What a hidden gem this restaurant is! Fine dining, pure and seasonal ingredients, creative combinations, and flavor sensations at an affordable price. A lovely, relaxed atmosphere and passionate staff. The accompanying kombucha with each dish (in a wine glass) was the perfect finishing touch. We'll be back!

Four of us enjoyed a plant-based meal at Kasvio's "old location." It was surprising and delicious, paired with some tasty wines. Even the true carnivores among us enjoyed the kombucha. We'll definitely be back when they move to Utrecht city center.

A vegan restaurant that you are unlikely to find by chance if you do not live nearby. We are just nearby, but it took us a while to get there. And we are not even vegetarians, but we go to Kasvio too. The Finnish chef is very inventive and caring, the staff is friendly, the terrace is cozy. The food is tasty, unusual, but without the usual unconditional oriental flavor for such places and especially delicious. You need to reserve a place, but you do not have to regret it. Just go regularly

Highly recommended vegan fine-dining experience! 1 fixed menu with 5 courses that changes regularly according to what nature has to offer within the season. Flavourful, qualitative ingredients creatively assembled and well-prepared/cooked resulting in satiating, tasty dishes and all of them being beautiful gems to look at! Delicious wine and kombucha arrangements matching the courses. Point of attention: time between consecutive courses could have been shorter/sometimes waiting time was too long. Also, 1 of our courses was forgotten, which we then received together with one of the next following courses. Friendly staff. The industrial origins of the building merge well with a Scandinavian interior touch (reflecting the Finnish roots of the owner?) Definitely a place I would go back to and an experience I would recommend to anyone who appreciates fine-dining!🙂

Food great, location inside cozy, outside a mess and staff friendly until you ask for something to do. Then they are hateful and unreachable.

Excellent tastes and service. We went here in July last year and I wanted this to be my first google review because this is a place that really deserves to be experienced. Before I went, I asked about the menu ingredient because I don't drink alcohol and they explained one by one how they use it in which dishes. They told me that they could make my dishes without alcohol if I wanted. It was unique that they did that. Everything was perfect, I can't wait to be there again.

We went to Kasvio for dinner. Each course was exceptional, and the staff were both professional and friendly. It was hard to pick a favourite dish! Definitely worth the splurge.

Delicious food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff!

What a wonderful place. You can relax wonderfully in the inspiring location in, or perhaps just next to, the metal cathedral. No stress of choice, because you are simply presented with the chef's menu, completely plant-based but you don't miss the meat (or dairy). Each dish is a journey of discovery across your entire taste palette, introduced in a very entertaining way by the manager, who explains each dish in detail. The wines, kombucha, and maybe next time the Salmari contribute to the taste experience. Not for every week, but we will definitely come back.

Food was nice but the flow was not there. Long waiting time and no attention on what’s going on. Waited almost 40 mins for the last dessert.

WOW, this is a once-in-a-lifetime unforgettable experience. Dining at Kasvio simultaneously feels like you're in a Chef's Table episode and in somebody's home. Everything is perfectly curated, from the subtle instrumental music, to the menu case holding dried flowers, to the beverage arrangement that perfectly pairs a unique drink with each dish. There is thought behind everything that Kasvio does. The rye pierogi with sour cream and carrot tasted just like an incredibly elevated bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese. The rye malt ice cream is what you'd expect at a place that's so adventurous with flavor and texture, and yet it wildly caught me by surprise. The wait staff is an extension of the restaurant's values; they describe each dish to you with such care that you feel their deep reverence for the food. Be sure to leave enough time for this experience. Our dinner lasted 4 hours, which is the only proper way to enjoy this kind of food. Each dish is perfectly spaced out so that you leave the restaurant feeling full but in no way stuffed.

Very tasty food in this beautiful location. We had a choice and went for the chapel. Had fantastic seasonal plant-based dishes. With wine and Combucha package. Very friendly service with text and explanation in a very pleasant way, delicious dishes and beautiful location. The only downside was the cold in the chapel, which was not really pleasant due to the heater, but this was more than made up for by the food and service. Recommended

By bike to this beautiful location. Nice atmosphere. A chef's menu, plant-based and organic. At the table, every course is a surprise. A terrine of porcini mushrooms and chestnut mushrooms, horseradish foam, pickled with mustard seeds. An interesting Scandinavian mix that is actually impossible to box.

Onze dochter had dit restaurant geboekt voor ons voor lunch. Wij zijn niet veganistisch noch vegetarisch en Kasvio laat zien dat een veganistische kaart oprecht smakelijk kan zijn. Met de keuze van een regelmatig (dagelijks?) wisselend twee of drie-gangen (lunch)menu garanderen ze verse lokaal geproduceerde ingrediënten. Naast het menu heeft het restaurant een goede wijnkaart. Wij kozen ons menu met bijpassend wijn arrangement. Service, presentatie, smaak en kwaliteit van het gebodene was echt goed en lekker. Met een Finse keukenbrigade draagt Kasvio (= herbarium in het Fins) hun concept goed uit. Eén omweg waard

What struck us is that from the start, Kasvio has always managed to keep the level of the kitchen at the same level, if not improve it. Despite its popularity, no table has been added and the ambiance is still quiet and spacious. The fact that Kasvio holds on to her identity is not self-evident, but therefore all the more commendable. My wife and I have been eating plant-based for almost decades and have visited many restaurants both at home and abroad that have a so-called 'high end' plant-based cuisine. For us, Kasvio always stands out, mainly because of its quality, but also because of its accessibility and affordability compared to other places. All in all, nothing but praise (and the chefs and staff are requested to remain faithful to the concept). See you soon!

Delicious food! I've been wanting to eat here for a while and I'm very glad I went. The staff is very friendly and up for a chat. In addition to the great plant-based food, I also tried various types of kombucha. They even told me a lot about this. I found the atmosphere very soothing. We arrived there completely with a last-minute booking and enjoyed every moment. The dishes were masterfully made, and the pairing (wine and Kambucha) was spot on. The service was especially well done, and fit us as it was casual, personal, and warm. We had a lot of fun. We both think the meal was reasonably priced and even cheap for what you get. Kudos!

TL/DR: Cannot recommend enough! Book well in advance. Lovely location. Amazing, creative, and well balanced dishes. Choose the non-alcoholic Kombucha pairing! Lovely and attentive staff. ----- Situated in a beautiful cathedral, this lovely and beautifully decorated restaurant is an absolute marvel! There is a fun and creative garden to explore in the back as well. As a birthday gift to my mother I made a reservation for 2 for last Friday. I tried to make reservations for Saturday the week prior initially, but they were fully booked a week in advance! So plan your visit! As soon as you know you want to dine here make that reservation! We were very lucky to have been the first guests to arrive so we had the privilege of picking our table. One of the original cathedral's remnants, the Maria Chapel, is also part of the restaurant and consists of a secluded room with a table for 4, beautiful windows, and beautiful doors. Obviously we picked this location. We both picked the non-alcoholic Kombucha pairing and were so glad we did! The different and creative Kombuchas were complimenting the courses so, so well! I can put down a dish by dish review but that will both take quite some time and will make this a very long read. So instead I'll highlight some of our joys. Every dish was amazing, so it's hard to pick any one favorite. As our waiter asked us for our favorite when we left we couldn't really think of one, but back home while laying in bed every dish would come up with being the favorite but then the "oh, but this one was amazing as well! Or this one... or.." etc. What surprised us was the freshness of the prunes breaking through every now and then and how well that went with the rest of the beet salad. The mushrooms themselves were amazingly done as well and I'm absolutely going to try to recreate them as best as I can, which will probably only be disappointing anyway ;). The poached watermelon was a marvel as well! The right balance between savoury and that iconic watermelon sweetness while also having a great "chewing structure" and a lovely pistachio coating. Surprisingly pairing incredibly well with samphire (zeekraal) and the incredibly creamy jalapeñosauce. My mom usually eats anything without trouble, the only thing she absolutely hates is pearled barley however she absolutely enjoyed them in the zucchini involtini! The tempeh was delicious as well and the (Dutch) green beans too were masterfully prepared; fresh, sweet, and a juicy crisp. We both also enjoyed the hazelnutsauce since it was very flavourful but in no way dominating. The finger lime seeds on the cucumber sorbet was such a "ooooh! Aaaah! Wow!" moment for us. We never heard it before and it made it feel so special. The seeds, that look like some sort of translucent Caviar, are such flavor bombs! They gave a special "pow" to the otherwise "tame" flavors of the cucumber sorbet, even though the basil oil gave a well placed kick too. After our main dessert, which was amazing too btw, we were surprised with a some boterkoek! Which was amazing since I haven't had it since I went vegan which is years ago. Seeing my surprise the waiter told me they would come back and bring some more, so I expected 2 bites but they came back with a full small plate! Amazing! I can go on and on about the food but it's best if you just book a table and go experience this yourself! I also want to add that we felt very well cared for by our attentive and enthusiastic waiter who was willing to explain everything and had no trouble checking things with the kitchen if they didn't know. Also very kind to go to the trouble to take a picture of me and my mom together, very much appreciated! During the dinner my mom and I discussed plans for a future visit which hopefully, and sadly, will be sometime next year. We're looking forward to experiencing their creativity and hospitality again!

Hay un jardín divertido y creativo para explorar en la parte trasera también. Como regalo de cumpleaños a mi madre hice una reserva para 2 para el viernes pasado. Intenté hacer reservas para el sábado de la semana anterior inicialmente, pero se reservaron con una semana de antelación! ¡Planifica tu visita! En cuanto sepas que quieres cenar aquí haz esa reserva! Tuvimos mucha suerte de haber sido los primeros huéspedes en llegar, así que tuvimos el privilegio de elegir nuestra mesa. Uno de los restos originales de la catedral, la Capilla María, también forma parte del restaurante y consta de una habitación aislada con una mesa para 4 , hermosos ventanales, y hermosas puertas. Obviamente elegimos este lugar. Ambos elegimos el maridaje Kombucha sin alcohol y nos alegramos mucho de haberlo hecho! Los diferentes y creativos Kombuchas estaban complementando los cursos tan, tan bien! Puedo dejar un plato por plato de revisión, pero eso llevará bastante tiempo y hará que esta sea una lectura muy larga. Así que en su lugar destacaré algunas de nuestras alegrías. Cada plato era increíble, así que es difícil elegir uno de los favoritos. Como nuestro camarero nos preguntó por nuestro favorito cuando nos fuimos no podíamos pensar en uno, pero en casa mientras estaba acostado en la cama cada plato salía con ser el favorito, pero luego el "oh, pero este era increíble también! O éste... o... etc. Lo que nos sorprendió fue la frescura de las ciruelas pasándolas de vez en cuando y lo bien que iba con el resto de la ensalada de remolacha. Las setas en sí se hicieron increíblemente bien y voy a tratar absolutamente de recrearlas lo mejor que pueda, que probablemente solo será decepcionante de todos modos ; ) . La sandía escalfada era una maravilla también! El equilibrio adecuado entre lo salado y ese icónico dulzor de sandía, además de tener una gran "estructura de masticación" y una encantadora capa de pistacho. Sorprendentemente combina increíblemente bien con samphire (zeekraal) y el increíblemente cremoso jalapeñosauce. Mi mamá suele comer cualquier cosa sin problemas, lo único que odia absolutamente es la cebada perlada sin embargo, ¡los disfrutó absolutamente en los involtini de calabacín! El tempeh también estaba delicioso y los frijoles verdes (holandeses) también se prepararon magistralmente; frescos, dulces y jugosos crujientes. Ambos disfrutamos también de la salsa de avellanas ya que era muy sabrosa pero de ninguna manera dominante. Las semillas de lima de los dedos en el sorbete de pepino era un "ooooh! ¡Aaaah! Wow!" momento para nosotros. Nunca lo habíamos escuchado antes y lo hizo sentir tan especial. Las semillas, que parecen una especie de caviar translúcido, son bombas de sabor! Le dieron un toque especial a los sabores "domados" del sorbete de pepino, a pesar de que el aceite de albahaca también dio una patada bien colocada. Después de nuestro postre principal, que era increíble demasiado btw, nos sorprendió con un poco de boterkoek! Lo cual fue increíble ya que no lo he tenido desde que me hice vegano, que es hace años. Al ver mi sorpresa el camarero me dijo que volverían y traerían algunos más, así que esperaba 2 bocados, pero volvieron con un plato pequeño lleno! ¡Increíble! Puedo seguir y seguir sobre la comida, pero lo mejor es reservar una mesa y experimentar esto usted mismo! Last night we had a perfect dinner here in the garden outside. The place is a little bit hidden but when you find it, you're up for a treat. Staff is super friendly and they know their flavours. Drinks are paired perfectly with the food. I'm not a wine/kombucha guy. So I asked the waiter if he could pair some beers. He happily accepted the challenge and the beers paired superb with the food. The food itself was also super flavourfull. And ambience of the restaurant itself is really nice.

Unfortunately, nobody came to our table to take an order on the Kasvio terrace this afternoon. We waited 20 minutes and then left. We felt simply ignored by the staff. It was not crowded or anything. It does not cost that much effort and time to say hi and pass the menu.

Ate several times. I treated a group of non-vegans to lunch for my birthday. We had a great afternoon and a delicious meal. In terms of atmosphere, the decor is a bit too minimalist for me, but that is taste and the food and company are the most important. Definitely come back.

What an absolute treat to be able to enjoy perfectly crafted innovative vegan food that looked beautiful and tasted delicious! I treat my son to the summer tasting menu and we enjoyed every mouthful. Reading the menu beforehand perhaps we weren't anticipating it to be as delicious as it was but who new poached watermelon could be such a turn around tasting and looking so different. Every dish was both a surprise and delight. Friendly service explained every course. An absolute bonus to be able to enjoy dinner outside in the beautiful garden setting on a perfect summer's evening.

Probably the best vegan experience I have had in Utrecht so far. Every dish was perfectly balanced and paired to perfection by their homemade kombucha. The team was also very friendly and the location (Metaal Kathedral) a must see. Menu was: - Buckwheat blinis with carrot tartar (fermented with Koji) and sour cream - Green and white asparagus, Dutch beans, almond cream, asparagus bouillon, young potatoes, foraged pesto - Amadeus sourdough - Caesar salad - Rhubarb sorbet, rosemary crumble, white chocolate, elderflower mousse And the kombucha pairings were, in order: blueberry-juniper berry sencha; apple-rosemary daarjeeling; mandarin-fennel. A wonderful experience. Tasty and beautifully designed dishes with surprising and good wines. There are also good options without alcohol. And everything vegan! Service was attentive and not too formal.

Very attractive tent at the rear of the Metal Cathedral between the rough bare walls and high ceilings of the former cathedral. The food is quite alternative vegetarian vegan which I enjoyed, but that was difficult for the older generation ;-) The service was very friendly and excellent, but; We had to wait a long time several times and 2 of us were served with food from one course and the other 3 had to wait more than half an hour for their order, so the 'flow' was completely gone (especially with a child - dessert situation). Something went wrong in the kitchen or with staff, it can happen. But they should have at least informed us about this immediately and also discussed how to approach it according to our wishes. Still a very nice afternoon!

Fantastic food, top staff and overall a nice experience. Very nice location that is practically accessible from the A2. My only quibble is that there is only one toilet.

Had a delicious meal here, quite an experience. Everything is plant-based, and you can choose a kombucha arrangement, for example. Very well cared for, nice service who talked about the food. And the location is really nice! The four of us sat in the chapel which was very nice. Oh, and pay attention to the Walkman in the toilet 😎.

Everything at Kasvio was perfect! The food is extremely creative novel and still balanced, the service is attentive but not intrusive. We had the low alcoholic pairing, which was also spot-on with all kinds of combucha pairings and some natural wine and local beer. We will come back!

We found the restaurant through "Happy Cow". Fantastic vegan food as “fine dining” with a very attentive staff and a nice ambience. It was a really great experience. I don't think I've ever eaten so well!!! The only criticism would be the toilet, which is very cramped and somewhat reminiscent of "camping". But you can forget that with an otherwise completely successful concept 😉. We will be back!

Verrassende gerechten, heerlijke umami smaken in mooie combi's. De lichte vegan-scepsis van mijn tafelgenoot zag ik als sneeuw voor de zon verdwijnen achter een hele enthousiaste blik. :-) Hele ontspannen sfeer en zeer vriendelijke bediening. Echt heerlijk gegeten!

Hele bijzondere gerechten met smaken die goed bij elkaar passen De bediening is heel attent, vriendelijk en heeft echt verstand van de producten en wijnen. Zou dit zeker aanbevelen! Ook aan niet veganisten en 'echte vleeseters'. Wij komen terug in het nieuwe seizoen voor het volgende menu!

Niet te omschrijven plek in een oude kerk. Je zou er zo voorbij rijden. Gewoon stoelen en tafels in oude vervallen ruimte met toch prachtige sfeer. Ontzettend aardige bediening die weten waarover ze het hebben. Mooie smaakvolle gerechten met spannende smaakcombinaties. Aanbevolen.

Tunnelmallinen ravintola Utrechtin laidalla, jossa pelaa sekä palvelu että ruokaa. Tulimme lounasaikaan, mutta maut silti olivat kohdillaan ja hyvin tasapainotetut. Ravintola otti huomioon myös allergeenit, joista mainitsimme erikseen. Plussaa erinomaisen tarjoilijan työstä, joka oli paitsi ystävällinen ja osasi suositella juomia ruokien kanssa. 10/10.

Beautiful little place with completely vegan menu. Creative courses, all ingredients locally and seasonally sourced, absolutely delicious. Much love in every course and exciting combinations I have not tried like this before. Lovely fitting wines with the five courses (plus additional appetizer and bread with almond butter). Chic and cozy atmosphere at once. Lovely and super comforting team at the bar/service and in the kitchen. More than reasonably priced for what you get served. Come early, stay long, feel fancy and at home simultaneously at this gem in a green idyll at the outskirts of Utrecht.

Heerlijk geluncht. Keuze uit 2, 3 of 4 gangen. Vriendelijk personeel, fijne sfeer en erg smaakvolle en mooie gerechten. De eetbare bloemen als finishing touch op het gerecht en de munt voor de thee werden vers uit de tuin geplukt. Een aanrader!

Kasvio was a wonderful surprise for me and my partner. The food was delicious and unique and I really enjoyed the atmosphere there and the vibe of the people working. As a queer trans couple we felt very welcome and were able relax and simply enjoy ourselves. The atmosphere continues to improve with additions to the interior and seating arrangements amongst other things. However, that being said it doesn’t detach too far from the open-community anarcho-esque aesthetic that feels as the ethical core of Kasvio and this is a wonderful balance they seem to be hitting well. I love the simplicity of the menu and look forward to visiting atleast once each season for the new menu. Finally as someone who doesn’t drink alcohol the home made kombucha to match with the courses is truly wonderful and greatly appreciated. As the business grows and they find their rhythm Im sure what the overall service and experience will continue to improve. I look forward to future visits.

We loved the food and the friendliness of the staff very much! Also grateful that they let us dine even though it was quite full and we didn’t have a reservation. I put 4 stars because the portions were too small - we had to eat quite some bread to get full; and most of all because our dinner was extremely long, I think about 3h. Also the concept is great, but you only know the price and the menu after you were served the drinks so in case if that’s not what you want you can’t really leave anymore. So it didn’t work very well for us, however if you eat little and want to have a long dinner - it’s a great place to go!

Heerlijk gegeten bij Kasvio. Verrassend nieuwe smaken en verfijnde gerechtjes. Elke hap is weer een nieuwe ontdekking. Ook weer kennis gemaakt met nieuwe smaken. Per gerecht wordt daarnaast door de kundige en vriendelijke bediening uitgelegd wat er geserveerd wordt. Persoonlijk draagt dat voor mij ook bij aan de positieve ervaring en de fine sfeer. Daarnaast lekker lang kunnen tafelen. Absoluut een aanrader en we komen zeker terug als we weer eens in Utrecht zijn.

Excellent vegan (casual fine dining) restaurant. You can clearly see the effort put into the food & taste it in each dish. Wines can be replaced with Kombucha fermented on site ❤️ Very nice atmosphere during summer in the backyard. Will absolutely visit again.

Excellent vegan ‘casual’ fine dining. The menu was put together extremely well, we choose to match their home-made Kombucha arrangement with our dinner and that was a great choice! 🍹 Super interesting flavours in the courses and the details were extremely well taken care of in the dishes. We hebben echt heerlijk gegeten. Bij Kasvio is eten echt een ervaring, heel veel smaken, en dat allemaal biologisch, vegan en seizoensgebonden.

Viergangen lunch van vijf sterren niveau. Goed doordacht, goed bereid en plezierig uitgeserveerd. Prikkelende amuse en goeie koffie.

Bijzondere ervaring. Elk gerecht is heel uniek en met zorg bereid. Klasse bediening.

Mooie pure keuken met veel aandacht voor de opmaak en smaak. Super vriendelijke bediening. Goede prijs-kwaliteitsverhouding. Geweldige lokatie. Ben je in Utrecht dan is dit restaurant zeker de moeite waard om even de stad uit te gaan en rustig te genieten van het eten met een mooie wijn of zelf gemaakte kombucha.

We had an amazing experience here! The location is very unique and the staff was very friendly. We had a 5-course dinner, the food was really good. There were so many different flavours and textures that we really appreciated. Also the homemade kombucha paired really well with the courses. I highly recommend it!

We hadden een 5 gangen menu met wijn pairing. De wijnen uit koele klimaten sluiten goed aan bij het veganistische eten. De bediening is erg vriendelijk en we kregen een kombucha proeverij. Het was een hele leuke ervaring die ik iedereen zou aanraden.

Gisteren mijn zus getrakteerd op een etentje bij Kasvio. Superlekker gegeten! We hadden het 5 gangendiner, ieder gerecht was heel smaakvol en zag er schitterend uit! Alles met aandacht en passie voor het vak gemaakt. Fijne mensen en er heerst een rustige warme sfeer in het restaurant. Ook niet onbelangrijk, heerlijke koffie! Zeker een plek om naar terug te komen! De volle 5 sterren ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ meer dan waard!
