Definitively the best culinary experience I ever had in the Netherlands. Each dishes was an ode to local produces. From peas to asparagus, beets and artichoke. Each dish had its own identity to magnify the products. The vegetarian menu has nothing to envy of the one with meat. The attention to detail and kindness of the staff made the experience even more enjoyable. We would definitely come back to try another season's menu

What an extra gift you gave us during lunch; relaxed and very attentive service. Really delicious food with different textures and flavors. Surprising and balanced. A good matching wine choice. Location: top, beautiful building in the center of Utrecht. Inside very atmospheric and luxuriously decorated, beautiful. Reception very good. During the 5 courses the service became less but it was already later in the evening. Amuses were great, Kamubucca (how do you spell that) great taste. Bread was divine. First course peas was not for us. Second course langoustine was nice. Third course asparagus, looked beautiful, but quite salty and too smoked, not my thing. Fourth course, lamb .... Really not my thing, not the gravy, not the flavors. Second bread course was great. Then a bite of ice cream with fermented berry to get a blank canvas again, was special. Fifth course the summer king was okay but the rosemary was too strong with the strawberry. Wines were good, except the dessert wine was too strong and powerful for me. The smell was too strong. Sommelier was still energetic at the start of dinner, but as the evening progressed the sparkle went off. Everything looked beautiful, lots of Care and attention. But there is (no) accounting for taste. Personally, for me it doesn't come close to Karel V. But that is also the difference in stars. Both with Michelin and with my stars. Don't know if I will go back soon. Perhaps with a new menu. For now a nice experience, flavors didn't flow smoothly into each other for me. Nice people, spacious, beautiful location, lots of ambition where there is still room for more.

Had an extremely disappointing experience at heaven and earth last Saturday. The service was drowned in a much too busy and very noisy restaurant, service was very hasty, sloppy, had little real attention, serving was sloppy, food fell off plates, water was poured very clumsily by the host on duty. The explanation of dishes and/or wines was very short, nor powerful, the gentleman was barely audible due to the acoustics of the room. Our annoyance grew as the course progressed, the service remained sloppy and seemed uninterested, wine was forgotten to be served with the courses, dishes had already been placed on the table and the wine had not yet arrived. The menu was also somewhat disappointing, only after the 3rd course of the 6 course menu did the kitchen seem to wake up a bit with a more unique palette of flavors, the first 3 were very careful and not special. All in all, we had a very bad experience at this restaurant, we are used to restaurants that are listed in the Michelin guide, this was also indicated to the service and the response was quite surprised but little was done about it. Very special experience in a negative way.

Striving for perfection in conviviality. Four friends from Utrecht who experienced heaven on earth through culinary acrobatics. After a bike ride we arrived at the beautiful building on Keistraat. Armed with a hospitable smile, we were warmly welcomed by SVH master host Marco Westra. Turning right through the focused kitchen with a greeting from the white brigade, we continued our way to the table. Placed at a tightly set table near the window, which was slightly ajar, so that the fresh spring sun became part of the impressive dining room. An extremely correct and cheerful host poured us a beautiful glass of Champagne, accompanied by amusing appetizers. The fun had a royal kick-off with the Kingfish and we were the princes at the round table sipping a crisp glass of white wine. Surprised by the beetroot that we all had to eat as children. This time it was a top-notch treat. The fabulous color red was complemented with a glass of Dornfelder (coincidentally a wine that introduced me to the landscape of red years ago). On the side brioche bread with lovage. The atmosphere increased and the first tear fell on the cheek from laughter. Time to wash the Baambrugse pig and rinse it with Beaujolais Moulin-à-Vent. Sounds disrespectful, but it was a surprising wine and food combination and delicious! Conceived by the mastermind of sommelier Sanne, who is a professional hostess, focused and straight to the point. Recover from the giggles with a cooling pre-dessert. The fun had reached its peak. What a wonderful get-together with friends. Time to finish with Conference Pear & caramel and a glass filled with syrupy Macvin du Jura, fantastic! Maître Marco invited us for coffee & friandises in the wine bar. Sabayon, Burgundian Madeleines, a carefully chosen glass of Calvados and coffee concluded a magical afternoon where the pursuit of perfection was achieved in conviviality. One deep bow to All Heroes of Heaven & Earth.

There were some dinner wishes and for those who did not drink alcohol there was also a matching drink package. The wines paired perfectly with the different dishes! Had a very nice experience. A great location if you want to have something unique for dinner in Utrecht. Everything is right, the atmosphere is relaxed, the staff is very friendly and knows what they are talking about. The food is very tasty and you can tell that attention has been paid to each dish. Beautiful flavors, not too heavy and the vegetarian options are great. The accompanying wines match well and are clearly explained, without becoming too complex. Perfect for a night out when you want something more than just going out for dinner. Highly recommended.

Yesterday we went for dinner with the two of us. What a pleasant and wonderful evening we had. What "heavenly" dishes, a real taste sensation, the kitchen brigade knows what they are doing. The service is friendly and knowledgeable. We also had a wine arrangement and each wine matched each dish perfectly. Definitely worth repeating.

We went here with a group. The welcome and service throughout the evening was great. They paid attention to every detail. As for the food-wine pairing, it was particularly successful. And last but not least the food itself was delicious. Beautiful dishes with sometimes surprising flavor combinations. The slow-cooked beetroot was particularly excellent. We will definitely come back here again.

We travel a lot and have eaten in some very high-end restaurants around the world. Hemel&Aarde is in my top 3. First, we really like and applaud their food ethos and local sourcing. The ambience is sophisticated and refined yet also relaxed and the dining room is handsome and spectacular - very high ceilings, huge windows. We chose the 6 course tasting Winter menu - one vegetarian, one normal. 3 amuse-bouches. All courses were fascinating and divine flavours, flavour-combinations and textures which worked really well. This is fine high end tasting, so don’t expect huge portions but we were full by the end. Staff were delightful: friendly, responsive, competent and well-informed. The only course which wasn’t knockout for me was the pork main course. Service took more than 3 hours, a bit too slow for our preference. Thank you for an outstanding culinary experience for my birthday.

We had a delicious meal at Hemel and Aarde, which in addition to delicious dishes also offers a nice selection of wines. The location is nice, and although I had heard in advance that it could feel a bit chilly due to the high ceilings, that was absolutely not the case. The atmospheric lighting and smart layout create an intimate ambiance. The audience is young and trendy, which brings a contemporary energy. However, there were some points of interest. The controls feel a bit stiff. There is a lack of a personal touch or interaction, and the explanation of the dishes often comes across as a rehearsed routine. This makes the experience less relaxing. In addition, the pace of the dishes was on the high side. It sometimes seemed as if the dishes were rushed through, without sufficient consideration being given to the accompanying wine pairing. It happened several times that the wine was still half full while the next dish was already being served. There is clearly room for improvement here, especially considering the prices of €220 per person. Although the quality of the food is certainly good, it lacks the finesse you would expect from a Michelin-worthy restaurant. By Utrecht standards this is a five-star restaurant (Google), but to really shine on a national level, the balance and service must be taken to the next level.

What a great experience! I am enjoying it so much. Everything was very professional and competent, you can really lean back. We arrived too early so we started at the wine bar. They communicate so well with each other, we were perfectly guided by different staff and they knew exactly what was/wasn't etc. Really impressed! And also the food and matching wines, it was ultimate enjoyment. I have never experienced such good service before. Top! And the atmosphere and ambiance are also great.

Amazing venue, fantastic food and a unique wine list that in itself is worth the visit. We really enjoyed this beautiful restaurant with its spacious indoor space surrounded by large windows. The five course tasting menu was a mix of modern, handcrafted delights based on fresh, often locally sourced ingredients. Their wine list was extensive and also featured Dutch wines which was a pleasant surprise for us. We found their Dutch Riesling especially well balanced being on the dryer side with the strong acidity one expects from Riesling.

Wednesdaynight , 🕡 p.m . I visited by advice this restaurant wich is situated inside a hotel in a remote street in downtown Utrecht and was denied eating in the main restaurant because “ all was reserved “ as the servant and his chubby maitre ‘d pointed out . For those not knowing : “ all is reserved “ is since the 90’s a frequent excuse arrogant assumptive staff of fancy restaurants use to deny guests , who they feel because of their looks or the way they dress and assume not able to afford the prices on their menu , entrance . Moreover , when I said I was gonna eat quickly = within an hour gone , the older male staffer who looked more like an older student doing this parttime , said that they served a 5-6 course meal and such was impossible . Strange when he never met me before and doesn’t know my credentials since the 80’s regarding eating in upscale , fancy Michellin decorated restaurants or simple traditional deli’s . So clearly any reasonable suggestion was whisked away as “ we don’t want you eating in the main restaurant, only somewhere at the bar After leaving I waited at the frontdesk and heard the biggest nogo one cannot do in the restaurant or hotel business . Gossipping with the kitchen staff about the guest who just - you thought - left and ridicule him . It was not the older staffer but his younger servant who spoke to me in the beginning when entering the restaurant . I then walked to the door to leave the hotel but first confronted him with what I just heard him doing wich is gossiping about me . Ofcourse he was shocked .and I said : “ what u just did , gossiping and ridicule a guest when there was no need to , is a huge nogo in this business I know so well over the last 40 years . if u worked for me , you would be fired immediately, period . He made an excuse when busted but to be honest I missedthe sincerity of it . Anyhow I was going to stay - asked earlier for a room before heading towards the restaurant - but to be honest : Hemel & Aarde is a nogo for me cause with this kinda lousy service , combined with assumptive biased arrogant hospitality , one wonders if the food is also on that same level : Blant , pretentious and moreover just a nouvelle cuisine of the 80’s makeover .

Ate here last night. The restaurant is in a beautiful location in a stately building. The entire evening is actually an experience with very knowledgeable and friendly service. The vegetarian dishes are delicious with excellent wines to match. However, the meat dishes are far too salty. This dominates so much that the other flavors disappear. In addition, the amount charged for a glass of champagne as an aperitif is really absurd! The prices of the small cup of coffee and water are also astronomical. It's a shame, this detracts from the experience and leaves a nasty aftertaste to the evening.

Heavenly? After reading the many good reviews, my girlfriend made a reservation here for the two of us. Before our dinner we first took a seat in the wine bar for a small snack and drink. What a nice place the wine bar is! After our small snack and drink we were neatly led to our table in the restaurant, the staff very thoughtfully moved our coats to a locked cloakroom for dinner. Then the first impression of the restaurant, grand because of the high and impressive ceiling. Despite the large space, it did not feel cold. The acoustics were also excellent. You could easily have a conversation with each other without being bothered by the other guests. The staff are friendly and well instructed about the menu. They explain that very well. Then the food, to be honest it disappointed. The appetizers did not surprise, the first appetizer was really salty with an overtone of parsley. The second appetizers did not surprise either. That was a shame. Then the first course, the king fish. This was tasty and well balanced in taste. The second course: Oyster and cabbage. This one was also tasty. So far so good, you would think. But alas. The third course: the zucchini itself was tasty, but the accompanying sauce was much too salty. The taste of the zucchini and other ingredients completely disappeared. The next course: the veal brisket. The combination with corn was well thought out, but the execution of the dish was not well executed. The veal sweetbread was not cooked properly, which made the taste disappointing. That's why my table companion didn't eat it either. When clearing the plate, my table companion was not asked why it had not been eaten. The waiter shrugged it off rather annoyed. That was a shame. The next course, the quail. First, the celeriac was served by mistake, which we had not ordered. Fortunately it was quickly repaired. We ordered the quail without organ meat and this was taken into account. Only here, the sauce was really very salty. That was such a shame because the taste of the quail completely disappeared. We only ate the quail and left the sauce there. We thought this was really a shame. We got a small dessert for dessert, which was really necessary to reduce the salty taste. Fortunately that helped. The desserts, the rosehip dish and the Black Banana pecan pie were ok. Unfortunately no spectacular ending to compensate for the previous misses. Then the wines, we were not impressed with them either. Unfortunately, we could not agree with the previously reported reviews. We don't think the price-quality ratio is realistic. The prices are equal to those of 1-star Michelin and Heaven and Earth does not live up to that level. The speed of serving the dishes is also too fast, it can and should really be slower. If you order matching wines, you really have to drink to match the speed of serving, which is definitely a point for improvement. Conclusion: unfortunately it was not heaven on earth for us.

Great food and drinks. I often think back to the veal wezerik or the black banana pie... Delicious! However, blunt knives with such works of art on your plate should be prohibited. Service was good at Hemel, but the food wasn't the best, especially for us as meatlovers. Dishes were more vegetarian. The dishes were designed beautifully. But dessert gets the minimum rate! I never want that many spices in my dessert. We couldn't even have one spoon of desserts. The strength of night was tasty wines, though.

Hemel & Aarde provides a good alternative to somewhat more expensive Michelin star restaurant. Absolutely stellar service, and a nice interior with gorgeous big windows providing a lot of natural light. The bread served was heavenly (pun intended). The food itself was tasty as well, but I found the spring menu slightly underwhelming - predominantly sour (over half of dishes), which overwhelmed the tasting experience for me. Nonetheless, a fine addition on Utrecht's growing fine cuisine map, and I will return once the menu has changed.

This restaurant is a MUST GO in Utrecht. We enjoyed a six course menu combined with our own picked bottles from the wine list (ask for a recommendation!). Flawless service, creative & tasteful dishes and a very special atmosphere. Oh and don’t forget to go for a drink in the updated wine bar next to restaurant! Don’t want to go home? It was a wonderful experience. The room is located in a room worthy of a Renaissance cathedral where each dish is a prayer. The sommelier takes us on a journey to a Europe of wine that we apparently knew too little about. Thank you for the attention given to my partner's birthday.

For a medium-sized city without a Michelin star restaurant, Utrecht has quite a few excellent options for upscale dining. Think of Fico, WT, Concours, Karel V, and, of course, Hemel & Aarde (Heaven & Earth). Having tried all of them, I can safely say that these are all worth a visit. Hemel & Aarde works with a fixed menu of 5 or 7 courses, adjusted for the current season. For us, this was Fall. We took the 5 courses with wine pairing. Without spoiling too much, most dishes were a pleasant mix of flavours and textures. My absolute favourite was the ‘Leek’ course, which had intense flavours and a pleasant crunch. The most interesting and complex dish was the pumpkin desert. Lots of stuff was happening, but unfortunately the taste was a bit flat. The other dishes were certainly good, but I’d rate them as average for this price point. The wine pairings stood out though. All extremely interesting and highly complimentary to the dishes. Even the dessert wine was great. Combine it all with a fantastic interior, excellent seats, and a cozy ambience and you have yourself an excellent night out.

Wow, what a great experience! We had dinner here with my family and friends for my and my sister's birthday. The atmosphere, the food, the interior, the "heaven" that broke open (with projection on the ceiling), the light-hearted jokes from the service, the knowledge and skills of the staff - everything was really right. And then I haven't even mentioned the special wines we tasted. I'll definitely return! Absolutely fantastic food from amuse to friandises. Everything is in balance, original, special, tasteful and beautifully made. Rarely have you eaten so well and not only was the food correct down to the last detail, the service was also super good. They know a lot, are themselves, hospitable and involved. We were only in the Netherlands for a week and in Utrecht for half a day, but we will definitely go here again next time and then we will also sleep upstairs. Were looking for the Polman's House but found Heaven and Earth instead. What a very nice surprise. I just don't understand why they don't have a Michelin star. We had eaten in a 1 star restaurant in Amsterdam the day before and they absolutely cannot match this.

Special! The restaurant is beautiful, the experience starts at the door, which makes you want to enjoy a full evening of dining. A menu that included Jerusalem artichoke, kale and banana. What really made it complete was the fantastic service: correct, but not stiff and with interest and understanding. If I may mention two points: it can be a bit chilly in the restaurant and the portion of fish or meat in the dish could be a little more generous in my opinion. Thanks for the nice evening!

Summarizing in one word: Wao or Wow, whatever you prefer! I'm a foodie, i enjoy and appreciate fine dining restaurants. From all the 1 and 2 michelin star restaurants I've been, this one tops it! Why!? The perfect combo of service, food, atmosphere equals to amazing experience! I want to shout out to the wine sommelier of Hemel en Aarde! He/she/they did a great job with the pairing. Yesterday we went for a 6 course menu plus the dessert with wine arrangement and it surpassed our expectations. At certain point we stopped discussing about our experience with the pairing because we were speechless and got goosebumps. Yes you can get goosebumps from enjoying food 😁. Lastly, you get more value than what you pay for. Not only with the experience, but also the fact you get 2 amuses, 1 shot of homemade signature Pho and a continuous restock of bread and amazing butter. Just Wao! Con: If I would have to really look into things I can improve, would be to improve the acoustic in the room. At first it got loud and overwhelming but we got used it, then it was fine. Ps : no pics because we forgot and focused too much in the moment😉

We enjoyed a 6-course dinner at Hemel en Aarde in this beautiful, iconic, monumental setting with stunning high ceilings. All dishes were nicely presented and the flavour combinations were intriguing. However, several dishes were not completely balanced taste-wise and were overly salty, which overshadowed the flavour of the key ingredients. The staff was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable about the dishes and wines and subtly omnipresent throughout the evening. Overall, we had a really nice evening. Thank you!

Our evening at Hemel&Aarde was just a party! Served with a literal “warm welcome” we received one taste experience after another. The atmosphere was relaxed, the service knowledgeable and friendly. Maitre Marco knew how to present the wines like no other and chef René regularly proudly explained the creations from his kitchen. You have to allow yourself this every now and then :)

The restaurant is located in an iconic building, beautifully decorated, fantastic large windows and the ceiling reaches into the sky. Good food, a bit overly long explanations per course by a different waiter each time, but ok. A waiter who hastily pours wine and water and invariably makes a mess is irritating and gives a disinterested impression, so as an owner I would keep a closer eye on that. Bread was great, unfortunately the replenishment was somewhat slow, while we did need the bread to replenish our stomachs, the portions are minimal. Nice wine pairing, sometimes surprising, sometimes the story seemed more important than the taste, but all in all a successful evening. Oh yes, I could barely read the menu even with reading glasses.

Still a bit disappointing unfortunately. We did the 7 course autumn menu including wine pairing. Actually it was a bit too much food because of the large portions. Starters fine, only the turbot was not great. Main course (duck) was unfortunately not the star of the show, sauce too strong, high in salt. Wines good, except for a miss with a Dutch sulfur wine. Finally (sorry) they forgot to settle the reservation fee. Certainly not a bad restaurant, but it doesn't really excel in anything.

Wir hatten einen rundum phantastischen Abend in tollem und „himmlischem“ Ambiente. Wir hatten das fünf Gänge Menü, das mit verschiedenen amuse geules begann, die schon außergewöhnlich gut waren. Jeder der folgenden Gänge war sehr sehr lecker, wobei der vegane Gang ein besonderes Highlight war. Der Service ist sehr aufmerksam, freundlich und kompetent. Hier het herfstmenu van 7 gangen gegeten plus extra desserts. We waren met zijn vieren en hebben werkelijk heerlijk gegeten. De bediening heel kundig en vriendelijk, de wijn pairing sloot prachtig aan bij de gerechtjes. Iedere gang was weer beter dan de vorige. Voortreffelijke avond en zullen zeker terugkomen! El restaurante ofrece almuerzo los viernes, y tuve suerte de conseguir una mesa. El lugar es acogedor con cocina abierta y cinco o seis mesas. El servicio fue muy personal, atento y cálido. Cada plato era una pequeña obra maestra, bellamente arreglado y los sabores bastante atrevidos. El chef no teme usar ingredientes y especias del oriente, lo que resulta en combinaciones inusuales y creaciones intensamente sabrosas. Es una fusión entre la cocina francesa y japonesa moderna.
