amsterdam. Apparently, the combination of bad food, fancy furniture, and exorbitant prices is part of Amsterdam's charm. I can only advise against it, unless you want to throw your money away. A sandwich at Albert Heijn only costs €4 and is much more filling than the overpriced mini-portions in that store.

Went here with a big group and first of all the (I think) manager was extremely rude and kept making weird remarks as well. I do wanna say 5/5 stars for our waiter tho, he was really kind and accommodating. They took our reservation knowing it was a big group, but seated us across 3 different areas. Different tables are fine, but had we known it would be complete different areas we would've chosen a different restaurant for the celebration. We kindly asked if we could connect some tables, and were instantly met with annoyance and saying it we wanted to do that we had to do it ourselves. Then the food... I'm caribbean myself and our party had a lot of latinx people so we know how these dishes should taste. The food was extremely bland and underseasoned which overall makes it overpriced. The food tasted like it had no soul in it, and for example the mac&cheese pasta had no seasoning at all, only cheese on top. The jerk chicken also tasted not seasoned. To sum it up it seems like they don't preseason their dishes but just slap some sauce or cheese on top and call it a day. The only thing I genuinely enjoyed were their cocktails, those were really tasty! I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to my friends.

“This restaurant was one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Not because the food was good, but because it managed to lower my expectations several times throughout the evening. The atmosphere was genuinely nice. In fact, it’s almost essential that it is, because you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy it while waiting for your food and drinks. Service here seems to follow a fascinating concept: your order is less of a request and more of a loose suggestion. When the food finally arrived, things became even more interesting. The fries had clearly dedicated themselves to a higher purpose than being fries. After what must have been several business days in the fryer, they had evolved into something much closer to potato chips. Thin, hard, and capable of producing a sound normally associated with stepping on autumn leaves. The chicken had apparently joined them on this journey. It was so thoroughly cooked that I briefly wondered whether it had originally been prepared as a building material. Moisture was nowhere to be found. If there had ever been any, it had long since left the country. The quesadilla was equally impressive. It somehow achieved the rare balance of being dry, overcooked, and forgettable all at once. Statistically, that should be difficult. I’ve had disappointing fries from McDonald’s before. We’ve all been there. But after eating here, I feel I owe McDonald’s an apology. Their fries may not always be perfect, but at least they remain recognizable as fries. Compared to this meal, McDonald’s feels like fine dining. To be fair, the bottled beer was cold and tasted exactly as the brewery intended. The restaurant deserves genuine credit for not finding a way to overcook that as well. In the end, I’m giving this place one star. Not because of the food, which seemed to be engaged in a personal battle against flavor and texture, but because the atmosphere was pleasant and the drinks were good. If you’re looking for a nice place to sit, have a beer, and contemplate the many ways potatoes can suffer, this is the place for you.”

Amazing! We ended up here by accident after a long day of work and were really pleasantly surprised! We had such a delicious meal. The food, service, and atmosphere were worth 5 stars to me. The place looks nice and hip, the dishes are beautifully presented, and the service was friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed all kinds of small bites. The tacos Chicken empanadas The Mexican sashimi was also delicious And the tostaditas were delicious!! Highly recommended For dessert, the churro with vanilla ice cream and blueberries (a fine dish but not a taste sensation) (I can't find exactly what meat was on the tacos or tostaditas, but the staff can surely tell from the photos) Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied. - update we went back later, the menu had changed then and unfortunately wasn't as tasty! -

The food was generally fine in terms of taste, but the oysters arrived at the same time as all the other dishes and were lying half in ice, half in water. The burger had too much (sour) sauce. The ceviche was delicious and the tacos were okay. Lack of atmosphere. The staff did their best, but it just wasn't quite there.

Decent food, nice ambiance. Terrible service! A group of us was there to watch the Champions League final. During the game, one of the guests was watching the game on a private stream, and yelling about the result (minute in advance). After talking to him, nothing changed. Regarding the restaurant - a bartender joined him! (yelling when PSG scored, a minute before it was shown on the projection screen). Ruined the experience... To top it off, the overall bill was 47,50€ higher than it should have been (we realised that too late, after having an internal discussion) - something was written off, something was not. Never again! (which is a shame, because the place felt promising...)

Great place!!!! Delicious food and a friendly man behind the bar… A bit pricey though, but that is compensated by the hospitality and the quality of the food.

Super super slow service. We were really hungry and frustrated. Took like 40 minutes to get the food order in and then it felt like forever to get the food- which came out not warm enough. The food itself was ok, looks fancy but the taste was not special.

Warm, relaxed atmosphere. Very nice staff with a sense of humor. The pulled oxtail sandwich is fantastic.

Had another wonderful evening yesterday at Restaurant Cancun! 🌴💃 Not only can you eat well here, but it is also a great place to dance. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, the music is great and really invites you to hit the dance floor. The owner is incredibly nice and makes sure everyone feels welcome. The food is really good too. So, a perfect place for a night out: delicious food, good music, and dancing in a fun atmosphere. Definitely recommended! 🎶✨

My son (15 years old) and I unfortunately had a bad experience. My son treated me to dinner at this restaurant for my birthday. We each ordered a 250-gram Ribeye for €28.50. The meat arrived after just five minutes. At first glance, it didn't look like a Ribeye. It was flat and seemed less than 250 grams. After asking for cutlery, the meat turned out to be lukewarm. It was cooked well-done instead of medium. Furthermore, the meat didn't taste like it had been grilled. There was hardly any flavor. We eventually finished it, but neither of us were satisfied. We eventually reported it, and they said they would report it to the kitchen. They offered to pay for half of the meat dish. The music kept glitching the entire time we were there. My son was disappointed that his birthday present had gone so wrong. We won't be returning.

Truly great service and a lovely warm ambiance. They also have salsa lessons available, really gives it a Latin American feel. Will be back - loved the vibe and the tacos were really good.

A beautiful and authentic restaurant with fantastic food. Salsa dance classes running in the side room really added to the atmosphere.

Wanted to try it for the second time. We arrived on a Sunday at 12:15; they were supposed to open at 12:00, but we were told they weren't open yet and we had to wait another 15 minutes. We didn't bother and ate somewhere else.

If you're looking for Mexican food, this isn't the place. Besides not having some menu items available, the service was incredibly slow. The portions were tiny for the ridiculously low prices, and the drinks were awful. If you're going to market this as a Mexican restaurant, at least make sure you have the right ingredients to prepare the dishes.

Ate in Cancun for the second time and ordered Dorado and fries on October 3rd. Both times, the Dorado was watery and the fries poorly cooked. Given previous experience, I specifically requested the Dorado be cooked thoroughly, but to no avail. The rice was hard. The chicken was supposed to cook for four hours but was red inside.

Came in with too high expectations. There was no music since it was dancing class at the same time. Decent food, starters and coctails were good. Very good service.

This was such a great place. We had transportation issues and came into Cancun and Ron the bartender was simply amazing and so very helpful. He got us great drinks and a taxi to get us to our hotel. The food is also very good. Thank you Ron! From the crazy American Ladies!

It was delicious, the smoked salmon was great, with a sweet sauce that I loved, and the location outside was very cozy. I thought it would be expensive, but it wasn't.

Cancún is one of those rare spots that delivers every time. The service is always excellent: friendly, attentive, and welcoming. By day, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee in a relaxed atmosphere. By night, it transforms into a vibrant dinner destination with consistently delicious food. Don’t miss their margaritas, they’re some of the best around. On top of that, the curated music events really set the vibe, making it more than just a restaurant but a true community spot.

Awesome place. We just got some tacos and fries to share for lunch with some cocktails. Food was delicious and our cocktails were great. Superb staff, very friendly. Great atmosphere, will have to come in the evening as it looked like it would be wicked vibes here at night.

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. The menu is extensive, but not too overwhelming. Great music, and after dinner, you can enjoy a cozy evening at the social club. The food was delicious, and I recommend everyone get the burger with padron peppers as a side if you want a truly delicious meal! Or, if you're in the mood for a tasty dessert, I recommend the fresh churros with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

We were really disappointed with our experience at Cancun this weekend. We ordered cocktails, 2 appetisers, 2 mains and one side for a table of 2. The staff were very slow and it took half hour to get our drinks. Throughout the evening they often forgot what drinks we ordered. The restaurant wasn’t even half full. Further, the kitchen mixed up one starter twice. We were finally served our dinner about 2 hours later at which time they said there was an issue with the main steak so they brought out a ‘starter steak’ before the main one. I wish I could say the long wait was worth it, but the final steak was almost inedible that we left most of it. The food is lacking taste, especially for prices we’d expect more in the centre of the city. I hope the kitchen and training of staff improves because this place could be very nice.

Food was good flavor, but expensive. Drinks were pricey and tiny. Not great service and didn’t feel the value. We spent 44 euros for small beer and a small margarita and 2 tacos and 2 empanadas. Menu was a bit strange for a Mexican restaurant. No salsa and chips, no guacamole. Regret choosing this option.

Absolutely lovely and authentic restaurant, with a really nice and kind staff. And the food... Absolutely delicious. I really miss this kind of a heart-made food from the restaurants. Thank you, we will be back next year!

Father's Day ended with a bad joke. I made a reservation to have a nice family day and called to confirm the menu at 3 p.m. Their response was that it was the same menu as dinner. Total lie! The place was completely empty, and the only response was, "I don't know what happened, but we only have this menu", fried eggs, and something else. Shame. Totally disappointed .

Great location, amsterdam, but not too busy. Nice owner and the service is very nice. The food is tasty and good proportions. Had lunch and then decided to have dinner!

Delicious Caribbean and Mexican food. There are also vegetarian options. This restaurant is more than a restaurant. They organize various activities, such as karaoke, dance evenings and dance workshops. Every first of the month on Monday the margaritas are for 5 euros and 3 tacos for 10 euros. The price is quite normal for what you get. Also nice view by the water and a fairly quiet place in Amsterdam.

Portions were a bit smaller, the taste of food was so delicious, music and aura was great 👍🏻🥰

Very cozy place and certainly beautiful, but the food was very disappointing. I ordered the sushi roll and it was filled with almost nothing, just rice and I couldn't see or taste the coconut shrimp in anything. Raised it with the staff, but did nothing about it. The quesadillas were also a disappointment cheese was not melted and very stingy with meat. The jerk chicken was tasty, but for €27 and 3 legs without a side dish is an exaggeration. Cocktails were tasty. The music was also loud and sung out of tune

Excellent food and service for a fair price. The music was great, not too crowded for a Saturday. I recommend getting the red sangria, it's delicious and cheap 😋

Had a lovely time on the terrace With live jazz music Cocktails were great, especially the strawberry and passionfruit caparinhia. Oysters were tasty, but unfortunately not worth euros each as indicated on Facebook. We also had the beef empanada. That was also very tasty! A very nice audience comes, who chat with each other, from young to old. Tip to the staff, don't be so quick to take away the glasses that are not yet empty.

I ordered shrimp , they put 4 pcs shrimp in it, portions were too small.

I went un a Sunday for a bachata event. It was really fun and the staff was kind. Haven’t tried the foos though.

Not Quite the Fiesta We Hoped For We were excited to try this place, expecting some great Mexican flavors, but it ended up being more of a letdown than a let’s-go-back. The menu had plenty of options, but nothing really stood out—so much so that we somehow ended up ordering three burgers instead of anything remotely Mexican. That probably says a lot. The food itself wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t memorable either. Portions were on the smaller side, especially for the price, and while the flavors were fine, they didn’t exactly transport us anywhere special. It was more “generic restaurant” than “authentic Mexican.” I was shocked and gagged when we ordered a side salad for 5 euros and it was served in a small cup ore egg holder. The steak was good (a standout performance amongst the rest). Another big miss of the night was the service on drinks. We waited so long for them that we started to wonder if they were squeezing the limes by hand in the back. When they finally arrived, they were decent but not really worth the wait. Overall, it wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either. If you’re looking for a truly good Mexican spot, this probably isn’t it. But if you just need a meal and aren’t too picky about authenticity, and have money to throw into a fire pit, it’ll do the job.

Really pretty restaurant not too far from the center. They offer a variety of Mexican/Latin American and Caribbean dishes. The tacos and steaks were reaaaally good. They also have different offers on different days, like taco tuesday, or the oyster deal on saturdays. The vibe is immaculate, they offer dance lessons in and adjacent space in the restaurant, I think that's super cute.

I was waiting for this top restaurant forever, I don't have to go to Mexico because the food is over the top, the staff is friendly, polite and attentive. The atmosphere is great, it makes you not want to go home! The dance lessons, music everything is worth 10000 stars! Keep it on!

In general, a pleasant impression of the institution, it was unexpected and pleasant to see a dance training group, which added a special atmosphere. My cocktail was delicious. From the minuses, as for me, the prices are a little too high. For example, beer 0.25 - 6.5 euros! Too! But I no longer liked the loud music that interfered with talking. Also, the small tables are very close to each other, you can almost physically feel your neighbors. But there are also special offers here, as evidenced by the poster at the exit))

One of the worst experiences I had in my life, another Mexican restaurant in Amsterdam Noord that we always dine at was fully booked so we decided to give this one a try. The food was definitely NOT authentic, we ordered our main meals which were pork belly and grilled fish at 8 p.m., and the food arrived at 10 p.m., the other side dishes were bite-size and hotel-style, nothing related to Mexican food, We ended up paying over 250 Euros and they did not even offer any kind of compensation or sentiment.

Loved this place when they open, sadly they are trying to be too trendy and not local anymore. Gone are the reasonably priced snacks and food, their menu is now extremely overpriced and no longer a locals place. Nothing wrong to have high end meals but keep the snacks and have options that fit a budget to past by for a drink and bite several times a week....now for that price of a meal I might pass by once every other month. Before we were there every other day for a beer and a snack. Sadly they decided wayyyy too fast that they are popular and cool now and prices went up to a level that outpaced any chance of passing by here on the regular. This was a mistake and as you can see less and less locals go. Good luck cancun, what's the point passing by for the classes or events if you have nothing affordable on the menu different from the other bars around? That's how the bar before you eventually shutdown....

Paid 16€ for a gin tonic. I had to ask the waiter to redo it cause the first time it was made with a slice of orange and super cheap tonic. Waiters pushing to leave. Not recommended

The worst service I've ever had in a restaurant. We arrived at 8 p.m. and it took 45 minutes before we even received a card. That was a simple custom card for Valentine's Day. After 1 hour and 15 minutes the drinks had not even been consumed. I had to angrily walk to the bar to get a bottle of wine. Only after 1.5 hours did we take our order for dinner. And a total of 2 hours waiting for the starter. By the time we were eating, the restaurant was empty again. The thing is that you can't just walk to another restaurant on Valentine's Day, otherwise we would definitely have left earlier. Incomprehensible since there were enough staff to at least take the order, serve the drinks and put out a sandwich (and yes, I know, because I have also worked in restaurants). A restaurant experience that I hope to never have again.

What a disappointment! As a Mexican Dutch family, we were looking forward to our dinner on Valentine's Day. We arrived at 7:55 PM and had to wait a while for our table, which was reserved for 8:00 PM. No problem. Soon a friendly lady explained to us that only a limited Valentine's menu was available today. Three courses €50. Choice of 4 starters, 4 main courses and 3 desserts. The choice was not difficult and a few minutes later the order was taken. Top. Then it started. It took almost an hour (!) before tasteless oysters were served as an appetizer. It also took over an hour (!!) before our first drinks were served, after my husband had walked to the bar three times. Two beers, two glasses of wine and a bottle of water. How difficult can that be? There were at least 3 people behind the bar. A little later the starters followed in two parts. The food was okay, the soup was lukewarm. There was nothing Mexican or Caribbean about it. After waiting another 45 minutes for our main courses, we lost courage and left. If there is anything typical about Mexican and Caribbean culture, it is hospitality, service, and friendliness. This team had no chance. There were 52 people in the restaurant when we were there. Everyone in our corner sat backwards in their seats to see where the food was. A number of people around us were not served any food at all in those two hours. We just had an appetizer There was a nice singer around and plenty of staff, but the operation was messy and the kitchen clearly had problems. Please note: they knew how many people would come (reservation with deposit), there was a choice of a maximum of 11 dishes on the menu and there were 52 people. In the end we didn't have to pay anything for the inconvenience. That's to their credit, but we certainly won't be back.

At least you don't have to come for the food! A deep deep disappointment. Jerk chicken is old chicken with soy sauce on it and ribeye was also not good, and salad or fries are separate. Haven't been so disappointed in years!

Food was OK-ish, service very good, but a total turnoff was the inaccessibility of the disabled toilet (see photo). It's NOT storage space, people!!! Handicapped people, like healthy people, count on being able to pee on their night out.

This is a really strange place. Salsa lessons are given while eating, so the music is always quiet. That does something to the atmosphere. The main course was tasty, but the proportions were far too small. The starters were partly cold and warm (as if it had been heated in the microwave). The dessert came from the freezer, with a sauce (cranberry with a pineapple dessert?) that was not on the menu... Price-quality ratio is just not right. And then there are also grubby drunk types in the restaurant whistling after you. Nothing is said about this by the staff. Not okay.

Dia de los muertos, whole restaurant spooky, very nice, and good tastefully dishes.

Waiter was sassy for no reason and most food was lacking some ingredients (for instance no chorizo in the shrimp and chorizo tacos, no passion fruit in a passion fruit cocktail?? Burrito was mostly rice). Atmosphere is good because of the tango classes.

Food was excellent! Everything was extremely tasty. We had Dorado Sashimi, Ceviche, Tacos and Quesadillas. Margaritas and Caipirinha are also very good and alcohol was not spared. The dance classes conducted at the back might bother someone, but there is also a nice happy atmosphere. Our ordered food was forgotten for 50 minutes, but then everything happened very quickly. Recommended.

We came for a drink after 10 p.m. (Saturday evening), atmosphere was very good, nice tent, just a pity that you can't order a late night snack, that makes it a bit more pleasant to stay longer. Unfortunately the dance floor was empty, maybe it still takes time for people to discover this. The DJs are playing well, it will be more fun when people start dancing. Please come with a late night snack that will complete it with such a tasty drink! We will definitely come for dinner sometime!

I liked the ceviche and the mezcal. Everything else was ok. The service was slow and a bit chaotic. The music went in and off, I think it was because of the dancing lessons taking place at the back; it affected the atmosphere, which was at times fancy, at times boring. They have Corona on the tap, but the cocktails are on the sweet side, hiding the citric.

I thought the food and cocktails were very mediocre. The drinks were too sweet for my taste, the tacos seemed like a variant for gringos. The staff clearly did their best, but the service could be much better. We had to wait a long time, dishes did not arrive at the same time, a piece of plastic in a dish.... The music was often loud, but could suddenly be turned off. Crazy contrast. I liked the design of the place.

Nice place , but I missed the late reviews, food is dangerous, the sashimi with bones and the steak is dry and taste like coal. They give me discount so they tried to fix it but honestly it is not the solution.

Mexican & Caribbean restaurant but lets throw in Argentinian empanadas and Spanish pimientos de padron as well, its all the same anyway. The food is alright, but it lacks authenticity and typical flavors and scents of the Mexican cuisine. Also...why only flour tortilla's!? Where are the salsa's? (oh wait, they had tabasco...). Cute thing is that there is a dance floor and people were having dance lessons. Downside was that music was on and off and in the end pretty loud. Staff friendly but not that attentive.

The restaurant itself is nice, terrace too. However, the service was quite possibly the worst I have ever come across. The staff is nice but completely unaware of what’s going on. Sunday evening, 3 tables for dinner (others just for drinks), good but extremely loud music - to the point where I have to basically shout across the 2 person table. We ordered 2 cocktails and they took so long to come, a waitress came over with menus thinking we hadn’t ordered yet. Food is either stunning or terrible. Octopus appetizer was the size of a middle finger and overcooked to high hell. Dorado ceviche and bavette tacos great but completely under-seasoned. After trying to signal to 3 members of staff, I had to walk up to the bar and break up a full-on conversation between colleagues to have salt and pepper. We ordered mains with everything else from the very beginning, it took about 50 mins for 2 steaks and fries to come after having waited about 30 for starters (again, not many tables for dinner and we were the first to order but last to get our food), I genuinely believe that if we hadn’t asked the waiter for an update it would have taken longer (he was apologetic but I had to go back up to the bar to ask him for an update on the update). We ordered empanadas in the meantime because we were starving. Meat was great, fries were completely undercooked to the point where we just gave up and didn’t even want a re-fire. Empanadas came later somehow, and we had them for “dessert” basically. Apart from this, all members of staff are continuously talking amongst themselves. With the not so rare sighting of bartenders literally scrolling on their phones for minutes at a time in plain view. Funny enough, asking for the bill, receiving it and paying only took about 1 minute. I’ve never regretted spending 157€ more than I have tonight. Great concept and ok good but I really thought we’d enjoy this place, quite disappointed.

Delicious cocktails! As a connaisseur I know my cocktails and these were top notch! Service is really friendly and good. Food comes rather quick for an evening of dining with friends, take a little time before ordering dinner

Waited 30 minutes for our drinks, even the food arrived faster. This turned out to be a disappointment as what we were served was refrigerator cold. After indicating it, we received it back warmed up. I kindly asked if anything could be done about the bill given these setbacks, after which I was almost attacked by the employee that we were ungrateful for their solution... Too crazy for words, would not recommend this to anyone

Nice neighbourhood Mexican restaurant with good music and vibe. On the night we visited the customers outran the staff and led to cocktails arriving after the main courses. But, the food was good and margaritas nicely salted.

surprisingly authentic! and their jamexican fusion options are delicious. they have a dj almost every night too it’s delightful

Atmosphere was very cool :)) Sunday is Cuban Night. Wasn't that busy. There was enough space. I really liked the music! The floor for dancing is great. A few vegan options for food are there. Prices a little more expensive.

Lovely place but food was disappointing. Cauliflower tostadas dry with no seasoning or sauce. Octopus over cooked and rubbery, can’t be cut, when I complained I was told octopus is always dry. Here I am leaving my thoughts on poor customer service.
