Restaurant @ Hotel Vue in Wijk 04: Berg en Terblijt - Vilt

We ordered two portions of bitterballen there on Friday. A regular portion of six was okay for €7.50. When the other portion arrived, filled with Serrano ham, I almost fell off my chair! For €17, we got three bitterballen with a few dabs of mayo, bread, and a bit of salad that looked more like a dressing. But see for yourselves. Sorry, but that was our first and last visit to that restaurant.

Every year, this is our go-to spot for lunch on the way home from our holiday destination. Good food, clean, and friendly staff. The toilets are spotless too!

What a strange experience. On Monday evening, 4 tables were occupied, yet it was a very long wait. The starter was described as a tuna tartare, but it didn't taste like that; it tasted more like a duck pâté. Upon inquiry, it turned out to indeed be a duck rillette, we were told by the person who served the dish earlier with an explanation. If you know what you are eating, the dish was actually quite okay, and the situation seemed funny to us at the time. After more than an hour, we asked when the main course was coming; 'we are taking our time here,' was the answer. Except at the high table with the wines, where there is plenty of attention. After 75 minutes, the main course finally arrived, of which we unfortunately couldn't eat much. We couldn't really judge the two bites we did manage to eat due to the irritation caused by the long wait and the waiter's strange behavior. All in all, a very strange turn of events before we had to leave the dinner early due to an unforeseen personal accident. A long wait, as mentioned; inside before seven and back out after half past eight, with the main course just served and everything settled properly, including dessert. With just 4 tables occupied, it would be possible to distribute the staff's attention more evenly and not keep customers waiting so long. The explanation of the starter seemed like a misplaced joke or meant to avoid taking the customer seriously. The waiter seemed to be overestimating himself. A pity, because what is served gets overshadowed by this.

The food is absolutely delicious, and the service is very friendly. I highly recommend trying the taco pizza and the shawarma sandwich — they’re on another level when it comes to great taste! The prices are also very reasonable.

Apparently, the tower collapsed this winter. So there's nothing left of the tower.
