D'Olifant in Heerhugowaard is a restaurant with a unique concept, but the execution leaves much to be desired in some areas. The decor is nice, although here and there it could have been finished a bit more neatly. What immediately stood out was the friendly and professional staff. The service was good, but even though it was not very busy, we had to wait quite a while for the first dish after the bread and soup. The restaurant tries to be both a culinary restaurant and an all-you-can-eat concept, similar to La Cubanita. However, this creates a confusing balance: the presentation and appearance are culinary, while the concept revolves around small snacks that you order per round. This sometimes makes it feel as if the restaurant is stuck between two styles. The taste of the food was fine, but a noticeable amount of pepper was used in almost every dish, making everything quite spicy. In addition, there was a lot of extra decoration on the plates, which sometimes overshadowed the base of the dish. For example, meat dishes were served with a large amount of mini vegetables, which I ultimately left out for the most part. With the steak I really had to look for the thinly sliced ​​pieces of meat that were hidden under a mountain of trimmings. The ordering process was another area for improvement. While many similar concepts work with a QR code, D'Olifant still uses an old-fashioned system where you check off a paper list and place it in a holder. This system did not always work flawlessly; Several times the holder was forgotten to put back, so we had to point it out to the service ourselves. A digital system would not only be more efficient for the kitchen, but also more environmentally friendly. All in all, the experience at D'Olifant was excellent, but there are clear areas for improvement. The service and atmosphere are good, the food is tasty, but the balance between concept and execution has not yet been completely found. Final grade: 6.8/10

When the elephant started with the small dishes it was a beautiful menu. We now think it is no longer worth the price. Did 5 rounds and started the fryer at home. We're not going anymore.

Very disappointed! Today on Boxing Day we had a nice meal here with family, everything was nice and nice, lots of reviews and many of them good, the photos all look perfect. Of course we went there with a happy and cozy Christmas atmosphere, but once there the service was really terrible from moment 1. Then the food is brought and I get the 3 smallest pieces of meat in the world and it doesn't taste like anything!!!! The rest also all tasted like cardboard, I might as well have eaten a microwave meal at home, that would be even better!!! Poor quality food, waste of money Visit date: November 21, 2024 I recently ate here, and I have to say, the food was downright bad. The dishes were tasteless and did not seem fresh at all. My pasta tasted like it came straight from a supermarket package, with a watery, bland sauce without any depth or flavor. My table companion had ordered a waffle, but it was anything but fresh or tasty. The waffle was dry, tasteless, and more like a cardboard version of what it was supposed to be. Apparently they don't know how to prepare even a simple waffle properly here. To top it all off, the prices were way too high for what you get. For this quality, I wouldn't even want to eat it at home, let alone pay for it in a restaurant. This was the first and last time I come here.

I tried to contact this restaurant in advance via email, never received a response. Then just make a reservation via the online system, which works fine, but we are still curious about what we will find at a restaurant that does not respond to emails. The restaurant looks cozy, we thought it was quite dark and we saw people around us reading the menu with their flashlights throughout the evening. I took the flashlight a few times to see exactly what was on my plate. The service was plentiful, very friendly and came to the table sufficiently. However, we started to notice that as the evening progressed the kitchen started to get busier and we had to wait longer and longer for the dishes. You can only order 1 dish each round and because it took a little longer each time, we still enjoyed something, especially my husband (we were in the restaurant for 3.5 hours, which should be enough, you would think) . The dishes were tasty but not very special in taste and quality. All in all we had a nice meal. If we were from the area we might have gone back again, but for an hour's drive we didn't think it was special enough.

Dined with 2 adults, 1 child, 1 teenager. Atmosphere was nice, service was initially very sweet and helpful. Later in the evening the other service was very indifferent. Music was way too loud, difficult to hear each other. Why is that necessary? Flexmenu is a very good invention! We don't eat much, and this worked well. For us, 3 rounds were enough and we found the portions to be generous. The food was unimaginative. Pork tenderloin medallion was bone dry and tasteless, vegetable garnish was a combination of boiled to death and barely cooked and terribly salty. Carpaccio thickly cut and very salty. The steak (with sooooooooty thyme sauce) was a crime against humanity. Well done and tiny. Desserts were good. Cheesecake was tasty, ruby ​​chocolate was ice cream on a stick (daughter liked it), and mascarpone cake was mascarpone cream on a pastry rondo, unsweetened cream, very tasty. All in all, the adults gave it a very poor 7 and the children gave it a 6. Maybe the cook was not having his/her day. Too bad, we wanted to make this our go-to restaurant because of the price and proximity. But we're going to look elsewhere.

Between the starters and main courses we ordered, it took about half an hour each time (Your dish will be ready in about 3 minutes, small portions, which makes sense for an all you can eat concept) (€32.70 for 5 dishes versus 39.25 all you can eat) The desserts came quickly, but that requires taking them out of the refrigerator and serving them. Food was very mediocre, pork tenderloin was thoroughly overcooked which made it tough, the rosti was refrigerator cold, steak well done which made it tough, fries tasted more like potatoes than fries (asking for more well done they don't do much) Unfortunately we went home disappointed. Cozy old building on the edge of the Stadshart Heerhugowaard shopping center. We were here for dinner with our newly married niece and her husband. Comfortably located for public transport. Bus stops in front of the door! Small snacks can be ordered per round. For each his own. 😉 The wedding cakes were made by Michelle. Very tasty, unfortunately not for sale at d'Olifant.

Present at 6:30 PM and our first dish at 7:45 PM. Which meant very little. Most dishes quite little. After 5 dishes for 31 euros, I went home hungry. Have been here before, but it's not what it used to be. You can eat all you want, but then you have to sit for 4.5 hours.

Afgedwongen concept om als tafel allemaal evenveel te moeten eten. Wat klantonvriendelijk. Eten van slechte kwaliteit, gewone Curry uit een fles op een gerecht, twee minuscule stukjes pulled pork in een gerecht pulled pork met tortilla, vis met zenen en harde stukjes, we kwamen hier graag, maar dit was helaas de laatste keer. Erg teleurgesteld over de achteruitgang van dit restaurant.

Voor het eerst het onbeperkte concept geprobeerd hier. We waren gematigd positief. De gerechten waren gewoon wisselend van kwaliteit, echter nergens werd het top. De vraag is ook of dit kan voor dit geld, maar goed, je verwacht wel iets. Biefstuk die geheel doorgebakken is. Philly cheese steak op een zompig zacht stukje brood. Dat soort dingen. Visschotel wel weer lekker, soepje vooraf ook echt lekker. Zie verder de foto’s. Vriendelijke bediening. Drankjes niet perse heel goedkoop, maar ook niet duur. Al met al vonden wij het leuk voor een keer, maar we gaan er niet vaker eten.

Heerlijk verrassend eten en het personeel maakt echt je avond op en top vakwerk!

De pompoensoep was heerlijk; bij de serrano met meloen kon ik de meloen moeilijk vinden; broodje hamburger(5mm dik) smaakte niet naar vlees. Tot slot was het bolletje cassis-ijs met ijskristallen erop erg bevroren en hard, waardoor het moeilijk met een lepeltje te eten was: de smaak was overigens prima.

Bijzonder lekker nieuw menu gegeten. Wijn niet up to standard hierbij en prijzig.

Heerlijk gegeten. Onbeperkt eten van verschillende soorten hapjes. Eten is iets meer dan een tapas. Nadeel is dat je maar 1 gerecht per keer mag bestellen, voordeel daaraan is wel dat je jezelf niet volpropt en eigenlijk niet meer echt geniet. Service is op zich prima, maar soms ligt je bestelkaartje wat lang op tafel voor deze wordt opgehaald. En waar ze normaal bij restaurants nooit vragen om drinken of te weinig, was het hier iets teveel. Haast storend, maar vast niet voor de doordrinkers😉 Daarentegen cker de moeite waard weer te eten!

Geniet zonder limiet is echt een aanrader. Alle kleine productjes worden met zorg gemaakt en zijn zonder uitzondering smakelijk. Het restaurant is gezellig, maar wanneer het vol zit is het door de akoestiek wel erg rumoerig. Hoofdzaak is het eten, en daarvoor zit je hier helemaal goed.

Inhoud poke bowl was schep rijst zonder smaak, blokjes tomaat, mais, sojabonen en wakame. Geen azijn, geen sesam, geen smaak. De tonijn die erop hoorde waren ze vergeten. Hiervoor werd excuses aangeboden. De champignons met "roquefort" of "blauwe kaas" was niet vindbaar. Om zout en peper gevraagd om het nog wat smaak te geven. De kok had duidelijk geen liefde voor zijn vak. Erg teleurstellend. Bediening was vriendelijk maar loste niets op door eerder te vragen of het smaakte. Of om bij de tweede gang even langs te komen of dit wel lekker was. Jammer. Ik kom niet nog een keer.

Kwaliteit prijs slecht. Kipdrumsticks besteld, kipvleugels geserveerd, tonijn was doorbakken, saté te droog en weinig saus, champignons leken wel uit blik…over het algemeen niet voor herhaling vatbaar. Drank duur. 7,50 euro voor glaasje rode wijn, 3,25 voor gewoon kopje koffie…. Bediening was vriendelijk

De kaart is erg saai. Ik kreeg na het eerste gerecht al buikpijn. Daarnaast kan je proeven dat de guacamole uit een potje komt, maak deze gewoon vers! Ik veel recensies waar mensen zeggen dat het eten niet vers gemaakt is, doe hier dan ook iets mee.

Leuk concept, zoveel als je wilt bestellen, keuze genoeg! Het zijn geen kleine hapjes (zoals bv tapas) maar kleine gerechtjes. Heerlijk gegeten, uiterst vriendelijk personeel, kortom voor herhaling vatbaar!

Heeeeeerlijk gegeten , super ambiance, leuk vriendelijk service , top avond!

Vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel , vandaar de sterren. Het eten is matig en fantasieloos. De koude voorgerechten gaan nog wel. Biefstuk en bavette komen duidelijk van hetzelfde taaie stuk vlees en zijn uitgedroogd van buiten en rauw en koud van binnen. De "gewokte groenten" waren slap en smakeloos. De sauzen en dressings hadden weinig signatuur met een hoog unilever gehalte. De warme nacho's werden uit een zak Lays geschud in de (semi) open keuken. Geen aanrader.

Prima bediening en alert. Ook niet te lang hoeven wachten voor volgende rondes. Het concept is goed. All you can eat portie grootte prima. Smaakvol en goed gepresenteerd. Bedenk wel dat je er niet zit met een verwachting van een sterrenrestaurant. Dat zou niet fair zijn. Puntje van kritiek, de dame blanche met Belgische chocola met bijbetaling van een extra supplement van € 4,50 is die extra € 4,50 niet waard. Het was lekker, maar een klein chocolade stokje, geen warme chocolade en in een relatief klein glaasje, gaf ons wel te denken...Helaas.

Verrassend lekker gegeten in gezellige sfeer

bediening is aardig, dat is het dan ook wel. Het eten is smaakloos en saai, ingrediënten die het signatuur zouden moeten zijn zijn niet terug te vinden. Geen vadouvan in en de vadouvanmayo en geen doperwten puree op de flammenkuchen, als het er wel in of opzat was het zeker niet te proeven, wokgroenten lauw en rauw. Gelukkig stond er zout op tafel, wat elk gerecht ook wel nodig had. Gordon Ramsey zou hier zeggen dat de kok zijn passie heeft verloren. Veel uit een pakje, de muhammara op het broodplankje herkende ik als die van de AH, gelukkig gaven ze dat ook toe. Zo zonde, heel makkelijk zelf te maken. Mijn vingers jeukte om niet zelf even in de keuken bij te springen. Tot 2 x toe een haar in het eten (lees ik hieronder ook al een keer). Advies, draag haarnetjes, kosten bijna niks en zijn extra hygiënisch.

Was heel smakelijk en zag er goed uit

De kwaliteit van de meeste gerechten zijn matig, flauw en erg eentonig van smaak. De presentatie was niet verkeerd, beetje simpel en geen variatie aan groenten. Qua smaak leek alles op hetzelfde, dat is jammer. De bediening is aardig en vriendelijk. Tip; wanneer meerdere glazen wijn ingeschonken worden, adviseer dan de gasten een fles wijn. En wissel zo nu en dan een schoon glas en bestek, is wel erg armoedig.
