Exceptional quality - best steak Ive ever had - suoerb griddled veg & potato fries 👊

Last Saturday, January 10th, we booked the "cheese fondue" at Jansz. Winter Garden, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. The staff seemed unfamiliar with the concept, and the execution was chaotic. We waited over an hour, after which we were served something that looked more like half-warm, reheated brie than cheese fondue. There was no warming pot or rechaud underneath, so it cooled down immediately. The vegetables were old and wilted, and the bread was forgotten twice. We had also called beforehand to inquire about the fondue for three people, and were confirmed to be possible. However, upon arrival, we were told it was for two, meaning we had to order either for two or four people. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, the dish was briefly reheated and returned, but the quality remained subpar. The bread that finally arrived was also not fresh. Despite repeatedly expressing our dissatisfaction, we still had to pay around €140. To make matters worse, the bread, an add-on for €9, was also listed twice on the bill. I'm fine with a 5-star hotel charging higher prices, but you expect the service and quality to match. This experience was downright awful and almost felt like a candid camera. Not being taken seriously is not what you expect at the Pulitzer.

Very nice experience at Jansz: delicious food, cosy atmosphere, very accommodating staff, attentive to allergies/intolerances, and a much-appreciated kids’ menu.

A wonderful experience for our New Year's Eve dinner. The staff were incredibly attentive, the dishes were delicate, refined, and surprising... a truly excellent time.

Friendly service, did not feel rushed at all.

Absolutely amazing and atmospheric place. My burger was good with lots of flavour and the desert of chocolate ball was the main highlight. Lovely original flavours. The whole was let down somewhat by the seabass that was undercooked and the waitresses that were too enthusiastic in pushing the table breads drinks and beverages. V kind of them to offer coffee and tea for the undercooked fish but you come to a place like this once and at the prices charged expect a perfect experience.

A disappointing experience from start to finish. No one was at the reception, and when a young woman finally appeared she didn't seem motivated. The table wasn’t great and the service felt flat. The duck liver pâté and the recommended glass of wine were good. My partner’s steak was good quality but only lukewarm, and when we mentioned it, the maître reacted with polite indifference and offered a glass of wine. Nothing was truly bad, but sadly nothing was really good either. It all felt like a carefully packaged product rather than a genuine experience. As a tourist you’re unlikely to return anyway... And this was meant to be a birthday dinner, which I had clearly mentioned when placing my reservation. Not for me. I won’t be coming back. PS: Please check the underside of your tables – I ended up touching old chewing gum when I pulled ours towards me. It was revolting.

The food at Jansz. was truly amazing, and we really enjoyed the warm, stylish atmosphere of the restaurant. Our waitress, Elizabeth, a lovely Ukrainian girl, made the experience even better with her friendly and attentive service. She gave great recommendations and made us feel very welcomed. A fantastic day!!

We were unable to have dinner because the people who served us at the entrance were unprofessional and acted in an unpleasant manner.

The place itself is very beautiful and the food is good. However, the waiting time was about two and a half hours, which was far too long. Another issue was with the service: the waiter kept coming to remove our plates even though we had clearly asked several times to keep them. It felt rushed and inattentive. The most disappointing part, however, was an interaction with one of the waitresses. For clarity, I have nothing against Greek people at all — I mention her nationality only to describe who she was. After I politely said that the wait had been quite long, she responded in a very disrespectful way and told me she hoped not all men were like me. I found this completely unprofessional and unnecessary. Because of this experience, I can only give one star. Very disappointing and not worth the visit.

The quality of the food absolutely does not justify the prices. The staff is not up to standard: unprofessional, not dynamic, and lacking proper communication skills, unable to handle guests’ needs. The wait was excessive: almost an hour to receive the main course, after very underwhelming dishes starter . And if we hadn’t called the waitress ourselves to clear the table with the glasses from the first wine still sitting there we probably would’ve never received the second course. And the most surreal detail? Trying to pass off chiodini as porcini… to an Italian guest. Pure science fiction. A disappointing experience, nowhere near what it claims to be.

We chose the recommended lunch deal menu (1 of the starter dish and 1 of the main course dish) the starter was supposed to have porcini mushrooms but the mushrooms served were not porcini at all, but rather chiodini, and the portion was even smaller than a regular appetizer, which was never mentioned beforehand. Despite having only two courses, we waited 45/50 minutes, and they clearly forgot about our table, I had to go and call them. Once I did, the waitress addressed us in an unfriendly and rude manner. My friend, understandably frustrated after such a long wait, was simply explaining the situation to us even talk to her personally when she openly said she hoped men weren’t all as disrespectful as him. This comment immediately caused a strong argument between the waitress and us. After all of this, we were very disappointed and talk about it with the manager that only say sorry like to make us happy and stupid! no discount was offered and no effort was made to apologize for the bad service and the uncomfortable atmosphere especially considering we spent more than €600 in total. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience, both for the low quality of the food served and the unprofessional behavior of the staff. Definitely would not recommend for people that love food and good experience with it. This is only about apparance not substance.

Booked this for our anniversary and birthday dinner the service and ambiance was 10/10 and really nice. The food was also decent and we overall were very pleased with the meal. We loved that the staff even took the time to leave a card saying happy birthday it was a nice touch. Our only piece of feedback would be in the way they price their menu. We ordered the burger added the truffle and pate thinking the total was €35 a bit of an upgrade from the €28 normal burger listed, as this was the price listed next to it similar to the rest of the prices of the remaining dishes. Come to find out at the end that it was an additional €35 on top of the cost of the burger which just felt a bit misleading when we came to pay for a €63 burger!! Just be careful if you order and we’d suggest listing the price as €63 for future guests so they don’t leave with a shock.

Took the lunch menu: - Arrived to an unhappy hostess who was too busy talking to a colleague and did not noticed we had been waiting 5min at the entrance along with another couple behind us. Zero smiles or warmth from her, and she sat us at the table and poured sparkling water half in the glass and half on the table, then walked off with no apology. We had to ask the waitress to give a cloth to clean it up. Maybe the hostess was having a bad day, but she shouldn’t be working at a fine dining restaurant, McDonalds suits her better. - The winter salad & fish was perfect, but the steak was so chewy we ate one bite and left the rest. - No one came to the table to ask if the meal was okay, the restaurant was not busy and seemed like we were left abandoned having to grab someone’s attention for the bill.

Came here on a whim after visiting Anne Frank House while on holiday in Amsterdam and was severely disappointed. I have a lot of food allergies and tend to eat at nicer restaurants because they’re better equipped to deal with that. The kitchen did well with my allergies and the service was great — but the food was not. The portions were unbelievably small. My boyfriend was in the bathroom when the food came and he thought I had eaten half my meal while he was gone even though I hadn’t touched it. I would have been okay with the small portion had the food itself been of high caliber, but it wasn’t. My salmon came without the skin, which was disappointing and odd. My favorite part is the crispy skin. The ratatouille lacked spice and flavor — it just tasted like zucchini and tomato paste. My boyfriend had the duck and found it chewy. I will say the salad we had was fresh and tasty, and they made me a special one with just lettuce, avocado, and oil/vinegar since I couldn’t have anything on the menu due to my allergies. But overall this meal was not worth the 111 euros I paid for it.

We had lovely dinner at Jansz. Service was very attentive even though the restaurant was packed. Food was tasty, duck breast the highlight of our dinner. The atmosphere is very inviting and intimate to spend a lovely evening. Chocolate sphere for dessert was nice but better without the grapefruit juice they put around.

Very good food, and very nice spot. The restaurant is beautiful ! I recommend the burger !! I had a bit of trouble with service, as it felt very rushed. Someone tried taking my plate even though I didn’t finish to eat my food. The only bad thing of my time there - quite a big one actually, because for that price, you expect everything to be outstanding.

Service was terrible. Took forever, didn’t know how serve the wine (kept banging the glass). Left items on the bill that we hadn’t even ordered. For a restaurant of that quality the experience was such a disappointment. Food was great (when it finally got there). I’ll add that the restaurant was NOT busy at all.

The starters were excellent, particularly their 'mushroom on toast'. It left us all wanting more! The Creekstone Farms ribeye was ok. The meat was not richly beefy or flavourful, but rather quite flavourless. Also the jus was flat and in the end, the two of us who shared the dish both concluded that it should have been left off (the flavour/rub on the meat itself was really good). The sole was very tasty. The vanilla sundae and toasted banana desserts were great and we gobbled them up. The decor and vibe of the place is classy and elegant, but also casual, meaning it's really comfy for a hearty dinner with friends over some wine (and great wine will be found here!) Finally, the service we got was terrible. We are generally very mindful of busy servers, and we are not very demanding (once the wine was down and the orders were in, the only additionals we got were waters for the table generally when the server came to ask or clear things, and one set of after dinner drinks), yet we were left feeling like everything we asked for was terribly inconvenient, and we felt quite rushed during the meal. The server was not having a great day that day we thought.

Delicious, refined cuisine in a modern setting. We had great service for Daniele and the rest of team. The beet salad was refreshing and the sea bass was amazing. We tried the cheese platter and were pleasantly surprised by the selection and quality of Dutch cheeses. We highly recommend!

A beautiful place with every detail, a select atmosphere, and lovely background music. The food was excellent and well-prepared. The service was very courteous, and a special mention goes to Yan, who was extremely respectful and gave us excellent advice.

we chose this restaurant bc they offered lamb chops. we were staying at the hotel for 2 nights and chose to dine here our last night in Amsterdam, expecting to have a wonderful evening. Didn’t happen. Even tho we were hotel guests we were shoved into a tiny table in the corner, next to a table with a couple so close we could almost feel their breath and in a room with a screaming baby. God help us!!! We ordered an expensive bottle of wine and foie gras. Then we ordered our salad and sipped on our wonderful bottle of wine. The waiter came to the table to take our main course order and for the very first time stated they had no lamb chops.. the very reason we chose this restaurant and the bottle of wine to compliment it. No excuse offered as to why we were not told this up front so we could have left. We ordered steak which we really didn’t want and received a bill for over $300. Just a miserable experience for our last evening in Amsterdam.

Omg the Seabass is to die for! And everything’s else is beyond expectation too! Highly recommend!

We dined at Jansz last night to celebrate the end of a three week Viking River cruise from Avignon to Amsterdam. The ambiance, service and food were just right for the occasion. Between the three of us we ordered: drinks: mango rum spritz; starters: oysters or burrata & tomatoes; entree: salmon or ravioli; dessert: white chocolate sphere. The chef even came to our table to make sure he cooked the salmon to our preferred temperature. And our waiter Bram was great! We highly recommend Jansz if you live in or are visiting Amsterdam!!

This was a very nice restaurant with delicious modern Dutch food. The decor was nice. The food was good and the service was great. I highly recommend this restaurant.

As a family of four visiting from Canada, we were greeted rudely by the host and then seated in a poor location, even though the restaurant was nearly empty. It felt like we weren’t truly welcome. The service remained cold and inattentive, and the food was disappointing — small portions, bland taste, and prices that didn’t reflect the quality. Overall, a frustrating and underwhelming experience.

Had a wonderful dinner here while on a quick trip. Sat in the Rose garden which was quaint and and a bit more casual. Service was very good and all staff polite and friendly. We ordered some sharables; beef tartare and spiced almonds and olives. The beef tartare was good but at moments, more chewy than I'd prefer. For dinner we ordered the Sea Bass, Lamb Chops and Ravioli, all delicious! The Sea Bass was probably our favorite. August 2025 Update: this used to be my favourite restaurant in Amsterdam, I ate here for my Birthdays and friends Birthdays. Unfortunately last night on my Birthday I was shocked to discover how bad the quality has gotten. The Burrata was dry, the bread even more dry like it had been sitting out for hours. My Tenderloin steak ordered medium rare was not only fatty in parts (as was my partner’s) but it was so undercooked it was blue in the middle - of course by the time I got to the middle and noticed half was inedible - we had gone through half the meal so sending it back would have been a waste of time. I mentioned it at the end expecting a comp, even small, as a gesture, since it’s €55 and this should just not happen at this price point but nothing happened. The jus was watery and tasted of nothing, the steak was under seasoned, the mash was bland, the chicory salad needed dressing. The only thing that was good were the fries and even they were average. And, while I received a Birthday card, they seem to have stopped the free glass of bubbly which was always a classy touch. Service was very friendly but as mentioned I would have expected a little more effort when I complained. The Rose garden was beautiful but that was the only highlight. Honestly I am beyond disappointed - if I had paid half of what I did I would have been displeased, but I just feel ripped off. I truly hope whoever is in charge realises that cutting corners is not going to work in their favour for long. Last year’s review below, makes me sad to read it now: This is one of my favourite restaurants in Amsterdam, the food is incredible and even reasonably priced for the quality and quantity, plus the service is fantastic. We got a complementary card and glass of Cava because it was my friend’s Birthday which was such a nice touch. Could not have had a better evening! Recommend the Steak Frites, truly delicious!

Food was delicious and cooked to perfection. The portions were quite small - even for European standards. Unfortunately, I felt like I was given the cold shoulder by the staff - our server was snickering to a colleague while attending our table. They forgot a few items that my table ordered. I even had to remind staff to bring a bottle a wine to the table. It was worth the 30% off…

Superb food here. There was a Brazilian girl who also spoke Spanish, which was a delight. We went back two days later. The guys were nice too, but the Brazilian girl's treatment was unbeatable. The Greek girl who served us at the entrance was also a sweetheart.

The cuisine and food preparation are truly masterful. The staff are perfect. They form a close-knit and efficient team that is completely dedicated to customer service. I highly recommend it.

We wilden dit restaurant een keer uitproberen. En dit was geen goede ervaring prijs / kwantiteit verhouding is geheel mis. We bestelden beiden een ossenhaas van € 55. Kortom een stevige prijs, dus dit moet een goede kwaliteit stuk vlees zijn. En dat was het ook. Echter toen ze het kwamen brengen op een bord waar ook de puntdak friet op stond zag ik het vlees niet. Toen ik het bord draaide kwam er een klein stukje vlees te voorschijn. Schandalig klein zelfs. Medium rare bleek bijna door gebakken te zijn. We hebben het teruggestuurd. Om in een nieuwe poging medium-rare een medium terug te krijgen. De wijnen prijzen gaan 3 keer plus over de kop waar 2 gebruikelijk is. Kortom veel te veel geld voor wat je ervoor terug krijgt. Een oude regel kwam weer in mij op. Nooit in het hotel restaurant dineren waar je slaapt.

Pretentious. It's not bad, but it's not that great. The menu is short, and on top of that, they didn't have one dish. It's okay, but nothing special.

Lovely restaurant, great starter and main options. Food is meticulously prepared but portions are small even for the fine dining atmosphere. We had crudo, sweet corn with black garlic, celeriac and pate followed by Bavette. All perfectly cooked apart from meat being a bit underseasoned, but delicious all the way. The staff is super kind and their gesture for our anniversary with their handwritten card and complimentary champagne left us impressed and joyful. All and all, great experience for a date night.

Disappointing food. The tomato salad that had goat cheese listed as the first ingredient had a barely noticeable amount of goat cheese dusting, no actual pieces of goat cheese and no goat cheese flavour. It was just tomatoes and watermelon. The burger was ok, nothing exciting. The seabass was a small fillet of fish on a bed of wilted spinach, also no extra touch for flavour. The interior is nice.

We’ve lunch this week at the restaurant and everything was very good! The ceviche and burrata incredible, also the fish and the strawberry with champagne for dessert were all delicious! Attendance was very good as well.

Nice restaurant especially when its sunny and you can seat outside.

The appearance of the place suggests that you can have a really good and high-quality dinner here. The reality is completely different. Having a reservation and sitting in an empty room for a (cold) appetizer, the same was with the second course. One waitress served the entire restaurant (3 rooms) despite the presence of at least 4 managers, who took absolutely no part in serving the guests, which resulted in omnipresent chaos and mess, mixed orders, long waiting times even for an ordered glass of wine. Chaotic service can still be forgiven, but the quality of the food is not, and it was at least poor, especially the dessert. The appetizer and main course were correct, but the dessert tasted as if the chef had started cooking after smoking a huge joint. The strawberry ice cream with champagne described in the menu turned out to be ice cream covered in vinegar and olive oil, and there was not a drop of champagne. The staff tried to explain this disgusting dessert with the "chef's concept", but if it really was an original concept, it would be better for the chef to change professions.

The menu is fairly classic but well executed. A pleasant setting. One star less because the 'Dutch cheese' plate serves half French cheeses; I can tell it's Maroilles :)

The location is nice, but the experience didn’t quite match the setting. Our table was wobbly, and the service left a lot to be desired—waiters didn’t seem familiar with the menu, and I had to ask twice for a straw because they had run out. I paid €21 for a gin & tonic, which felt steep given the overall experience. Honestly, it felt overrated as a place to have a drink.

Nice please for a fancy lunch with amazing 5 stars service and beautiful place. We ordered a 2 course Menu stater + Main with only € 35 per person. Such a good bargain for 5 stars restaurant food with amazing services.

Underwhelming, to say the least. 1-hour wait between each dish. Average tasting dishes for 130€pp. Only the place is worth noting on the positive end of things, great decoration and general vibes. The rest is to forget.

I wanted to book a table for 5 people on May 9 for my comments and make an advance payment. For 2 days no one answers my letters, for 2 days I call and they switch me from phone to phone, then they say that they will definitely call me back and answer my letter. Two days, I can't get any answer. If they are so inattentive to future clients, I am sure that the service during their stay in the restaurant leaves much to be desired.

Incredible interior with several themed areas, loved it. Service was professional and unobtrusive. Fine dining type of food with several plates, but wasn't impressed myself. Particularly celery was too sour. Wine was great though.

Janz makes for a unique evening - very good food and a great service. Prices are what they are and probably top of the range in some way but dinner below €80p.p. is very possible when not including wines. Wine card is good and with decent prices if you know your stuff or are a bit adventurous. Janz has a tendency to try to upsale a bit (the finger food selection before the menu is all optional but tempting albeit slightly pricey) - overall I think (and based on the price of 1 oyster!) the prices are higher than equivalent restaurants by 15-20% but at the same time the location and the service are absolutely worth it. In my book it is a select place for special occasions!
