Every time I eat here I am impressed again, the food is fantastic every time, and I don't have that very often in restaurants... it always looks incredibly beautiful, the atmosphere in the restaurant is sweet and relaxed and cozy, and the price-quality is really very good

Had a delicious meal here yesterday. Really at a good level, with surprising combinations, well prepared, and attention to the small details on the plate. The design of a simple coffee shop does not quite match the high quality of the food. Recommended!

Ziet er van buiten shabby en viezig uit. Aftands terras, nergens aangeveegd, oude vieze tonnen. Dit zegt iets over de totale hygiëne. Eten was ok. Kleine porties

Really delicious food, creative and original menu. The portions were large so we went home rolling, but I really wouldn't have missed the carrot orange cardamom cake. The homemade kombucha is honestly the tastiest kombucha I have ever tasted. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable. You can see in everything that this restaurant is run with love. We will definitely come back!

Nice, small restaurant where they serve delicious, plant-based dishes for a great price. The celeriac with pepper sauce was delicious. Dishes are beautifully prepared and the taste is great.

We live nearby and regularly come for dinner with our family. Cozy and relaxed atmosphere and new surprising dishes on the menu every few months.

Excellent food and a nice menu for vegetarians. We had the curry and the cauliflower, quite fine, but nothing special. The wait for the service took a very long time and I thought the prices were a bit high. The first time I ate here, I was a lot more enthusiastic.

NOT for people with celiac disease due to high risk of cross-contamination. Unfortunately, despite what is written on the menu, the dishes are not gluten-free because they are not prepared gluten-free. So I wasn't able to taste much of the food. The staff was very friendly and tried to help. But they didn't come with more than a salad and Rosti. NOT celiac friendly! (Despite what the menus say: not gluten-free)

The food is delicious and flavorful. The menu is inventive. The desserts are delicious. I had the best vegan cheese cake there: it’s was sweet and creamy. The place is small so make a reservation.

A really great place where you can eat in peace. Nice living room atmosphere and the food is really great. There has just been a new menu and the fried eggplant from the starters is highly recommended, oh yes and also the cherry cheese cake.

This is a vegan restaurant, not something you find very often. The dishes were beautifully presented, very creatively made and it was a great pleasure having a meal here - even my meat-loving friends who accompanied me were happy with their meal. The portions were good e.g. my Georgian walnut and eggplant rolls with coconut dahl and delicious sweet potato fries made out a huge meal for me, and the home made vegan patisserie was to die for. We have come to expect meat to be the most expensive ingredient of a dish, and may consequently expect prices for vegan meals to be in the lower end, but so much work goes into prepare these kinds of dishes and so many vegetables - and it is totally worth the price at VanPlanten. The location is only a few bus stops away from the Central Station.

Excellent. One of the best vegan restaurants I've been to. Doesn't seem special from the outside, so it was a great surprise to experience their sophisticated dishes.

Super nice restaurant where you can enjoy delicious food. The red tomcat that lives there is of course a plus. Van Planten is not really on the route if you are in the center of Utrecht, but it is definitely worth going out on the other side of the station.

I was eating the first time here. I had really high hopes, but I was a bit dissapointed. Fist of all, the staff was talking between themselves a lot and did not really pay attention to us. Secondly the food was pretty average. The king oyster starter was really good but the mains were just ok. We got the galette and the aubergine rolls. None of them had anything special, the curry was very basic and not that flavourful. I was expected a more elevated/interesting take to these dishes. Also because the prices are pretty high.

A hidden gem! It is a great vegan restaurant wherein the profits go to good causes. There is some high-level cooking involved and often works with biological and local products. The winecard is nice as well as the biological beers. It is somewhat outside of the centre so it is easy to park there

After hearing a few good stories about this place, we decided to have dinner here being a great fan of the creative potential of pure vegan food. To be honest, we were a little disappointed about restaurant Van Planten. Out of the three main dinner options we had the 'Mediterraans deelplateaux', hoping we would be tasting a variety of nice, small vegetarian bites that would be a representative of the restaurants vegan specialities. We received grilled vegetables, olives, three dips, some fried cannelloni and bread. Although the quality of the food was okayish, there was really nothing special about this platter, especially considering is was a main dish for 15.95 pp. We also ordered some white wine and although the (new?) staff was friendly, they clearly had no idea what type the wine served in the restaurant came from. I consider myself a quite flexible wine lover and I can appreciate both cheaper and more costly good wines, but I really had an untasty Sauvignon Blanc, that took me much effort to finish. This place is not for me I guess 😅

Excellent food. With our table we just ordered everything from the menu once and shared it with each other. Everything tasted amazing.

Met zijn zessen echt heerlijk gegeten: drie mooie gangen die goed getimed waren, stuk voor stuk mooie gerechten om te zien en zeer smaakvol. Daarbij vriendelijke en vlotte bediening, ontspannen sfeer in het restaurant. Kortom een geslaagde avond!

Het eten was heerlijk en creatief, en het was er gezellig. Lekkere slagroom ook. Het eten was niet super vullend, misschien omdat mijn hoofdgerecht niet echt een obvious eiwit-component bevatte, maar dat is niet met alle hoofdgerechten het geval want mijn vriend had wel tempeh. Maar in mijn geval zat ik na het toetje alsnog wel vol.

We hebben van onze (h)eerlijke zomeravondmaaltijden genoten op het terras. Vlot en vriendelijk bediend. Prima ervaring. Zoals de naam aangeeft: een veganistische keuken en extra duurzaam door de inrichting met behulp van hergebruikt materiaal.

Zeer vriendelijk ontvangen. Snel gekozen voor drie gangen menu. Shii-takes met geroosterde meloen als voorgerecht; heerlijke en bijzondere combinatie. Als hoofdgerecht de mini rijsttafel: ook heerlijk en compleet. Als toetje het Indiase ijs; ook een aanrader. Kortom heerlijk gegeten. Mensen aldaar ook erg prettig. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar.

Mijn go to restaurantje in Utrecht. Ben hier nog nooit teleurgesteld.

Leuke plek, heerlijk eten en een voorbeeld hoe je gewoon lekker kan eten zonder dierlijke producten. Prachtige opmaak van de borden en heerlijk eten. Super dat alle winst naar dierenwelzijnsorganisaties gaat!

I’ve become a regular at this place and it’s for a reason: the menu changes every few weeks and the dishes are always so intriguing and unique! The three course menu costs 33.50€ and you can choose from 3 of each: starter, main, dessert. There are also three side dishes available at an extra cost. All in all: 5 stars. The service is always super friendly, the atmosphere is quiet and not rushed but most importantly: the food is delicious and filling. Also make sure to try their homemade kombucha!

Ik waardeer de creativiteit wat de keuken in hun menu stopt en super tof dat alles veganistisch is en er een progressieve, inclusieve sfeer hangt maar het eten is wmb te wisselvallig qua smaakervaring. Dan weer is het top en het andere moment wordt je toch teleurgesteld. Ik vind het jammer dat ik weleens gedacht heb 'dit had ik thuis beter gekund.' Maar in the end is het zeker de moeite waard en zal smaak altijd verschillen.

Seit langem mal ein richtig gutes veganes Essen. Sehr lecker, nicht aufgesetzt, einfach gut gemachtes Essen. Der Nachtisch ein Gedicht.Muss diese Woche deswegen wieder mehr Sport machen. Sehr freundliches Personal, insgesamt gute Stimmung untereinander. Vielen Dank für den schönen Abend!
