I wish everything from food was Italian, including all the desserts, since this is an Italian restaurant. But overall, it's a great place to eat.

WOW, just wow. Everything was so perfect. We went here for dinner with my boyfriend. They really catered to our wishes (we were in a romantically secluded spot). The service, friendliness, food, and dessert were all so perfect. We'll definitely be back. I recommend it to everyone ❤️

Unfortunately, David's is far too expensive, and the dishes are nothing special. The filet di manzo is tasteless, and the pasta is overly plentiful. The prices are out of proportion, and the staff is too busy to create a pleasant atmosphere. I expected more. There are many other restaurants I would recommend before going to David's.

Last Thursday, I was here with a few colleagues. We received a friendly welcome, and the owner even came to say hello. The food was delicious. We had smoked salmon as a starter, a delicious rosefish fillet, and chocolate mousse for dessert. Highly recommended if you're in Utrecht!

Super nice restaurant, takes you straight to Italy

Some of the best Italian food I have had. Really friendly staff. Will definitely come back if I visit Utrecht again.

We were taken to this Italian restaurant. Dining in a wharf cellar is always special—especially for someone not from Utrecht—and that's certainly true here. The restaurant turned out to be enormous, giving it a somewhat crowded feel. The tables are beautifully laid with white linens, the chairs are comfortable, and the service is a bit hurried but friendly. The vegetarian options are unfortunately quite limited, with about two choices per course, and not very surprising: tomato soup, burrata salad, ricotta pasta, truffle pasta, melanzane…. A shame, because Italian cuisine offers so many possibilities for vegetarian dishes. The food is delicious, but seriously overpriced. The tomato soup, for example, cost €16.50, and the burrata "salad" (which is nothing more than a small ball of burrata cheese on a minimal bed of greens, two cherry tomatoes, and a bit of balsamic glaze) was almost €20. The wines are also quite expensive, starting at €40 a bottle. Everything was delicious, but at these prices, I actually expected a bit more. Hence the 3 stars; aside from the location, it's simply not that special.

We had a fantastic meal at Cantina di David! The tagliatelle tartufo and the chocolate mousse for dessert were both delicious. The service was also super friendly. Highly recommended for anyone who loves good Italian food!

If you come here you'll never regret

An amazing place but it felt kind of empty, the staff was over attentive, the food was good but lacked a convincing flavour and the pasta was a bit on the raw side. The glass of wine was from a couple of days ago. That’s fine but not for the price we paid. This place needs to lower the price or step up to the next level or it’s game over.

We had a delicious pasta meal with excellent wines. We sat in a charming setting under parasols by the canal, where boats occasionally sailed by. The service was super friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

Excellent location on the canal, with a splendid restaurant inside. The main courses are well-presented and flavorful (the fillet was cooked incorrectly), while the first courses are much less so. The service is tight, essential, but orderly. In any case, highly recommended!

The ambiance was above average, as it was located by the water, and the tables were set quite romantically. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, other waiters came uninvited, apparently lost track of who was being served by whom. They were unmotivated and listless. The food was well below average for the price (all dishes around €28-30). The taglitelle was lukewarm. None of the dishes even remotely resembled the pictures on the website. The chocolate mousse had been prepared hours ago and looked stale and dreary. Unfortunately, there was a hint of tourist trash all around.

The taste of the food was fine and the wine we selected was great, but the kitchen seems stuck in the '90's when it comes to presentation and the prices are ridiculous. The marinated raw swordfish was hidden under a bush of fennel and I got 1,5 potato with the main course, while it's prominently mentioned on the menu. Only recommended if you've got money to burn and have a stomach the size of a walnut.

We had a fantastic family dinner at this place yesterday. Sitting outside on the canal side and , though inside was beautiful as well. Food tasted very good, each dish was made differently and presented nicely. The staff was very good and made our dining experience better.

A wonderful spot for a balmy summer evening in Utrecht! Enjoyed the food and everyone who sailed by. The seating is lovely, outside on the old canal. Delicious food. It's in the city center, but away from the hustle and bustle. It's about a 15-minute walk from Central Station, opposite the Pathé cinema.

We recently dined at Cantina di David. The restaurant is beautifully situated on the waterfront and has a charming atmosphere. We were given a table right at the end of the terrace, which initially seemed nice, but unfortunately proved impractical. All incoming guests had to walk right past us, often within touching distance, which was very unsettling. Moreover, we were seated so close to the table behind us that we could literally hear their entire conversation. This made it difficult to truly relax and eat. The staff was friendly, but the service left much to be desired. We had to wait over 30 minutes for a menu, and then another 45 minutes to an hour for our food. That's simply too long, especially without any explanation or attention in between. When we paid, we gave cash, to which the waitress thanked us and wished us a pleasant evening, but she didn't return with the 23 euros in change. It was as if it was automatically considered a tip. And that didn't feel right. We normally always tip as a token of appreciation, but in this case, we didn't. And especially not if it's held without permission. In short: a beautiful location, but too cramped, noisy, and disorganized. A shame, because with better service and attention to guests, this could be a much better experience.

What a delicious meal we had again! How nice that Chef Ayt even came to our table and created a surprise dessert especially for us.

Upon entering a scowling waitress greeted us by telling us the kitchen closes in 15 minutes. We should have left then. Because of the perfect location on the canal we stayed. The lamb was nicely presented but was over cooked. Ravioli in a cream sauce was ordinary. The wine server was pleasant. When we left tables we still being served. Not an experience to be repeated.

Way too expensive and the food wasn't worth it. I'd eaten here before, but this time it was really mediocre. A shame.

Very nice place on the canal with delicious food and good service

Eaten here more often in the past years and the last times were a disappointment. Last Sunday we ate with 4 people. We had to ask for napkins and got paper white napkins. Tagliatelli without vegetables only some truffle sauce! Then a steak for 2 people for 105 euros which was far too little for 2 people. Then chocolate mousse for 14.90 consisting of small tufts. The Brazilian waiter made up for a lot but the food was a disgrace! What a disappointment.

Had a great experience at Cantina di David last Friday night. We really enjoyed the delicious food. As a starter we shared the pinsa with spinach ricotta and truffle. We also had a bottle of rosé, I forgot the name but a nice light rosé. As a main course I had the pasta bolognese with wagyu meat, this is really the best bolognese I have eaten in a long time. My boyfriend had the lobster bisque, there was a bit too little lobster in it but it was tasty he said. For dessert we shared a tiramisu and we both had a glass of meloncello, this is very tasty if you like a kind of baileys and melon. Because of our anniversary we got a firework with it, that was a pleasant surprise. The location on the water is really beautiful and atmospheric. We will definitely come back here (when we have saved up some more 😋)

Disappointing experience, poor communication, and mismanagement. Would not return. TLDR: A frustrating dinner that was completely eclipsed the following night by a far superior experience just 500m away at San Siro — authentic Italian food, exceptional service, better wine, and significantly better value. There, we had two starters, two mains, a dessert, a bottle of wine, two waters, and two limoncellos — for less than what we paid here for a shared starter and one bottle of wine. What started as a pleasant evening quickly turned into a disappointing experience due to poor communication and weak management. Our server was courteous and clearly trying his best. He should not be blamed. The fault lies in a failure of training and communication between the kitchen, service team, and management. We ordered a bottle of wine, a bottle of water, veal carpaccio, and a Tomahawk steak for two with seasonal vegetables. Wine: Good, needed airing. Initially told there was no decanter, but the waiter persisted and found one — unfortunately, it arrived dusty and with a dead insect inside. Disappointing. Veal Carpaccio: Very good quality and presentation — no complaints — but it took over 30 minutes to arrive. Tomahawk Steak for Two: The main issue. We had discussed in detail how we wanted it cooked (medium), asked about the bone, size, thickness, etc., and were assured of what we were ordering. What arrived was pre-sliced steak, covered in sauce (possibly Béarnaise), no bone in sight, and most of the meat was rare to blue — barely edible apart from a few end pieces. When we questioned where the Tomahawk bone was, the server (clearly surprised) checked and returned with a colleague who casually told us, “Oh yeah, we’re out of Tomahawk so you got this one instead.” At no point were we told the item we ordered wasn’t available, nor given a chance to change or cancel. They just substituted it without warning, which is unacceptable. We were also offered to have it "re-cooked", but how? It was sliced and sauced already. The vegetables were undercooked and clearly not roasted as described. The manager’s response made it worse. Rather than acknowledge the issue or take responsibility, she tried to get us to order something else and blamed the new waiter, saying he "didn't know what he was doing." In contrast, we found him professional, diligent, and the only person who seemed to care. We paid for what we had consumed and left, feeling disappointed and frustrated by the lack of professionalism and poor handling of a situation that could have been easily avoided. In short: This restaurant failed on transparency, communication, and accountability. There are far better experiences just minutes away — including San Siro, which delivered everything this venue lacked: honesty, skill, value, and hospitality.

Am very disappointed, waitress not at all customer friendly after waiting for fifteen minutes we got up. There was no attention at all we expected at least that they could ask if we wanted to have a drink with a temperature of 33 ° outside. And no it was not busy!

Tourist trap. After 50 min waiting we reminded about our order: 105 Euro COSTATA DI MANZO ALLA BRACE medium cooked. It arrived blue (meaning very raw) and already cut (it should be cut off the bone in front of the guest). They took the plate and came back after 10 minutes with slightly improved results. We wanted to leave but at this point we were very hungry so we gave it another try. It wan not good. Also the accompanying served vegetables were not good. They offered limoncello, they came with meloncello. A disappointing experience at every point. Look at the pictures and see it for yourself. Even the simplest things like salt or pepper looked bad, in a place they call it a fine dining place. This is definitely NOT a fine dining place! Please be aware! The only positive thing I can mention that it looks nice from the outside and inside. Service was stressed. And not polite to customers.

But your reply only confirmed how poorly you treat your guests. You claimed I arrived at 18:30, but I have a photo taken inside your restaurant before that time—from my own phone. So please explain how I managed to take a photo inside your restaurant before 18:30 if I hadn’t even arrived yet. That alone shows your version of the story is NOT accurate. Let’s also talk about the complete lack of hospitality. Not a single smile or warm greeting from your staff. I raised my hand to call the waiter twice, and she clearly saw me and ignored me. That behavior made me feel UNWELCOME and UNCOMFORTABLE right from the start. You also spoke as if your restaurant is the only fine dining place in the world, and it felt like you were trying to teach me how to act. Let me be clear, I’ve been to many high professional restaurants, and not one of them treated me the way you did. The issue here is not the type of restaurant, it’s your ATTITUDE toward your guests. Your comment about us ordering non-alcoholic drinks was unnecessary and inappropriate. Why did you even mention it? That detail had nothing to do with the situation, but it made me feel judged, especially as a visibly Muslim woman wearing a hijab. That felt DISCRIMINATORY. Then there’s your comment about me taking pictures for Instagram. Why are you monitoring how I spend my time at the table? It’s none of your business. As long as I wasn’t disturbing anyone, you had no right to interfere. A professional restaurant respects its customers’ PRIVACY. You also condescendingly mentioned that we were “very young.” For the record, I’m 29 years old. But even if I were younger, age should never be a reason to treat a customer with less RESPECT. Finally, your statement that “if you do this way, you are nowhere welcome” is simply outrageous. NO RESPECTFUL BUSINESS speaks to a customer like that. I actually deleted my review at first and decided to stay quiet. But after reading your arrogant, defensive, and honestly insulting reply, I realized I shouldn’t remain silent. People deserve to know the truth about how you treat your guests. Actually, we never told you that we ate at another restaurant. All we said was that we ate, without mentioning anything else. There’s no need to invent details that aren’t true. It’s clear that you don’t care about how you treat your customers. If this were a classy and upscale restaurant, you would have apologized and called it a misunderstanding. But the level of service says it all. The truffle pasta was delicious.

If you want to teleport to Italy in Utrecht, you are at the right place. The entire menu, from appetizers to main courses, has been carefully prepared and each ingredient has been exported from Italy. It was a unique experience for me, my wife and my friends. Ridiculous. Sat for 2 hours, in that time only had a starter and 1 round of drinks. Looking for attention from the staff to order more drinks "I'll be with you soon" never seen again. Really incredibly bad service, the food was bad and not worth it at all. The special pasta with truffle was pasta with cream without taste and a little grated truffle. The only positive is the decor which is cozy. Anyone who likes good culinary food and a cozy evening with good service should not come here.

Honestly the worst service I have ever experienced in Utrecht. Staff is rude and the waiting time was absurd. Had to wait more than 35 minutes before water was even put on the table. When we finally got the bread we ordered after an hour, it was burnt and not cooked on the inside. In addition, the dishes were not clean. My boyfriend and I went to La Cantina Di David for the first time today. Nice location, beautiful interior, nice atmosphere, the staff was very friendly and the food was great! My compliments to the young man who received and served us upon arrival! Good service and after our dinner we received a delicious cup of coffee on the house!

The food was very nice, great flavours and the dishes were aesthetically pleasing. I enjoyed every dish, such as the steak, the pasta, the vegetables. But it is very very pricey, which is Understandable seeing as the restaurant is in a very touristy and popular area in Utrecht.

What an incredibly bad experience. I was sore from eating all evening. My pasta was also undercooked. That's basic. I was shocked when I received the bill. The two of us are 200 euros poorer and our stomachs are richer.

Esperó otros 20 minutos y la comida llegó todavía No vino y tuvimos que pedirlo dos veces. La comida era buena. No lo suficientemente caliente pero sabroso.

Ik ben het helemaal eens met veel andere beoordelingen: het eten is zeker van goede kwaliteit, maar wel echt prijzig. Hierdoor hebben we minder gegeten dan we normaal in een restaurant doen. De ravioli die ik had was wel erg goed gemaakt. Een tegenvaller was dat, nadat we niet het groepsmenu van €80 hadden gekozen, wel door het restaurant werd voorgesteld om een borrelplank te nemen als voorafje. We kregen twee goed gevulde borrelplanken, maar kwamen er op de bon achter dat dit €100 per plank was… dat was niet nodig geweest. De planken werden ook al opgehaald voordat ze leeg waren. Als je van luxer eten op een leuke locatie houdt, dan is het vast prima. Voor mij was het persoonlijk niet voor herhaling vatbaar.

Nice Italian restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere, although most of the tables are close together. Good service. Value for money a little expensive. The vongole spaghetti and the lobster spaghetti were al dente and generous but lacked flavor. The tiramisu is good but small and very expensive. Hot red wine because they don't keep it in the wine cellar. A serious failure in this type of establishment.

Weer eens een keer heerlijk gegeten daar, de keuken is dik in orde. De bediening liet helaas te wensen over. Kreeg maar geen contact om een aperitief te bestellen, omdat onze kelnerin te druk was met bekenden en haar telefoon. En we hadden nog wel wat te vieren. Daardoor liepen de wijnen en gerechten niet meer met elkaar in de pas. Tweede glaasje bestellen lukte ook al niet. Toen ik dat bij het afrekenen melde werd er nogal een punt van gemaakt door de persoon in kwestie. Leek me geen goed idee in een vol restaurant, dus we zijn maar gegaan. Heel jammer.

Fantastic Italian restaurant. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The ambience is perfect for an evening meal with friends or loved ones. The menu and the wine selection is great.

Food was good but the service was downright bad. You have to continuously do your best to get someone's attention to be able to order anything at all. The acoustics were also terrible so that you could hardly hear each other. At least that was the case where we were. In short, not a relaxing evening out for dinner, while the prices are high.

Awesome Italian food in the heart of Utrecht. Taste of everything was out of this world. We had Osso Buco and Tagliatelle with Tartuffo Mushrooms, both were amazing. Staff was attentive, kind, and smiling. The atmosphere was also excellent. Absolutely recommend and definitely will come back again.

Recommended by local to this restaurant. We came early and was the first group of customer. Grand interior deco actually perfect for date night or special occasions. Waitresses were very hospitable and friendly. Ordered truffle pasta and oyster pasta. Pasta was al dente. For the oyster pasta, it works really well with the crumbs that toasted in butter. Have a good balance between creamy oyster and buttery crispiness. Would love to be back to try other dishes as well.

We waited more than half an hour after our main course for someone to come and then walked up to a waiter and asked for the bill. It's a shame if you have such a beautiful restaurant.

I do not understand why this restaurant should be Fine Dining, as it is certainly not as delicate as you would expect with such a name. The food in general is delicious but "simple". Service is chaotic and unorganized, the atmosphere is loud and tables are cramped together to fit in as many coverts as possible. To give an impression: we ordered the Wild Whole Sea Brass as main and got it served on a long small plate without separate individual plates. The initial expectation was that we would eat like this, which is very unusual. On our request we have got individual plates, but still a far from Fine Dining experience.

Amazing Italian restaurant along the canal. I couldn't find it at first- you have to go down the stairs along the canal then it's there to your right (it goes under the sidewalk). BEAUTIFUL vaulted brick ceilings from the 1500's. Great charm and atmosphere, wine selection and food. I heard about it from a local, otherwise I do not think that I would have known about it. Outdoor seating as well but since it was January I went inside.

A bit difficult to find in the dark: you have to go down from the street to the water. Once there: nice space, good atmosphere and despite the crowds not too noisy for a good conversation. The food is of good quality, but the portions are on the small side, and very little in terms of the amount of vegetables (tagliatelle with spinach is with a few leaves of spinach). Something to take into account for the big eater or vegetable eater. Furthermore, nice and friendly staff. Better than the average Italian (not a pizzeria).

My favorite Italian spot in Utrecht! This is an absolute must-visit restaurant where you can enjoy the full experience of an authentic Italian dining atmosphere. The dishes were beautifully presented, the staff incredibly kind and welcoming, and most importantly, the flavors were out of this world. We absolutely loved it!

This place has a great atmosphere next to the canal and this is also their biggest selling point. Food is ok, but certainly also nothing special. Hard to believe when I read some reviewers saying this is best Italian in town. It’s not! Service is ok, people that are there are nice, but they seem understaffed so sometimes you need to get up to find somebody for an order or to pay. Price points are on the high side for what is provided. Specifically the appetizers seem a bit overpriced.
