We went with the Kruidvat high tea voucher and enjoyed a delicious meal for two. It was one of the last beautiful sunny days of this summer, but it was lovely sitting outside on the terrace by the Linge. A well-stocked high tea with soup and bread to start, salmon rolls and a sweet treat, and for dessert a warm apple crumble and crème brûlée. We definitely filled our tummies! A warm welcome, friendly service, and a nice atmosphere 😊

At five-thirty, there was still a nice spot on the terrace by the water. Satémber is a fun promotion. I had completely forgotten that we were getting bear socks, so that was a nice surprise 🐻! A point for improvement: ask during dinner if everything is as expected. And also if the guests would like another drink (instead of at the end).

We had dinner with our daughter and her baby doll Emma, ​​who had turned 2. Emma got a little birthday firework and we sang!! For a doll !! How incredibly fun 😻🙌🥳

Lovely spot there by the water, always friendly staff. One thing: the dessert tasting was very meager compared to the photo on the menu. For example, the apple crunch is pictured with a scoop of ice cream and a kletskop cookie, and all three small bowls contain a chocolate. All of that was missing from the dessert served; the kletskops were missing everywhere and the portions were also significantly smaller. I mentioned the above to the waitress, but she said that the kitchen prepared this dessert according to their instructions. I understand, but it is not pleasant when the picture is more generous and elaborate than what is served.

The atmosphere stars go to the terrace! The interior is a bit outdated! I understood that it will be renovated soon!

Serving was done by a new staff member; he needs better instruction on what to serve. The vegetarian received meat because the waiter didn't know what was on the plate—salad that was pasta!

Went out for dinner with the family. It wasn't super busy, but everything took a long time. There was little variety in the dishes. The pork tenderloin was tough. Many a cafeteria could serve a plate of food like that. You expect a bit more from a restaurant. Almost an hour passed between the starter and the main course. Looking forward to dessert, I was served a dried-out Apple Crumble. That made the whole experience a total failure. The location was nice, but you can find better food in Leerdam for less money.

We were late because our program ran over, but this was no problem at all. We sat wonderfully on the lounge set on the terrace with a drink and a snack. FANTASTIC!

July 31: The sharing menu for 2 people is highly recommended. The service was attentive, gave plenty of space between courses, and kept a close eye on whether there were empty glasses. Had a lovely evening! Table 211 has a nice view of the river. Ate at De Beren again yesterday, August 2nd. This time à la carte. Certainly not a bad choice! The schnitzel was plate-sized and well-cooked until dry. The entrecote was perfectly rare! The only downside: you had to search for the vegetables, hence 4 stars: Two florets of broccoli and two florets of cauliflower was rather meager. Service perfect! A very enthusiastic young lady who brought a cheerful atmosphere to the tables. People in the Randstad could learn a thing or two from her. Thanks for the lovely evenings from Table 211 (Amsterdam)

Always a nice spot, friendly staff, and a beautiful view. The food was very tasty. Still, not 5 stars. Ordered two salads that differed greatly in volume. One plate was generously filled with lettuce, while the other plate contained less than a third of what was on the first. After the salad with a very small bread roll, my guest was not really satisfied. It was a super small portion, but the taste was good. I mentioned this to the waitress, and she said she would report it to the kitchen. I also mentioned it when paying, but nothing was done about it; she just said: "Yes, they can sometimes differ." That means the price/quantity ratio was not okay. It's a shame, because I had spoken highly of De Beren Leerdam to my guests.

We were able to sit outside pleasantly, and the service was very friendly and welcoming. We had reserved a high tea. It was well taken care of. The only downside, in our opinion, was that too few savory items were offered. There were plenty of small sweet treats; perhaps even too many. A shame. We couldn't finish it all. We took it home with us. Tip: more savory items, presentation on a tiered stand.

The service was super again; despite the busyness, they handled it very well. Everything was to our liking again, the food was tasty, and the cocktails were top-notch. Ordered ice cream, took quite a long time before we got it, +/- 25 min. Not fun, but it turned out fine.

Some restaurants manage to leave a bad impression without ever serving a dish. Unfortunately, De Beren Leerdam belongs to that category. I called in advance to inquire whether the High Tea could also be made suitable for vegetarians. According to the employee, that was no problem at all. Based on that assurance, we made an online reservation for a High Tea for four people and explicitly mentioned that two guests were vegetarian. Less than a day later, we received an email stating that this was impossible after all: either the entire table vegetarian, or no one. That was remarkable in itself, but what followed was downright shocking. To offer a practical solution, I suggested splitting the reservation administratively into two reservations of two people, with tables next to each other. That way, everyone would receive exactly what they had ordered. That, too, was resolutely rejected, not because it would be logistically impossible, but because doing so would mean "fulfilling our wish after all." The absolute low point was the employee's literal response: "Just go to De Beren in Houten, they are a lot more customer-friendly." A remarkable recommendation, which we took to heart. And indeed: De Beren Houten turned out to be willing to cooperate and offered the desired vegetarian option without any problem. As a result, we never went to eat in Leerdam. Nevertheless, this experience says everything about the way customers are treated here. Customer focus seems to have given way to rigidity, inflexibility, and a complete lack of solution-oriented thinking. It is all the more striking when you read the other reviews: a rigid and unfriendly approach is a recurring theme there as well. De Beren is a franchise that demonstrates elsewhere that hospitality and flexibility go hand in hand. That is precisely why it is disappointing that the Leerdam branch does so little justice to the chain's name. PS Parking is free right outside the door at De Beren in Houten; in Leerdam it is not.
